The objective was to study the impacts of the implementation of fish farming projects (fish breeding), the quality of water effluents from these enterprises, in upland streams on properties in the municipalities of Manaus and Iranduba. We chose to monitor some physical-chemical attributes such as turbidity, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll-a, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and phosphorus because they are able to establish a relationship between fish farming and the loss of environmental quality of water. For this study, 16 sample units were analyzed, with two collection points each, upstream and downstream in the fish farming enterprises in uplands of continuous land (continuous flow), in two different periods in the year 2016 and 2017. The main variables studied in the analysis stage of an aquatic ecosystem, including fishing grounds, they can be: water temperature, pH, turbidity, concentration of nutrients (nitrite, nitrate and ammonia, total phosphorus), dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll. There was no significant difference in temperature, dissolved oxygen, ammonia and nitrate. There was a significant difference for the depth, turbidity and nitrite parameters. There was a significant difference for phosphorus and pH and no difference was observed for chlorophyll-a. The analyzed parameters were sufficient to demonstrate that the fish farming activity in Igarapé alters turbidity, nitrite and phosphorus and pH. Based on these parameters, better control of water quality in fish farming in Igarapé is suggested as water flow and better quality of the feed offered to fish. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this study was to evaluate newborn biometrics and characterization of Podocnemis expansa turtle nests in the Crixás-Açu rivers, municipalities of Mundo Novo, Goais, Brazil. It consists of evaluating the newborns and the characterization of the nests after hatching. There was no statistical difference between eggs with oil, predatory nests, dead newborns, un hatched eggs, shell (total number of eggs counted within a nest), as well as hatching and survival rates for the distance of 30 meters from the river course. Animal weight, hoof length, hoof width, plastron length, plastron width or number of shields were obtained statistically significant considering the same fixed distance of 30 or greater than 30 meters from the river bank. In the eggshell analysis, there was a statistical difference regarding the amount of the element "Carbon" found, unlike the samples of pH, "phosphorus", "potassium", "hydrogen", "aluminium", "calcium", "magnesium" and matter. Organic. As for the particle size analysis of the sand extracted from the nests, there was a statistical difference in two sizes; 1 and 2 millimeters. Learning about the biology of the species is essential to the success of intensive farming. This study aimed to evaluate the semen of Thai tilapia during the four seasons of the year and thereby analyze their reproductive indices. Thus, 60 breeding males of Tilapia were used and were randomly divided into four water tanks and fed with isoproteic and isocaloric feed. The experiment lasted 12 months, starting from October 2014 and ending on September 2015. Thus, it was possible to collect sperm material of animals during the four seasons, twice a month, as well as to evaluate the water quality parameters in the tanks (temperature, pH and dissolved oxygen). The semen was evaluated from a light microscope in an increase of 100 x, then was activated with water. Motility was measured subjectively in the light microscope, as well as the percentage of sperm showing progressive motility. The duration was evaluated with the addition of a timer. For analysis of the morphology of the semen, the test consisted of morphopathology observation of 100 sperm focused in various fields throughout the slide in the light microscope. Once obtained, these data were analyzed through ANOVA and Tukey test as post-hoc analysis, with the help of the software R Statistics. Water quality factors (temperature, pH and2 dissolved) were acceptable and during the 12 month period the sperm of tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) had a good ability for fertilization, seen that it performed below the average of the percentage of critical abnormalities, and quality was perceived by the parameters that also influence fertilization (motility rate, duration of motility and vigor). The present study aimed to study the reproduction of the Amazon turtle (Podocnemis expansa) through the evaluation of the reproductive parameters of adult females. This study was carried out in the Crixás-Açu River, municipality of Mundo Novo, state of Goiás, Brazil. In September, the biometrics of 20 females were evaluated during the spawning period. Their nests were marked for subsequent evaluation of hatchlings, measuring the distances of each nest to the river and vegetation. The second stage consisted of the evaluation of hatchlings and characterization of nests after egg hatching. The data were tested using the Pearson Correlation to measure the degree of linear correlation between the variables analyzed, such as the parameters of females, hatchlings, nests, and eggs. Nest depth was positively correlated with the number of eggshells found. We also found a correlation between the number of eggsshells and the distance of nests to the vegetation. Although moderate, this result indicates that as the distance to the vegetation increases, the number of eggshells found in nests decreases. The spawning site for Amazon turtle breeding is crucial to determine a higher number of eggs hatching and better development of hatchlings. However, the literature is still very scarce regarding the choice of spawning grounds and the influence that vegetation may have on the development of freshwater turtle hatchlings in Brazil. In this study, we evaluated the semen quality of Cachara (Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum) raised in captivity during its reproductive period. For the evaluation of qualitative parameters, we analyzed: sperm morphology, sperm motility, and sperm vigor; while for the quantitative parameter, we analyzed sperm concentration. In general, the main significant difference was found in March, with a motility rate of 40% and a duration of 39 seconds. The highest mean concentration (1.2x108) was observed in February, as well as the highest percentage of defects in the intermediate part of the spermatozoa (59%). The morphological analysis of spermatozoa showed an average of 24.2% abnormalities in the head and 22.7% in the intermediate part of spermatozoa of P. fasciatum for the four months studied. We did not find any evident relationship between the climate changes evaluated and the qualitative and quantitative parameters. The greatest difference between the percentage of normal spermatozoa and the sharp increase of defects in the intermediate piece, observed in February, can be explained by the sudden climate change, with a significant decrease in temperature and relative humidity, and increase in precipitation. These findings demonstrate the importance of maintaining an optimum climate interval during the breeding season for P. fasciatum. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Freshwater fish are an important source of protein, but they also contain other highly nutritive components such as fats. Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are essential for normal growth, development and reproduction of vertebrates. The antioxidant role of vitamin E in cell membranes prevents fatty acid and cholesterol oxidation, thereby promoting PUFA and subcellular particle stabilization. The effects of vitamin E supplementation on the quality of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) carcass were investigated. The experiments were carried out in an experimental laboratory over 106d. After sex reversal, 400 early juvenile O. niloticus were tested in a completely randomized experiment with 5 treatments (4 repetitions each), consisting of vitamin E monophosphate supplementation at 0, 50, 100, 150 or 200mg/kg of a base diet. Treatment diets contained equal amounts of protein and energy. Tilapias supplemented with vitamin E contained arachidonic acid (20:4 ω-6; AA) which participates in inflammatory response. Nile tilapia carcasses that received vitamin E at 100 and 150mg/kg diet had improved carcass quality by increasing the PUFA:SFA ratio and had the highest levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids from the omega-3 (linolenic acid; 18:3 ω-3) and omega-6 (linoleic acid; 18:2 ω-6) series.
