Background: Gonococcal ocular lesions develop most commonly due to poor hygiene habits, when the infection is transmitted by eye-hand contact; in addition, they may develop when the infection is transported to the eye as a result of hematogenous or lymphogenous spread. Purpose: To present a rare case of endophthalmitis secondary to gonococcal sepsis, and to highlight its clinical features. Material and Methods: Visual acuity assessment, comprehensive eye examination, and microbiological examination. Results: Patient’s history was significant for acute suppurative gonococcal prostatitis (with acute retention of urine, and severe sepsis with liver abscess, and suppurative tonsillitis), for which he had been treated as an in-patient at the Department of Urology of the city hospital. In addition, he had suppurative blepharitis of the left eye. A week after he was discharged from the Department of Urology, he was hospitalized to the Department of Ocular Trauma of the Filatov institute with the diagnosis of endophthalmitis in the left eye. The patient poorly responded to treatment, and clinical manifestations of endophthalmitis were becoming more and more severe. He underwent evisceration of the left eye. Conclusion: Consultations of allied health professionals and multiprofessional management of gonorrhea patients are required to prevent complications in various organs and systems, should gonococcal sepsis develop.

Background: Delays in the diagnosis of a ferrous intraocular foreign body (IOFB) have been shown to result in ocular sinerosis and subsequent loss of visual function. Purpose: To report a case of a missed ferrous IOFB with subsequent apparent ocular siderosis, visual loss and severe complications. Material and Methods: Visual acuity assessment and comprehensive eye examination were performed, and an X-ray of the eye and orbit taken. Results: A 25 year-old male patient had a history of hammer-and-chisel (metal-related) injury to the right eye and was treated conservatively. A year after the traumatic event, the eye had phacoemulsification with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation at a local clinic. Two years thereafter, the patient presented to the Filatov institute, and was diagnosed with grade 3 ocular siderosis, artifakia and rhegmatogenous retinal detachment OD. During pars plana vitrectomy, a preretinal IOFB was found and removed. Four months thereafter, the patient was re-hospitalized and received a repeat pars plana vitrectomy and 5700-cSt silicone oil tamponade of the vitreous cavity for retinal re-detachment OD. At discharge, the ophthalmoscopy and ultrasound examination showed a re-attached retina. Conclusion: The reported case of missed IOFB highlights the importance of early diagnosis and removal of IOFB to prevent siderosis and subsequent serious complications.

Photometric behavior of the active red dwarf PZ Mori (K2e) is studied using UBVRI obser­vations obtained with 1.25 m telescope of the SRI "Crimean Astrophysical Observatory" in 1992-2004 and V-data from the ASAS catalogue obtained in 2000­2006. Frequency analysis of the full V-data and colors has shown the existence of close periods – 2429d and 2500 d, respectively. Supposing that the star's surface is covered by spots a long-term variability can be ex­plained as changes of stellar activity during 6.5 years. After subtraction of slow periodicity some periods in the range of 15 d - 56 d with amplitudes more than 4a were found. Period P = 34d found as at the whole in­terval of observations as at the short selected intervals is likely close to the rotation period of the star. Steady-phase of this period indicates the existence of an active longitude where spots are generated.

Relation between duration of cycles of photospheric activity and stellar rotation are considered here for samples of dKe-dMe stars and compared with similar ones for solar-like stars. Fast and slowly rotating stars shown two sequences on the diagram. Cycle length of slowly rotating stars is close to solar and not depend on rotation, but red dwarfs with Prot < 5d show tendency to increasing of cycle time with faster rotation. Activity of fast rotating K and M dwarfs are more higher as well on photospheric level as coronal region.

Measurements of brightness of 29 red dwarf stars and 3 stars of other types were made on time scales of 5 - 90 years using plates archives of Sternberg State Astronomical Institute (Moscow), Astronomical Observatory of Odessa State University and Sonneberg Observatory (Germany). The sensitivity of plates are close to B band. The long- term changes in yearly mean magnitude have been detected or suspected for 10 dKe-dMe objects. Two stars, V833 Tau and PZ Mon, show high amplitude of variability up to 0.6 - 1.0 mag. The range of variability in mean light of the other eight stars is of 0.2 - 0.5 mag. The light curves show typical times of long-term variability of about 30-60 years. Changes of the mean light of the remained dKe-dMe stars and three other stars of other types - FK Com, V654 Her, AE Aqr - do not exceed 0.2 mag. Photometric and spectroscopic features of eclipsing binary system BM Ori can be described well by a model in which the components are the primary star B3 ZAMS, the secondary F2 pre-main sequence star and a dusty envelope of large grains around the secondary. The eclipse on ingress and egress phases has been produced by a dust envelope only, but during the total phase the F2 star makes yet the partial eclipse. Eclipsing binaries in which the major puzzle is a nature of an eclipsing body are considered. Some parameters indicate that candidates to relative objects to BM Ori can be ε Aur, TY CrA, ϑ1 Ori A and variable stars in multiple systems.

Hipparcos data (ESA 1997) give for PZ Mon a parallax π = 0.71 +- 1.17 mas that is not in agreement with earlier estimations of distance to the star of 15-30 ps and with its status of K- dwarf. There are presented spectra of PZ Mon in the region 3750-6150 Α with resolution of 7 ≈ Α, which were carried out in the Nasmith focus of 2.6 m reflector in the Crimean Astrophysical observatory. Intensities of molecular absorptions in this spectral range are determined relative a nearby continuum and their relations between absolute magnitudes are considered. The calculated Mν =6.74 and r=29 ps correspond to an earlier classiffication of PZ Mon as a red dwarf.
