An experiment was performed at GSI with the objective of measuring theβ-intensity distribution in the decay of Hg, Au and Pt isotopes around N=126 using the total absorption gamma-ray spectroscopy technique. The aim is to benchmark theoretical models used to make predictions of half-life and neutron emission probabilities of exotic nuclei involved in the rapid neutron capture process, leading to the synthesis of very heavy elements. This paper presents some experimental details and the current status of the analysis.

Theoretical and experimental studies of neutron-rich nuclei have shown that the general concept of shell structure is not as robust and universal as earlier thought, but can exhibit significant changes as a function of neutron excess. New magic numbers appear and some other conventional ones disappear mainly because of a different ordering of the single-particle orbitals. In the present contribution, recent experimental studies of neutron-rich Cu isotopes, performed at RIKEN using β decay and one-proton knockout reactions, will be discussed. Neutron-rich nuclei near 78Ni were populated through in-flight fission of 238U on thick 9Be targets in both experiments. In the β-decay study, 75,77Ni nuclei were implanted into the WAS3ABi silicon array, while γ rays from excited states in 75,77Cu emitted after β decay of the implanted ions were detected with the EURICA Ge detector array that was surrounding the active stopper. In a second experiment within the SEASTAR campaign at RIKEN, the same 75,77Cu nuclei were produced in (p,2p) knockout reactions from 76,78Zn beam particles at around 250 MeV/nucleon impinging onto the MINOS liquid hydrogen target. In the latter experiment the DALI2 NaI array was used to detect de-excitation γ rays measured in coincidence with Cu nuclei identified in the Zero Degree Spectrometer. Both studies are complimentary and greatly contribute to our understanding on the nuclear structure in the 78Ni region.

Precise spectroscopic information on the fast neutron induced fission of the 238U(n,f) reaction was recently gained using a new technique which involved coupling of the Miniball high resolution y-ray spectrometer and the LICORNE directional neutron source. The experiment allowed measurement of the isotopic fission yields for around 40 even-even nuclei at an incident neutron energy of around 2 MeV where yield data are very sparse. In addition spectroscopic information on very neutron-rich fission products was obtained. Results were compared to models, both the JEFF-3.1.1 data base and the GEF code, and large discrepancies for the S1 fission mode in the Sn/Mo isotope pair were discovered. This suggests that current models are overestimating the role played by spherical shell effects in fast neutron induced fission. In late 2017 and 2018 the nu-ball hybrid spectrometer will be constructed at the IPN Orsay to perform further experimental investigations with directional neutrons coupled to a powerful hybrid Ge/LaBr3 detector array. This will open up new possibilities for measurements of fission yields for fast-neutron-induced fission using the spectroscopic technique and will be complimentary to other methods being developed.

Excited states in mirror nuclei 31S and 31P were populated in the 1n and 1p exit channels, respectively, of the reaction 20Ne + 12C. The beam of 20Ne, with an energy of 33 MeV, was delivered for the first time by the Piave-Alpi accelerator of the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. Angular correlations of coincident pairs and Doppler-shift attenuation lifetime measurements in 31S and 31P were performed using the multidetector array GASP in conjunction with the EUCLIDES charged particle detector. A comparison of the determined B(E1) strengths of the analog mirror 7/2- → 5/2+ transitions indicates the presence of a violation of isospin symmetry.

Enhanced γ-decay on the tail of the giant electric dipole resonance, such as the scissors or pygmy resonances, can have significant impact on (n,γ) reaction rates. These rates are important input for modeling processes that take place in astrophysical environments and nuclear reactors. Recent results from the University of Oslo indicate the existence of a significant enhancement in the photon strength function for nuclei in the actinide region due to the scissors resonance. Further, the M1 strength distribution of the scissors resonances in rare earth nuclei has been studied extensively over the years. To investigate the evolution and persistence of the scissor resonance in other mass regions, an experiment was performed utilizing the NaI(Tl) γ-ray detector array (CACTUS) and silicon particle telescopes (SiRi) at the University of Oslo Cyclotron laboratory. Particle-γ coincidences from the 181Ta(d,p)182Ta and 181Ta(d,d')181Ta reactions were used to measure the nuclear level density and photon strength function of the well-deformed 181Ta and 182Ta systems, to investigate the existence of resonances below the neutron separation energy.

The γ-ray strength functions and nuclear level densities in the quasi-continuum of 180,181Ta are extracted from particle-γ coincidence events with the Oslo Method, below the Sn. The data were used as input in the TALYS reaction code for calculations of the astrophysical Maxwellian-averaged (n,γ) cross-sections to investigate nucleosynthesis of nature's rarest stable isotope 180Ta.

Within the SEASTAR project at RIKEN-RIBF, 66Cr and 70,72Fe have been produced via protonknockout reactions, and their first excited 2+ and 4+ states have been discovered. The combination of the liquid-hydrogen target and TPC system MINOS has been used in combination with the DALI2 detector array for the first time. A 345 MeV/u 238U beam with a mean intensity of about 12 pnA impinged on a Be target. Fission fragments were separated and identified using the BigRIPS spectrograph, and reaction products were analyzed using the ZeroDegree spectrograph. A plateau of excitation energies, with a small change in the systematic trends past N = 44, reveals an extension of the N = 40 region of collectivity toward N = 50. Hence, the isotopes of interest are located within the N = 40 island of inversion. An interpretation of the observed trends is offered through large scale shell model calculations.

The γ-ray strength function and level density of 111, 112, 113Sn are being studied at the Oslo Cyclotron Laboratory (OCL) up to the neutron binding energy by applying the Oslo method to particle-γ coincidence data. The preliminary results for the γ-ray strength function are discussed in the context of the results for the more neutron-rich Sn-isotopes previously studied at OCL.

An excess of strength on the low-energy tail of the giant dipole resonance recently has been observed in the γ-decay from the quasicontinuum of 195,196Pt. The nature of this phenomenon is not yet fully investigated. If this feature is present also in the γ-ray strength of the neutron-rich isotopes, it can affect the neutron-capture reactions involved in the formation of heavy-elements in stellar nucleosynthesis. The experimental level density and γ-ray strength function of 195,196Pt are presented together with preliminary calculations of the corresponding neutron-capture cross sections.

The synthesis of the neutron deficient 138La nucleus has been a puzzle for a long time. It has not been clear whether it is produced through photodisintegration processes or neutrino induced reactions due to unavailability of experimental data for nuclear level densities and γ strength functions of 138,139La nuclei. In the present work these nuclear properties have been measured and are used to investigate the synthesis of 138La. The results support the neutrino interactions as a dominant production process for 138La.

The region of neutron-rich nuclei beyond 208Pb has been very difficult to explore due to its high mass and exoticity. However, recent experimental improvements allowed one to perform a quite extended isomer decay spectroscopy of these nuclei.

The study of the collective properties of nuclear excitations far from stability provides information about the shell structure at extreme conditions. Spectroscopic observables such as the energy or the transition probabilities of the lowest states, in nuclei with large neutron excess, allow to probe the density and isospin dependence of the effective interaction. Indeed, it was recently shown that tensor and three-body forces play an important role in breaking and creating magic numbers. Emblematic is the case of the evolution of the Ni isotopic chain where several features showed up moving from the most neutron rich stable isotope (64Ni) towards the 78Ni nucleus where the large neutron excess coincides with a double shell closure. In this framework, we have recently performed an experiment with the goal to extract the B(E2; 0+ → 2+) value for the 74Ni nucleus in an intermediate-energy Coulomb excitation experiment: preliminary results are discussed.

The properties of the excited states of gold isotopes were investigated at the Oslo Cyclotron Laboratory. This study is important for the understanding of neutron capture rates in astrophysical plasmas relevant for heavy element nucleosynthesys.

A measurement of the high-lying states in 208Pb has been made using 17O beams at 20 MeV/u. The gamma decay following inelastic excitation was measured with the detector system AGATA Demonstrator based on segmented HPGe detectors, coupled to an array of large volume LaBr3:Ce scintillators and to an array of Si detectors. Preliminary results in comparison with (γ,γ’) data, for states in the 5-8 MeV energy interval, are presented.

The ability of a cluster of three segmented Ge crystals (“AGATA module”) acting as a Compton polarimeter to measure the linear polarization of gamma rays has been investigated at an energy close to 511 keV. Partially polarized gamma rays have been produced by Coulomb excitation of the first excited state of 104Pd a and 108Pd.

The study of the evolution of nuclear shells far from stability provides fundamental information about the shape and symmetry of the nuclear mean field. Nuclei with large neutron/proton ratio allow to probe the density dependence of the effective interaction. Indeed, it was recently shown that tensor and three-body forces play an important role in breaking and creating magic numbers. Of particular interest is the region of 78Ni where the large neutron excess coincides with a double shell closure. We have recently measured the B(E2; 0+ → 2+) of the 74Ni nucleus in an intermediate-energy Coulomb excitation experiment performed at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory of the Michigan State University. The 74Ni secondary beam has been produced by fragmentation of 86Kr at 140 AMeV on a thick Be target. Selected radioactive fragments impinged on a secondary 197Au target where the measurement of the emitted γ-rays allows to extract the Coulomb excitation cross section and related structure information. Preliminary B(E2) values do not point towards an enhancement of the transition matrix element and the comparison to what was already measured by Aoi and co-workers in [1] opens new scenarios in the interpretation of the shell evolution of the Z=28 isotopes.

Lifetimes of first 4+ and 6+ states have been measured in neutron-rich isotopes of Zr, Mo, Ru and Pd using the recoil distance Doppler shift method at GANIL. The nuclei were produced through a fusion-fission reaction in inverse kinematics. The fission fragments were fully identified in the large-acceptance VAMOS spectrometer and γ-rays were detected in coincidence with the EXOGAM germanium array. Lifetimes of excited states in the range of 1–100 ps were measured with the Cologne plunger. Preliminary lifetime results are presented as well as a discussion on the evolution of the collectivity in this region.

Multinucleon transfer reactions have been investigated in 40Ar+208Pb with the Prisma+Clara set-up. The experimental differential cross sections of different neutron transfer channels have been obtained at three different angular settings taking into account the transmission through the spectrometer. The experimental yields of the excited states have been determined via particle-γ coincidences. In odd Ar isotopes, we reported a signif cant population of 11/2− states, reached via neutron transfer. Their structure matches a stretched conf guration of the valence neutron coupled to vibration quanta.

1. Tibial dyschondroplasia (TD) is a skeletal disorder in broilers that has financial implications, necessitating dietary modifications to reduce the prevalence of this disease. This study explored how arginine silicate inositol complex (ASI) supplementation affected tibial growth plate (TGP) and overall bone health in broilers with manganese (Mn) deficiency-induced TD. 2. A total of 240 broiler chicks were divided into four groups, each consisting of 60 birds (15 replicates of four broilers each) as follows: i) Control, with 60 mg Mn per kg of diet; ii) ASI, with 60 mg Mn and 1 g ASI per kg of diet; iii) TD, with 22 mg Mn per kg of diet, and iv) TD+ASI, with 22 mg Mn and 1 g ASI per kg of diet. 3. It was found that ASI supplementation increased tibial bone length in Mn-deficient TD broilers (p = 0.007). There was no Mn x ASI interaction for other bone morphometry variables (p > 0.05). However, both tibial bone mineral content and density were affected by Mn and ASI (p < 0.05). With ASI supplementation, serum bone-specific alkaline phosphatase and osteocalcin levels were elevated in the TD+ASI group compared to the TD group (p < 0.001). In the TD group, osteoprotegerin (OPG) levels in the TGP decreased compared to the control groups (p < 0.001). 4. In contrast, ASI supplementation in the TD broilers counteracted the decrease in OPG compared to TD broilers without ASI supplementation (p < 0.001). The Mn level and ASI supplementation significantly influenced the OPG/receptor activator of the nuclear factor-κB ligand ratio (p < 0.001). 5. In conclusion, the results demonstrated that inclusion of ASI in broiler diets could enhance bone formation variables by controlling OPG levels in the TGP, potentially serving as an effective method to decrease the occurrence of TD. OBJECTIVE: COVID-19 is a disease that affects and damages the neurological system. The aim of this study was to evaluate the fetal neurodevelopmental status through maternal serum and umbilical cord BDNF levels. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this prospective study, 88 pregnant women were evaluated. Demographic and peripartum characteristics of the patients were recorded. Samples were collected from pregnant women for maternal serum and the umbilical cord BDNF levels during delivery. RESULTS: In this study, 40 pregnant women hospitalized with COVID-19 formed the infected group and 48 pregnant women without COVID-19 formed the healthy control group. Demographic and postpartum characteristics were similar in both groups. Maternal serum BDNF values were significantly lower in the COVID-19 infected group (1597.0 ± 337.3 pg/ml) than in the healthy group (1783.2 ± 394.1 pg/ml) (p=0.019). Fetal BDNF levels were 1794.9 ± 440.3 pg/ml in the healthy group and 1691.0 ± 368.6 pg/ml in COVID-19 infected pregnant women group and statistically similar between groups (p=0.232). CONCLUSIONS: Results showed that while maternal serum BDNF levels decreased in the presence of COVID-19, there was no difference in umbilical cord BDNF levels. La terapia con radioligando que se dirige al antígeno de membrana específico de la próstata (PSMA) se ha considerado recientemente como una opción en el tratamiento del cáncer de próstata resistente a la castración metastásica (mCRPC). El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar los datos bioquímicos, cliónicos y radiológicos de los pacientes que recibieron tratamiento con 177-Lu-PSMA-617 RLT en nuestra cliónica tras el diagnóstico de mCRPC, e investigar la relación entre el momento del tratamiento y la localización de las metástasis y la supervivencia. Este es un estudio observacional retrospectivo realizado en un único centro de diciembre de 2016 a diciembre de 2019. Los pacientes se sometieron a tratamiento con 177-Lu-PSMA-617 RLT con un diagnóstico de mCRPC. Usamos la prueba de Kaplan-Meier y la prueba de riesgo proporcional de regresión de Cox para evaluar los datos de supervivencia. Se incluyeron 95 pacientes con una edad promedio de 70,45 años (50-85). La mediana de seguimiento fue de 10,86 meses (8,15-11,94) y la mediana de las líneas de tratamiento con 177-Lu-PSMA-617 RLT fue de 4 (1-5). Se encontró que la mediana de supervivencia global fue de 17,03 ± 5,78 meses en los pacientes que recibieron el tratamiento en la tercera línea o líneas inferiores, mientras que fue de 10,30 ± 0,93 meses en los pacientes que recibieron el tratamiento en la cuarta línea o más (p ± 0,021). Al evaluar a los pacientes con metástasis únicamente óseas y a los pacientes con metástasis óseas y ganglionares, la mediana de supervivencia global fue de 11,46 ± 0,87 meses y 12,13 ± 3,02 meses (p = 0,445), respectivamente. El tratamiento con 177-Lu-PSMA-617 RLT proporciona una mejor supervivencia en el tratamiento de pacientes diagnosticados con mCRPC después de tratamientos estándar que lo recibieron anteriormente. En los pacientes con mCRPC el tratamiento con 177-Lu-PSMA-617 RLT presenta mejor supervivencia si se realiza antes de la cuarta l-nea de tratamiento est ndar. La terapia con 177-Lu-PSMA-617 RLT podr-a ser un método de tratamiento eficaz en pacientes con mCRPC con met stasis óseas y ganglionares. Radioligand therapy which targets the prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA) has recently considered as option in the treatment of metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). The aim of this study was to evaluate the biochemical, clinical and radiological data of patients received treatment with 177-Lu-PSMA-617 RLT in our clinic following the diagnosis of mCRPC, and to investigate the relationship between treatment timing and metastasis region and survival. This is a retrospective, observational, single-center study from December 2016 to December 2019. Patients underwent 177-Lu-PSMA-617 RLT with a diagnosis of mCRPC. We used the Kaplan-Meier test and the Cox regression proportional hazard test to assess survival data. 95 patients with an average age of 70.45 (50-85) were evaluated retrospectively. Median follow-up was 10.86 months (8.15-11.94 months) and the median lines of 177-Lu-PSMA-617 RLT treatment was 4 (1 to 5). Median overall survival was found to be 17.03 ± 5.78 months in the patients receiving the treatment at the third or lower lines while it was 10.30 ± 0.93 months in patients receiving the treatment at the fourth or higher lines (p = 0.021). When evaluating patients with only bone metastasis and patients with bone and lymph node metastasis, the median overall survival was 11.46 ± 0.87 months and 12.13 ± 3.02 months (p = 0.445), respectively. 177-Lu-PSMA-617 RLT treatment provides better survival in the treatment of patients diagnosed with mCRPC after standard treatments and received it earlier. 177-Lu-PSMA-617 RLT treatment could be an effective treatment method in mCRPC patients with bone and lymph node metastasis.
