Campylobacter species are one of the leading causes of foodborne disease. Poultry is a major reservoir and source of its transmission to humans. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance of Campylobacter spp. isolated from chicken carcasses, the environment, and processing equipment of a poultry slaughterhouse in Greece, to identify the dominant Campylobacter species and to determine if there are clonal relationships among the isolates. Fifty poultry samples and 25 environmental samples were examined using microbial cultures and PCR. Forty-nine of 50 poultry samples (98%) were found to be positive for Campylobacter spp. The environment of the slaughterhouse was also found to be significantly contaminated with Campylobacter spp. Thirty-seven isolates were found to be susceptible to all antimicrobials tested (56.1%) and 29 isolates showed resistance to at least two of the antimicrobials tested (43.9%). We observed 24 different PFGE-types among the 53 isolates with 14 of them isolated only once, while five PFGE-types were represented by two isolates. The remaining 29 isolates were represented by five PFGE-types each consisting of three to 12 isolates. Regarding the relationship of the PFGE types and corresponding resistance profiles, all strains of each PFGE-type shared the same antimicrobial resistance profile. This study reports evidence for Campylobacter spp. cross-contamination among broiler carcasses in a Greek slaughterhouse.

The advent of distributed renewable energy sources (DRESs) has led to the progressive transformation of traditional distribution networks to active components of the power system. This transformation, however, may jeopardize the reliable grid operation due to the advent of new technical problems, such as network overloading, over-/under-voltage events, abnormal frequency deviation and dynamic instability. In this challenging scenery, the installation of a modern measuring infrastructure has created new sources of data and information that facilitate the provision of ancillary services (ASs) via measurement-based analysis. The ACTIVATE (ancillary services in active distribution networks based on monitoring and control techniques) project aims to design innovative AS solutions for power system operators. These solutions aim to tackle the technical issues emerged by the ever-increasing DRES penetration and their volatile nature. In this context, in ACTIVATE, a holistic system is proposed comprising centralized and decentralized control features to enhance the overall network performance. Additionally, a network monitoring system is designed to support a number of online and offline dynamic analysis applications by exploiting measurements obtained at the transmission, primary and secondary distribution network. This paper presents a validation of the overall system, which is performed by using simulation and power-hardware-in-the-loop results in combined transmission and distribution network models. The increasing penetration of distributed renewable energy sources drastically alters the dynamic characteristics of distribution networks (DNs). Therefore, several equivalent models have been recently proposed, to analyze more accurately the complex behavior of modern DNs. However, relatively simple models are still commonly used in practice for dynamic power system studies. In addition, dynamic equivalent models for DNs are sensitive to different operating conditions and there is lack of systematic understanding of their performance. Scope of this paper is to propose a methodology for identifying the applicability range in terms of accuracy and generalization capability of several conventional and newly developed equivalent models for the dynamic analysis of modern DNs. A set of metrics is used for the modelling accuracy assessment and a sensitivity analysis framework is introduced to fully quantify the generalization capabilities of DN equivalent models. The influence of stratified earth on the wave propagation characteristics of overhead conductors is analyzed, using a generalized two-layer earth model of varying electromagnetic characteristics. A systematic comparison to simpler stratified earth models is presented, showing the differences in the propagation characteristics. Water resources are increasingly coming under pressure specially around the Mediterranean area, leading to water scarcity and a deterioration in water quality. The use of treated wastewater represents an alternative source to enhance the demand for irrigation water. Water reuse in combination with the promotion of the use of water‐efficient technologies in industry and water‐saving irrigation techniques could lead to good qualitative and quantitative water status for surface and ground water bodies. Nevertheless, food‐borne outbreaks linked to fresh produce irrigated with partially or untreated wastewater caused by bacteria, parasites and enteropathogenic viruses have been widely reported. In the absence of solid scientific understanding of the actual risks involved, consumers are likely less receptive to buy leafy greens irrigated with treated wastewater, also known as reclaimed water. In this study, we aimed to assess the microbiological risks of leafy green vegetables irrigated with treated wastewater in Spain using Norovirus as a model organism to facilitate the development of risk management strategies. A conceptual exposure model was designed to describe the virus fate and transport from the Wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) secondary effluent to the consumers' fork. This study is an example of the use of reclaimed water for irrigation of commercial fields producing leafy greens in the south‐east of Spain and tries to assess potential microbiological risks to the consumers by establishing their safety. Power-line communications over the low-voltage networks is gaining the attention of researchers in both broadband and narrowband application areas. The transmission characteristics of the power-line carrier are very significant in signal propagation. This paper presents field test and simulation results concerning signal transmission on power lines in underground and aerial installations within the CENELEC EN 50065-1 B band. Field test results show the consistency to the transmission line theory and modal wave propagation. The well-known Alternate Transients Program-Electromagnetic Transients Program (ATP-EMTP) is used for the simulation of the transmission path. Simulation results, obtained for different operational cases and configurations, are compared to the actual measurements from field tests, showing satisfactory agreement. Finally, the proposed models are used in further investigations concerning the signal transmission. Passive distribution networks tend to become active, due to the high penetration of photovoltaic units, battery energy storage utilization and their combined active participation to distribution network operation. In this paper, a framework for the assessment of the impact of photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems on voltage profiles, power losses and reverse power flow phenomena of active distribution networks is proposed. Also, the utilization of photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems is evaluated. The proposed methodology is applied to statistically analyse results obtained from annual timeseries power flow calculations in a real 18‐bus low‐voltage network over a range of operating conditions; the obtained results are quantified using a set of probabilistic indices. The proposed framework can be a useful tool for distribution system operators to identify operational challenges and ensure the optimal exploitation of end‐user and network assets. A stochastic lightning attachment model for evaluating the lightning performance of overhead transmission lines is introduced. The proposed model considers the stochastic nature of lightning attachment by taking into account the lightning discharge branched and tortuous behavior. It integrates physical criteria on leader inception by adopting the Petrov and Waters model, as well as leader discharge progression considering also the competing interaction of multiple upward leaders. A generalized methodology combining stochastic modeling of lightning incidence with an electromagnetic transients (EMT) simulation model is proposed so as to estimate the backflashover and shielding failure flashover rates of HVDC overhead lines; an application to a monopolar −400 kV line sheds light on the basic parameters that affect the lightning performance of HVDC lines. The probability of shielding failure is higher than that obtained by the deterministic lightning attachment models. The stochastic nature of lightning attachment and the effect of lightning peak current distribution should be considered for the design and evaluation of the lightning performance of the emerging HVDC systems. "Interaction" represents a critical term in the augmented and mixed reality ecosystem. Today, in mixed reality environments and applications, interaction occupies the joint space between any combination of humans, physical environment, and computers. Although interaction methods and techniques have been extensively examined in recent decades in the field of human-computer interaction, they still should be reidentified in the context of immersive realities. The latest technological advancements in sensors, processing power and technologies, including the internet of things and the 5G GSM network, led to innovative and advanced input methods and enforced computer environmental perception. For example, ubiquitous sensors under a high-speed GSM network may enhance mobile users' interactions with physical or virtual objects. As technological advancements emerge, researchers create umbrella terms to define their work, such as multimodal, tangible, and collaborative interactions. However, although they serve their purpose, various naming trends overlap in terminology, diverge in definitions, and lack modality and conceptual framework classifications. This paper presents a modality-based interaction-oriented diagram for researchers to position their work and defines taxonomy ground rules to expand and adjust this diagram when novel interaction approaches emerge. Collybistin (CB) is a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) selectively localized at GABAergic and glycinergic postsynapses. Analysis of mRNA shows that several isoforms of collybistin are expressed in the brain. Some of the isoforms have a SH3 domain (CBSH3+) and some have no SH3 domain (CBSH3−). The CBSH3+ mRNAs are predominantly expressed over CBSH3−. However, in an immunoblot study of mouse brain homogenates, only CBSH3+ protein isoforms were detected, proposing that CBSH3− protein might not be expressed in the brain. The expression or lack of expression of CBSH3− protein is an important issue because CBSH3− has a strong effect in promoting the postsynaptic clustering of gephyrin and GABA‐A receptors (GABAARs). Moreover CBSH3− is constitutively active; therefore lower expression of CBSH3− protein might play a relatively stronger functional role than the more abundant but self‐inhibited CBSH3+ isoforms, which need to be activated. We are now showing that: (a) CBSH3− protein is expressed in the brain; (b) parvalbumin positive (PV+) interneurons show higher expression of CBSH3− protein than other neurons; (c) CBSH3− is associated with GABAergic synapses in various regions of the brain and (d) knocking down CBSH3− in hippocampal neurons decreases the synaptic clustering of gephyrin and GABAARs. The ever-increasing demand for electricity, the advent of microgrids and the increasing penetration of distributed generators has renewed the interest in dynamic equivalencing, due to to its importance on power system analysis and control applications. This paper introduces a robust measurement-based framework for the online derivation of dynamic equivalent models. First, events/disturbances suitable for the derivation of dynamic equivalent models are automatically detected. Next, signal processing techniques are applied to recover missing samples and to remove noisy components from measured data. To exclude unnecessary post-disturbance data, a fine-tuning technique of the signal window length is also proposed as a supplementary offline process. Finally, model parameters are estimated using nonlinear least-squares optimization. The performance of the proposed methodology is tested using artificially created signals, simulation results obtained from a modified benchmark distribution grid and measurements acquired from a laboratory-scale active distribution network. We put forward a conceptualization of Mixed Reality as a blend of digital objects with real ones that coexist and interact with each other and they are also spatially referenced so that they are properly perceived in space by an observer that could potentially be at any position any time. In accordance with this statement, we have adopted the concept of a Mixed Object which is composed of a set of physical properties linked with a set of digital ones. In our case, the physical properties are acquired by employing geospatial technologies such as photogrammetry, laser scanning, unmanned aerial vehicles and positioning systems and are further processed in order to be visually displayed by utilizing Geographical Information Systems and Geovisualization frameworks in combination with traditional image processing techniques. We show that the Mixed Object approach is in conformance with Microsoft's approach on Mixed Reality as the common space between humans, computers, and the environment and we further incorporate in these the Geospatial Linking Modalities. We finally provide an affordable MR experience as a proof of concept, by utilizing a smartphone for capturing and visualizing the environment, a visual tag for positioning purposes and freely available photogrammetrically mapped content and virtual objects to form a digital scene blended with the real environment.
