Determination of tritium along Danube River Banks, in shallow waters, from Baziaş to Sulina, led to an average value of 29 TU and to a slight increasing tendency. Upstream/downstream "signatures" of Kozloduy NPP and Cernavoda NPP, and lower values on the left bank than on right bank in Romania, between Ostrov and Tulcea were highlighted. For Black Sea Coast seashore waters, from Periboina to Vama Veche (55 points; average 31 TU), was highlighted tritium decreasing southward, a rising into central area, a difference between exposed and gulf areas, between seawater and adjacent lakes by the sea. In order to ensure good living standards, all risk factors are considered in ensuring work and life conditions. The urban lives we live can be influenced by the quality of air both at work and at home. Amongst environmental factors, air is essential to a good quality of life. A component that demands close supervision is the radioactive gas Radon. It originates both from natural radioactive constituents of Earth's crust and construction materials. This introduces variety to the places where Radon is found, both in terms of local geological structure as well as building characteristics. Radon concentration levels in inhabited buildings can also be influenced by the tenant's daily habits. Both the presence and measures of reducing the concentration of this radioactive gas require its monitoring. The adoption of EU directive 2013/59/Euratom draw attention on protection of the population and working personnel at Radon exposure, in buildings with public access and workplaces, from any source of Radon infiltration, whether originating from the ground and/or from construction materials. The Radioecology Laboratory INCDM "Grigore Antipa" - Constanta initiated a program of methodological testing and annual Radon monitoring. Preliminary results of Radon concentration measurements through an active method range from 10-429 Bq/m3 (Fig. 1). Constant supervision is maintained in order to consolidate observations of Rn concentration variation over time, as a function of meteorological parameters, this potentially serving as a benchmark for measurements in coastal areas. The common mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis was selected as unique biomonitor species to implement a regional monitoring programme, the CIESM Mediterranean Mussel Watch (MMW), in the Mediterranean and Black Seas. As of today, and upon standardization of the methodological approach, the MMW Network has been able to quantify 137Cs levels in mussels from 60 coastal stations and to produce the first distribution map of this artificial radionuclide at the scale of the entire Mediterranean and Black Seas. While measured 137Cs levels were found to be very low (usually <1Bqkg−1 wet wt) 137Cs activity concentrations in the Black Sea and North Aegean Sea were up to two orders of magnitude higher than those in the western Mediterranean Basin. Such effects, far from representing a threat to human populations or the environment, reflect a persistent signature of the Chernobyl fallout in this area. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
