School social work (SSW) roles are often surrounded by ambiguity across schools, districts, states, and nationally. The School Social Work Association of America's National Practice Model and National Evaluation Framework, along with the National Association of Social Workers' Standards for School Social Work Services are the guidance provided at the national level for practitioners and scholars alike. This study examined each of these pieces to thoroughly understand existing critical components of SSW practice. Comparing and analyzing these critical components across all three resources through systematic content analysis led to findings that illuminate the limited shared components. This call for action—to unify SSW practice models and frameworks in a way to prescribe justice-oriented work—comes from these findings, which indicate that current national-level resources are disjointed, incohesive, and lack focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion practices, which are the foundational values of the social work profession. A unified framework would not only represent the current challenges and needs of SSW practitioners, but would also help establish clear roles, responsibilities, and boundaries for SSW practice. The global humanitarian architecture has undergone changes influenced by a broad spectrum of problems, emergencies, and both man-made and natural disasters. One of the trends in its development is the activation of non-Western actors contributing substantially to expanding the tools of humanitarian diplomatic practice. Modern crisis phenomena in world politics have underscored the need for the scientific community to revise basic approaches and conceptual frameworks of international humanitarian cooperation. One such attempt is the collective monograph “Humanitarian diplomacy: Civilizational and national models”, prepared under the leadership of Professor Olga Bogatyreva, which serves as a continuation of the book published in 2021. This article provides a critical analysis the main provisions of the monograph and reveals two perspectives on studying modern models of humanitarian diplomacy. On the one hand, the authors examine them through the prism of the multi-level structure of diplomatic practice. On the other hand, they strive to go beyond traditional research optics, highlighting and analyzing the civilizational aspects of humanitarian diplomacy. The book under review attempts to characterize the structure of humanitarian diplomacy in the Mediterranean region, Latin America and the Caribbean, and to identify the main actors and key areas of humanitarian action. One of the chapters discusses China’s national model. The authors of the monograph conclude that national and civilizational models of humanitarian diplomacy are shaped by a complex of factors: firstly, historical, cultural, political, legal, economic principles, and traditions; secondly, the existing structure of providing humanitarian assistance in a specific region and national concepts of humanitarian policy.

Mobile phones have achieved a high rate of penetration and gained great interest in the field of travel behavior studies. However, mobile phone data exploitation for national travel models has only been sporadically studied thus far. This work focuses on one of the most extensive cellular surveys of its kind carried out thus far in the world, which was performed for two years between 2018 and 2019 with the participation of the two largest cellular providers in Israel, as well as leading GPS companies. The large-scale cell phone survey covered half the population using cellphones aged 8+ in Israel and uncovered local and national trip patterns, revealing the structure of nationwide travel demand. The methodology consists of the following steps: (1) plausibility and quality checks for the data of the mobile operators and the GPS data providers; (2) algorithm development for trip detection, home/work location detection, location and time accuracy, and expansion factors; (3) accuracy test of origin–destination matrices at different resolutions, revisions of algorithms, and reproduction of data; and (4) validation of results by comparison to reliable external data sources. The results are characterized by high accuracy and representativeness of demand and indicate a strong correlation between the cellular survey and other reliable sources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Groundwater is a vital source of water for humanity, with up to 50% of global drinking water and 43% of irrigation water being derived from such sources. Quantitative assessment and accounting of groundwater is essential to ensure its sustainable management and use. TopNet-GW is a parsimonious groundwater model that was developed to provide groundwater simulation at national, regional, and local scales across New Zealand. At a national scale, the model can help local government authorities estimate groundwater resource reliability within and between regions. However, as many catchments are ungauged, the model cannot be calibrated to local conditions against observed data. This paper, therefore, describes a method to derive an a priori, reach-scale groundwater model parameter set from national-scale hydrogeological datasets. The parameter set includes coefficients of lateral (kl) and vertical (kr) conductivity and effective aquifer storage (S). When the parameter set was used with the TopNet-GW model in the Wairau catchment in the Marlborough region (South Island, New Zealand), it produced a poor representation of peak river flows but a more accurate representation of low flows (overall NSE 0.64). The model performance decreased in the smaller Opawa catchment (NSE 0.39). It is concluded that the developed a priori parameter set can be used to provide national groundwater modeling capability in ungauged catchments but should be used with caution, and model performance would benefit greatly from local scale calibration. The parameter derivation method is repeatable globally if analogous hydrological and geological information is available and thus provides a basis for the parameterization of groundwater models in ungauged catchments. Theory and method of design in the context of development of modem national design. Problems and tasks in domain of development of leading elaboration directions of modem Ukrainian design and designer education are examined in the article.

This article presents an agent-based travel demand model, where agents react to transport supply across all mobility choices. Long-term choices include mobility tool ownership and work locations. Daily travel patterns are simulated at the individual level by sequentially combining activity frequency, activity durations and destinations as well as a rule-based time-of-day scheduling. A key to success in this novel approach is balancing individual preferences of travelers with system constraints. The model incorporates two types of constraints: 1) capacity constraints of the transport infrastructure. 2) natural time and space constraints during the execution of individual 24-hour day plans. Model results are validated against empirical observations of travel demand in Switzerland. The aim of the article is working out arguments concerning the ways of improving the policies of national scientific and educational space development based on identification and analysis of the main national model of university patenting. In the paper there was made a conclusion that under conditions of existence of the university patenting basic models (institutional, inventor and hybrid ones) for the past 20 years the dynamic changes have been taking place in the countries. Statistical data and those ones in the patent databases not always provide for adequate assessing the activities of universities as of institutions of the knowledge economy, which made it possible to talk about the existence of “Swedish” and “European” paradoxes. Britain and China are the most advanced countries in terms of the development of institutional models on the US example. In Ukraine there has been formed a unique for the European continent institutional model with a high role of individual inventors, which is characterized by negative manifestations. It has been proved that the countries should maintain the dialogue on sectoral priorities of openness of the university research results

Based on the reference to various sources on socio-cultural and socioeconomic problems, the methodology of the Russian national model of socio-economic activity management is conceptualized in the article. As a theoretical basis, the theoretical assumptions of M. Weber's interpretive sociology, the concept of structural-functionalism (R. Merton, T. Parsons, etc.), institutional methodologies, the theory of institutional matrices of S.G. Kirdina, etc. were used. As a social reality, the Russian national model of managing socio-economic activity is explored in the context of the specifics of interaction of basic institutions of power, property and management in the Russian society, within the framework of the study of the prospects for the transformation of world outlook patterns of the national economic culture, etc. It is concluded that that the worldview foundations of the functioning of Russian society and the basic institutions of culture are in constant interaction with leading economic practices. Therefore, the formation of a national socio-economic model is closely dependent on historically conditioned cultural and ideological patterns. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article examines the Chinese model of "soft power" and its transformation in modern conditions. the author reveals cultural recourses of the PRC's "soft power" construction and mechanisms of its implementation. Internal and external practices of the Chinese "soft power" are a part of the PRC's cultural strategy. the author predicts further expansion of China's "soft power" and the space of its cultural-civilizational influence that should be considered in the development of modern Russian-Chinese relations.

The limited spatial coverage of the air pollution data available from regulatory air quality monitoring networks hampers national-scale epidemiological studies of air pollution. The present study aimed to develop a national-scale exposure prediction model for estimating annual average concentrations of PM 10 and NO 2 at residences in South Korea using regulatory monitoring data for 2010. Using hourly measurements of PM 10 and NO 2 at 277 regulatory monitoring sites, we calculated the annual average concentrations at each site. We also computed 322 geographic variables in order to represent plausible local and regional pollution sources. Using these data, we developed universal kriging models, including three summary predictors estimated by partial least squares (PLS). The model performance was evaluated with fivefold cross-validation. In sensitivity analyses, we compared our approach with two alternative approaches, which added regional interactions and replaced the PLS predictors with up to ten selected variables. Finally, we predicted the annual average concentrations of PM 10 and NO 2 at 83,463 centroids of residential census output areas in South Korea to investigate the population exposure to these pollutants and to compare the exposure levels between monitored and unmonitored areas. The means of the annual average concentrations of PM 10 and NO 2 for 2010, across regulatory monitoring sites in South Korea, were 51.63 μg/m3 (SD = 8.58) and 25.64 ppb (11.05), respectively. The universal kriging exposure prediction models yielded cross-validated R 2 s of 0.45 and 0.82 for PM 10 and NO 2 , respectively. Compared to our model, the two alternative approaches gave consistent or worse performances. Population exposure levels in unmonitored areas were lower than in monitored areas. This is the first study that focused on developing a national-scale point wise exposure prediction approach in South Korea, which will allow national exposure assessments and epidemiological research to answer policy-related questions and to draw comparisons among different countries. Accurate estimation of total nitrogen loads is essential for evaluating conditions in the aquatic environment. Extrapolation of estimates beyond measured streams will greatly expand our understanding of total nitrogen loading to streams. Recursive partitioning and random forest regression were used to assess 85 geospatial, environmental, and watershed variables across 636 small (<585 km) watersheds to determine which variables are fundamentally important to the estimation of annual loads of total nitrogen. Initial analysis led to the splitting of watersheds into three groups based on predominant land use (agricultural, developed, and undeveloped). Nitrogen application, agricultural and developed land area, and impervious or developed land in the 100-m stream buffer were commonly extracted variables by both recursive partitioning and random forest regression. A series of multiple linear regression equations utilizing the extracted variables were created and applied to the watersheds. As few as three variables explained as much as 76 % of the variability in total nitrogen loads for watersheds with predominantly agricultural land use. Catchment-scale national maps were generated to visualize the total nitrogen loads and yields across the USA. The estimates provided by these models can inform water managers and help identify areas where more in-depth monitoring may be beneficial. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Second National School Social Work Survey in 2014 aimed to update knowledge of school social work practice by examining how practitioner characteristics, practice context, and practice choices have evolved since the last national survey in 2008. This second survey was also developed to assess how the new national school social work practice model created by the School Social Work Association of America aligns with early 21st century school social work practice realities. The second survey was conducted from February through April 2014 (3,769 total responses were collected) and represents the largest sample of American school social workers surveyed in two decades. Data from the Second National School Social Work Survey showed a field that still has not fully responded to calls to implement evidenceinformed and data-driven practices. This article notes the need to better integrate pre- and postservice training in data-driven practices and provides recommendations for ways to overcome barriers that school social workers report facing. This article introduces the special issue on the contemporary validity of national models of immigrant integration in Europe. From a historical perspective, we address integration as a sociological concept for the social cohesion of European societies and for the integration of their immigrants; subsequently, we discuss the current ‘crisis’ facing both. We then outline seven country studies in order to compare the differences and similarities of their integration models. Although the importance of national integration has decreased with urban segregation, cultural pluralisation, European integration and globalisation for citizens and immigrants, most of the contributions in this issue show that national models of immigrant integration have not completely failed. Abstract: It is generally acknowledged that water management must be based on an integrated approach, considering the entire freshwater cycle. This has in particularly been endorsed in Europe by the European Water Framework Directive (WFD) imposing integrated management considering all waters. Although not prescribed by the WFD, integrated hydrological modelling may be necessary to support the management according to the directive as also suggested by several research projects initiated by the EU commission. To ensure a coherent and consistent management across various institutions and authorities, having different responsibilities and operating at various scales, a common tool integrating all relevant knowledge and data is imperative. By the end of 2003, a numerical national water resources model was constructed for Denmark, which has been applied in several national assessments. At the regional level there has, however, been some reluctance to use the model, primarily because the model did not contain the most recent data and understanding obtained from detailed local studies. The model has therefore been subject to a comprehensive update focussing on utilising the system understanding from the local studies. This process was largely stakeholder driven by involvement of predominantly the technical staff at the regional water authorities. Local knowledge is continuously improved urging the model update to be an on-going process. Based on experience from the update of the Danish national water resources model, three levels of model updating have been identified: 1) Basic data update – keeping the model up-to-date with respect to input data, 2) improving the model description by including new or more detailed data, and 3) reconstructing the model concept. The three levels vary with respect to technical tasks, challenges and stakeholder involvement. Two utility programs developed to optimise the updating process and support the uptake of data and knowledge from local users are furthermore presented. Finally, some of the challenges in operating a national model with multiple users belonging to different institutions with varying demands are discussed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

France is usually conceived of as an assimilationist country, where national identity is based on principled colour-blind values. The emergence of values running counter to the dominant French model during the 1980s and 1990s has therefore led to the formation of two dominant positions in the literature: advocates of the path-dependent nature of models have refused to acknowledge the existence of structural and durable dissonances with this formal colour blindness à la française, while the epigones of Gunnar Myrdal have only seen a contradiction between formal colour-blind principles and the actual treatment of minority groups in France, described in terms of a ‘French dilemma’. Both positions are unsatisfying insofar as they fail properly to articulate the co-existence of, on the one hand, principles of colour blindness that have saturated public discourses in France over the last 30 years and, on the other, the no less omnipresent framing of French citizens with postcolonial immigrant origins in public and political discourses in racial and ethnic terms. To overcome this difficulty, Bertossi suggests we look at the mutually supportive relationship between colour blindness and the culturalization of French citizenship, and examine how the performative effects of the French colour-blind model have produced a framing of membership and identities in ethnic and racial terms in contemporary France. This analysis focuses on two different settings in which these effects can be observed: first, the official narrative on French citizenship, as provided by a series of public reports on immigrant integration published over the last three decades; second, the negotiations on ethnic and racial diversity in the French military after the end of conscription in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Abstract: The Swiss federal government has asked the IVT, ETH Zürich in collaboration with the TU Dresden and Emch+Berger, Zürich to estimate origin–destination matrices by mode and purpose for the year 2000. The complex zoning system employing about 3000 zones required an algorithm which is fast, but also able to face generation, distribution and mode choice simultaneously. The EVA algorithm developed by Lohse et al. [Lohse, D., Teichert, H., Dugge, B., Bachner, G., 1997. Ermittlung von Verkehrsströmen mit n-linearen Gleichungssystemen unter Beachtung von Nebenbedingungen einschließlich Parameterschätzung (Verkehrsnachfragemodellierung: Erzeugung, Verteilung, Aufteilung). Schriftenreihe des Instituts für Verkehrsplanung und Straßenverkehr, H. 5/1997, Fakultät Verkehrswissenschaften “Friedrich List”, Technische Universität Dresden] was adapted for this purpose. The key properties of the algorithm are a disaggregate description of the demand, and its use of appropriate logit-type models for the demand distribution, while maintaining the known marginal distributions of the matrices generated. The algorithm calculates trip production and attractions by zone using activity pairs. The combined destination and mode choice models are estimated for the different traveller types and activity pairs. The paper derives and describes for the first time the EVA algorithm in English, including the solution method used. Second, it summarises the results of choice model estimation providing generalised cost elasticities of demand by purpose and traveller type. This paper describes the modelling of variables usually treated as exogenous parameters in regional simulation models, and identifies the areas where those variables are particularly important. A multi regional approach allows the direct modelling of interregional migration, unemployment differentials, and industrial growth changes; the paper describes the equations involved and discusses a multiregional model for Great Britain. Results from initial experimentation with the model are presented, and its ability to replicate real data is tested. The model permits the incorporation of policy decisions and programmes; simulation results show the application of a development area policy and a migration assist ance programme.
