Post-anthesis effect of phosphorus (P)-deficit is less studied in plants. P-deficit analysis is rarely performed in different tissues of the plant together. The present study analyzed total-P, inorganic-P, acid phosphatases, ribonucleases, carbohydrates, and antioxidants in the roots, lower leaves, flag leaves, and spikelets at 0, 10, 20, and 30 days after anthesis and recorded yield components at harvest in rice cultivars CSR10 (low-P tolerant) and Pusa44 (low-P susceptible) under P-deprivation (P0) compared to P-application at 30 kg ha−1 (P30). Total-P was deficient in the roots and leaves of Pusa44 compared to CSR10 under P0. Acid phosphatases and ribonucleases were enhanced by roots under P0, and the increase was exceptionally high in CSR10. Hexoses, sucrose, and starch levels remained low in the vegetative tissues of Pusa44 compared to CSR10 under P0. Starch and sucrose were mobilized from vegetative tissues especially from the roots of CSR10 compared to Pusa44 under P0. Sucrose and starch levels were high in the spikelets of CSR10 compared to Pusa44 under P0. Antioxidants were high in the vegetative tissues especially in the roots of CSR10 compared to Pusa44 under P0. At harvest, unfilled grains per panicle increased and grain yield reduced in Pusa44 under P0. Results concluded that post-anthesis roots metabolic activities, in the form of acid phosphatases/ribonucleases for P-acquisition and antioxidants to counteract stress and starch/sucrose mobilization toward spikelets, may play an important role toward low-P tolerance in rice. In the present study, impact of domestic waste water (Sewage sludge) on the morphological characters which are shows on maize seed, shoot, root and leaf per areas. Sewage water is also used for crop irrigation. Crops are consumed by animals and humans as the food diet. The polluted substances are accumulated in plants during the growing process. On the polluted irrigated plants different analysis of variance showed that the effect of difference rate of seed germination, shoot, root, area of leaf per plant. Background. Fraxinus excelsior L. is a common forest species in the Central Russian Upland, used to produce valuable lumber and for landscaping. Mass mortality of this species due to fungi and insects determines the relevance of its detailed research. Tree crown development features play an important role in the tree’s life in both dense communities and open spaces. Materials and methods. Shoots and large branches were collected from the apical part of the crown for ten years in Belgorod and Leningrad Provinces. The lengths of internodes and shoots, the numbers of leaves and branchings, and shoot development patterns were analyzed. An unmanned aerial vehicle was employed to examine the treetops. The complexes of large branches on the crown periphery in different age states (g1, g2, and g3) were studied both by direct measurement and using photographs. The effect of temperatures on the length and number of leaves was assessed with a two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results. Shoots of F. excelsior are significantly shorter at high mean temperatures in the second ten-day period of June. The number of leaves on them is significantly greater at high temperatures in the second ten-day period of May. Six-to-eight-leafed shoots make up the ascending part on the curve of the sequence of internode lengths for the most developed shoots. In ontogenetic states g1 and g2, the crown surface is represented by sections of large branches. In the g3 state, they break up into complexes of small weakly branching spherical structures. The apical branches of the umbrella-shaped crown of generative ash trees are inverted cone-shaped shoot complexes with a similar development pattern. Conclusion. The structure and development of F. excelsior branches characterizes the ecological features of the species, manifested through the absence of obvious branching orders and combined with the inverted conical shape of large branches.

To determine the content of phenolcarboxylic acids using gas chromatography–mass spectrometer (GC–MS) in the obtained extract, conduct a study of the antimicrobial, antifungal, and antioxidant activities of Rubus idaeus shoot lipophilic extract.

In this study, we used Hordeum vulgare leaf extract as a sustainable environmental approach for producing FeS nanoparticles (FeS NPs). The synthesized FeS NPs were examined using the SEM, UV-Vis, and XRD powder diffraction techniques. XRD tests validated the structure of FeS nanoparticles. These nanoparticles had an average 14 nm crystal size and possessed a 2.0 eV band gap with an even distribution. A further study was conducted to investigate Hordeum vulgare capped FeS nanoparticle's impact on seed priming and germination characteristics. The seed priming effect on the germination of Trigonella foenum-graecumand Brassica nigra seedswas examined using various concentrations of phyto-capped FeS NPs. The Germination rate occurs optimally at doses of 15mg and 20mg, but the germination rate is retarded at 30mg of FeS NPs in both the seed types. FeS NPs are tiny and highly reactive, allowing them to improve seed water uptake and nutrient management. As a result, this enhances germination and plant growth by shortening the average germination period. This study aimed to develop a suitable micropropagation protocol for black mulberry (Morus nigra L.), which cannot be easily clonally propagated like the other mulberry species. Clonal propagation of this species is gaining importance due to its health benefits and utilization in pharmacology. The effects of the culture media and cytokinin concentrations on the micropropagation of black mulberry were investigated. Single-axillary bud explants grown on Murashige and Skoog medium, Driver and Kuniyuki walnut medium, and Nas and Read medium (NRM) containing 0.25 mg L-1 of benzyladenine (BA) plus 0.01 mg L-1 of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) were compared to cultures grown on NRM with thidiazuron (TDZ), meta-Topolin (mT), or BA at concentrations of 1.25, 2.5, 5.0, or 7.5 mg L-1 plus 0.01 mg L-1 of IBA. The culture medium had a significant effect on the shoot length, which was greater on the NRM (3.3 shoots per explant) compared to the other media. Shoot multiplication was similar on all of the tested media. TDZ negatively affected shoot formation and triggered rosette shoots and/or large callus formation. BA and mT promoted both shoot proliferation and elongation. Around 84% of the micro shoots rooted and the rooted shoots were successfully acclimatized to ex vitro conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lythrum salicaria L., commonly referred to as Purple Loosestrife, is a medicinal plant that has been valued for its therapeutic properties for centuries. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of using activated charcoal on establishing the in vitro propagation of L. Salicaria L. In this study, shoot explants (1.5 cm) were excised from buds that were 30 days old with a sterile scalpel blade and then cultured on full-strength MS medium supplemented with different concentrations of activated charcoal to multiply and increase the length of shoots. Additionally, to investigate the in vitro rooting response, shoot tip explants were cut from elongated shoots and cultured on an MS medium containing different concentrations of NAA with or without activated charcoal with three replicates in each experiment. MS medium with 0.5 g/L activated charcoal had the highest mean shoot length (7.1 cm ± 0.15) and mean number of shoots per explant (2.4±0.11). The results show that 0.5 mg/L NAA and 0.2 g/L activated charcoal provide the best response for rooting. The improved protocol can be utilized to grow roots in micro shoots of L. salicaria, which is an important stage in the micro propagation of L. salicaria. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is an important oilseed crop worldwide. However, soil salinization becomes one of the main limiting factors of peanut production. Therefore, developing salt-tolerant varieties and understanding the molecular mechanisms of salt tolerance is important to protect peanut yield in saline areas. In this study, we selected four peanut varieties with contrasting response to salt challenges with T1 and T2 being tolerance and S1 and S2 being susceptible. High-throughput RNA sequencing resulted in more than 314.63 Gb of clean data from 48 samples. We identified 12,057 new genes, 7,971of which have functional annotations. KEGG pathway enrichment analysis of uniquely expressed genes in salt-tolerant peanut revealed that upregulated genes in the root are involved in the MAPK signaling pathway, fatty acid degradation, glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, and upregulated genes in the shoot were involved in plant hormone signal transduction and the MAPK signaling pathway. Na+ content, K+ content, K+/ Na+, and dry mass were measured in root and shoot tissues, and two gene co-expression networks were constructed based on weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) in root and shoot. In this study, four key modules that are highly related to peanut salt tolerance in root and shoot were identified, plant hormone signal transduction, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, starch and sucrose metabolism, flavonoid biosynthesis, carbon metabolism were identified as the key biological processes and metabolic pathways for improving peanut salt tolerance. The hub genes include genes encoding ion transport (such as HAK8, CNGCs, NHX, NCL1) protein, aquaporin protein, CIPK11 (CBL-interacting serine/threonine-protein kinase 11), LEA5 (late embryogenesis abundant protein), POD3 (peroxidase 3), transcription factor, and MAPKKK3. There were some new salt-tolerant genes identified in peanut, including cytochrome P450, vinorine synthase, sugar transport protein 13, NPF 4.5, IAA14, zinc finger CCCH domain-containing protein 62, beta-amylase, fatty acyl-CoA reductase 3, MLO-like protein 6, G-type lectin S-receptor-like serine/threonine-protein kinase, and kinesin-like protein KIN-7B. The identification of key modules, biological pathways, and hub genes in this study enhances our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying salt tolerance in peanuts. This knowledge lays a theoretical foundation for improving and innovating salt-tolerant peanut germplasm.

This article presents the results of testing the effect of virus infection on the frost resistance of sour cherry varieties of Ukrainian breeding. ‘Ksenia’ and ‘Boguslavka’ varieties were used. Damage to the tissues of buds and shoots at temperatures of 4 °C, –25 °С, –30 °С was compared on plants infected with viruses (PNRSV in the variety ‘Ksenia’, PDV in the variety ‘Boguslavka’) and healthy plants. The degree of frost damage was classified on a scale from zero (no damage) to five (100% tissue damage). In each variant, 10–34 buds and 3–14 shoots were tested. It was found that the PDV and PNRSV viruses have a negative effect on the frost resistance of bud tissues. At –25°С, the average degree of bud tissue damage reached 3.2 points in the variety ‘Ksenia’ (PNRSV) and 4.1 points in the variety ‘Boguslavka’ (PDV). At –30 °C, the degree of damage to the buds of both varieties was 4.2 points. The same temperatures had a less impact on the tissues of the shoots. The highest damage was recorded in cambium tissues of the infected ‘Boguslavka’ variety at –30 °С, and the lowest was in bark samples of the infected ‘Ksenia’ variety (0.8 points at –25 °С).

Humic substances (HS), a natural polymer isomeric mixture, is an important component of terrestrial ecosystem. Its promotion effect on plant growth has been widely studied in recent years. Multiple signaling pathways play an important role in the process of HS promoting plant growth and development. The article summarizes the signaling pathway transduction and crosstalk mechanisms of HS in promoting the growth and development of plant roots and shoots. During the promotion of root growth, HS mainly involves the transduction of Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), nitric oxide (NO), abscisic acid (ABA), reactive oxygen species (ROS) and Ca2+ signal, and the complex crosstalk between them; During the promotion of shoot growth, HS mainly involves the transmission of cytokinin (CTK) and ABA signaling pathways, and the complex crosstalk occurs between nitrate and CTK signaling pathways. HS regulates plant physiological metabolism through a complex metabolic network, involving multiple complicated signaling pathways and crosstalk processes. Among them, (PM) H+- ATPase is the key node of HS promoting root and shoot growth, and multiple signaling pathways mediate the signal transduction of cascade amplification via (PM) H+- ATPase. NO signal has a complex crosstalk process with multiple signaling pathways that regulate root and shoot growth, and is an important crosstalk signaling molecule involved in the promotion of plant growth by HS. There are other signaling pathways involved in the growth and development of roots and shoots triggered by HS, among which the defense signaling pathways salicylicacid (SA) and jasmonic acid (JA) are regulated by signaling pathways IAA, NO, ABA and CTK. Due to the dispersion, heterogeneity and complexity of biochemical research of HS, the relevant mechanism of the short-term promoting effect of HS on plant growth and the overall action mechanism on plant growth and development during the whole growth stage have not yet been clarified. Therefore, further in-depth analysis is needed to reveal the signal transduction, crossover, crosstalk and integration pathways involved in the growth promotion process, and the complex nutritional and metabolic pathways. The result of our research could provide theoretical basis for studying the action mechanism of HS physiological activity and its application in agricultural production.

Abstract Background Dwarf rootstocks have important practical significance for high-density planting in pear orchards. The shoots of ‘Cuiguan’ grafted onto the dwarf rootstock were shorter than those grafted onto the vigorous rootstock. However, the mechanism of shorter shoot formation is not clear. Results In this study, the current-year shoot transcriptomes and phytohormone contents of ‘CG‒QA’ (‘Cuiguan’ was grafted onto ‘Quince A’, and ‘Hardy’ was used as interstock) and ‘CG‒DL’ (‘Cuiguan’ was grafted onto ‘Duli’, and ‘Hardy’ was used as interstock) were compared. The transcriptome results showed that a total of 452 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, including 248 downregulated genes and 204 upregulated genes; the plant hormone signal transduction and zeatin biosynthesis pathways were significantly enriched in the top 20 KEGG enrichment terms. Abscisic acid (ABA) was the most abundant hormone in ‘CG‒QA’ and ‘CG‒DL’; auxin and cytokinin (CTK) were the most diverse hormones; additionally, the contents of ABA, auxin, and CTK in ‘CG‒DL’ were higher than those in ‘CG‒QA’, while the fresh shoot of ‘CG‒QA’ accumulated more gibberellin (GA) and salicylic acid (SA). Metabolome and transcriptome co-analysis identified three key hormone-related DEGs, of which two (Aldehyde dehydrogenase gene ALDH3F1 and YUCCA2) were upregulated and one (Cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase gene CKX3) was downregulated. Conclusions Based on the results of transcriptomic and metabolomic analysis, we found that auxin and CTK mainly regulated the shoot differences of ‘CG–QA’ and ‘CG–DL’, and other hormones such as ABA, GA, and SA synergistically regulated this process. Three hormone-related genes ALDH3F1, YUCCA2, and CKX3 were the key genes contributing to the difference in shoot growth between ‘CG–QA’ and ‘CG–DL’ pear. This research provides new insight into the molecular mechanism underlying shoot shortening after grafted onto dwarf rootstocks.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the foliar chelated forms of Mg and Fe, on grape yield and mineral status of the shoots of vine cultivar Cardinal. Field trials were organized using a random block system with three variants, including a control (Variant I), each replicated three times. Foliar fertilizers were applied at a concentration of 0.5% on four occasions throughout the vegetation period: before and after blooming, during buckshot berry stage, and at the verasion stage. Over the ivestigation of three years, the application of foliar Mg and Fe fertilizers significantly influenced grape yield. The variant treated with Fe (VFe) demonstrated a higher average yield of 14.87 t/ha. Furthermore, a noticeable impact of foliar fertilizers on the concentration of analyzed elements in grapevine shoots was observed. Over the three-year period, the average content of macro elements, including nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, and iron, was higher in the treated variants compared to the control. An investigation was conducted to know the influence of growth hormones on shoot growth in hardwood cuttings of fig (Ficus carica L.). The experiment was set up in RBD having thirty cuttings with three replications treated with different concentrations of growth hormones viz., T1 (IBA 1000 ppm), T2 (IBA 2000 ppm), T3 (NAA 1000 ppm), T4 (NAA 2000 ppm), T5 (IBA 1000 ppm + NAA 1000 ppm), T6 (IBA 2000 ppm + NAA 2000 ppm) along with control. Present study revealed earliest sprouting, maximum shoot diameter, shoot length and number of leaves, fresh and dry weights shoot with T6 (IBA 2000 ppm + NAA 2000 ppm). On the basis of findings of this study fig hardwood cuttings treated with IBA 2000 ppm + NAA 2000 ppm under the shade house conditions can be recommended to nursery growers and researchers to obtain desirable shoot growth under Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. The identification of soybean genotypes tolerant to soil compaction makes it possible to reduce productivity loss under stress conditions. Added to this, the prior selection of these genotypes will result in greater assertiveness in the positioning of cultivars in the field. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the susceptibility of soybean genotypes to compaction in greenhouse and field conditions; verify which characteristics of seedlings under high resistance to root penetration are correlated with crop production in compacted soil; and to validate the substrate mechanical impedance method for evaluating the susceptibility of plant genotypes to soil compaction. Seeds of 20 genotypes were sown in a substrate mechanical impedance system under controlled conditions. The characteristics evaluated were total root length, total root surface area, mean root diameter, total root volume, taproot length, shoot length, root dry matter and seedling shoot dry matter. In the field experiment, half of the planting area was compacted, constituting two treatments, soil with and without compaction. The percentage of seedling emergence, initial plant height, stem diameter, number of nodes, internode length, number of lateral branches, shoot dry matter, final plant height, absolute and relative growth rate, number of pods, weight of 100 seeds and grain yield. In addition, the number of days between soybean sowing until plant flowering and grain harvest was recorded according to genotype and soil compaction level. In a controlled environment, genotypes tolerant to soil compaction show greater plasticity of root characteristics and smaller alterations in the shoot of seedlings. In the field, these genotypes show smaller reductions in growth rate, height, number of pods and grain yield. The shoot dry matter and the root dry matter of soybean seedlings in a mechanical impedance system present a positive and negative correlation, respectively, with soybean yield in compacted soil, indicating that the genetically determined susceptibility to soil compaction stress was similar throughout ontogenesis. The substrate mechanical impedance system used to evaluate the performance of soybean seedlings under stress, facilitates the decision‐making in breeding programs focused on identifying genotypes expressing soil compaction tolerance. Ultraviolet (UV)-B radiation is considered one of the major detrimental rays coming from the Sun. UV-B radiation has a harmful impact on plant growth and development. The effect of UV-B radiation was studied on 64 rice (Oryza sativa L.) genotypes during the vegetative season. An equal number of genotypes from the japonica (50%) and indica (50%) subspecies were phenotyped using the Soil-Plant-Atmosphere-Research (SPAR) units. The 10 kJ UV-B was imposed 12 days after planting (DAP) and continued for three weeks (21 d). Based on the combined ultraviolet-B radiation response index (CUVBRI) for each genotype, the 64 rice genotypes were classified into sensitive, moderately sensitive, moderately tolerant, and tolerant. Various shoot traits, such as plant height, tiller, and leaf numbers, were measured. We also studied critical root phenological traits like root volume, diameter, tips, and forks. Out of all the studied shoot traits, leaf area showed maximum reduction for both indica (54%) and japonica (48%). Among the root traits, root length decreased by negligible (1%) for indica as compared to japonica (5%), while root crossing and forks showed a maximum decline for japonica (37 and 42%), respectively. This study is timely, meaningful, and required because it will help breeders select a tolerant or sensitive rice line for better yield and production under abiotic stresses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Metabolome and transcriptome co-analysis identified three key hormone-related DEGs, of which two (Aldehyde dehydrogenase gene ALDH3F1 and YUCCA2) were upregulated and one (Cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase gene CKX3) was downregulated. Conclusions: Based on the results of transcriptomic and metabolomic analysis, we found that auxin and CTK mainly regulated the shoot differences of 'CG–QA' and 'CG–DL', and other hormones such as ABA, GA, and SA synergistically regulated this process. Three hormone-related genes ALDH3F1, YUCCA2, and CKX3 were the key genes contributing to the difference in shoot growth between 'CG–QA' and 'CG–DL' pear. Micropropagation is a valuable means for large-scale production and preservation of invasive alien species such as ragleaf. To determine the concentration of kinetin adequate for in vitro growth of the ragleaf flower, seeds of the plant were propagated in vitro using Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with basal 0.5 mg L-1 Naphthalene Acetic Acid and incubated for four weeks. The growing shoots were cut into pieces and inoculated into MS media with five kinetin concentrations: 0.0, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 mg L-1. The tubes were kept in an incubation room for seven weeks. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with ten replications. Shoot length (cm) and the number of leaves, nodes, and roots were measured. The control medium recorded less growth performance across all the variables, indicating the important role of the exogenous kinetin. The plants in 2.50 mg L-1 kinetin were the tallest (7.23±0.87 cm) with the highest number of leaves (28.17±2.57), nodes (10.50±1.02) and shoots (3.83±0.17). The media containing 2.50 mg L-1 kinetin also produced the highest number of roots (9.00), which is necessary for the survival of the seedlings. The results indicate that 2.5 mg L-1 is adequate for cultured C. crepidioides.

Aim. Comparative study and analysis of the variability of characters of the shoots and fruit of Fagus orientalis Lipsky from subalpine populations of the Western and Eastern Caucasus. Material and Methods. For the analysis randomly collected annual shoots with fruit from 47 Fagus orientalis trees from 6 populations of the Western and Eastern Caucasus were used. Measurement data from 12 traits were used to identify variability. The total repetition of measurements for each trait for 6 populations was 1318. Results. A comparative study of the variability of traits in the shoot and fruit of Fagus orientalis from 6 populations of the Eastern and Western Caucasus showed a predominance of size traits in individuals from the Eastern Caucasus. The trait “length of annual shoot” had the highest level of variability – 70.6 %. Low and medium levels were detected in fruit traits, leaf blade length and width, and plus length. The results of Student's t‐tests showed the greatest significance of differences in the “length of annual bud” trait – 28.98. Correlation analysis revealed positive, reliable relationships for most pairs of characteristics. The closest of them are noted in all fruit characters and in the character of length and width of the leaf blade. Conclusions. The predominance of size values of traits in individuals from populations of the Eastern Caucasus is associated with climatic conditions – the growing season in the Western Caucasus being shorter by almost a month. The low level of variability of fetal traits confirms their high genetic determination. The “apical bud length” trait can be used as an indicator, reflecting the degree of influence of environmental factors on populations. The closest correlations are manifested by the characteristics of the fruit and a pair of characteristics ‐ the length and width of the leaf blade.

Heavy metals are widely available in the environment due to the natural processes, industrial, anthropogenic activities and ultimately in the results contaminate the immediate environment. The presence of the heavy metals such as Pb, Cd, Cr, Ni, Fe and Cu in environment disturb the quality of ecosystems, soils, water, air and vegetation. The chromium metal at higher level in ecosystem is an alarming signal for both developed and developing countries. Pennisetum glaucum is an annual grass which is widely cultivated in drought, rain fed and high temperature areas. The limited amount of literature available on the impact of chromium stress on P. glaucum. This study was conducted to investigate the beneficial or harmful effect of chromium stress on seed germination and seedling growth performances of P. glaucum in in vitro conditions. The wet (rain, snow, fog, sleet, dew) and dry (transport of aerosol, particles and gases) deposition of acidic substance in environment results due to human, automobile, fossil fuel burning and industrial activities. Acid deposition is worldwide environmental degradation problems and in recent years these acidic materials are increasing at alarming scale in the environment both in developed and developing countries, including Pakistan. Some scientific literature survey reports suggest that plant growth and agriculture yield decrease due to consequence of acid rain. In addition, acid rain is found responsible for producing toxic effects on the morphological parameters of agricultural crop. The evidence collected from last more than fifty years showed the common significant effects of acid rain on seed germination percentage, seedling height, root hair and structure, alteration in leaf anatomy, size and area, stomatal structure, size, pollen germination, photosynthetic pigments and physiological changes in herbs, shrubs and trees. Still, little is known on the impact of acid rain on plant growth. This study was aimed to review the effects of acid mist on growth performances of some selected plant species. This review is contributed with the help of literature survey, research work published on the impact of acid rain on the plant growth.

The main aim of this work is to study the effect of different nutrient supply systems and their effect on the performance of the Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and Lettuce (Lactuca sativa var. crispa) plant integration system. To achieve that, five treatments having different culture systems (T1: Aquaculture (control), T2: Hydroponics (standard requirement: N = 210, P = 31, K = 234, Mg = 48, Ca = 200, S = 64, Fe = 14, Mn = 0.5, Zn = 0.05, B = 0.5, Cu = 0.02 and Mo = 0.01 ppm), T3: Aquaponics without nutrients addition, T4: Aquaponics with supplementary nutrients (KNO3, 101 g L−1, KH2PO4, 136 g L−1, Ca(NO3)2, 236 g L−1, MgSO4, 246 g L−1, K2SO4, 115 g L−1 and chelates for trace elements) in water (EC is 800 ppm) and T5: Aquaponics with supplementary nutrients spray on plants) were carried out. The previous systems were operated at three flow rates, namely, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 L h−1 plant−1. The various water quality parameters, plant growth and fish growth were studied. The result indicated that the highest values of N, P, k, Ca and Mg consumption rate were found with T2 and 1.5 L h−1 plant−1 of flow rate. The root length, fresh and dry of shoot and root for lettuce plants grown in T2 system was better than those grown in different culture system (T3, T4 and T5). Different culture systems showed significant effect on fish growth in terms of weight gain, specific growth rate and feed efficiency ratio. To better understand the dynamics and functional roles of root pressure, we represent a novel and the first complete analytical model for root pressure, which can be applied to complex roots/shoots. The osmotic volume of a single root is equal to that of the vessel lumen in fine roots and adjacent apoplastic spaces. Water uptake occurs via passive osmosis and active solute uptake (Js*, osmol s−1), resulting in the osmolyte concentration Cr (mol·kg−1 of water) at a fixed osmotic volume. Solute loss occurs via two passive processes: radial diffusion of solute Km (Cr− Csoil) from fine roots to soil, where Km is the diffusional constant and Csoil is the soil–solute concentration, and the mass flow of solute and water into the plant from the fine roots. The proposed model predicts the quadratic function of root pressure (Pr), Pr2+bPr+c=0, where b and c are the functions of plant hydraulic resistance, soil water potential, solute flux and gravitational potential. The model demonstrates the root pressure‐mediated distribution of water through the hydraulic architecture of a 6.8‐m‐tall bamboo shoot. This model provides a theoretical basis to test the functional roles of root pressure in shaping the hydraulic architecture and refilling potential xylem embolisms. Background and aims: Cadmium (Cd) contamination poses a potential threat to plant growth and human health. In this study, we aimed to determine the effect of selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) on Cd and selenium (Se) uptake and accumulation in bok choy, and investigate the detoxification mechanism of SeNPs on bok choy under Cd stress. Methods: A pot culture was performed in Cd–contaminated soil with soil applied and foliar–sprayed SeNPs, including SLow, SHigh, FLow, FHigh, and corresponding control treatment. The soil available Cd content, Cd and Se fractions in soil, elements accumulation, subcellular Cd/Se distribution, MDA content, SOD activity, and Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were evaluated. Results: Soil applied SeNPs significantly reduced Cd concentration by 25.9–42.4%, and Cd uptake rate by 33.4–37.8%. Further, soil applied SeNPs had no significant effect on available Cd but did affect Se fractions in soil. Additionally, soil applied SeNPs increased Se concentration by 3.1 − 6.3 times in bok choy and caused a higher Se concentration in root than in shoot, with the residual and organic matter–bound Se mainly affecting Se accumulation in shoot. However, foliar–sprayed SeNPs had no significant effect on Cd uptake but increased Se accumulation by 2.4 − 33.0 times in bok choy. Soil applied and foliar–sprayed SeNPs prompted the distribution of Cd in cell wall and in soluble component in shoot, respectively, which reduced the damage of Cd on organelle. Conclusion: Soil applied SeNPs was an effective method for reducing Cd accumulation and improving Se biofortification and mineral elements accumulation in bok choy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ultraviolet (UV)-B radiation is considered one of the major detrimental rays coming from the Sun. UV-B radiation has a harmful impact on plant growth and development. The effect of UV-B radiation was studied on 64 rice (Oryza sativa L.) genotypes during the vegetative season. An equal number of genotypes from the japonica (50%) and indica (50%) subspecies were phenotyped using the Soil-Plant-Atmosphere-Research (SPAR) units. The 10 kJ UV-B was imposed 12 days after planting (DAP) and continued for three weeks (21 d). Based on the combined ultraviolet-B radiation response index (CUVBRI) for each genotype, the 64 rice genotypes were classified into sensitive, moderately sensitive, moderately tolerant, and tolerant. Various shoot traits, such as plant height, tiller, and leaf numbers, were measured. We also studied critical root phenological traits like root volume, diameter, tips, and forks. Out of all the studied shoot traits, leaf area showed maximum reduction for both indica (54%) and japonica (48%). Among the root traits, root length decreased by negligible (1%) for indica as compared to japonica (5%), while root crossing and forks showed a maximum decline for japonica (37 and 42%), respectively. This study is timely, meaningful, and required because it will help breeders select a tolerant or sensitive rice line for better yield and production under abiotic stresses.

The cotton plant is important since it provides raw materials for various industry branches. Even though cotton is generally drought-tolerant, it is affected negatively by long-term drought stress. The trial was conducted according to the applied experimental design as a completely randomized design (CRD) with three replications to determine a panel of 93 cotton genotypes' genotypic responses against drought under controlled conditions in 2022. All genotypes were watered with 80 mL−1 of water (100% irrigation, field capacity) until three true leaves appeared, and then water stress was applied at a limited irrigation of 75% (60 mL−1), 50% (40 mL−1), and 25% (20 mL−1) of the field capacity. After the trial terminated at 52 days, the cv. G56, G44, G5, and G86 in RL; G1, G56, G44, G86, G51, and G88 in RFW; advanced line G5, followed by the cv. G56, advanced line G44, G75, and the cv. G90 in RDW; G44, followed by G86, the cv. G56, and elite lines G13 and G5 in NLRs were observed as drought-tolerant genotypes, respectively, while G35, G15, G26, G67, and G56 in SL; G15, G52, G60, G31, and G68 in SFW; G35, G52, G57, G41, and G60 in SDW show the highest drought tolerance means, respectively. In conclusion, the commercial varieties with high means in roots, namely G86, G56, G88, and G90, and the genotypes G67, G20, G60, and G57 showing tolerance in shoots, are suggested to be potential parent plants for developing cotton varieties resistant to drought. Using the cultivars found tolerant in the current study as parents in a drought-tolerant variety development marker-assisted selection (MAS) plant breeding program will increase the chance of success in reaching the target after genetic diversity analyses are performed. On the other hand, it is highly recommended to continue the plant breeding program with the G44, G30, G19, G1, G5, G75, G35, G15, G52, G29, and G76 genotypes, which show high tolerance in both root and shoot systems. A field experiment was conducted in the farmer's field at Vijaypura, Bengaluru Rural District during kharif 2017, to study the effect of soil and foliar application of zinc on nutritional composition and uptake by knol khol. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with 10 treatments replicated thrice. The experimental results indicated that significantly higher nitrogen (2.36%), phosphorus (0.37%), potassium (1.60%), sulphur (0.65%) and zinc content (36.48 mg kg-1) was recorded in knol khol shoot by application of RDF and FYM along with 4 kg of zinc through ZnSO4 as soil application and 0.14 per cent zinc through zinc sulphate as foliar spray (T9). Significantly higher nitrogen (2.48%), phosphorus (0.39%), potassium (2.24%), sulphur (0.82%) and zinc content (38.67 mg kg-1) was recorded in knol khol knob with the combined soil and foliar application of zinc @ 4 kg and 0.14 per cent through zinc sulphate respectively, along with RDF and FYM (T9). Uptake of nitrogen (100.05 kg ha-1), phosphorous (15.70 kg ha-1), potassium (72.74 kg ha-1), sulphur (28.76 kg ha-1) and zinc (154.96 g ha-1) by knol khol crop was recorded significantly higher in T9 (4 kg of zinc through zinc sulphate as soil application + 0.14 per cent zinc through zinc sulphate as foliar spray along with RDF and FYM). Introduction: Anacardium occidentale or cashew are popular traditional food and have raised research interest for complementary cancer treatment. Cancer has become leading cause of death and treatment involved severe side effects. In present study, we aim to study the anti-proliferative effects of cashew shoots in breast cancer (MDAMB-231), colorectal cancer (HT-29) and liver cancer (HepG2) cell lines. Methods: Cell lines were treated with 70% ethanolic cashew extract for cytotoxicity test with MTT assay. AO/PI dual fluorescent assay and RNase/PI staining were used to determine apoptosis induction effects. Phytochemicals screening was carried out by using gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS) and liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LCMS). Results: The cytotoxicity assay of cashew shoot extract demonstrated IC50 of 81.1 ± 0.11 µg/ml for MDA-MB-231, 307.5 ± 2.31 µg/ml for HT-29 and 272.6 ± 1.91 µg/ml for HepG2 cell lines. The apoptotic bodies include chromatin condensation, cell blebbing and nuclear fragmentation and apoptosis induction were shown by AO/PI staining. There was significant increase of cell count in sub-G0 phase in MDA-MB-231 cell lines treated with cashew shoot extract. It was demonstrated that cashew shoot extract contained 38 compounds from GCMS such as sitosterol, tannin, pyrogallol, phenol and 20 compounds from LCMS such as citric acid, gallic acid, myricetin and hinokiflavone that may give rise to its anti-cancer effect. Conclusion: Cashew shoot extract demonstrated potential anti-cancer properties thus further study is required to investigate its mechanism as anti-cancer agent. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The effect of beta-lactam antibiotics on shoot induction and plantlet regeneration from cotyledonary nodes was tested using two peanut cultivars. The culture media contained 4 mg/L 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) as the main growth regulator. Various concentrations (100-600 mg/L) of cefotaxime, carbenicillin, and timentin were applied in the culture media. In all the tested media, there were no significant differences in the shoot induction as compared to the control. However, little phytotoxic effect was observed at higher concentrations of these antibiotics in the shoot elongation media. Under shoot elongation medium, shoots turned brownish and partly died at higher concentrations where shooting rates were not affected by the treatments. In cefotaxime, timentin, and carbenicillin-containing media, levels of antibiotics greater than 400, 300, and 200 mg/L, respectively resulted in the brown coloration of plantlets. Moreover, the mean shoot number and shoot weight significantly decreased as their dosage increased. The results indicate that maximum levels of antibiotics have an adverse effect on the growth and development of peanuts. Also, cefotaxime (100-300 mg/L) and timentin (100-300 mg/L) will be sufficient in controlling Agrobacterium growth in the culture media with the least phytotoxic effect on the peanut plants. Excessive tree vigour and late entrance into full production, inherent to sweet cherry trees, are major challenges in the intensive cultivation of this crop. Possible ways to reduce the vigour and stimulate flower induction include shifting the term of pruning and reducing its severity. However, the reaction of the trees may differ depending on specific cultivar, soil and climatic conditions. Therefore, the aim of the study was to determine the effect of various techniques and terms of pruning on young sweet cherry trees in order to adapt the intensive cultivation technology to the arid conditions of southern Ukraine. The results showed a strong cultivar-specific reaction to various pruning treatments. Pruning young sweet cherry trees in late summer contributed to a reduction of trunk and canopy indices by 11-22% on one of the cultivars and an increase in the number of flowers per tree by 1.4-1.7 times on both cultivars, compared to dormant pruning. Low severity pruning reduced 1-year-old shoot length by 9-25% and increased the number of flowers by 1.5-2.5 times compared to more aggressive pruning. The effect of pruning treatments on tree vigour was more pronounced during the first and second year of their application.

Despite current efforts to minimize the impact of industry on ecosystems, the environment is polluted by a range of foreign substances, that can have a negative impact on the living organisms. Examples of widely studied substances are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and recently, substances commonly used in conventional agriculture. In our study we focused on the morphology and anatomy of the vegetative organs of pea plants treated with the active substance of herbicides, flurochloridone (FLC), in concentration representing the residual amount in the soil (5 µM), and PAH fluoranthene (FLT) in concentration representing the middle to high environmental load (5 µM). During the long-term cultivation in nutrient solutions modified by the mentioned pollutants, the growth parameters of roots and shoots were observed in the three growth phases (4 and 8 fully developed leaves and the flowering phase). The growth parameters and observation of the morphology were supplemented with root and stem anatomical analysis using the transverse cross-sections. Both xenobiotics caused the decrease in the biomass production, while the more significant inhibition of growth, compared with control plants, was detected in FLC-treated plants, where the root system was reduced up to 75% and growth parameters of the shoots were reduced about more than 50%. The decrease in root biomass production was accompanied by changes in root branching. FLT treatment caused milder growth inhibition, it was observed about 50% reduction of the root system induced by the shortening of the main and lateral roots. Less pronounced, was also the decrease in stem length caused by FLT. Similar information was obtained about the different degrees of effect of FLC and FLT using anatomical analysis. Both studied substances increased the main root diameter accompanied with increase of the average number of the primary cortex layers. Their influence also caused the more intensive formation of exodermis. Changes in anatomical architecture were also observed in stem, where the FLC treatment changed the arrangement of the vascular bundles and decreased their average number. Our elementary morpho-anatomical study suggests that FLC despite its trace concentration could be more detrimental to plants than FLT, known for its harmful effect on living organisms, in relatively higher concentration. Salicylic acid is a stress-signal molecule that is involved in the modulation of growth and development of plants. There is evidence that this stress-signal molecule has a positive impact on the antioxidant defence system, but few studies have been done on determining the most effective concentration and its impact on the growth and development of cabbage plants cultivated in vitro. In the present experiment, we assessed the impact of three different concentrations of salicylic acid (1 mM, 0.5 mM and 0.1 mM) on seed germination indexes, shoot initiation and proliferation, root development, as well as physiologic traits (phenolic and chlorophyll content). It has been found that a concentration of 1mM SA inhibited both seed germination and shoot development, which is probably related with suppression of GA-mediated pathway. Instead, the addition of 0.1 mM SA stimulated shoot proliferation rate, shortened the time for shoot initiation and increased shoot and root elongation. Seedlings of the parasitic plant genus Cuscuta (dodder) locate hosts by circumnutation, coil around the host near soil level and form a haustorium, establishing a primary parasitism beneath the canopy. Mature shoots elongating from the parasitic region parasitize other hosts on the upper surfaces of their canopy. Although parasitism by dodder is stimulated by blue and far‐red light, and inhibited by red light, the responses to light signals during the developmental stages are not comprehensively understood. Therefore, we compared the effects of different types of light on both circumnutation and parasitism by germinating seedlings and mature shoots of Cuscuta campestris. Seedlings established parasitism under blue and far‐red light, but not under red light, as has been reported repeatedly. By contrast, mature shoots exhibited coiling around the host and haustoria formation even under a red light as well as under blue and far‐red light. These findings indicate that C. campestris modified its response to red light during the transition from young seedlings to mature shoots, facilitating parasitism. Light quality did not affect the circumnutation of either seedlings or mature shoots, indicating that circumnutation and the coiling movement that leads to parasitism were regulated by different environmental signals. Summary statement: Mature shoots of dodder, unlike seedlings, can parasitize host plants under red light. This difference between developmental stages appears to be an adaptation to different light environments and indicates that the coiling movements required for parasitism are not an extension of circumnutation. Advancing our understanding of the mechanisms associated with microbial-mediated signal transduction in plants can enhance our ability to precisely manipulate plant physiology to improve tolerance against biotic and abiotic stresses. Long-distance signal transduction in plants can be initiated by the metabolism of specific microbial taxa in association with plants in the rhizosphere and/or phyllosphere. The transduction of specific long-distance signals in plants can be mediated by mobile peptides, RNA, metabolites, and phytohormones, all of which can be translocated via the vascular system. Embracing the complexity of plant physiological responses and regulation in a holobiont context will advance our knowledge of plant–microbe interactions and foster the development of new chemicals to manipulate plant physiological responses. Microorganisms colonizing the plant rhizosphere and phyllosphere play crucial roles in plant growth and health. Recent studies provide new insights into long-distance communication from plant roots to shoots in association with their commensal microbiome. In brief, these recent advances suggest that specific plant-associated microbial taxa can contribute to systemic plant responses associated with the enhancement of plant health and performance in face of a variety of biotic and abiotic stresses. However, most of the mechanisms associated with microbiome-mediated signal transduction in plants remain poorly understood. In this review, we provide an overview of long-distance signaling mechanisms within plants mediated by the commensal plant-associated microbiomes. We advocate the view of plants and microbes as a holobiont and explore key molecules and mechanisms associated with plant–microbe interactions and changes in plant physiology activated by signal transduction. Salinity tolerance has been documented as one of the main abiotic stresses, disapprovingly impeding the growth and fertility of core food crops including rice in the ecosphere. We have evaluated 24 varieties exposed to salt stress (150–300 mM NaCl; for 48–72 h) at the vegetative stage. The cellular-level physiological response was observed by assessing the morphophysiological parameters and significant differences were observed in the rice varieties of the Gujarat region of the Indian continent. Additionally, we have performed a comparative transcriptome analysis of the shoots and roots of rice varieties at the vegetative stage (Dandi, salinity-tolerant; and GR-11, Salinity-sensitive) in response to salinity. Based on transcriptome analysis, the genes specifically activated and differentially over-expressed during salinity stress belong to different functional categories mostly located on chromosomes 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, and 11 in both cultivars. A total of 617 and 676 significant DEGs with log2-fold change in the range of ≥ + 2.0 to ≤ − 2.0 were identified from the comparative analysis of the two data sets DS (Dandi Shoot) and GS (GR-11Shoot) (Dandi vs. Control, GR-11 vs. Control) in the shoot sample. Similarly, a total of 510 and 508 significant DEGs DR (Dandi Root) and GR (GR-11 Root) (Dandi vs. Control, GR-11 vs. Control) in the root samples. The DEGs were examined against the KEGG database to explore the biological pathways of Dandi (226) and GR-11 (397) in the shoot as well as root (218,285) samples. Further PageMan analysis showed that there was a significantly higher number of DEGs (p < 0.05, ≥ ± 2.0-fold) involved in signalling pathways including secondary metabolism, hormone metabolism, abiotic stresses, and development which have significant regulatory functions in shoot and root of Dandi and GR-11 variety of rice. Peculiarities of growth and development of shoots of Rhus typhina L. in the conditions of the Right-bank forest-steppe of Ukraine are characterized. The morphological description of inflorescences and flowers of the species is carried out. The description took into account the stages of formation of the vegetative component of the inflorescence, the most significant features of its structure, the number of flowers in the inflorescence, and flowering dates. Pistillate and staminate flowers are collected in complex, botric, botanical, bractose, pyramidal inflorescences - panicles. The studied plants are characterized by acropetal type of inflorescence flowering. Abundance and level of flowering are estimated. In the research conditions generative individuals of R. typhina bloom annually. We estimated the abundance of R. typhina flowering in 4 points that corresponds to a high level.

The response of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) plants to the soil drought at the metabolome level is still not fully explained. In addition, research focuses mainly on single periods of drought, and there is still a lack of data on the response of plants to short-term cyclical periods of drought. The key to this research was to find out whether wheat shoots are able to resume metabolism after the stress subsides and if the reaction to subsequent stress is the same. Gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) is one of the most valuable and fast methods to discover changes in the primary metabolism of plants. The targeted GC-MS analyses of whole shoots of wheat plants exposed (at the juvenile stage of development) to short-term (five days) mild soil drought/rewatering cycles (until the start of shoot wilting) enabled us to identify 32 polar metabolites. The obtained results revealed an accumulation of sugars (sucrose, fructose, glucose, and 1-kestose), proline, and malic acid. During five days of recovery, shoots regained full turgor and continued to grow, and the levels of accumulated metabolites decreased. Similar changes in metabolic profiles were found during the second drought/rewatering cycle. However, the concentrations of glucose, proline, and malic acid were higher after the second drought than after the first one. Additionally, the concentration of total polar metabolites after each plant rewatering was elevated compared to control samples. Although our results confirm the participation of proline in wheat responses to drought, they also highlight the responsiveness of soluble carbohydrate metabolism to stress/recovery. High voltage electrical discharge (HVED) is an eco-friendly low-cost method based on the creation of plasma-activated water (PAW) through the release of electrical discharge in water which results in the formation of reactive particles. Recent studies have reported that such novel plasma technologies promote germination and growth but their hormonal and metabolic background is still not known. In the present work, the HVED-induced hormonal and metabolic changes were studied during the germination of wheat seedlings. Hormonal changes including abscisic acid (ABA), gibberellic acids (GAs), indol acetic acid (IAA) and jasmonic acid (JA) and the polyphenol responses were detected in the early (2nd day) and late (5th day) germination phases of wheat as well as their redistribution in shoot and root. HVED treatment significantly stimulated germination and growth both in the shoot and root. The root early response to HVED involved the upregulation of ABA and increased phaseic and ferulic acid content, while the active form of gibberellic acid (GA1) was downregulated. In the later phase (5th day of germination), HVED had a stimulatory effect on the production of benzoic and salicylic acid. The shoot showed a different response: HVED induced the synthesis of JA_Le_Ile, an active form of JA, and provoked the biosynthesis of cinnamic, p-coumaric and caffeic acid in both phases of germination. Surprisingly, in 2-day-old shoots, HVED decreased the GA20 levels, being intermediate in the synthesis of bioactive gibberellins. Vine vigor or vegetative growth is an important factor related to berry quality and vinicultural training management, but brassinosteroid (BR)-induced molecular mechanisms underlying vine growth remain unclear. In this study, the hypothesis that the Vitis vinifera CYP90D1 gene VvCYP90D1 , one of the genes for BR biosynthesis, plays a critical role in shoot elongation was tested. RNA sequencing analysis of shoots collected from the vigorous cultivar Koshu (KO) and the reference cultivar Pinot Noir (PN) 7 days after bud break showed higher expression levels of various genes in the BR biosynthesis pathway in KO than in PN. The VvCYP90D1 expression level in KO was highest in meristems, followed by internodes and leaves. Cluster analysis of amino acid sequences including those in other plant species showed that the isolated gene belonged to the CYP90D1 group. The vegetative growth and the endogenous BR (brassinolide; BL) content were significantly higher in VvCYP90D1-overexpressing Arabidopsis than in wild type. VvCYP90D1-overexpressing Arabidopsis treated with brassinazole (Brz), a BR biosynthesis inhibitor, showed recovery of vegetative growth. These results indicate that VvCYP90D1 in grapevine has a vegetative growth promoting effect via BR biosynthesis. Water stress is one of the most important factors limiting sustainable crop production. Therefore, the effects of the plant growth regulators (PGRs) fulvic acid (FA), brassinolide (BR), and uniconazole (Uni) on seedling growth and physiology of two maize (Zea mays L.) varieties were evaluated under − 0.7 MPa water stress induced by polyethylene glycol-6000. Under drought stress, the PGRs promoted seedling growth, altered the root-to-shoot ratio, and significantly increased root biomass, length, surface area, diameter, and volume. In addition, depending on the PGR, net photosynthesis rate, SPAD value (indicating chlorophyll content), and water use efficiency increased significantly, under drought stress, whereas transpiration rate decreased. The PGRs also significantly increased antioxidant enzyme activities and significantly decreased malondialdehyde accumulation in leaves and roots under drought stress. Zhengdan958 showed greater variation in physiological responses and stronger drought resistance than Xundan20. In alleviating drought stress in maize seedlings, FA had the greatest effects on shoot growth and leaf physiology; Uni exerted its effects by regulating root structure, and BR effects were intermediate. Under drought stress, the three PGRs increased maize seedling growth, which reduced drought stress-induced damage and improved plant ability to resist the adversity. As population growth accelerates, agriculture’s significance in our lives remains paramount. However, this surge in population has led to land degradation and increased food scarcity. The impact of silicon (Si) on plants has garnered significant attention in agricultural research. This study was aimed at examining the impact of Si on barley (Hordeum vulgare) plants by administering varying concentrations (5µM, 10µM, 20µM, 50µM, 100µM, 200µM, 500µM, 1000µM) and assessing their effects on plant growth parameters, particularly root and shoot lengths, and root fresh weight. Our study employed a controlled experimental setup to observe how barley plants respond to varying concentrations of Si. The data indicates that Si concentrations up to 10µM offer advantageous effects on barley compared to the control group, suggesting its potential in bolstering agricultural productivity. Similarly, concentrations of 20µM, 50µM, and 100µM were identified as safe for plant growth, opening avenues for their agricultural utilization. However, concentrations of 500µM and 1000µM resulted in complete inhibition of plant growth, emphasizing the necessity for cautious Si application in agriculture to prevent adverse impacts on crop yields. These findings underscore the importance of fine-tuning Si concentrations in agricultural practices to optimize benefits while mitigating potential risks to plants.

Biochar, a byproduct of biomass pyrolysis, has gained interest for its wideranging uses in agriculture and environmental remediation. Nano-biochar, in particular, holds promise for enhancing crop productivity and addressing environmental challenges faced by the plants. Its ability to improve soil properties and biological functions underscores its potential in sustainable agriculture. This study investigates the influence of a carbon-based nanobiocharcarbon nitride (C3N4, derived from melamine) on rice (Oryza sativa) growth. Despite the promise of nanostructured biochar materials in bolstering crop yields, their interaction with varying concentrations of C3N4 remains poorly understood. In this study, we studied the impact of five concentrations (0µM, 500µM, 1000µM, 1500µM, and 2000µM) of C3N4 on rice growth. Our results reveal a concentration-dependent response, with 1500µM and 2000µM concentrations exhibiting toxic effects on rice plants, while 500µM and 1000µM concentrations demonstrate positive effects on rice growth parameters (root-shoot length, fresh-dry biomass) with maximum values obtained in case of the latter. This research sheds light on the potential of C3N4 nanobiochars to influence the growth of crop plants, emphasizing the importance of optimizing concentrations for sustainable agricultural practices. Further exploration in this area could lead to finding of solutions for enhancing agricultural productivity in a sustainable manner.
