Skin, the largest organ of the human body, accounts for protecting against external injuries and pathogens. Despite possessing inherent self-regeneration capabilities, the repair of skin lesions is a complex and time-consuming process yet vital to preserving its critical physiological functions. The dominant treatment involves the application of a dressing to protect the wound, mitigate the risk of infection, and decrease the likelihood of secondary injuries. Pursuing solutions for accelerating wound healing has resulted in groundbreaking advancements in materials science, from hydrogels and hydrocolloids to foams and micro-/nanofibers. Noting the convenience and flexibility in design, nanofibers merit a high surface-area-to-volume ratio, controlled release of therapeutics, mimicking of the extracellular matrix, and excellent mechanical properties. Core-shell nanofibers bring even further prospects to the realm of wound dressings upon separate compartments with independent functionality, adapted release profiles of bioactive agents, and better moisture management. In this review, we highlight core-shell nanofibers for wound dressing applications featuring a survey on common materials and synthesis methods. Our discussion embodies the wound healing process, optimal wound dressing characteristics, the current organic and inorganic material repertoire for multifunctional core-shell nanofibers, and common techniques to fabricate proper coaxial structures. We also provide an overview of antibacterial nanomaterials with an emphasis on their crystalline structures, properties, and functions. We conclude with an outlook for the potential offered by core-shell nanofibers toward a more advanced design for effective wound healing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nanoenhanced oil recovery has emerged as a promising method for improving and enhancing oil recovery. However, nanoparticles face the challenge of clumping together under reservoir conditions, hindering their movement through the porous medium and interaction with the oil/water interface. To fully understand the impact of different nanoparticles and electromagnetic fields on phase transitions and oil recovery, it is crucial to consider the complex interactions involved. These interactions can be influenced by factors such as nanoparticle concentration, size distribution, surface chemistry, and base fluid properties. In this study, a core-flooding experiment was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of synthesized nanoparticles (BaTiO3, MnO2, CoO, BaTiO3/MnO2, and BaTiO3/CoO) for enhanced oil recovery using electromagnetic-assisted nanofluids. The synthesized nanoparticles were analyzed for morphology and elemental composition using FE-SEM with EDX. FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of functional groups and mineral composition. XRD analysis examined the crystal structure of the materials, while XPS, capacitance, and resistance measurements determined the elemental composition, chemical state, and electronic state of the materials. These analyses aimed to investigate the influence of an electromagnet on fluid mobility. Electromagnetic fields improve the dispersion and stability of nanoparticles in the reservoir, preventing aggregation and maintaining the effectiveness of nanofluids. Enhance the viscosity and mobility of the injected fluids, leading to better sweep efficiency and displacement of oil. The core-flooding experiment allowed us to determine the recovery factor. The results demonstrated that BaTiO3/MnO2 nanofluids exhibited the highest recovery factor, reaching approximately 58%, compared to BaTiO3/CoO nanofluids, which achieved a recovery factor of 48%. AbstractIn recent years, the study of terrorism and violent extremism has increasingly benefited from the use of register data such as population data and judicial data. The use of this type of data brings with it many advantages, such as the ability to study complete populations, to combine different sources of data, and, often, it enables researchers to take on a longitudinal and comparative approach. However, the use of register data also brings with it some significant challenges, in terms of acquiring the data (practical challenges) and in terms of biases in the data (content/ethical challenges). In this paper we discuss the usage of register data in terrorism research, with a focus on the Dutch and Swedish context. Whereas both countries are to some extent similar in that they both have a rich data-infrastructure, differences also exist regarding the type of data, agencies responsible for collecting and distributing the data, and ethical approaches. In the chapter, we will go into the strengths and weaknesses of using register data in research on terrorism and violent extremism. Moreover, we will elaborate on how the use of register data can be improved, what type of research questions can and cannot be answered based on register data, and on potential opportunities of integrating register data into mixed-methods designs. The jungle cat (Felis chaus) is a member of the genus Felis within the family Felidae, native to south‐east Asia, west Asia and north Africa. A 2‐year‐old male jungle cat was referred with a history of lameness of 3 days duration. At the time of presentation, the animal had non‐weight‐bearing lameness of the right hindlimb. Examination identified crepitation and instability in the distal diaphyseal region of the right tibial bone. Radiographs confirmed the presence of fractures in the distal diaphyseal region of the right tibia and fibula. Double plating of the tibia was employed for used fixation. The animal was evaluated 2, 4 and 8 weeks post‐operatively, and the procedure was considered to have been successful with no observed surgical complications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigates 30 lone actors in Sweden with a register-based design using a group of male lone actors and two reference groups: same-sex siblings and other male violent extremists. We compare lone actors to the reference groups along social background, criminal background, and co-offending relations (1995 –2016), and mental health (1980–2016). Our results show that lone actors are primarily born in Sweden to two Swedish-born parents. They have a high degree of criminality and co-offending, indicating that they are not completely loners in their criminal behaviour. They have higher enrolment in secondary education than the reference groups, but lower enrolment in higher education than other male violent extremists. Additionally, they suffer considerably more from mental disorders compared to the reference groups. An analysis of criminality and in- and outpatient hospitalisation over the life course indicates that lone actors may have had problems in their transition into middle age. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Determining the adsorption of shale gas on complex surfaces remains a challenge in molecular simulation studies. Difficulties essentially stem from the need to create a realistic shale structure model in terms of mineral heterogeneity and multiplicity. Moreover, precise characterization of the competitive adsorption of hydrogen and methane in shale generally requires the experimental determination of the related adsorptive capacity. In this study, the adsorption of adsorbates, methane (CH4), and hydrogen (H2) on heterogeneous shale surface models of Kaolinite, Orthoclase, Muscovite, Mica, C60, and Butane has been simulated in the frame of a molecular dynamic’s numerical technique. The results show that these behaviors are influenced by pressure and potential energy. On increasing the pressure from 500 to 2000 psi, the sorption effect for CH4 significantly increases but shows a decline at a certain stage (if compared to H2). The research findings also indicate that raw shale has a higher capacity to adsorb CH4 compared to hydrogen. However, in shale, this difference is negligible. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The Greek or Mediterranean tortoise (Testudo graeca), commonly known as the spur‐thighed tortoise, is a species of tortoise in the family Testudinidae that is found in North Africa, Western Asia and Europe. Several species of this genus are under threat in the wild, mainly from habitat destruction therefore, accurate information about the sexual cycle and the exact time of follicular development can be effective in successful reproduction planning and preventing species extinction. Objective: The experimental part of this study is focused on the evaluation of the reproductive apparatus of tortoises and development of follicles in ovaries during 1 year by ultrasonography and computed tomography. Methods: Ultrasonography and CT scanning was carried out on 10 female 'T. Graeca' tortoises which were maintained at Tehran Eram Zoo from November 2021 to November 2022 (1 year). Ultrasonography and CT exams were performed on all animals. Results: In the first study, on 28 November 2021, the ovarian cycle was characterized by the presence of previtellogenic follicles and atretic follicles. The numbers of follicles were best demonstrated on CT examination. Ultrasonography and CT scan in the second study showed no change in type of follicles from previous study. In the third study, atretic follicles were more than previtellogenic follicles, whereas in the fourth one, the numbers of previtellogenic follicles were more than atretic follicles. In following, at 6 and 29 June 2022, the absence of atretic follicles and just presence of previtellogenic follicles were observed. On 20 July 2022, the presence of a few number of atretic follicles and more previtellogenic follicles were noticed. On 30 July 2022, the absence of atretic follicles and presence of previtellogenic follicles and, for the first time, preovulatory follicles were obvious. In four following studies the absence of atretic follicles and the presence of previtellogenic follicles were diagnosed. In the last study, the absence of atretic follicles and the presence of preovulatory and previtellogenic follicles were observed. Conclusion: In current study, the reproductive cycle of female T. Graeca is evaluated during 1 year in captivity with ultrasonography and CT scan. It can be concluded that in captivity, the reproductive cycle does not result in the formation of eggs or calcareous shells and atretic follicles in the study year continued as before; so this should be highly considered in captivity breeding programmes. This study also revealed that among imaging modalities, CT scan is the best modality for detecting the shape, size, type and numbers of the follicles for further evaluation of location and shape of the follicles.
