In what ways can writing be powerful in contemporary time for education and research in this field? It is from this concern that this text reflects on the contemporary possibilities of writing in the task of learning, teaching and researching the events that permeate life and education. To achieve this, initially, the author's writing styles are presented and, then, five post-critical paths to writing are mobilized: cartography, essays, autofiction, workshop-writing and speculative fabulation. Each dimension of these is presented briefly and rhizomatically in order to compose a writing that happens with the entire body. We advocate writing that happens artisanally and poetically, along with the courage of authorship, of engaging respons-ability and of living with what is written. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This text presents itself as a manifest, through a writing-workshop (Pontin; Godoy, 2017) to provoke a weave that establishes the urgency of thinking and acting in the construction of other relationships with education in natural sciences in educational spaces. Thereby mobilizing teachings and learnings that weave themselves in the gaps of sympathetic observations, attentive experimentation, and self-educational processes in the midst of life, which cultivate multiple ways of inhabiting and constituting the world. Through a writing-workshop, an invitation to educators emerges from this manifest, no less unsettling, but bathed in vitality, joy and good luck, for them to create circumstances and thoughts with-life in education and in natural sciences. The Unified Foundational Ontology (UFO) was developed over the last two decades by consistently putting together theories from areas such as formal ontology in philosophy, cognitive science, linguistics, and philosophical logics. It comprises a number of micro-theories addressing fundamental conceptual modeling notions, including entity types and relationship types. The aim of this paper is to summarize the current state of UFO, presenting a formalization of the ontology, along with the analysis of a number of cases to illustrate the application of UFO and facilitate its comparison with other foundational ontologies in this special issue. Ants are abundant in terrestrial ecosystems, especially in the Brazilian Cerrado, where they can play several roles at different levels of the food chain, including protection of plants against herbivores. Although there are many studies that evaluate the ant–plant interaction in the Cerrado, little is known about the natural history of most species of ants. Camponotus crassus Mayr, 1862, for example, is considered one of the main agents of plant biotic defence in Cerrado. But there are no studies specifically focused on this species, which hinders the understanding of how arthropod–plant interactions are structured in Cerrado. Here, we describe the natural history and ecology of the foraging of the C. crassus. We conducted the study from January 2013 to December 2014 in 10 quadrants of 40 m2 to measure: the abundance, density and distribution of nests, location of the nests, the internal structure of the nests, the daily foraging of workers out of the nest, the food items they collect and the existence of territoriality and dominance of the workers on the soil and vegetation. We found 18 nests, 13 in the soil and 5 in hollow trunks on the ground with variable internal structures. The distribution of nests is aggregate, with density of 0.045 nests/m2 and average distance of 3.73 m between nests. The foraging activity occurs on the daytime during the rainy and dry season. Extrafloral nectar and honeydew were the resources most collected, comprising 83.33% of the resources in the rainy period and 30% in the dry period. Camponotus crassus is a dominant species, especially on vegetation, although it also forages on the soil. This is the first study to evaluate in detail the natural history and foraging ecology of C. crassus, a diurnal, aggressive and territorial ant that mainly forage climbing onto the plants. A sharing platform is a digital platform that facilitates access to underutilized goods by renting or lending them to others. Users become less dependent on ownership which improves efficiency, sustainability, and the sense of community. The Sharing Economy (SE) is considered a complex domain because value co-creation can occur between multiple types of platform users. Developing platform software that offers the right functionality for the intended digital platform is therefore challenging. To address this complexity, an ontology can be utilized, which is an explicit specification of a conceptualization that provides a controlled vocabulary and shared meaning regarding a domain. The use of a sharing platform ontology allows for more effective communication and knowledge sharing amongst stakeholders in platform development and eventually drives the platform software development process. However, currently, it is not known how to develop such an ontology. In previous research, we developed the Digital Platform Ontology (DPO) and an extension of the DPO for describing platform business model choices. The DPO describes the digital platform domain in terms of digital platform types, including sharing platforms. However, a method to use the DPO and its business model extension for developing an organization-specific ontology that describes the functionality and business model of a specific existing or intended sharing platform was lacking. In this paper, we develop such a method using the Design Science Research Methodology (DSRM) and demonstrate it using a proof-of-concept based on the BlaBlaCar and Couchsurfing platforms. Xylella fastidiosa is a vector-borne bacterium that causes diseases in many plants of economic interest. The bacterium–vector initial interactions involve bacterial membrane-bound adhesins that mediate cell attachment to the foregut of insect vectors. We investigated the role of the afimbrial adhesin XadA2 in the binding and biofilm formation of X. fastidiosa subsp. pauca to vector surfaces in vitro, as well as its potential to disrupt pathogen transmission. We showed that XadA2 has binding affinity for polysaccharides on sharpshooter hindwings, used as a proxy for the interactions between X. fastidiosa and vectors. When in a medium without carbon sources, the bacterium used wing components, likely chitin, as a source of nutrients and formed a biofilm on the wing surface. There was a significant reduction in X. fastidiosa biofilm formation and cell aggregation on vector wings in competition assays with XadA2 or its specific antibody (anti-XadA2). Finally, pathogen acquisition and transmission to plant were significantly reduced when the vectors acquired X. fastidiosa from an artificial diet supplemented with anti-XadA2. These results show that XadA2 is important in mediating bacterial colonization in the insect and that it could be used as a target for blocking X. fastidiosa transmission. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Xylella fastidiosa subsp. pauca is genetically diverse and has many vector species. However, there is limited information on vector specificity and efficiency for different sequence types (STs) within the pathogen subspecies. Both STs of X. fastidiosa and vectors differ in their associations with plants; therefore, assessment of vector competence should include the standardized vector acquisition ability of bacteria from artificial diets. This work aimed to adapt and validate an in vitro acquisition system for strains of X. fastidiosa that cause citrus variegated chlorosis, and to compare the transmission efficiency of STs of subsp. pauca by different species of shaipshooter vector. First, acquisition and U'ansmission of ST13 by Bucephalogonia xanthophis and Macugonalia leucomelas was tested using an artificial diet with bacteria grown on minimum defined medium (X. fastidiosa medium) with or without 1% galacturonic acid (GA). Subsequently, four sharpshooter species (B. xanthophis, M. leucomelas, M. cavifrons, and Sibovia sagata) were compared as vectors of ST13 acquired from artificial diets, and four STs of subsp. pauca (11, 13,65, and 70) were tested for acquisition and transmission by M. leucomelas. The artificial system allowed efficient acquisition and transmission of ST 13 to plants, with no differences between the media tested. ST 13 was transmitted more efficiently by B. xanthophis and M. leucomelas when compared with M. cavifrons and S. sagata. Different STs influenced acquisition and transmission rates by M. leucomelas. The differences in vector competence, despite the standardized acquisition system, suggest that ST-vector foregut or vector-plant interactions may influence bacterial acquisition, retention and inoculation by the insect. The resistance of wood plastic composite was evaluated for the xylophagous termites Nasutitermes corniger and Cryptotermes brevis. The panels were produced by compression, with proportions of wood (Pinus elliottii) and recycled thermoplastics of: T1 (50/50 Polyethylene terephthalate), T2 (50/50 High-density polyethylene), T3 (50/50 Polypropylene), T4 (50/50 Polyvinyl chloride), T5 (60/40 Polyethylene terephthalate), T6 (60/40 High-density polyethylene), T7 (60/40 Polypropylene), T8 (60/40 Polyvinyl chloride) and bonded with urea-formaldehyde. The N. corniger and C. brevis termite tests were performed adhering to the specific standards of wood biological resitance. the resistance of each treatment was evaluated in terms of the composite mass loss and termite mortality. There were no statistical differences between treatments 1 to 5 for the no-choice test with subterranean termites; treatment 3 showed the highest rate (9.2), with lower wear, as well as the higher mortality rate (88.6%) of the termites; this can be classified as high resistance. In relation to the other treatments, the dry wood termite test detected statistical differences for treatment 3 and offered the best results in terms of lower wear (0.47%), lower mass loss (0.63%) and 100% of mortality for 12 days.
