The connection between physical activity and cognitive function has become a focus of attention in educational research in recent years. Regular exercise has been shown to have significant positive effects on physical health, but it also appears to have a significant impact on cognitive function and academic performance. Of all the exercise modalities, resistance training has drawn interest for its ability to improve cerebral abilities in addition to physical wellbeing. However, there is limited available knowledge exploring the relationship between resistance training regimens and academic performance. This narrative review aims to investigate the underlying mechanisms linking resistance training to academic performance. Firstly, we will examine the biological mechanisms and psychosocial links that potentially connect resistance training to academic performance to find and describe the different mechanisms by which resistance training improves academic performance. In the next part of the work, we delve into the existing observational and intervention studies that have explored the relationship between resistance training and academic performance. Lastly, we provide practical recommendations for including resistance training in institutional education settings, emphasizing the need of dispelling myths and addressing barriers to increase participation as well as the relevance of considering key training variables and adaptation of protocols to developmental stages, always guided by a properly trained professional. Overall, the available evidence supports that resistance training provides potential benefits to the academic performance of youth students with many biological and psychosocial factors that explain this relationship. However, most of the studies are observational, and broader interventional studies are needed to understand and maximize the benefits of this type of physical exercise. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: During the recent years, the field of exercise and physical activity have expanded prominently, not only for the prevention but also for the management of different pathologies, including breast cancer. A broad range of studies have been conducted to analyze this relationship, in aim to find the best routines and use of exercise in breast cancer management. Although many works provide contradictory results in these terms, there is less doubt regarding the role of physical activity as a central support for breast cancer patients, due to the systemic benefits of exercise in these women, therefore decreasing the risk of breast cancer-related complications and increasing their quality of life and survival. Future research should be established in order to individualize the physical activity performed by these women based on the available scientific evidence in a multidisciplinary context to maximize the success of breast cancer management. Breast cancer (BC) is the most common malignancy and the second cause of cancer-related death among women. It is estimated that 9 in 10 cases of BC are due to non-genetic factors, and approximately 25% to 30% of total breast cancer cases should be preventable only by lifestyle interventions. In this context, physical activity represents an excellent and accessible approach not only for the prevention, but also for being a potential support in the management of breast cancer. The present review will collect the current knowledge of physical activity in the background of breast cancer, exploring its systemic and molecular effects, considering important variables in the training of these women and the evidence regarding the benefits of exercise on breast cancer survival and prognosis. We will also summarize the various effects of physical activity as a co-adjuvant therapy in women receiving different treatments to deal with its adverse effects. Finally, we will reveal the impact of physical activity in the enhancement of quality of life of these patients, to conclude the central role that exercise must occupy in breast cancer management, in an adequate context of a healthy lifestyle. Objective : To analyze the Glycemic Risk Index (GRI) and assess their possible differences according to coefficient of variation (CV) in a cohort of real-life type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM) patient users of intermittently scanned continuous glucose monitoring (isCGM). Patients and Methods : In total, 447 adult users of isCGM with an adherence ≥70% were included in a cross-sectional study. GRI was calculated with its hypoglycemia (CHypo) and hyperglycemia (CHyper) components. Multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to evaluate the factors associated with GRI. Results: Mean age was 44.6 years (standard deviation [SD] 13.7), 57.7% being male; age of DM onset was 24.5 years (SD 14.3) and time of evolution was 20.6 years (SD 12.3). In patients with CV >36% (52.8%) versus CV ≤36% (47.2%), differences were observed in relation to GRI (18.8% [SD 1.9]; P < 0.001), CHypo (2.9% [SD 0.3]; P < 0.001), CHyper (6.3% [SD 1.4]; P < 0.001), and all classical glucometric parameters except time above range level 1. The variables that were independently associated with GRI in patient with CV >36% were time in range (TIR) (β = -1.49; confidence interval [CI:] 95% -1.63 to -1.37; P < 0.001), glucose management indicator (GMI) (β = -7.22; CI: 95% -9.53 to -4.91; P < 0.001), and CV (β = 0.85; CI: 95% 0.69 to 1.02; P < 0.001). However, in patients with CV ≤36%, the variables were age (β = 0.15; CI: 95% 0.03 to 0.28; P = 0.019), age of onset (β = -0.15; CI: 95% -0.28 to -0.02; P = 0.023), TIR (β = -1.35; CI: 95% -1.46 to -1.23; P < 0.001), GMI (β = -6.67; CI: 95% -9.18 to -4.15; P < 0.001), and CV (β = 0.33; CI: 95% 0.11 to 0.56; P = 0.004). Conclusions : In this study, the factors independently associated with metabolic control according to GRI are modified by glycemic variability.

Pancreatic cancer is a malignant neoplasm that, despite its low frequency, has a 5-year survival rate of less than 10%. The study of different histopathological markers has allowed a better understanding of the onset and development of this type of tumor as well as facilitating an approach to clinical variables based on their diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive value. In this sense, the NLRP3 protein of the inflammasome has been shown to be a component of great relevance in the initiation and progression of pancreatic cancer, although the value of this biomarker in patients has not yet been clarified. In this study, we selected 41 patients with pancreatic cancer and followed them for 60 months (5 years), evaluating their NLRP3 expression using immunohistochemical techniques. Furthermore, by performing Kaplan-Meier curves, we evaluated the survival of these patients in relation to their NLRP3 expression. Our results show that a significant percentage of our cohort had high expression of this component (90.74%) and that there is an inverse relationship between the expression of NLRP3 and patient survival. High levels of NLRP3 expression are related to lower survival and worse prognosis in these patients, possibly due to an ineffective immune system response and increased tumor-promoted inflammation. Pancreatic cancer is a highly lethal malignancy with a growing incidence reported worldwide. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is the most common type of pancreatic cancer, which is often diagnosed at advanced stages, making its prognosis and medical management difficult. The identification of histopathological biomarkers has allowed a more precise stratification of pancreatic cancer patients, providing additional information about their prognosis and offering possible therapeutic targets to be explored. The prognostic value of the receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B (RANK) and its ligand (RANKL) has been evaluated in breast and prostate tumors, however, their usefulness has not been assessed in pancreatic cancer. In the present work, we analyzed the relationship between the protein expression of RANK and RANKL with the survival of 41 patients with pancreatic cancer followed for 60 months, by performing immunohistochemistry and Kaplan-Meier curves. Our results demonstrate a direct association of high expression levels of RANK and RANKL with poorer survival of pancreatic cancer patients in comparison to those with low/medium and null expression levels of both markers. Psychosis is a hazardous and functionally disruptive psychiatric condition which may affect women in pregnancy, entailing negative consequences for maternofetal well-being. The precise pathophysiological basis and consequences of a psychotic episode in pregnancy remain to be further elucidated. The placenta is a pivotal tissue with many functions in the gestational period, critically influencing the fate and development of pregnancy. Although detrimental alterations have been observed in women undergoing severe psychiatric disorders in pregnancy, there are little studies evaluating the consequences of suffering from a psychotic episode in the placental tissue In this work, we have evaluated the histopathological consequences of a first episode of psychosis in pregnancy (FE-PW; N=22) and compare them with healthy pregnant women (HC-PW; N=20) by using histological, immunohistochemical and gene expression techniques. Our results define that the placental tissue of FE-PW display an increase in the number of placental villi, bridges, syncytial knots and syncytial knots/villi. Besides, we have also observed an enhanced gene and protein expression in FE-PW of the hypoxic marker HIF-1α, together with the apoptotic markers BAX and Bcl-2. To our knowledge, this is the first study demonstrating significant histopathological changes in the placenta of women suffering a new-onset psychotic episode in pregnancy. Pancreatic cancer is a malignancy of rising incidence, especially in developed countries due to causes such as sedentary lifestyles, tobacco smoking and ultraprocessed high fat and high sugar diets, amongst others. It is in fact the 7th cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, and, in the following years, it is expected to climb upwards to 2nd position, after lung cancer. This is because it may have an asymptomatic course, and when it becomes evident it is in advanced stages, accompanied by metastasis generally. For this reason, survival rates are so low and, even in the few successful cases there is a high possibility of recurrence. Identifying new molecular biomarkers is arising as a highly useful tool for pancreatic cancer clinical management, although much research and work remain to be done in this field. Thus, the present study aims to analyze a series of molecules (IRS-4, Rb1, Ki-67 y COX-2) as candidates for prognosis and survival by immunohistochemistry techniques. Additionally, a 60-month longitudinal surveillance program was conducted, associated with diverse clinical parameters. Kaplan-Meier curves estimating the time of survival according to tumoral expression of those molecules denoted a low cumulative survival rate. Importantly, we observed that high levels of IRS-4 were significantly associated with a bad prognosis of the disease, increasing 160 times the mortality risk. In this way, our research showed a relevant value of these biomarkers in pancreatic cancer patients' survival, opening a pathway for future research areas designed to inhibit these components.

The pathogenesis of chronic venous disorder (CVeD) remains partially understood. A marked wall remodeling has been shown with potential accelerated tissue senescence. We have investigated the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) isoforms transcription factor EB (TFEB) as regulatory molecules of cellular homeostasis and makers of peroxisomal and lysosomal biogenesis. We have also quantified p16 expression as a cellular senescence marker. In specimens of maior safena vein from 35 CVeD and 27 healthy venous controls (HV), we studied the expression of PPAR-α, PPAR-β/δ, PPAR-γ, TFEB and p16 by RT-qPCR and immunohistochemical techniques. We have demonstrated a reduced gene and protein expression of the PPAR-α and PPAR-β/δ isoform as well as that of TFEB in the venous wall of CVeD patients, suggesting an altered peroxisomal and lysosomal biogenesis associated with an increased cellular senescence shown by increased p16 expression.
