Flight testing is necessary in the process of showing compliance of the airplane with specific design requirements. Utva Aviation Industry performed numerous flight tests of Sova airplane in order to prove its safety. Along with airplane design, structure, performance and equipment, it was necessary to show compliance of the powerplant. In this paper there is the analysis of the flight tests of the powerplant cooling in the most critical climbing case with maximum ambient atmospheric temperature for which approval is requested. Flight test report results are presented with defined minimum speed for these conditions proving our four-seater meets all requirements in its category.

Background/Aim. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a method which increases oxygen solubility in plasma up to 20 times. This effect is very important in the treatment of circulatory disorders, which reduces oxygenation and leads to increased production of inflammatory mediators and free oxygen radicals. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of HBOT on the oxidative stress parameters in the patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Methods. This prospective study included 18 females with SLE [American College of Rheumatology (ACR) criteria], average age 52.2 ± 8.82 years, treated with HBOT for 60 min/day, with average partial oxygen pressure of 2.2 atmospheres absolute (ATA), during 10 days, in combination with appropriate medication therapy for SLE. The following parameters were determined in the serum: C-reactive protein (CRP), hemoglobin, creatinine, albumin, complement 3 (C3), antinuclear antibodies (ANA), glomerular filtration rate (GFR) using the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) formula. In the urine, parameters of oxidative stress were spectrofotometrically determined: levels of superoxide anion radical (O2 •–), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), nitrites (NO2-) and concentration of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS). In hemolysate, the parameters of antioxidant protection: superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and reduced gluthatione (GSH), were measured. The samples for the analysis were collected three times: before HBOT (initial values), after 10 days of HBOT and 1 month after beginning the treatment in relation to the initial value. Results. We noticed a statistically significant (p < 0.05) decrease in a level of O2 •–, both after 10 days and after 1 month of HBOT (8.26 ± 13.62; 8.39 ± 4.94; 11.92 ± 6.86 nmol/mL, respectively). Values of other parameters of oxidative stress such as NO2-, TBARS and H2O2- showed no significant difference during the monitored period. Regarding the parameters of antioxidant the protection, we revealed slightly higher value of GSH after treatment (initial value: 66.34 ± 16.31; after 10 days of HBOT 79.43 ± 36.77; after 1 month of HBOT69.72 ± 22.32 μmol/mL red blood cells) which was held after a month, but it was not statistically significant. Activity of SOD and CAT, before and after HBOT, did not change significantly. Conclusion. Our results suggested the potential beneficial effects of HBOT on redox status in the patients with SLE by decreasing the levels of O2•–.

The aim of present study was to investigate the difference between α-linolenic acid (ALA, omega-3) and linoleic acid (LA, n-6) on the redox status and cardiac function of the isolated rat heart. ALA or LA were administered for 6 weeks by gavage to all animals, which were randomly divided into 4 groups: male rats treated with a linoleic acid (M-LA), dose of 7.3 mg/kg/day; female rats treated with a linoleic acid (F-LA), dose of 7.3 mg/kg/day; male rats treated with an α-linolenic acid (M-ALA), dose of 165 mg/kg/day; female rats treated with α-linolenic acid (F-ALA), dose of 165 mg/kg/day. Using the Langendorff technique, markers of heart function were evaluated: the maximum and minimum rates of pressure development in the left ventricle (LV; dp/dt max, dp/dt min), systolic and diastolic left ventricle pressure (SLVP, DLVP, respectively), heart rate (HR) and coronary flow (CF). We measured the concentrations of prooxidative markers: nitrites (NO2 -), superoxide anion radicals (O2 -) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), as well as the index of lipid peroxidation (TBARS) in the plasma and effluent. In the lysate, we measured the concentrations of reduced glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD). ALA more negatively influenced the isolated rat heart, especially in females. In contrast, the administration of LA was linked to more prominent oxidative stress, while the application of ALA was associated with improved activity of the antioxidative defense system (with better values in males).

Estrogen has a role in the proliferation of luminal layer of epithelial breast cells and approximately 70% of human breast cancers have estrogen receptor expression. Based on the hormone receptor expression, we can classify these carcinomas as hormone-dependent and hormone-independent. Considering that the data in the world literature are incomplete, the aim of this research was a comparative analysis of these characteristics of hormone-dependent and hormone-independent lobular breast carcinomas. One hundred thirty-eight cases of lobular breast carcinomas were analyzed in relation to their hormonal status. Obtained morphometric values were subjected to statistical analysis using Student's t-test and Fisher's test. Statistically significant difference between groups of patients with hormone-dependent and hormoneindependent lobular breast carcinomas was found for the age of patients (p = 0.036) and nuclear gradus (p = 0.006). On the other hand there was no statistically significant difference between two groups of patients considering the presence of metastasis in the axillary lymph nodes (p > 0.05). It was found that the patients with hormone-independent lobular breast carcinoma were significantly older then the patients with hormone-independent lobular breast carcinoma, and that expression of hormone receptors did not play a key role in metastasis of this carcinoma to the axillary lymph nodes. Background: Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs), in complex with their receptors (FGFRs), regulate a broad spectrum of biological functions including cellular proliferation, survival, migration, and differentiation. In human endometrial stromal cells, FGF9 is regulated with estrogen (E). Methods/ Results: First, we report that in uterus tissue of ovariectomized wild type mice, FGF9 is present in three isoforms and is regulated with E. Second, we found that during periimplantation, Fgf9 expression reached its peak at day 4.5 of pregnancy. Immunofluorescence analyses demonstrated overlapping FGF9 and COX2 expression surrounding the blastocyst attachment site. Next, we identified FGF9- and CD31-positive cells as a part of the microvessels; however, expression was localized to a distinct population of cells. Finally, our data showed synchronized, spatial expression of FGF9 on the luminal epithelium with FGFR2 present on the trophectoderm. Conclusion: Our data suggest that FGF9 is a crucial factor required to establish the appropriate microenvironment for successful implantation and the maintenance of pregnancy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The pathogenesis of essential hypertension, congestive heart failure, and reno-vascular hypertension is related to angiotensin II. This study presents QSAR modeling for a set of compounds acting as angiotensin II receptor antagonists based on the Monte Carlo optimization with molecular graph-based and SMILES notation based descriptors. Conformation independent QSAR models were developed for three random splits. Various statistical approaches were used to assess the statistical quality of the developed models, and the obtained results were very good. This study used a novel statistical metric known as the index of ideality of correlation for the final assessment of the model, and the results that were obtained suggested that the model was good. Also, molecular fragments which account for the increases and/or decreases of a studied activity were defined and then used for the computer-aided design of new compounds as potential angiotensin II receptor antagonists. The final assessment of the designed inhibitors, was performed with the use of molecular docking studies, highlighting exceptional correlation with the QSAR modeling results. The methodology which is presented in this research can be applied for seeking new agents for cardiovascular disorders treatment by angiotensin II receptor antagonism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background/Aim. The growing number of older adults means higher medicine utilization. The aim of the study was to determine the frequency and identify risk factors of potentially inappropriate medication (PIM) in the elderly population with cardiovascular diseases. Methods. The retrospective, cross-sectional study was performed in 2018, and the relevant data were collected during the period from January 2016 to December 2017. The study sample included 1,500 patients over 65 years with cardiovascular disease who had medical records at the Institute for Gerontology and Palliative Care, Belgrade. Assessment of PIM was done by standard international criteria such as the American Geriatrics Society 2015 updated Beers Criteria for PIM use in older adults. Results. PIM frequency in the elderly population was 70.3%. In relation to gender, it was more frequent in female elders. The mean number of prescribed drugs was similar for 2016 and 2017, 7.2 and 7.3, respectively. The most common were: medium-acting benzodiazepines (70.9%), central α blockers (23.98%), and antipsychotics (typical and atypical) (20.94%). The most common comorbidity was noted in a group labeled with the International Disease Classification I00-I99, which includes heart and blood vessel diseases [n = 2,658 (36.9%)]. The most common diagnoses belonged to the subgroups I10-I15 [hypertensive diseases, n = 1,298 (18%)], I20-I25 [ischemic heart diseases n = 542 (7.5%)], I30-I52 [other forms of heart disease, n = 705 (9.8%)], I60-I69 [cerebrovascular diseases, n = 94 (1.3%)], and I80- I89 [diseases of veins, lymph vessels, and lymph nodes n = 12 (0.17%)]. The risk factors for PIM were: polypharmacy, gender, nicotine use, cognitive status, nutrition state, and the number of diseases registered in the study sample. Conclusion. Cardiovascular diseases in the elderly population are associated with a high prevalence of PIM. Creating health recommendations for prescribing drugs to the elderly that would emphasize these factors could reduce the prevalence of PIM in this population.
