Purpose: This paper aims to clarify the differences between students' travel behaviours in Australia and China and the association between students' environmental attitudes and their travel behaviours in both countries. Design/methodology/approach: The paper extensively reviewed most of existing literature work on commuting patterns of higher education students with referring to different studies around the world and then used it to build a theoretical framework and conceptual model to relate the travel patterns of students to built environment, personal demographics and environmental knowledge/consideration. An online survey was used with 230 students at Mawson Lakes campus of University of South Australia and Beiyangyuan campus of Tianjin University (China). Statistical tests (i.e. mean test, one-way analysis of variance, factor analysis) were used to analyse the data. Findings: The study reveals that a high dependence on private vehicles amongst students at the Mawson Lakes campus, whilst a more environmentally sustainable modal choice dominated at the Beiyangyuan campus. Those who studied at Mawson Lakes campus tended to have stronger involvement in environmental activities than their counterparts at Beiyangyuan campus, which presented a clear association between environmental awareness and the travel behaviours of the sampled students. Research limitations/implications: The study focussed on two respective campuses of both universities in Australia and China. Future work could be expanded with students at all campuses of two universities. Practical implications: The study affirmed the value of nurturing environmental awareness for students in both universities to encourage more environmentally sustainable travel behaviours amongst students. The paper provides policy recommendations such as establishing infrastructure, and facilities for new stream of mobility included sharing bike schemes, which would be very practical due to flexibility and cost effectiveness within University campuses. The paper attempted to transfer lessons from Chinese bike friendly society to Adelaide's car dominated campus. Originality/value: This study brings remarkable contributions as comparing university students' travel behaviours in two different nations. It is the first one in Australia, which links the environmental concerns among university students with their travel behaviours. The paper was successful in getting the gap between theory and practice filled to some extent. The paper has a capability to be used as an evidence-base work in the area of sustainability education.

Our study aims to describe the current state of AME reporting practices and some related factors to provide evidence for patient safety management and hospital quality improvement. A cross-sectional study was carried out at Gia Lai Provincial General Hospital in 2021, applying both qualitative and quantitative research methods. The probability of meeting AME in the study is 19.27%, but only 15.66% of the subjects reported AME. Cognitive and behavioral limitations are significant factors in AME practice. AME training at the hospital has not been widely implemented. 93.98 percent of medical personnel work more than 40 h per week, and 37.95 percent report being overworked. Overworking increases the likelihood of having AME and lowers AME reporting rates. Complicated, time-consuming reporting processes, regulatory systems for reporting adverse events, and insufficient supervisors are all factors that impede AME reporting practices. The practice of AME reporting at Gia Lai Provincial General Hospital is limited and affected by factors such as knowledge and attitudes of medical personnel, work pressure, and the system of regulations and procedures related to AME report. Multifunctional nanocomposites have received great attention for years; electron transfer (ET) is considered as an explanatory mechanism for enhancement of performance of these nanostructures. The existence of this ET process has been proved in many studies using either experimental or computational approaches. In this study, a ternary nanocomposite system of Ag/TiO2/GO was prepared to evaluate the performance enhancement in two experimental models: a physical model (i.e., surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensor) and a chemical one (i.e., catalytic reduction reaction). The metal/semiconductor heterojunction between Ag and TiO2, as well as Ti-O-C bonds, has allowed plasmonic hot electrons to be transferred in the internal structure of the material. An investigation on the role of Ag content on the SERS sensing and catalytic reduction efficiency of Ag/TiO2/GO was performed in both models. Interestingly, they all resulted in the same optimal Ag content of 50 wt%. It was then further discussed to provide a convincing evidence for the plasmon-induced electron transfer phenomena in the Ag/TiO2/GO nanostructure. These findings also suggest a pathway to design and develop high-performance, cost-effective, facile-preparation, and eco-friendly multifunctional nanostructures for detecting and removing contaminants in environment.

The market for commercially produced complementary foods (CPCF) is rapidly expanding in Southeast Asia; however, the existence and content of mandatory national policies, standards and legislation (binding legal measures) for CPCF in the region is unclear. To assess the status of national binding legal measures for CPCF in Southeast Asia, a legal and policy desk review was conducted in seven countries (Cambodia, Laos People's Democratic Republic, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam). The alignment of the national binding legal measures relevant to CPCF was assessed against guidance on CPCF nutrient composition and labelling requirements provided by Codex Alimentarius and the World Health Organization (WHO). Each of the seven countries had at least two national binding legal measures related to the nutrient composition or labelling of CPCF; however, there was limited alignment with the guidance from Codex and WHO. No country was fully aligned with the three CPCF‐specific Codex standards/guidelines and only one country was in full alignment with the recommendations related to the protection of breastfeeding from the 'WHO Guidance on ending the inappropriate promotion of foods for infants and young children'. The findings of the review indicate that the existing national binding legal measures are insufficient to ensure that the CPCF sold as suitable for older infants and young children are nutritionally adequate and labelled in a responsible manner that does not mislead caregivers. Improved and enforced national binding legal measures for CPCF, in alignment with global guidance, are required to ensure that countries protect, promote and support optimal nutrition for children 6–36 months of age. Key messages: Given the proliferation of commercially produced complementary foods (CPCF) in Southeast Asia, national binding legal measures are essential to ensure CPCF are nutritionally suitable for older infants and young children (IYC), and are labelled in a manner that does not mislead caregivers.All seven Southeast Asian countries included in this review were found to have at least two national binding legal measures related to the nutrient composition and/or labelling practices of CPCF. The ability to construct three-dimensional architectures via nanoscale engineering is important for emerging applications in sensors, catalysis, controlled drug delivery, microelectronics, and medical diagnostics nanotechnologies. Because of their well-defined and highly organized symmetric structures, viral plant capsids provide a 3D scaffold for the precise placement of functional inorganic particles yielding advanced hierarchical hybrid nanomaterials. In this study, we used turnip yellow mosaic virus (TYMV), grafting gold nanoparticles (AuNP) or iron oxide nanoparticles (IONP) onto its outer surface. It is the first time that such an assembly was obtained with IONP. After purification, the resulting nano-biohybrids were characterized by different technics (dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microcopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy...), showing the robustness of the architectures and their colloidal stability in water. In-solution photothermal experiments were then successfully conducted on TYMV-AuNP and TYMV-IONP, the related nano-biohybrids, evidencing a net enhancement of the heating capability of these systems compared to their free NP counterparts. Taking advantage of metal–semiconductor junctions, functional nanocomposites have been designed and developed as active substrates for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensing systems. In this work, we prepared three types of nanocomposites based on manganese oxide (MnO2) nanostructures and electrochemically synthesized silver nanoparticles (e-AgNPs), which differed according to the morphologies of MnO2. The SERS performance of MnO2 nanosheet/e-Ag (MnO2-s/e-Ag), MnO2 nanorod/e-Ag (MnO2-r/e-Ag), and MnO2 nanowire/e-Ag (MnO2-w/e-Ag) was then evaluated using tricyclazole (TCZ), a commonly used pesticide, as an analyte. Compared to the others, MnO2-s/e-Ag exhibited the most remarkable SERS enhancement. Thanks to its large surface area and ability to accept/donate the electrons of the semiconductor, MnO2-s acted as a bridge to improve the charge transfer efficiency from e-Ag to TCZ. In addition, the MnO2 content of the nanocomposites was also considered to optimize the SERS sensing performance. With the optimal MnO2 content of 25 wt%, MnO2-s/e-Ag could achieve the best SERS performance, allowing the detection of TCZ at concentrations down to 6 × 10−12 M in standard solutions and 10−11 M in real rice samples. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a powerful analysis technique that allows both the identification and detection of analytes at trace levels. However, the low rate of charge transfer (CT) between noble-metal nanoparticles and several analytes prevents them from being effectively detected by SERS-based sensors. They are regarded as low Raman cross-section molecules. In this study, we enhanced the performance of the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs)-based SERS sensing platform for a low Raman cross-section molecule, urea, focusing on improving the rate of CT. First, a set of Ag/titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanocomposites were synthesized. The presence of TiO2 improved the intensity of the SERS signal of urea, in comparison to the use of bare AgNPs. Second, a photoinduced enhanced Raman spectroscopy (PIERS) technique was employed to further elevate the Raman signal of urea. Thanks to the step of preirradiation using UV light at λ = 365 nm, with the use of the substrates containing 25%, 33%, and 50% TiO2 content, enhancements of 1.93, 3.42, and 7.45 times were achieved, respectively, compared to the use of Ag/TiO2 composites without UV irradiation. Through modification of the substrate, combined with application of the PIERS technique, the SERS system for urea detection using Ag/3TiO2 (50% TiO2) achieved a competitive detection limit of 4.6 × 10–6 M. It also allowed the detection of urea in milk at concentrations down to 10–5 M.
