High hollow nylon filaments are normally applied to sportswear garments. The high hollow nylon filament is usually made of a sheath/core type nylon/PET(Poly Ethylene Telephthalate) composite yarn by conjugated spinning. This study examined the spinning and elution characteristics of sheath/core nylon/PET composite filaments according to the caustic reduction conditions, and the fabric mechanical properties that affect the fabric hand after elution were analyzed according to the elution conditions. In addition, hand and physical properties of nylon high hollow fabrics in relation to the elution characteristics were predicted. The elution rate increased with increasing elution time and temperature, and complete elution was observed at a treatment time of 40, 50, 60 min, and a temperature of 110 ℃ at a NaOH concentration of 40 g/l. The hand value of the high hollow fabric treated at an elution temperature of 110 ℃ for 40 min showed the best tactile property, and this elution condition was considered to be the optimum. A high hollowness ratio of 39.5% was achieved under the elution conditions of 40 min and 110 ℃. Good quality high hollow fabric was observed as the washing fastness, 4-5 grade and pilling 4–5 grade under the elution conditions of 110 ℃ and 40 min. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

A method for measuring the impedance matrix and the dynamic properties of a liquid-filled flexible hose is described in this paper. Dynamic hose properties are presented for a wide range of hose types. Nylon-reinforced hoses are shown to have considerably lower bulk moduli and stiffnesses than steel-reinforced hoses. The dynamic bulk moduli and stiffnesses are shown to be significantly and consistently higher than the static values. These results may be used to give an estimate of representative properties for a hose, based on its maximum pressure rating and its type of reinforcement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents a study which aims to clarify experimentally shadow effect of shadow-type pantyhose available on the market in Japan. The pantyhose used in the experiments are those of beige color with a shadow part, whose center of both sides is deeper beige than other part. The shadow aims to present legs of wearers thinner, straight and more aesthetically. The authors have examined the shadow effect by visual survey and optical experiments in comparison with the shadow effect of shadow-type pantyhose and that of ordinary pantyhose without a shadow part. From the results, it is confirmed that the shadow-type pantyhose with normal and deeper beige color is effective, but those of pale beige color is not effective.

False-twist-textured yarns are twist-lively, as are inadequately set or inadequately stress-relaxed twisted staple-fibre or continuous-filament yarns. Because twist liveliness gives a snarling tendency in yarns and leads to spirality in plain-knitted fabrics, it is usually regarded as a negative property. Measurement of twist liveliness or residual torque in a yarn has been considered for a long time, hut it has been customary to assess twist liveliness by indirect methods. Some methods for the direct measurement of yarn-torque level have been described in the literature, but no quantitative data on yarn-torque levels are available, in this paper, a direct and objective method for the measurement of yarn torque, using yarns wound into a bank, is described. We report herein a woman sensitive to nylon stockings of only brown or tan shade. Her situation is interesting for several reasons: she does not react to paraphenylediamine and she reacts to red and yellow dyes, but not to blue or the finish; however, when finish is applied to dyed blanks (red, yellow, or blue) she reacts vigorously to all three. The article cites a study on the fine textured nylon hosiery yarns with relatively few filaments which found that counting the surface filaments along a measured length of yarn and around the circumference is an accurate method in identifying the twist. As stated in the article, it is difficult to determine the yarn twist from the process parameters when filament yarns of nylon or polyester will be textured or draw-textured by the false-twist method because there is no direct and simple relation between the rate of rotation of friction twisting devices and twisting rate of yarn being processed. These testing problems are caused by the fineness of the yarns and extreme fineness of their filaments.

The article discusses a report by Bentley Machinery on trial runs using the new Sandoz aqueous Sancowad foam dyeing process. The trails conducted on Orion 42/nylon hosiery produced 88% savings in water consumption and 68.6% savings in time for prebulking, dyeing, extracting and drying, and a 90% savings in time of handling the hosiery. The machine used for the trail was manufactured by Samuel Pegg and Son Ltd. A chart comparing the new Sancowad process with the conventional process is also presented.
