Abstract: The sub-Jovian desert is a region in the mass-period and radius-period parameter space, typically encompassing short-period ranges between super-Earths and hot Jupiters, that exhibits an intrinsic dearth of planets. This scarcity is likely shaped by photoevaporation caused by the stellar irradiation received by giant planets that have migrated inward. We report the detection and characterization of TOI-3568 b, a transiting super-Neptune with a mass of $26.4\pm1.0$ M$_\oplus$, a radius of $5.30\pm0.27$ R$_\oplus$, a bulk density of $0.98\pm0.15$ g cm$^{-3}$, and an orbital period of 4.417965(5) d situated in the vicinity of the sub-Jovian desert. This planet orbiting a K dwarf star with solar metallicity, was identified photometrically by TESS. It was characterized as a planet by our high-precision radial velocity monitoring program using MAROON-X at Gemini North, supplemented by additional observations from the SPICE large program with SPIRou at CFHT. We performed a Bayesian MCMC joint analysis of the TESS and ground-based photometry, MAROON-X and SPIRou radial velocities, to measure the orbit, radius, and mass of the planet, as well as a detailed analysis of the high-resolution flux and polarimetric spectra to determine the physical parameters and elemental abundances of the host star. Our results reveal TOI-3568 b as a hot super-Neptune, rich in hydrogen and helium with a core of heavier elements with a mass between 10 and 25 M$_\oplus$. We analyzed the photoevaporation status of TOI-3568 b and found that it experiences one of the highest EUV luminosities among planets with a mass M$_{\rm p}$ $<2$ M$_{\rm Nep}$, yet it has an evaporation lifetime exceeding 5 Gyr. Positioned in the transition between two significant populations of exoplanets on the mass-period and energy diagrams, this planet presents an opportunity to test theories concerning the origin of the sub-Jovian desert., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A on September 4, 2024

Abstract: Compact star-forming galaxies were dominant galaxy types in the early Universe. Blueberry galaxies (BBs) represent their local analogues being very compact and having intensive star formation. Motivated by high X-ray emission recently found in other analogical dwarf galaxies, called Green Peas, we probe into the X-ray properties of BBs to determine if their X-ray emission is consistent with the empirical laws for star-forming galaxies. We performed the first X-ray observations of a small sample of BBs with the XMM-Newton satellite. Spectral analysis for detected sources and upper limits measured via Bayesian-based analysis for very low-count measurements were used to determine the X-ray properties of our galaxy sample. Clear detection was obtained only for 2 sources, with one source exhibiting an enhanced X-ray luminosity to the scaling relations. For the remaining 5 sources, only an upper limit was constrained, suggesting BBs to be rather underluminous as a whole. Our analysis shows that the large scatter cannot be easily explained by the stochasticity effects. While the bright source is above and inconsistent at almost the 99% confidence level, the upper limits of the two sources are below the expected distribution. These results indicate that the empirical relations between the star formation rate, metallicity, and X-ray luminosity might not hold for BBs with uniquely high specific star formation rates. One possible explanation could be that the BBs may not be old enough to have a significant X-ray binary population. Abstract: We report on the second observing program of the active galactic nucleus NGC 4151 with simultaneous Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE; {\sim}750 ks), NuSTAR ({\sim}60 ks), XMM-Newton ({\sim}75 ks), and NICER ({\sim}65 ks) pointings. NGC 4151 is the first Type 1 radio-quiet Seyfert galaxy with constrained polarization properties for the X-ray corona. Despite the lower flux state in which the source is re-observed and the resulting higher contribution of the constant reflection component in the IXPE energy band, our results are in agreement with the first detection. From polarimetric analysis, a polarization degree {\Pi} = 4.7 {\pm} 1.3 percent and angle {\Psi} = 77{\deg} {\pm} 8{\deg} east of north (68 percent confidence level) are derived in the 2.0 - 8.0 keV energy range. Combining the two observations leads to polarization properties that are more constrained than those of the individual detections, showing {\Pi} = 4.5 {\pm} 0.9 percent and {\Psi} = 81{\deg} {\pm} 6{\deg} (with detection significance {\sim}4.6{\sigma}). The observed polarization angle aligns very well with the radio emission in this source, supporting, together with the significant polarization degree, a slab or wedge geometry for the X-ray corona. However, a switch in the polarization angle at low energies (37{\deg} {\pm} 7{\deg} in the 2 - 3.5 keV bin) suggests the presence of another component. When it is included in the spectro-polarimetric fit, a high polarization degree disfavors an interpretation in terms of a leakage through the absorbers, rather pointing to scattering from some kind of mirror., Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures, 3 tables. Abstract: We present new VLTI/GRAVITY near-infrared interferometric measurements of the angular size of the innermost hot dust continuum for 14 type 1 AGNs. The angular sizes are resolved on scales of ~0.7 mas and the inferred ring radii range from 0.028 to 1.33 pc, comparable to those reported previously and a factor 10-20 smaller than the mid-infrared sizes in the literature. Combining our new data with previously published values, we compile a sample of 25 AGN with bolometric luminosity ranging from $10^{42}$ to $10^{47} \rm erg~s^{-1}$, with which we study the radius-luminosity (R-L) relation for the hot dust structure. Our interferometric measurements of radius are offset by a factor 2 from the equivalent relation derived through reverberation mapping. Using a simple model to explore the dust structure's geometry, we conclude that this offset can be explained if the 2 um emitting surface has a concave shape. Our data show that the slope of the relation is in line with the canonical $R \propto L^{0.5}$ when using an appropriately non-linear correction for bolometric luminosity. In contrast, using optical luminosity or applying a constant bolometric correction to it results in a significant deviation in the slope, suggesting a potential luminosity dependence on the spectral energy distribution. Over four orders of magnitude in luminosity, the intrinsic scatter around the R-L relation is 0.2 dex, suggesting a tight correlation between innermost hot dust structure size and the AGN luminosity., Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures, 4 tables, accepted for publication in A&A

Abstract: Active galactic nuclei (AGN) are extremely variable in the X-ray band down to very short timescales. However, the driver behind the X-ray variability is still poorly understood. Previous results suggest that the hot corona responsible for the primary Comptonized emission observed in AGN is expected to play an important role in driving the X-ray variability. In this work, we investigate the connection between the X-ray amplitude variability and the coronal physical parameters; namely, the temperature ($kT$) and optical depth ($\tau$). We present the spectral and timing analysis of 46 {\it NuSTAR} observations corresponding to a sample of 20 AGN. For each source, we derived the coronal temperature and optical depth through X-ray spectroscopy and computed the normalized excess variance for different energy bands on a timescale of $10$ ks. We find a strong inverse correlation between $kT$ and $\tau$, with correlation coefficient of $r<-0.9$ and negligible null probability. No clear dependence was found among the temperature and physical properties, such as the black hole mass or the Eddington ratio. We also see that the observed X-ray variability is not correlated with either the coronal temperature or optical depth under the thermal equilibrium assumption, whereas it is anticorrelated with the black hole mass. These results can be interpreted through a scenario where the observed X-ray variability could primarily be driven by variations in the coronal physical properties on a timescale of less than $10$~ks; whereas we assume thermal equilibrium on such timescales in this work, given the capability of the currently available hard X-ray telescopes. Abstract: Recent observations of X-ray pulsars (XRPs) performed by the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) have made it possible to investigate the intricate details of these objects in a new way, thanks to the added value of X-ray polarimetry. Here we present the results of the IXPE observations of SMC X-1, a member of the small group of XRPs displaying super-orbital variability. SMC X-1 was observed by IXPE three separate times during the high state of its super-orbital period. The observed luminosity in the 2-8 keV energy band of $L=2\times10^{38}$ erg/s makes SMC X-1 the brightest XRP ever observed by IXPE. We detect significant polarization in all three observations, with values of the phase-averaged polarization degree (PD) and polarization angle (PA) of $3.2\pm0.8$% and $97\deg\pm8\deg$ for Observation 1, $3.0\pm0.9$% and $90\deg\pm8\deg$ for Observation 2, and $5.5\pm1.1$% and $80\deg\pm6\deg$ for Observation 3, for the spectro-polarimetric analysis. The observed PD shows an increase over time with decreasing luminosity, while the PA decreases in decrements of 10\deg. The phase-resolved spectro-polarimetric analysis reveals significant detection of polarization in three out of seven phase bins, with the PD ranging between 2% and 10%, and a corresponding range in the PA from $\sim$70\deg\ to $\sim$100\deg. The pulse-phase resolved PD displays an apparent anti-correlation with the flux. Using the rotating vector model, we obtain constraints on the pulsar's geometrical properties for the individual observations. The position angle of the pulsar displays an evolution over time supporting the idea that we observe changes related to different super-orbital phases. Abstract: Discovery of pulsations from a number of ULXs proved that accretion onto neutron stars can produce luminosities exceeding the Eddington limit by several orders of magnitude. The conditions necessary to achieve such high luminosities as well as the exact geometry of the accretion flow in the neutron star vicinity are, however, a matter of debate. The pulse phase-resolved polarization measurements that became possible with the launch of the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) can be used to determine the pulsar geometry and its orientation relative to the orbital plane. They provide an avenue to test different theoretical models of ULX pulsars. In this paper we present the results of three IXPE observations of the first Galactic ULX pulsar Swift J0243.6+6124 during its 2023 outburst. We find strong variations in the polarization characteristics with the pulsar phase. The average polarization degree increases from about 5% to 15% as the flux dropped by a factor of three in the course of the outburst. The polarization angle (PA) as a function of the pulsar phase shows two peaks in the first two observations, but changes to a characteristic sawtooth pattern in the remaining data set. This is not consistent with a simple rotating vector model. Assuming the existence of an additional constant polarized component, we were able to fit the three observations with a common rotating vector model and obtain constraints on the pulsar geometry. In particular, we find the pulsar angular momentum inclination with respect to the line of sight of 15-40 deg, the magnetic obliquity of 60-80 deg, and the pulsar spin position angle of -50 deg, which significantly differs from the constant component PA of about 10 deg. Abstract: Observation of blue-shifted X-ray absorption lines indicates the presence of wind from the accretion disk in X-ray binaries. Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) driving is one of the possible wind launching mechanisms. Recent theoretical development makes magnetic accretion-ejection self-similar solutions much more generalized, and wind can be launched even at much lower magnetization compared to equipartition value, which was the only possibility beforehand. Here, we model the transmitted spectra through MHD driven photoionized wind - models which have different values of magnetizations. We investigate the possibility of detecting absorption lines by the upcoming instruments XRISM and Athena. Attempts are made to find the robustness of the method of fitting asymmetric line profiles by multiple Gaussians. We use photoionization code XSTAR to simulate the transmitted model spectra. Fake observed spectra are finally produced by convolving model spectra with instruments' responses. Since the line asymmetries are apparent in the convolved spectra as well, this can be used as an observable diagnostic to fit for, in future XRISM and Athena spectra. We demonstrate some amount of rigor in assessing the equivalent widths of the major absorption lines, including the Fe XXVI Ly$\alpha$ doublets which can be clearly distinguished in the superior quality, future high resolution spectra. Abstract: The detection of blue-shifted absorption lines likely associated with ionized Iron K-shell transitions in the X-ray spectra of many Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) suggests the presence of a highly ionized gas outflowing with mildly relativistic velocities (0.03c-0.6c), named Ultra-Fast Outflow (UFO). Within the SUBWAYS project we characterized these winds starting from a sample of 22 radio-quiet quasars at 0.1 < z < 0.4, and compared the results with similar studies in the literature on samples of 42 local radio-quiet Seyfert galaxies and 14 high redshift radio-quiet quasars. The scope of our work is a statistical study of UFO parameters and incidence, considering key physical properties of the sources, e.g. supermassive black hole (SMBH) mass, bolometric luminosity, accretion rates and Spectral Energy Distribution, with the aim of gaining new insights into the UFO launching mechanisms. We find indications that highly luminous AGN with steeper X-ray/UV ratio, are more likely to host UFO. The presence of UFO is not significantly related to any other AGN property in our sample. These findings suggest that the UFO phenomenon may be transient. Focusing on AGN with UFO, other important results are: (1) faster UFO have larger ionization parameters and column densities; (2) X-ray radiation plays a more crucial role in driving highly ionized winds compared to UV; (3) the correlation between outflow velocity and luminosity is significantly flatter than what expected for radiatively driven winds; (4) more massive BH experience higher wind mass-losses, suppressing accretion of matter onto the BH; (5) the UFO launching radius is positively correlated with the Eddington ratio. Furthermore, our analysis suggest the involvement of multiple launching mechanisms, including radiation pressure and magneto-hydrodynamic processes, rather than pointing to a single, universally applicable mechanism., Comment: 52 pages, 154 figures and 7 tables. Abstract: The present study investigates the devaluation of specialised teaching knowledge and the prioritisation of general education based on competencies and skills at the secondary level in Brazil. The dissolution of the curricular disciplinary organisation poses a risk to teaching identities, and understanding how teachers constitute epistemic and disciplinary communities is crucial. Public imposed policies that are distant from the reality of schools tend to be rejected by the agents involved in the school process. In Brazil, the "National Curriculum" Basis, a high school common core, is an example of a legal document that does not engage in dialogue with the cultural diversity in Brazil, while discredit the specific formation of teachers. From a historical approach, this research analyses the polysemy of school subjects towards the teacher's specialised identities. The methodological dispositive comprises narratives from specialist high school teachers in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. Understanding how professionals organise themselves provides insight into the mechanisms of control and mediation in producing curriculum as socio-historical artifacts from power relationships and disputes. The struggle for control highlights the importance of teachers' agency in confrontation with neoliberal ideals for education and organising in subject or epistemic communities.

Abstract: Abstract The CYGNO experiment aims to build a large ( $$\mathcal {O}(10)$$ O ( 10 ) m $$^3$$ 3 ) directional detector for rare event searches, such as nuclear recoils (NRs) induced by dark matter (DM), such as weakly interactive massive particles (WIMPs). The detector concept comprises a time projection chamber (TPC), filled with a He:CF $$_4$$ 4 60/40 scintillating gas mixture at room temperature and atmospheric pressure, equipped with an amplification stage made of a stack of three gas electron multipliers (GEMs) which are coupled to an optical readout. The latter consists in scientific CMOS (sCMOS) cameras and photomultipliers tubes (PMTs). The maximisation of the light yield of the amplification stage plays a major role in the determination of the energy threshold of the experiment. In this paper, we simulate the effect of the addition of a strong electric field below the last GEM plane on the GEM field structure and we experimentally test it by means of a 10 $$\times $$ × 10 cm $$^2$$ 2 readout area prototype. The experimental measurements analyse stacks of different GEMs and helium concentrations in the gas mixture combined with this extra electric field, studying their performances in terms of light yield, energy resolution and intrinsic diffusion. It is found that the use of this additional electric field permits large light yield increases without degrading intrinsic characteristics of the amplification stage with respect to the regular use of GEMs.

Abstract: Abstract Background Facioscapulohumeral dystrophy (FSHD) is a myopathy characterized by the loss of repressive epigenetic features affecting the D4Z4 locus (4q35). The assessment of DNA methylation at two regions (DUX4-PAS and DR1) of D4Z4 locus proved to be an effective method to detect epigenetic signatures compatible with FSHD. The present study aims at validating the employment of this method into clinical practice and improving the protocol by refining the classification thresholds of 4qA/4qA patients. To this purpose, 218 subjects with clinical suspicion of FSHD collected in 2022–2023 were analyzed. Each participant underwent in parallel the traditional FSHD molecular testing (D4Z4 sizing) and the proposed methylation assay. The results provided by both analyses were compared to evaluate the concordance and calculate the performance metrics of the methylation test. Results Among the 218 subjects, the 4q variant type distribution was 54% 4qA/4qA, 43% 4qA/4qB and 3% 4qB/4qB. The methylation analysis was performed only on carriers of at least one 4qA allele. After refining the classification threshold, the test reached the following performance metrics: sensitivity = 0.90, specificity = 1.00 and accuracy = 0.93. These results confirmed the effectiveness of the methylation assay in identifying patients with genetic signature compatible with FSHD1 and FSHD2 based on their DUX4-PAS and DR1 profile, respectively. The methylation data were also evaluated with respect to the clinical information. Conclusions The study confirmed the ability of the method to accurately identify methylation profiles compatible with FSHD genetic signatures considering the 4q genotype. Moreover, the test allows the detection of hypomethylated profiles in asymptomatic patients, suggesting its potential application in identifying preclinical conditions in patients with positive family history and FSHD genetic signatures. Furthermore, the present work emphasizes the importance of interpreting methylation profiles considering the patients’ clinical data.

Abstract: A model-independent study of CP violation in $B^0 \to DK^{*0}$ decays is presented using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9fb$^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}=7, \, 8$ and $13$TeV. The CKM angle $\gamma$ is determined by examining the distributions of signal decays in phase-space bins of the self-conjugate $D \to K_S^0 h^+ h^-$ decays, where $h = \pi, K$. Observables related to CP violation are measured and the angle $\gamma$ is determined to be $\gamma=(49^{+ 22}_{-19})^\circ$. Abstract: Correlations of same-sign charged particles are analysed using proton-lead collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.06 nb-1. Bose-Einstein correlations are observed in the form of an enhancement of pair production for same-sign charged pions with a small four-momentum difference squared. The dependence of the correlation radius and the intercept parameter on the reconstructed charged-particle multiplicity is investigated. 36. The jet emitting disk standard accretion disk model applied to the active galactic nuclei ultra violet Xray correlation

Abstract: The non linear correlation between the UV and X-ray emission observed in Active Galactic Nuclei remains a puzzling question that challenged accretion models. While the UV emission originates from the cold disk, the X-ray emission is emitted by a hot corona whose physical characteristics and geometry are still highly debated. The Jet Emitting Disk - Standard Accretion Disk (JED-SAD) is a spectral model stemming from self similar accretion-ejection solutions. It is composed of an inner highly magnetized and hot accretion flow launching jets, the JED, and an outer SAD. The model has been successfully applied to X-ray binaries outbursts. The AGN UV X-ray correlation represent another essential test for the JED-SAD model. We use multiple AGN samples to explore the parameter space and identify the regions able to reproduce the observations. Abstract: Abstract Emergent tremor in Parkinson’s disease (PD) can occur during sustained postures or movements that are different from action tremor. Tremor can contaminate the clinical rating of bradykinesia during finger tapping. Currently, there is no reliable way of isolating emergent tremor and measuring the cardinal motor symptoms based on voluntary movements only. In this study, we investigated whether emergent tremor during repetitive alternating finger tapping (RAFT) on a quantitative digitography (QDG) device could be reliably identified and distinguished from voluntary tapping. Ninety-six individuals with PD and forty-two healthy controls performed a thirty-second QDG-RAFT task and the Movement Disorders Society – Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale Part III (MDS-UPDRS III). Visual identification of tremor during QDG-RAFT was labeled by an experienced movement disorders specialist. Two methods of identifying tremor were investigated: 1) physiologically informed temporal thresholds 2) XGBoost model using temporal and amplitude features of tapping. The XGBoost model showed high accuracy for identifying tremor (area under the precision-recall curve of 0.981) and outperformed temporal-based thresholds. Abstract: Abstract Background Thoracotomy is one of the surgical procedures most burdened by chronic post-operative pain. There is poor evidence regarding the possibility that even in pediatric patients, thoracotomy can be followed by post-operative pain. The primary objective of this analysis is to identify associations with home pain therapy, pain intensity, and possible protective factors acting on chronic pain in this population. Methods A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted at Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù IRCCS. The study included pediatric patients undergoing thoracotomy. For statistical analyses, a logistic model and a zero-inflated strategy were implemented to explore associations and predict factors related to home-based analgesic therapy and pain intensity. Results Gender and age were identified as significant factors in the assignment of home therapy, with males having over seven times the risk compared to females (OR = 7.06, 95% CI = [2.11, 29.7]). At the last measurement, pain intensity was positively associated with age and the number of pain events during the week. Conclusions The study highlights significant factors influencing post-thoracotomy pain management in pediatric patients. These findings underscore the importance of tailored pain management strategies that consider gender and age to improve post-operative care and outcomes in pediatric thoracotomy patients.

Abstract: Abstract Background Tailoring effective strategies for cancer pain management requires a careful analysis of multiple factors that influence pain phenomena and, ultimately, guide the therapy. While there is a wealth of research on automatic pain assessment (APA), its integration with clinical data remains inadequately explored. This study aimed to address the potential correlations between subjective and APA-derived objectives variables in a cohort of cancer patients. Methods A multidimensional statistical approach was employed. Demographic, clinical, and pain-related variables were examined. Objective measures included electrodermal activity (EDA) and electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. Sensitivity analysis, multiple factorial analysis (MFA), hierarchical clustering on principal components (HCPC), and multivariable regression were used for data analysis. Results The study analyzed data from 64 cancer patients. MFA revealed correlations between pain intensity, type, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance status (ECOG), opioids, and metastases. Clustering identified three distinct patient groups based on pain characteristics, treatments, and ECOG. Multivariable regression analysis showed associations between pain intensity, ECOG, type of breakthrough cancer pain, and opioid dosages. The analyses failed to find a correlation between subjective and objective pain variables. Conclusions The reported pain perception is unrelated to the objective variables of APA. An in-depth investigation of APA is required to understand the variables to be studied, the operational modalities, and above all, strategies for appropriate integration with data obtained from self-reporting. Abstract: Abstract The Λ b 0 $$ {\Lambda}_b^0 $$ → D + D − Λ decay is observed for the first time using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.3 fb −1. Using the B 0 → D + D − K S 0 $$ {D}^{+}{D}^{-}{K}_S^0 $$ decay as a reference channel, the product of the relative production cross-section and decay branching fractions is measured to be R = σ Λ b 0 σ B 0 = B Λ b 0 → D + D − Λ B B 0 → D + D − K S 0 = 0.179 ± 0.022 ± 0.014 , $$ \mathcal{R}=\frac{\sigma_{\Lambda_b^0}}{\sigma_{B^0}}=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_b^0\to {D}^{+}{D}^{-}\Lambda \right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({B}^0\to {D}^{+}{D}^{-}{K}_{\textrm{S}}^0\right)}=0.179\pm 0.022\pm 0.014, $$ where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The known branching fraction of the reference channel, B B 0 → D + D − K S 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({B}^0\to {D}^{+}{D}^{-}{K}_{\textrm{S}}^0\right) $$ , and the cross-section ratio, σ Λ b 0 / σ B 0 $$ {\sigma}_{\Lambda_b^0}/{\sigma}_{B^0} $$ , previously measured by LHCb are used to derive the branching fraction of the Λ b 0 $$ {\Lambda}_b^0 $$ → D + D − Λ decay B Λ b 0 → D + D − Λ = 1.24 ± 0.15 ± 0.10 ± 0.28 ± 0.11 × 10 − 4 , $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_b^0\to {D}^{+}{D}^{-}\Lambda \right)=\left(1.24\pm 0.15\pm 0.10\pm 0.28\pm 0.11\right)\times {10}^{-4}, $$ where the third and fourth contributions are due to uncertainties of B B 0 → D + D − K S 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({B}^0\to {D}^{+}{D}^{-}{K}_{\textrm{S}}^0\right) $$ and σ Λ b 0 / σ B 0 $$ {\sigma}_{\Lambda_b^0}/{\sigma}_{B^0} $$ , respectively. Inspection of the D +Λ and D + D − invariant-mass distributions suggests a rich presence of intermediate resonances in the decay. The Λ b 0 $$ {\Lambda}_b^0 $$ → D *+ D − Λ decay is also observed for the first time as a partially reconstructed component in the D + D − Λ invariant mass spectrum.

Abstract: Abstract A search for the fully reconstructed B s 0 $$ {B}_s^0 $$ → μ + μ − γ decay is performed at the LHCb experiment using proton-proton collisions at s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb −1. No significant signal is found and upper limits on the branching fraction in intervals of the dimuon mass are set B B s 0 → μ + μ − γ < 4.2 × 10 − 8 , m μ + μ − ∈ 2 m μ 1.70 GeV / c 2 , B B s 0 → μ + μ − γ < 7.7 × 10 − 8 , m μ + μ − ∈ 1.70, 2.88 GeV / c 2 , B B s 0 → μ + μ − γ < 4.2 × 10 − 8 , m μ + μ − ∈ 3.92 m B s 0 GeV / c 2 , $$ {\displaystyle \begin{array}{cc}\mathcal{B}\left({B}_s^0\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\gamma \right)

Abstract: The main task of the Top Tracker detector of the neutrino reactor experiment Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is to reconstruct and extrapolate atmospheric muon tracks down to the central detector. This muon tracker will help to evaluate the contribution of the cosmogenic background to the signal. The Top Tracker is located above JUNO's water Cherenkov Detector and Central Detector, covering about 60% of the surface above them. The JUNO Top Tracker is constituted by the decommissioned OPERA experiment Target Tracker modules. The technology used consists in walls of two planes of plastic scintillator strips, one per transverse direction. Wavelength shifting fibres collect the light signal emitted by the scintillator strips and guide it to both ends where it is read by multianode photomultiplier tubes. Compared to the OPERA Target Tracker, the JUNO Top Tracker uses new electronics able to cope with the high rate produced by the high rock radioactivity compared to the one in Gran Sasso underground laboratory. 45. The nociceptive withdrawal reflex during spinal analgesia in pigs undergoing veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation: a prospective observational study

Abstract: IntroductionUse of veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) is still in the focus of research, in which pigs are commonly involved. During VA-ECMO, cardiovascular parameters are artificially manipulated and therefore not reliable indicators of nociception. Nociceptive withdrawal reflex (NWR) thresholds can be a suitable alternative in such a context. This study aimed at recording and comparing NWR thresholds before and after administering spinal analgesia in healthy pigs undergoing VA-ECMO.MethodsSixteen pigs were sedated with a mixture of ketamine, midazolam, and methadone; general anesthesia was induced with propofol and maintained with propofol and fentanyl in continuous rate infusion. Before surgery, ropivacaine 0.75% and morphine (RM) were injected via a spinal catheter (T13-L1). Nociceptive withdrawal reflex thresholds were recorded before RM (baseline) and at 40 min, end of surgery, 240, 300, 360, 420 and 480 min afterward. If after spinal analgesia NWR thresholds increased ≥20% from their baseline values, the increase was deemed clinically relevant. If NWR thresholds decreased at least 20% from their baseline values, ropivacaine alone was injected (rescue analgesia). Thresholds were compared with baseline using ANOVA on Ranks followed by Dunn’s method. At each time point, the number of pigs showing a clinically relevant increase in thresholds, thresholds higher than the maximum stimulation intensity and the need of rescue analgesia, was assessed. Nine animals were included in the final data analysis.ResultsA clinically relevant increase of the thresholds was achieved in all the pigs at 240 min after the injection of RM. A statistically significant increase in NWR thresholds was found at 300 and 360 min (p = 0.009 and 0.048, respectively) compared to baseline. Rescue analgesia was required at 300 (one pig) and 420 (two pigs) and 480 (one pig) minutes.Discussion and conclusionNociceptive withdrawal reflex thresholds increased significantly, both clinically and statistically following spinal injection. Their increase suggests that the combination of spinal morphine and ropivacaine can last on average up to 6 h. Particularly in those scenarios where cardiovascular variables are unreliable, NWR thresholds could be useful for evaluating antinociception following spinal analgesia in pigs.

Abstract: Introduction: The use of helicopter emergency medical services is useful for rescuing or transporting highly time-dependent disease patients, from urban remote areas or harsh environments in the hospital, providing advanced pre-hospital life support in an emergency setting. Study objective: This study aims to identify changes in mission characteristics, crew composition, and operational procedures within the helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) system of L’Aquila, Italy, to identify operational patterns, mission characteristics, crew composition and patient outcomes over time, with specific attention to changes implemented after the Monte Cefalone incident. Methods: Changes in the characteristics of the rescued patients, the helicopter missions, the crew members and the type of interventions were analysed. T-test or chi-square test were used to compare data before and after the incident. Results: Three thousand three hundred and ninety-two records were reviewed. Following the crash, a pilot was added to the crew. Two hundred and thirteen missions were classified as cancelled: 47 before and 166 after the crash. The cancellations due to the lack of horizontal visibility were: 4 out of 47 (8.5 %) and 24 out of 166 (14.5). Most of the rescued victims had trauma: 45 % before and 50 % after the crash. The helicopter flights were prevalent in harsh environments. After the accident, the percentage of missions in harsh environment decreased from 80 % to 64 %. 47. Optimizing treatment sequencing in multiple myeloma: a novel model to predict survival outcomes

Abstract: Objective Patients with multiple myeloma (MM) typically require multiple regimens and become harder to treat with each line of treatment. Furthermore, there is a lack of direct comparative clinical trial data to guide effective treatment sequencing. A novel model is described comparing alternative MM treatment sequences to optimize patient outcomes.Methods The model compares treatment sequences and outcomes for adults with newly diagnosed transplant-eligible (TE) or transplant-ineligible (TIE) MM across four treatment lines (first-line [FL] to fourth-line [4L]). Inputs are derived from patient-level data from clinical trials and indirect treatment comparisons. We report a base case prediction using data representing clinical practice in Italy.Results For FL TE, overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were greatest for FL regimens containing daratumumab; OS ranged from 11.80–18.10 years. PFS ranged from 4.82–13.42 years (FL) to 0.66–6.03 years (second-line [2L]), 0.81–1.76 years (third-line [3L]), and 0.69–0.72 years (4L). For FL TIE, OS rates were greater for treatment sequences with FL daratumumab vs. sequences with either 2L or no daratumumab (OS ranging from 5.95–10.61 years). PFS was greatest for FL daratumumab regimens in the TIE group, with PFS ranging from 2.12–7.48 years (FL), 0.53–4.73 years (2L), 0.63–1.17 years (3L), and 0.42 years (4L).Discussion This novel model demonstrates that using the most effective treatment in FL optimizes treatment sequencing and clinical outcomes for patients.Conclusion The optimal MM treatment sequences begin with daratumumab-containing regimens in FL and improve outcomes compared with alternative sequences.

Abstract: The first search for the lepton number violating decay K+→π0π−μ+e+ and lepton flavour violating decays K+→π0π+μ−e+, K+→π0π+μ+e− has been performed using a dataset collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2016–2018. Upper limits of 2.9×10−10, 3.1×10−10 and 5.0×10−10, respectively, are obtained at 90% CL for the branching ratios of the three decays on the assumption of uniform phase-space distributions.

Abstract: Background: Serum thromboxane B2 (sTXB2) is a validated biomarker of low-dose aspirin pharmacodynamics. In the original method, nonanticoagulated blood samples must be incubated at 37 °C immediately after withdrawal, centrifuged and serum supernatant should be frozen until assayed. Timely completion of all preanalytical steps may affect the feasibility and quality of sTXB2 measurements. The storage duration of frozen serum can also affect sTXB2 stability. Objectives: We assessed the stability of sTXB2 in clotted blood samples stored at 4 °C before further processing and in sera stored at −40 °C for over a decade. Methods: Venous whole blood withdrawn from individuals on chronic low-dose aspirin was dispensed in different tubes and immediately incubated at 37 °C for 1 hour.
