Abstract Objectives This study aimed to investigate awareness of women living in the western region of Iran about warning signs and risk factors for ovarian cancer. Methods This cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical study was conducted in Sanandaj and Kermanshah, Iran, 2020 and 2021. In this study, 1081 women aged 18–70 years were selected as the sample to fill out the electronic version of the Ovarian Cancer Awareness Measure (OCAM) to identify the significant variables of ovarian cancer warning signs and risk factors. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by descriptive statistics and ordinal logistic regression in SPSS 19. Background: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder. According to the DSM-V, this condition has a variety of symptoms including impaired social relationships, and behavioral disorders. Various studies have shown that these children also have balance problems that are rarely investigated in this population. The purpose was to investigate the effect of single- and dual-task exercises on the functional balance of these children. Methods: The study design was a clinical trial research. The participants were 40 children with ASD (9 to 14 years) who were randomly divided into two groups. The single-task exercise group only performed balance exercises, while the dual-task exercises group performed both balance exercises and cognitive tasks at the same time. The sessions consisted of 45-min sessions (3 times a week for 4 weeks). The functional balance tests were performed before and after the intervention. Results: There were no significant differences between two groups in the Timed Up and Go test, 10-meter walk test and Mini-BESTest endpoint of the study, but there was a significant difference in Pediatric Berg Balance Scale (p=0.01, effect size=0.82). Dual-task exercises could not cause significant improvements in the functional balance of the participants compared to the single-task group. Conclusion: It seems that evidence that dual-task exercises cause significant improvements of functional balance of the participants compared to the single-task group is inconclusive. Background: The toxicity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) has been proven in the female reproductive system. Thymoquinone (TQ) is a natural antioxidant and bioactive component of Nigella sativa. Objective: We evaluated the efficacy of TQ on ovarian tissue following toxicity induced by AgNPs in female mice. Materials and Methods: 24 female NMRI mice (5-6 wk, an average weight of 33 gr) were randomly divided into 4 groups (n = 6/each): control, AgNPs (500 mg/kg, gavage), TQ (2.5 mg/kg, intraperitoneal injection), and TQ+AgNPs. Mice were treated every day for 35 days. Serum levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), luteinizing hormone, and follicle-stimulating hormone were measured. The optical disector and stereological techniques were utilized to estimate the follicular count, their volume at different developmental stages, and the structure of ovarian tissue. Results: In the AgNPs group, the serum concentrations of TAC (p = 0.01), luteinizing hormone (p < 0.001), follicle-stimulating hormone, the volume of corpus luteum (p < 0.001), and the number of follicles decreased significantly compared to the control group. Nevertheless, AgNPs significantly increased the MDA level. In the TQ+AgNPs group compared to the AgNPs group, a significant decrease in MDA level (p < 0.001) and a significant improvement in TAC (p = 0.03), and hormonal levels, the number of primary, preantral, and antral follicles (p = 0.04), and the volume of corpus luteum (p = 0.01) were observed. Conclusion: TQ improved the number of follicles by reducing oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation in AgNPs-damaged ovarian tissue. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Aims: The quality of reports plays a crucial role in patient care. Statistics reveal instances of negligence in patient care due to ineffective reporting by nurses, underscoring the need for enhanced efforts in nursing student education. Given the variety of methods available for teaching report writing, this study aimed to compare the efficacy of workshop and virtual training approaches in improving the quality of report writing among nursing students at Birjand University of Medical Sciences. Materials and Methods: This interventional study involved 111 nursing students from Birjand, randomly allocated into three groups of virtual training (n=36), workshop training (n=36), and control (n=39). For students in the workshop training group, educational content was delivered through a workshop comprising three 4-hour sessions covering six topics. For the virtual training group, educational material was provided as text, audio, and visual files via Telegram over one week (six days dedicated to training and one day for summarizing the content) and sent to students daily at specified times. The status of students' report writing skills was assessed before and after the intervention (immediately and two weeks post-training). Results: The mean score for report writing quality immediately after the completion of the workshop training program was 91.4 ± 58.80 in the workshop training group, significantly higher than that in the other groups studied. Moreover, the mean score for report writing quality two weeks after completing the training program in the workshop training group was 16.5 ± 91.78, significantly higher than that in the other two groups. The mean difference in report writing quality scores immediately after training completion in the workshop training group was significantly greater than in the other groups (P<0.001). Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, the workshop method was more effective than the virtual approach for teaching report writing to nursing students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: This study aims to investigate cognitive determinants of functional foods (FF) consumption which contain fiber among Iranian students based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB). Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out between March and May 2018 on the students of Birjand University of Medical Sciences (BUMS). A structured questionnaire was used which was validated with Cronbach's alpha of 0.78. Results: 515 questionnaires were completed, and the majority of the respondents were females. 20% of the participants were the primary household food purchasers, and familiarity with functional foods was the only effective factor regarding consumption. Subjective norms could predict the students' consumption of the macaroni which contained fiber. In addition, monthly income of the family had a major effect on having the macaroni containing fiber. The parents' education also impacted the consumption of these foods. Conclusion: Attitudes and perceived control had a poorer effect on choosing the food containing fiber rather than subjective norms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Heat seal and mechanical properties of 1‐octene grafted low density polyethylene films containing various concentrations of Dicumyl peroxide as the initiator and 1‐octene grafting agent is investigated through using experimental measurements. The results of differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) measurements revealed that the melting temperature shifts to higher values and the peak of the DSC curve becomes wider with the increase of 1‐octene concentrations. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) revealed a higher thermal stability up to 20 °C for 1‐octene grafted PE compared with neat LDPE alloy. The results of stress–strain measurements revealed that the 1‐octene grafted PE alloys has higher tensile strength in comparison with neat PE alloy and samples containing only DCP initiator. The results of heat seal analysis indicated that both DCP initiator and 1‐octene tended to offer a moderate increase peel strength of PE alloy. DMTA measurements for various grafted PE alloys show a higher damping factor in comparison with neat LDPE alloy. Rheological measurements indicated a higher storage modulus up to 25% and higher complex viscosity for grafted PE samples containing 1‐octene comonomer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is expanding to epidemic levels globally due to the progressing prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM). In this study, the association between factor V Leiden (FVL), MTHFRC677T, and FXIIIVal34Leu polymorphisms and diabetic retinopathy was investigated in Eastern Iran. Methods: This case-control study enlisted the participation of 300 people (diabetic patients=100, diabetic retinopathy patients=100, healthy controls=100), and polymorphisms were examined by Tetra primer ARMS-PCR. Results: The frequency of FVL (p=0.294) and FXIIIVal34Leu (P=0.349) polymorphism showed no significant results between the genotype frequency in the mentioned groups. In contrast, MTHFRC677T SNP was significantly different in diabetic patients and controls (P=0.008). The MTHFRC677T polymorphism was found to be connected with increased systolic blood pressure in patients who had the TT genotype (130.96±11.92mm/Hg; P=0.011). Conclusion: Our study recommended that the MTHFRC677T polymorphism may offer to DR development. Wheat plays a crucial role in global food security, serving as a vital food crop that feeds billions of people worldwide. Currently, Russia and Ukraine are responsible for exporting approximately 25% of the world's wheat, making any issues in these regions a cause for concern regarding global wheat supply. The problems faced in these areas have led to a surge in wheat prices worldwide. Consequently, it becomes necessary to explore alternative regions that can compensate for the decline in wheat production and supply. This study focuses on wheat production and yield in major producing countries, utilizing the GYGA (Global Yield Gap Atlas) protocol for predictions. The findings reveal a global wheat production gap of 270,378,793 tons. Notably, the largest gap in irrigated wheat production exists in countries like China, India, Pakistan, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Egypt, and Azerbaijan. Additionally, the rainfed wheat production gap on a global scale amounts to 545,215,692 tons, with Russia, the USA, Kazakhstan, Australia, Ukraine, China, Turkey, Canada, India, and France having the most significant production gaps. Through boundary line analysis, specific criteria were identified for suitable areas of irrigated and rainfed wheat cultivation. For irrigated conditions, the temperature range of 3000 to 7000 GDD (Growing Degree Days) and a temperature seasonality of 3 were determined as favorable. Under rainfed conditions, the suitable areas encompass a temperature range of 2000 to 4000 GDD, an aridity index exceeding 600, and a temperature seasonality of 2. Thirteen countries possess extensive agricultural land within the climatic codes favorable for irrigated wheat cultivation. Approximately 50% of the agricultural lands within these countries, corresponding to the total arable area for irrigated wheat, fall within the climatic codes 3403, 5403, 5303, 4303, 5503, 5203, 3503, 3303, and 4103. China, the United States, Ukraine, Russia, and Iran are the top five countries with favorable lands for irrigated wheat cultivation. Similarly, fourteen countries have significant agricultural lands within the favorable climatic codes for rainfed wheat cultivation. Around 52% of the agricultural lands within these countries are within the climatic codes 3702, 2702, 2802, and 4602. France, Germany, Britain, Poland, and Denmark possess the highest potential to expand rainfed wheat cultivation areas within these favorable climate codes, with respective areas of 2.7, 2.6, 1.6, and 0.9 million hectares. According to the study, the North China Plain emerges as a primary region for increasing irrigated wheat production, both in terms of cultivated area and yield potential. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of the co-treatment with apigenin and doxorubicin (DOX) on K562 cells. Our results show that apigenin (0, 40, 60, 80 ,100 µM) and DOX (0–10 µM) as single therapy, could decrease K562 cell viability (after 24 h of treatment) in a dose-dependent manner. Additionally, the co-treatment with apigenin (60, 80 µM) and 10 µM of DOX led to a greater reduction in cell growth (CI: 0.92 and 0.97) after 24 h of treatment compared to the single DOX treatment (p < 0.05). Consequently, apigenin and DOX, either as single or as co-treatment (24 h of treatment), were indicated to induce apoptosis in K562 cells through morphological studies, RT-qPCR, and western-blot analysis. Eventually, the expressions of Caspase 3, 6, 7, and 9 genes in the single treatment with DOX had higher alteration compared to the co-treatment with DOX and apigenin (p < 0.05). Aims: This study examined the short‐term effect of motivational interviewing on treatment adherence and self‐efficacy of adolescents with asthma. Design: The randomized controlled trial. Method: In this study, 72 adolescents with asthma were recruited and assigned to experimental and control groups randomly. In the experimental group, the motivational interviewing was performed for five weekly sessions lasting 80–90 min. The treatment adherence and self‐efficacy questionnaires were completed before the intervention, 2 weeks and 3 months after the intervention in both groups. Data were analysed by Chi‐Square test, independent samples T‐test, repeated measures of Wilcoxon and generalized estimating equation. Results: The treatment adherence was found to be significantly higher 2 weeks (p = 0.006) and 3 months after the intervention (p = 0.04) in the experimental group than the control group. In addition, the degree of self‐efficacy was significantly more in the experimental group 2 weeks (p < 0.001) and 3 months later (p < 0.001) than the control group. The result of generalized estimating equation showed that the intervention group had an average of 14.44 more self‐efficacy points than the control group (p < 0.001). Also, treatment adherence in the intervention group was significantly higher than the control group (β = 6.14, p = 0.05(. Background: Acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are associated with significant mortality. Objectives: The present study aimed to identify the risk factors that contribute to hospital outcomes of patients admitted with COPD exacerbation. Methods: This prospective cross-sectional study was performed on 74 patients hospitalized with COPD exacerbation. Pulse oximetry, complete blood count, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), and venous blood gas were taken under standard conditions. The clinical condition of patients was scored based on the COPD Assessment Test (CAT) and shortness of breath based on the standard, modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) questionnaire. The patients were divided into three groups based on in-hospital outcomes (i.e., favorable, unfavorable, and terrible or worse). One-way analysis of variance, chi-square test, logistic regression model, and odds ratio (OR) analysis were used to determine the most important factors associated with outcomes. A P-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Out of 74 patients, 43 (58.1%) and 31 (41.9%) subjects were male and female, respectively. The patients' mean age was 68.19 ± 10.62 years. The number (%) of patients in favorable, unfavorable, and worse outcome groups was 27 (36.48%), 30 (40.54%), and 17 (22.97%), respectively. As the CAT and mMRC score increased, the chance of terrible outcomes also increased (OR = 1.22, confidence interval (CI): 1.10 - 1.35). There was no significant correlation between worse outcomes and hs-CRP. The PCT was significantly higher in the group with worse outcomes than in the groups with favorable and unfavorable outcomes (P < 0.01). Conclusions: The COPD evaluation by the CAT andmMRCplays an important role in the in-hospital outcomes of hospitalized COPD patients with exacerbation. Background and Methods: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is considered one of the most common malignancies worldwide. The diagnosis and prognosis of the patients are very poor. In this study, we used in‐silico analysis and experimental techniques to investigate novel co‐expression genes and their associated miRNA networks in CRC. For this purpose, we conducted a comprehensive transcriptome analysis using online bulk and single‐cell RNA‐seq datasets. We then validated the results on tissue samples from cancerous and adjacent normal tissues from CRC patients by RT‐qPCR. Results: Using a weighted gene co‐expression network algorithm, we identified SLC4A4 as a significantly downregulated hub gene in the CRC. The single‐cell analysis indicated that the expression level of SLC4A4 in Paneth cells is higher than in other cell populations. Further computational analysis suggested hsa‐miR‐223‐3p and hsa‐miR‐106a‐5p as two specific hub‐miRNAs for the SLC4A4 gene. RT‐qPCR analysis showed a 2.60‐fold downregulation of SLC4A4. Moreover, hsa‐miR‐223‐3p and hsa‐miR‐106a‐5p showed an increased expression level of 5.58‐fold and 9.66‐fold in CRC samples, respectively. Based on the marginal model analysis, by increasing the expression of hsa‐miR‐106a‐5p, the average expression of the SLC4A4 gene significantly decreased by 103 units. Furthermore, ROC curves analysis indicated statistically significant for diagnostic ability of SLC4A4 (AUC: 0.94, Sensitivity: 95.5%, Specificity: 95.5%) and hsa‐miR‐106a‐5p (AUC: 0.72, Sensitivity: 72.7%, Specificity: 100%). Conclusion: This study provides a framework of co‐expression gene modules and miRNAs of CRC, which identifies some important biomarkers for CRC pathogenicity and diagnosis. Background/aim: Diabetes is a multifactorial and growing disease, one of the severe complications of which is diabetic nephropathy (DN), which is the most common cause of chronic renal failure. FERM domain containing 3 (FRMD3) is responsible for maintaining the shape and integrity of nephron cells, and bone morphogenetic protein 7 (BMP7) helps maintain function and reduce kidney damage. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of crocin and losartan on biochemical parameters and the expression of FRMD3 and BMP7 genes in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Materials and methods: Forty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into five experimental groups as healthy, diabetic control (D), crocin, losartan, and diabetic rats treated with losartan-crocin (n = 8). A single dose of STZ (50 mg/kg intraperitoneally injection) was used to induce diabetes. Four weeks after induction of diabetes, rats received crocin (50 mg/kg) and losartan (25 mg/kg) daily for four weeks orally. Rats were sacrificed at the end of the intervention, and blood samples were taken to determine serum levels of glucose, urea, creatinine (Cr), malondialdehyde (MDA), and thiol. Real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to assess the expression of the FRMD3 and BMP7 genes in the kidney samples. Results: Diabetes induction increased serum levels of glucose, Cr, urea, MDA, and thiol, but decreased BMP7 and FRMD3 genes expression. Treatment with crocin and losartan decreased these biochemical parameters and increased the expression of the BMP7 and FRMD3 genes. Conclusion: Crocin may be a promising therapeutic agent for preventing and improving diabetes-related kidney disease due to its antidiabetic and antioxidant properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
