The article aims to consider the possibility of a philological approach to hate vocabulary. Starting from the Victor Klemperer’s critical reception – the known author of a “philological notebook” (1996, 2000a, 2000b) regarding the forms of verbal violence during the Nazi regime – the study examines a model of the “everyday life philology” (Porter J. 2018) and its specific conditions of analysis of temporality in relation to insults and their social destiny. Our main hypothesis, based on Judith Butler (2004) work, is that “hate”, seen from the perspective of historicity and verbal transformations, is not only an inventory of toxic words, but also a resource for subjectivation processes. The article analyzes, as a representative case, the historical uses of a hate word in the Romanian culture between the two Revolutions of 1848 and 1989. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article proposes an affirmative theoretical framework for teaching students about social media, algorithms, and critical data studies and offers a concrete example of an assignment that can be used to help students better understand how social media sites impact our processes of subjectivation, or how we are created as subjects. This pedagogical approach is situated within larger conversations about how to best approach media literacy, digital literacy, and other emerging 21st century literacies. Drawing upon a pedagogical action research methodology, this article analyzes student projects and reflections to determine how one can actively participate in one’s own processes of subjectivation as they relate to social media, as well as what factors facilitate or limit this ability. I argue that a deeper understanding of how platforms and algorithms function increases one’s ability to intervene in their own processes of subjectivation. Further, I analyze student projects to demonstrate how the assignment helped students better conceptualize the ways that their data were being captured and then used by Facebook. This analysis showed that the inherent for-profit nature of the Facebook platform limits the possibility of intervention ability by design. These results suggest that new approaches to social media platforms, such as those that are non-profit or for the public good, might open further opportunities for more creative interventions. These experimentations at both the level of the user and the platform align well with an affirmative critical theory approach of experimentation and counter-actualization.

This article focuses on the refusal of social benefits in Germany from the perspectives of people who practice it. Through the presentation of three case studies, forms of subjectivation are reconstructed which offer insights into societal origins of refusal as an everyday mode of action and point towards further thematic and empirical research areas.

In this dossier, we gather theoretical and empirical studies on neoliberal rationality and current processes of subjectivation. To introduce it, we initially discuss the rise of the term “neoliberalism” and highlight the predominant forms of its critical analysis (economicist, neomarxist and bourdieusian approaches and the studies of governmentality). Then, mainly through studies of governmentality, we present the intellectual origin of neoliberalism and its historical concretization, to show how it became a rationality that establishes specific processes of subjectivation. In this sense, we underline the thesis that competition and performance, typical of contemporary subjectivation based on the enterprise model, constitute a global norm in different spheres, from states to subjectivities. Finally, we present the contributions of Brazilian and foreign researchers selected for the dossier.

This essay analyzes the crisis of the dominant imaginaries in the current context of the Covid-19 pandemic. Initially, the essay presents competition as a fundamental principle of neoliberal imaginary and contemporary processes of subjectivation to discuss the crisis of this imaginary caused worldwide by the new coronavirus. Then, the text problematizes the return to the imaginary of sovereignty, nationalist and authoritarian, as a reaction to the crisis. In conclusion, the essay defends the urgency of common and vital solidarity among individuals at the institutional, national and international levels as a way to overcome the global crisis.

This study is inserted in the field of workers' health in interface with contemporary public safety. Our main axis of analysis revolved around the ways in which retired military police officers now perceive the production of health and illness within their working trajectories in the Military Police. The research was guided by the qualitative bias, we interviewed 5 police officers retired by length of service, who held different positions during their work trajectories. In the interviews, the subjects had space to report on their various daily experiences in the Military Police. As a theoretical support, the work took as reference Michel Foucault's conceptual productions about discursive practices, discipline and power, mainly. The interviews showed that the trajectories of the police officers were marked by the fact that workers recognize themselves as subjects of a work experience in which health equals the absence of the disease. Violence in daily work was perceived only when taking physical contours. Thus, we understand the importance of this study with regard to the field of prevention and health promotion of workers in relation to public police officers that involve the most diverse actors that make up the Brazilian Public Security. This article aims to show part of the results of an investigation dedicated to follow the course of the experience of the trans collective in Argentina from the recovery of democracy after the last civil-military dictatorship (1983). For this purpose, we work on the basis of testimonies and documents prepared by the community itself to study the processes of subjectivation given, together with the deviations that occur in them, to finally find the political strategies hatched within the collective. In this way, we intend to follow the trail of trans people from the signs that they decided to leave in tune with the struggles traced by them. Particularly, here we will deal with two processes established in a large part of the trans-life experiences: the expulsion of these bodies from the anatomopolitical devices and the biopolitical regulations, on the one hand, and the modes of subjectivation in the brothel and carnivalesque sphere on the other. Both paths will be thematized in two instances: the first one collects the data and testimonies, the second one deals with the critical-philosophical problematization of such data and testimonies. The analysis in this second path is sustained revisiting the formulations made by Michel Foucault around the sexuality device, the biopolitics and the forms of resistance and gathering in some of the fundamental contributions of the postfeminist theories (queer) together with Judith Butler and Paul B. The subject of our paper is the architectures of care from an ethnographic approach and psychosocial intervention in a building for retirees and pensioners in the Cordon neighborhood of Montevideo, Uruguay. This experience is part of a wider investigation device, about the subjectivation process and mediations in relation of his historic second enlargement. In first place, we characterized the phenomenon in the context of capitalistic city. In second term, we dive into the histories of dwell of the residents, mostly woman. Then, we focalized in the emergent conditions to the live in the housing complex, for advanced on a micro-politics of everyday care. For last, we realized considerations on urban scale about the centrality and the redefinition to the territorialities involved on the zone. Este artigo discute como o jogo eletrônico Tomb Raiderconstrói processos de subjetivação em relação a gênero e sexualidade. Para desenvolver essa discussão, duas questões foram centrais: quem esse jogo imagina que 'você' seja? Quem esse jogo propõe que 'você' seja? Ambas foram construídas com base em teorizações foucaultianas sobre os processos de subjetivação, conjuntamente com a noção de "modo de endereçamento" desenvolvido por Elizabeth Ellsworth e algumas discussões sobre gênero e sexualidade. Pautando-se nisso, buscou-se mostrar como marcas de gênero e sexualidade, culturalmente construídas, são empregadas nas elaborações da personagem central do jogo: Lara Croft. Contudo, conclui-se que tais marcas não configuram escolhas entre possíveis, mas são criações e invenções, tanto por parte dos elaboradores quanto pelos jogadores.This article discusses how the electronic game Tomb Raider constructs processes of subjectivation in relation to gender and sexuality. To develop this argument, two main questions were taken: Who does this game imagine 'you' are? Who does this game suggest 'you' to be? Both were built based on the Foucaultian Theory about processes of subjectivation, together with the concept of 'mode of address', developed by Elizabeth Ellsworth and some discussions about gender and sexuality. Based on this, this investigation wants to show how culturally built marks of gender and sexuality are used on elaborations of the main character of the game: Lara Croft. However, in conclusion, those marks cannot set the possible choices up, but are creations and inventions made by the game designers and the players.

This paper is an invitation for think the recent and next decades in the space of humanities and social sciences, and philosophy more involved in this, from the Foucault's work, to the thirty years for your decease. My interest is the deepening at the same time in two complementary directions: the philosophical task in dialog with contemporary ethnographic work. From this attitude I considered the main keys of your thinking. For this, first, I propose the type of approach considered like opportune. In second term, I expose a synthesis the gnoseological approach of analysis of processes of subjectivation, for to arrive in third term to final considerations about the study of problematization ways, like "ontology of the present or ourselves". Much contemporary images of black women in Italian media are marked by the legacy of colonialist propaganda and tend to perpetuate a representation of black women as passive eroticized objects of the white male gaze. In this sense, Ponzanesi's call for 'new and less biased representations, which could help to assess the multiple subject positions that black identities now occupy' is still relevant. This article responds to this call by analysing two Nigerian video films that thematize migration and prostitution trafficking in Italy. By highlighting the complexity of the processes of 'subjectivation' taking place throughout the migratory process, these videos invite their viewers to look at the postcolonial subject's responsibility in shaping the world in which she lives, and offer a representation of the black female subject that is able to go beyond the voyeuristic attitude that characterizes much of the existing contemporary Italian visual culture surrounding this topic. This article discusses some keys to understand the intrinsic relationship that can exist between health and communication from the perspective of family and community medicine. Epistemologically it is considered necessary to reflect on this connection, given that generally both concepts are understood externally, which implies an instrumentalization of the communication and a simplification of the service provided by health workers. From the experience of creation and growth of this type of medicine in the context of Uruguay, the close presence, often little obvious though, of the generalist medical practice is set out in the social history of the populations. Considering the main activity in the first-level of healthcare, communication is valued as an experience of encounters between subjectivities, and their dialogic management becomes crucial to conceptualize in different way the same notion of health. Health communication is approached, therefore, as an additional element of health, while health shows its communicational aspect from the point of view of cultural dynamics and processes of subjectivation.
