This study assessed smallholder farmers’ participation in IFAD-Community Based Agricultural and Rural Development Project in Katsina State. Data for the study were obtained by the use of structured questionnaire. Multistage sampling technique was employed to select the 698 respondents. In the first stage, a purposive sampling technique was used to select one village area that had the highest participating farmers out of the three village areas in each LGA. The second stage involved the use of systematic random sampling technique to select 12% of the population. This gave a total of three hundred and fourty nine (349) participating farmers from the twelve participating village areas. Also, 349 non-participating farmers were selected from neighbouring communities using systematic random sampling. Descriptive statistics and logit regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The result shows that 23% of the participating farmers were between the ages of 46-50 years and 91% were males. The result also shows that level of education with coefficient value of (-0.309), household size (-0.041), farm size (0.801), membership of cooperative (0.547) and extension contact (-0.283) were the factors influencingsmallholder farmers participation in the project. The result further shows that inadequate capital, inadequate agricultural credits and inadequate storage facilities were the major constraints to participation in the programme. The study recommends that extension workers should assist farmers to form viable co-operatives associations and where they are in existence, efforts should be made to strengthen them for easy access to credit, farm inputs and markets for their agricultural products.

Effects of ingredient combination and Post-Frying Centrifugation (PFC) on qualities of low-fat and high fiber-fried snacks were investigated. Wheat Flour (WF), High-Quality Cassava Flour (HQCF) and Corn Bran (CB) were combined in the ratios 92:8:0, 83:12:5, 75:15:10, 62:18:20, 50:20:30, and 40:20:40, respectively. Conditioned blends (moisture content of 37.8%) were rested, sheeted, cut and fried at 170 ± 2°C for 5 min. Some fried matrices were centrifuged for 3 min immediately after frying. Samples with the highest CB had the highest oil uptake (19.91 ± 0.04%) and Total Dietary Fiber (TDF) (20.47 ± 0.41 g/100 g) but expanded least (61.52 ± 13.78%). Oil Uptake (OU), redness, change in color and TDF increased with CB inclusion but OU decreased by 55.21% after PFC. Negative correlation existed between OU and expansion (r = −0.852) and TDF with expansion (r = −0.85) while a positive correlation existed between TDF and OU (r = 0.945). Objective: The associations between adrenal histopathology, lateralization studies, and surgical outcomes in primary aldosteronism remain poorly characterized. We examined the value of immunohistochemical analysis of CYP11B2 for evaluation of adrenalectomy outcomes after anatomical versus functional subtyping. Design: A retrospective multicenter study of 277 patients operated for primary aldosteronism who had an adrenalectomy sample available in the Finnish biobanks from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2019. Adrenal slides from biobanks were analyzed centrally after CYP11B2 and CYP11B1 staining. Clinical data were obtained from patient registries. Histopathological diagnosis and cure after surgery were assessed as outcome measures. Results: Re-evaluation with CYP11B2 staining changed the histopathological diagnosis in 91 patients (33%). It is believed that certain environmental factors modulate coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19). This review outlines the role of environmental factors in COVID-19 infectivity, spread, and severity. Relevant articles were retrieved from Google Scholar, SpringerLink, and Scopus, then pooled and duplicates removed with EndNote software. Available information reveals that temperature, relative humidity (RH), sunlight, pollutants, and population density modulate COVID-19 infectivity and pathogenicity. COVID-19 spread is promoted by low temperature (< 25 °C) and RH (< 40%), whereas it is inhibited by high temperature (> 25 °C) and RH (> 40%). Sunlight exposure alters the virus's genetic material and boosts the host's immune function by raising serum vitamin D (25-hydroxyvitanim D), reducing the virus's viability and replication. Prolonged indoor stays with poor ventilation cause re-breathing of the air and increase carbon dioxide concentration, particularly in crowded rooms, predisposing to COVID-19. Pollutants, including particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, and sulphur dioxide, may overexpress the virus's receptor called angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), thereby increasing the virus's infectivity. Pollutants may also induce inflammation of the respiratory tract, weakening the immune function and thereby increasing susceptibility to COVID-19. High population density increases body contact and thus susceptibility to the virus. Research has been conducted on the growth regulators (+)-ampullicin and (+)-isoampullicin. The synthesis of these regulators from (-)-carvone has been carried out via the internal displacement of tosylate by the lactone enolate and the results are discussed.

The persistent application of chemicals in pest control and agricultural processes possess a public health concern as their use are often associated with acute or chronic poisoning cases in both humans and animals. In veterinary medicine, pesticides such as organophosphates and carbamates are exclusively used in ectoparasitic control through pour on, tick bath and fumigation. The incidence of organophosphate or carbamate poisoning in dogs within Maiduguri, north-eastern Nigeria was assessed using three government approved and licensed veterinary centres. Data were obtained through the review of three years (2016-2018) retrospective cases of organophosphate/carbamate poisoning and administration of questionnaires to actively practising veterinarians. Investigation revealed that organophosphate/carbamate poisoning in dogs within Maiduguri metropolis constituted 37% of poisoning cases and was on the increase in recent years with 22.96% of the total cases reported in 2016, 34.08% in 2017 and 42.96% in 2018. The case was most prevalent at the peak of the rainy season around July and August. The common clinical signs observed include salivation, vomiting, diarrhoea, muscle spasms, severe weakness and paralysis. Management was usually supportive and symptomatic while antidotal therapy revolved on atropine sulphate only. The effect of ageing in organophosphate poisoning was neglected by most of the clinicians as more than 50% would administer atropine sulphate without considering the duration of the onset of poisoning. It was concluded that the incidence of organophosphate and carbamate poisoning in dogs in Maiduguri constituted 37% of all poisoning cases where 22.96% and 42.96% of it were reported in 2016 and 2018, respectively. Enlightenment programmes for the public and professionals are recommended on the increased cases of poisoning and proper use of antidote in the treatment of chemical toxicosis. This paper introduces a project design on estimating air pollution over geographical regions that have a mono-source of data acquisition. Fourteen years (2000-2013) aerosol optical depth dataset was obtained from the Multi-angle Imaging Spectro-Radiometer (MISR). The peculiar design that has been discussed in this paper focusses on human health and environmental disturbances. The secondary datasets that were generated from the primary data were aerosol loading, particles sizes, Angstrom parameter, and the statistics of the primary dataset. A computational data treatment was introduced for the determination of data reliability of the dataset. Abstract Brazos Valley Food Bank (BVFB) is a non-profit organization in the Bryan-College Station area of Texas. It distributes food supplies through partner agencies and special programs to eradicate hunger in Brazos Valley. However, a big gap exists between the meals distributed by BVFB and the size of the food-insecure population. This research is motivated by BVFB’s desire to reach more people by recruiting more sustainable partner agencies. We used Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to map food desert areas lacking access to nutritious food. We combined expert knowledge with multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) to address the challenges and time consumption of manually identifying sustainable partner agencies for local food delivery. We identified evaluation criteria for all agencies based on BVFB managers’ preferences using a qualitative approach, and then applied three quantitative decision-making models: the Weighted Sum Model (WSM), the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), and the Multi-criteria Optimization and Compromise Solution (VIKOR) models to obtain ranking results. We compared the quantitative models’ rankings to BVFB managers’ manual choices and discussed the impacts of our research. The key innovation of the research is to develop a mixed method by combining expert knowledge with mathematical decision models and GIS to support spatial decision making in food distribution. Although our results were specific to BVFB, these procedures can be applied to food banks in general. Future studies include finetuning our models to measure and address human biases, wider applications and more data collections.

This study used aluminum scraps to produce a secondary aluminum metal matrix for heat storage analyses. Silica and kaolin reinforced aluminum metal matrix composites were successfully produced via stir casting. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were employed for phase and microstructure characterization. XRD revealed alumina (corundum), aluminum and kyanite phases while SEM indicated pores in the composites. Density, average specific heat (from 30 to 200°C), thermal conductivity, and hardness tests were carried out. Total heat energy stored per kg, from 30 to 200°C, was obtained. The inclusion of 7.5 and 15 wt% kaolin increased the specific heat of the matrix from 474.3 to 564.57 J·kg−1·°C−1 and 474.3 to 679.03 J·kg−1·°C−1, respectively. Likewise, adding 7.5 and 15 wt% silica sand increased the thermal conductivity of the matrix from 154.99 to 175.62 W·m−1·°C−1 and 154.99 W·m−1·°C−1 to 181.38 W·m−1·°C−1, respectively. The addition of 7.5 wt% silica sand and 7.5 and 15 wt% kaolin increased the hardness value of the matrix from 72.11 to 73.11 HB, 72.11 to 81.38 HB, and 72.11 to 82 HB, respectively. Hardness of the composites reinforced with kaolin is higher than that of the composites reinforced with silica sand. This is attributed to the higher molecular weight of kaolin. Significant increase in specific heat and thermal conductivity was achieved.

Annotated videos are commonly produced for documenting assembly and maintenance processes in the manufacturing industry. However, according to a semi-structured interview we conducted with industrial experts, the current process of creating annotated assembly videos, in which the annotator annotates the video capturing the expert’s demonstration of assembly and maintenance process, is cumbersome and time-consuming. The key challenges include three key problems in annotation: (1) unnecessary extra communications between field workers and annotators, (2) lack of suitable camera gear, and (3) wasting time in the manual removal of non-informative portions of captured videos. Because annotation always follows video capture, the problem 1 remains out of scope for state-of-the-art video annotation tools. And making the assumption of a perfect captured video, which covers no occlusion and contains only relevant assembly or maintenance information, causes problem 2 and 3. As a result, we have developed ARiana, a wearable augmented reality-based in-situ video annotation tool that guides field experts to create annotations efficiently while conducting the assembly or maintenance tasks. ARiana has three key features that include context-awareness enabled by hand-object interaction, multimodal interaction for annotation on the fly, and real-time audiovisual guidance enabled by edge offloading. We have implemented ARiana on Android-based smart glasses, equipped with first-person camera and microphone. In a usability test based on attempting to assemble a toy model and to annotate the recorded video simultaneously, ARiana demonstrated higher efficiency and effectiveness compared to one of the state-of-the-art video annotation tools, in which the assembling process is followed by the annotation process. In particular, ARiana helps users finish annotation tasks four times faster, and increase the annotation accuracy by 23%.

Buildings shape cities as those cities grow from and nurture people living and working within the built environment. Thus, the conceptualization of smart building should be brought closer to the smart city initiatives that particularly target ensuring and enhancing the sustainability and quality of urban life. In this paper, we propose that a smart building should be interlinked with a smart city surrounding it; it should provide good experiences to its various occupants and it should be in an ongoing state of evolving as an ecosystem, wherein different stakeholders can join to co-produce, co-provide and co-consume services. Smart buildings require a versatile set of smart services based on digital solutions, solutions in the built environment and human activities. We conducted a multiphase collaborative study on new service opportunities guided by a Design Thinking approach. The approach brought people, technology, and business perspectives together and resulted in key service opportunities that have the potential to make the buildings smart and provide enjoyable experience to the occupants who support their living and working activities in smart cities. This paper provides the resulting practical implications as well as proposes future avenues for research.

Background Apolipoprotein C-III (apoC-III) is a regulator of triglyceride (TG) metabolism, and due to its association with risk of cardiovascular disease, is an emergent target for pharmacological intervention. The impact of substantially lowering apoC-III on lipoprotein metabolism is not clear.Methods We investigated the kinetics of apolipoproteins B48 and B100 (apoB48 and apoB100) in chylomicrons, VLDL1, VLDL2, IDL, and LDL in patients heterozygous for a loss-of-function (LOF) mutation in the APOC3 gene. Studies were conducted in the postprandial state to provide a more comprehensive view of the influence of this protein on TG transport.Results Compared with non-LOF variant participants, a genetically determined decrease in apoC-III resulted in marked acceleration of lipolysis of TG-rich lipoproteins (TRLs), increased removal of VLDL remnants from the bloodstream, and substantial decrease in circulating levels of VLDL1, VLDL2, and IDL particles. Production rates for apoB48-containing chylomicrons and apoB100-containing VLDL1 and VLDL2 were not different between LOF carriers and noncarriers. BackgroundAlthough intrahousehold transmission is a key source of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, studies to date have not analysed socioeconomic risk factors on the household level or household clustering of severe COVID-19. We quantify household income differences and household clustering of COVID-19 incidence and severity.Methods and findingsWe used register-based cohort data with individual-level linkage across various administrative registers for the total Finnish population living in working-age private households (N = 4,315,342). Incident COVID-19 cases (N = 38,467) were identified from the National Infectious Diseases Register from 1 July 2020 to 22 February 2021. Severe cases (N = 625) were defined as having at least 3 consecutive days of inpatient care with a COVID-19 diagnosis and identified from the Care Register for Health Care between 1 July 2020 and 31 December 2020. We used 2-level logistic regression with individuals nested within households to estimate COVID-19 incidence and case severity among those infected. Adjusted for age, sex, and regional characteristics, the incidence of COVID-19 was higher (odds ratio [OR] 1.67, 95% CI 1.58 to 1.77, p < 0.001, 28.4% of infections) among individuals in the lowest household income quintile than among those in the highest quintile (18.9%). The difference attenuated (OR 1.23, 1.16 to 1.30, p < 0.001) when controlling for foreign background but not when controlling for other household-level risk factors. In fact, we found a clear income gradient in incidence only among people with foreign background but none among those with native background. The odds of severe illness among those infected were also higher in the lowest income quintile (OR 1.97, 1.52 to 2.56, p < 0.001, 28.0% versus 21.6% in the highest quintile), but this difference was fully attenuated (OR 1.08, 0.77 to 1.52, p = 0.64) when controlling for other individual-level risk factors-comorbidities, occupational status, and foreign background. Both incidence and severity were strongly clustered within households: Around 77% of the variation in incidence and 20% in severity were attributable to differences between households. The main limitation of our study was that the test uptake for COVID-19 may have differed between population subgroups.ConclusionsLow household income appears to be a strong risk factor for both COVID-19 incidence and case severity, but the income differences are largely driven by having foreign background. The strong household clustering of incidence and severity highlights the importance of household context in the prevention and mitigation of COVID-19 outcomes.

This paper presents an analysis of off board bidirectional Plug in Electric Vehicle (PEV) Charger. Since, normally, the control command for such chargers are given in terms of desired real and reactive power, a model of the system is formulated directly in terms of these variables. A detailed steady state analysis of the system is presented for the entire possible range of operation and for a given battery state of charge (SOC) rather than selecting points of operation a priori. This result shows the various possibilities of the system and informs further structural studies of the system and the design of controllers to meet the desired control objectives. Detarium senegalense JF Gmelin stem bark aqueous extract was investigated for its phytochemical contents as well as its anti-diarrhoea effects. The aqueous extract which is normally used in folkloric medicine was subjected to phytochemical screening. Graded doses of the extract (100, 200 and 400 mg per kg) were administered orally to three groups of rats (n = 5) before induction of diarrhoea with castor oil. Another two groups of animals were treated with normal saline (control) and diphenoxylate, a conventional anti-diarrhoea drug respectively. In two separate experiments, gastrointestinal transits of charcoal meal and gastro-intestinal enteropooling with the same graded doses of the aqueous extracts were used for comparison. The extract produced a significant inhibition of the castor oil induced diarrhoea in the animals. The gastrointestinal transit of charcoal meal was also reduced by the various doses used in this study. However, the intestinal fluid accumulation was only slightly reduced especially by 400 mg/kg dose of the extract. The aqueous extract alone dose dependently reduced the contractile amplitude of the jejunal tissue. The aqueous extract also decreased the contractile amplitude of isolated jejunal segment exposed to 0.2 ml of 10 µg/ml of acetylcholine. Phytochemical analysis of the stem bark extract revealed the presence of secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, terpenes and steroids, saponins and glycosides. The findings suggest that, the aqueous stem bark extract of D. senegalense possesses antidiarrhoeal effect, which could be related to inhibition of gastro-intestinal motility and secretion. The effect of processing on starch digestibility, predicted glycemic indices (pGI), polyphenol contents and alpha amylase inhibitory properties of beans ( Phaseolis vulgaris) and breadfruit ( Treculia africana ) was studied. Total starch ranged from 4.3 to 68.3 g/100 g, digestible starch ranged from 4.3 to 59.2 to 65.7 g/100 g for the raw and processed legumes; Resistance starch was not detected in most of the legumes except in fried breadfruit and the starches in both the raw and processed breadfruit were more rapidly digested than those from raw and cooked beans. Raw and processed breadfruit had higher hydrolysis curves than raw and processed beans with the amylolysis level in raw breadfruit close to that of white bread. Raw beans had a low glycemic index (GI); boiled beans and breadfruit had intermediate glycemic indices respectively while raw and fried breadfruit had high glycemic indices. Aqueous extracts of the food samples had weak α-amylase inhibition compared to acarbose. The raw and processed legumes contained considerable amounts of dietary phenols and flavonoids. The significant correlation (r = 0.626) between α-amylase inhibitory actions of the legumes versus their total phenolic contents suggests the contribution of the phenolic compounds in these legumes to their α-amylase inhibitory properties. Movement sensor data from seven static and dynamic dog behaviors (sitting, standing, lying down, trotting, walking, playing, and (treat) searching i.e. sniffing) was collected from 45 middle to large sized dogs with six degree-of-freedom movement sensors attached to the collar and the harness. With 17 dogs the collection procedure was repeated. The duration of each of the seven behaviors was approximately three minutes. The order of the tasks was varied between the dogs and the two repetitions (for the 17 dogs). The behaviors were annotated post-hoc based on the video recordings made with two camcorders during the tests with one second resolution. The annotations were accurately synchronized with the raw movement sensors data.The annotated data was originally used for training behavior classification machine learning algorithms for classifying the seven behaviors. The developed signal processing and classification algorithms are provided together with the raw measurement data and reference annotations. Research on the political risk and entry mode of multinational companies (MNCs) has been one of the major subjects of interest in international business terrain, and the political risk factor has constitute a major basis for explaining whether exporting, licensing, franchising, or joint venture agreement (JVA) and Foreign direct investment seems to be appropriate. As such, the study examined the effect of political risk as it affects the entry mode strategies of selected multinational corporations in Nigeria as the economy of most developing economies has been characterized as being exposed to political instability and risk. The research adopted the survey technique with inference to the expo facto method and adopted questionnaire as an instrument through content and test re-test appraisal before data were analyzed through the IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. The results from the analysis indicated that franchising remains a viable option of multinationals in Nigeria and the second hypothesis indicated that licensing significantly reduces the risk exposure of multinational corporations as the licensor have lesser liability in an unstable political economy of the licensee. Based on these findings companies are recommended to adopt appropriate entry strategies in line with governmental policies and economic situation before entering foreign markets. JEL CODES: M1, M10

he aerosols loading and retention over West Africa have grave effect on life-forms through the impact on health, farming, rainfall pattern, cloud formation, and regional climate. Bolgatanga can be found on the latitude and longitude of 10.78°N and 0.85°W, respectively. This research is focused on an investigative consideration of the negative effect of atmospheric aerosols over Bolgatanga in Ghana through a conceptual model using analytical and descriptive statistical methods with MATLAB curve-fitting tool. The model was verified using aerosol optical depth data set from satellite imagery--multi-angle imaging specto-reflectometer (MISR)--obtained over a period of 13 years. The highest percentage increase of aerosol retention was 64.27% over the research site. The model was used to estimate the atmospheric constants as 0.67, tuning constants as 0.24, and phase difference as ± π/4 4 . The physical interpretation of the results was analyzed systematically. The present study tested the motivational model of physical education (PE) including needs for competence, autonomy, social relatedness, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, in-class moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and total MVPA. Participants were 490 (264 girls, 226 boys) Finnish elementary school students. The data were collected using accelerometers and questionnaires for a seven-day period during the fall semester 2017. The key findings were that 1) social relatedness associated with total MVPA via in-class MVPA in girls, whereas competence was linked to in-class MVPA through extrinsic motivation in boys, 2) competence was positively linked to extrinsic motivation in a similar way in both girls and boys, 3) social relatedness and in-class MVPA were positively associated with total MVPA in both girls and boys, 4) competence, autonomy, and relatedness were positively linked to intrinsic motivation in girls when only competence and autonomy were related to intrinsic motivation in boys, and 5) in-class MVPA contributed 36% of total weekly MVPA minutes in the present sample. Although the indirect relationships between study variables did not fully support the existing PE motivational model, the direct associations showed that needs of competence, autonomy, relatedness could be promoted in PE classes to support intrinsic motivation, and total MVPA.

Leaving a dog home alone is part of everyday life for most dog owners. Previous research shows that dog–owner relationship has multifarious effects on dog behavior. However, little is known about the interplay between dog–owner relationship, physical activity of the dog, and affective experiences at the time of the owner leaving home and reunion when the owner comes home. In this paper, we explored how the general (daily, home alone, and over the 2-week study period) physical activity of the dog, and owner's perceptions of the dog's affective state were correlated at those particular moments. Nineteen volunteer dog owners had their dogs (N = 19) wear two activity trackers (ActiGraph wGT2X-GT and FitBark2) for 2 weeks 24 h/day. Prior to the 2-week continuous physical activity measurement period, the owners filled in questionnaires about the dog–owner relationship and the dog behavior. In daily questionnaires, owners described and assessed their own and their perception of the emotion-related experiences of their dog and behavior of the dog at the moment of separation and reunion. The results indicated that the dog–owner relationship has an interplay with the mean daily and weekly physical activity levels of the dog. An indication of strong emotional dog–owner relationship (especially related to the attentiveness of the dog, continuous companionship, and time spent together when relaxing) correlated positively with the mean daily activity levels of the dog during the first measurement week of the study. Results also suggest that the mean daily and over the 2-week measurement period physical activity of the dog correlated the affective experiences of the dog and owner as reported by the owner when the dog was left home alone. More research is needed to understand the interplay between affect, physical activity of the dog, dog–owner relationship, and the effects of these factors on, and their interplay with, the welfare of dogs.

Training in virtual reality (VR) is a valuable supplementing tool for advancing knowledge transfer that results in increased efficiency and accuracy of technicians in fieldwork. However, COVID-19 pandemic restrictions made it impossible for VR training centers to operate on a full scale, forcing traditional face-to-face learning sessions to become remote. In this article, we investigate the asymmetric use of a VR training solution—among devices with different levels of immersion and control—to enrich the content of remote training sessions. The VR in this case can be seen as a source of visual and other contextual information to advance the effects of situated learning and enhance knowledge transfer. To evaluate this approach, we conducted a remote user study with ten industrial maintenance and installation experts. We also introduce the “Research Panel” tool to gather reactions of learners during the remote training session. The expert user study results demonstrate the usefulness and relevance of asymmetric VR to improve remote training sessions and other application industrial scenarios, while the “Research Panel” data provided detailed insight into the session flow. Building on the qualitative findings, we present design guidelines to aid the adoption of asymmetric VR in the industrial context.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are associated with plasma lipid levels. Here, Tabassum et al. perform genome-wide association studies for lipidomic profiles with 141 (non-standard) lipid species which highlights shared genetic loci with CVD and that traditional lipids have low genetic correlation with other lipids.

Technical documentation creation is a collaborative process involving several departments in R&D. Even though virtual reality (VR) has been demonstrated to facilitate industrial collaboration and advance the product development lifecycle in earlier studies, it has not been utilized for technical documentation review and risk assessment processes in industrial companies. This article presents a case study where the benefits of VR to maintenance documentation reviews and risk assessments were studied. The virtual reality environment was tested by nine domain experts from an industrial company in a user study that replicated their actual real-life industrial collaboration tasks. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected during the study. Our findings show that collaborative VR has the potential to enhance the documentation review and risk assessment processes. Overall, the concept of using virtual reality for documentation review and risk assessment processes was rated positively by participants, and even though further development is needed for the review tools, VR was viewed as a concept that facilitates collaboration, enhances the current review practices, and increases spatial understanding. The benefits of VR are evident, especially for geographically scattered teams that rarely meet face-to-face or do not have access to the actual physical equipment. In cases where traditional means of communication are not enough, process improvements are needed for documentation review and risk assessment processes, and our proposed solution is VR.

We evaluated the effect of the dog–owner relationship on dogs’ emotional reactivity, quantified with heart rate variability (HRV), behavioral changes, physical activity and dog owner interpretations. Twenty nine adult dogs encountered five different emotional situations (i.e., stroking, a feeding toy, separation from the owner, reunion with the owner, a sudden appearance of a novel object). The results showed that both negative and positive situations provoked signs of heightened arousal in dogs. During negative situations, owners’ ratings about the heightened emotional arousal correlated with lower HRV, higher physical activity and more behaviors that typically index arousal and fear. The three factors of The Monash Dog–Owner Relationship Scale (MDORS) were reflected in the dogs’ heart rate variability and behaviors: the Emotional Closeness factor was related to increased HRV (p = 0.009), suggesting this aspect is associated with the secure base effect, and the Shared Activities factor showed a trend toward lower HRV (p = 0.067) along with more owner-directed behaviors reflecting attachment related arousal. In contrast, the Perceived Costs factor was related to higher HRV (p = 0.009) along with less fear and less owner-directed behaviors, which may reflect the dog’s more independent personality. In conclusion, dogs’ emotional reactivity and the dog–owner relationship modulate each other, depending on the aspect of the relationship and dogs’ individual responsivity.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is characterized by hepatic lipid accumulation. The transmembrane 6 superfamily member 2 (TM6SF2) E167K genetic variant associates with NAFLD and with reduced plasma triglyceride levels in humans. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying these associations remain unclear. We hypothesized that TM6SF2 E167K affects hepatic very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) secretion and studied the kinetics of apolipoprotein B100 (apoB100) and triglyceride metabolism in VLDL in homozygous subjects. In 10 homozygote TM6SF2 E167K carriers and 10 matched controls, we employed stable-isotope tracer and compartmental modeling techniques to determine apoB100 and triglyceride kinetics in the 2 major VLDL subfractions: large triglyceride-rich VLDL1 and smaller, less triglyceride-rich VLDL2. VLDL1-apoB100 production was markedly reduced in homozygote TM6SF2 E167K carriers compared with controls. Likewise, VLDL1-triglyceride production was 35% lower in the TM6SF2 E167K carriers. In contrast, the direct production rates for VLDL2-apoB100 and triglyceride were not different between carriers and controls. In conclusion, the TM6SF2 E167K genetic variant was linked to a specific reduction in hepatic secretion of large triglyceride-rich VLDL1. The impaired secretion of VLDL1 explains the reduced plasma triglyceride concentration and provides a basis for understanding the lower risk of cardiovascular disease associated with the TM6SF2 E167K genetic variant.

Virtual Reality (VR) is a critical emerging technology in industrial contexts, as it facilitates collaboration and supports the product development lifecycle. However, its broad adoption is constrained by complex and high-cost integration. The use of VR among devices with various immersion and control levels may solve this obstacle, and increase the scalability of VR technologies. This article presents a case study on applying asymmetry between the COVE-VR platform and Microsoft Teams to enable distributed collaboration of multinational departments and enhance the maintenance method and documentation creation processes. Overall, five remote collaborative sessions were held with 20 experts from four countries. Our findings suggest that asymmetry between head-mounted display and Teams users enhances the quality of communication among geographically dispersed teams and their spatial understanding, which positively influences knowledge transfer and efficiency of industrial processes. Based on qualitative evaluation of the asymmetric VR setup, we further suggest a list of guidelines on how to enhance the collaboration efficiency for low-cost distributed asymmetric VR from three perspectives: organization, collaboration and technology.

This paper presents the relative percentile of diffusion (RPDiF) and compares it with the results of the following indicators: synchronous diffusion factor (DiF), synchronous relative diffusion factor (RDiF), and the five years impact factor (5IF) scores -- to assess the influence of journals. The approach involves collection, analyses and comparison of bibliometric data for42 Malaysian journals that have garnered citations in the Web of Science (WoS) during 2006 to 2010.Findings show that it is important to read the RDiF with the RPDiF because RPDiF shows that journals with high RDiF and low RPDiF do not possess strong quality profile like those with both high RDiF and RPDiF. The paper concludes that a journal can be said to demonstrate high quality impact and influence if it achieves a high DiF, RPDiF and 5IF. With the fourth industrial revolution, Industry 4.0, many work tasks are becoming knowledge intensive. At the forefront of the change are workers that are already mobile, working in the field with customers. We describe the human-centred design process that resulted in the Mobile Service Technician 4.0 concept. The concept illustrates how industrial field maintenance work could benefit from knowledge-sharing solutions based on Industry 4.0. The solutions utilize industrial internet, virtual and augmented reality as well as wearable technologies to improve mobile service technicians’ daily work performance and work satisfaction. The Mobile Service Technician 4.0 concept illustrates the user experience of future maintenance work: feeling competent, feeling connected to the work community, and feeling of success and achievement by being better prepared for maintenance visits, getting situationally relevant support in maintenance operations, sharing knowledge with peers, and making maintenance reports effortless.

Our focus in this paper is on determining an optimal replenishment policy for items with three-parameter Weibull distribution deterioration and inventory-level dependent demand. We developed and analyzed the model under the assumption of partial backlogging. The three-parameter Weibull hazard rate captures the impact of already deteriorated items that are received into the inventory, as well as those items that may start deteriorating in future. The inventory-level demand reflects a real market demand for product whose sales is enhanced by stock on display. We study a case base examples to gain some quantitative insight into the proposed model and we perform sensitivity analysis to draw some managerial implications.
