Background: Manual visual inspection and analysis of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals of patients are susceptible to the subjective influence of doctors. The introduction of GA-PSO improved the categorization accuracy of both the EP (Evoked potential) and normal groups by automatically screening and optimizing the best feature combination of brain networks. Therefore, selecting effective EEG features for automatic recognition of EP is particularly important for Neuroscience.New method: A phase synchronization index (PSI) brain stimulation is constructed from multi-channel EEG signals, extracting 15 topological features from the perspectives of network nodes and structural functions. In order to optimize and screen feature combinations in both single and cross-frequency bands, the GA-PSO algorithm is utilized as a feature selection tool for choosing epileptic EEG network features.Result: Feature combinations are made both within and between bands, and the optimal feature mix is found using the PSO and GA-PSO algorithms. The study found that the GA-PSO algorithm outperformed the PSO algorithm, achieving a higher EP recognition accuracy of 0.9335 under cross-frequency band conditions.Comparison with existing methods: The results indicate that the introduction of the genetic algorithm enables the GA-PSO algorithm to maintain population diversity and avoid premature convergence to local optima, thereby enhancing the search capabilities of the population.Conclusion: Based on the findings, topological aspects provide a good way to describe the anomalies in the brain networks of epileptic patients and enhance the classification accuracy through combination, which provides help for pathological research and clinical diagnosis of epilepsy.

Context: Gastric cancer is one of the most prevalent types of cancer in developing countries and ranks fourth in terms of death causes. Helicobacter pylori infection is a significant contributor to the emergence of gastric cancer. Lack of early diagnosis of gastric cancer is a leading cause of death. Aims: To identify the key genes and pathways involved in gastric cancer. Methods: This study performed a comprehensive analysis of RNA-Seq data from human gastric cancer and adjacent normal tissues. Raw data passed quality checks with FastQC and were aligned to GRCh38 using HISAT2. Subread’s FeatureCounts handled transcript assembly and quantification. DESeq2 pinpointed significant genes, while ClueGO explored gene ontology and KEGG pathways. Protein-protein interaction networks, constructed with StringApp, aided in identifying hub genes through CytoHubba. This holistic approach yields insights into the molecular mechanisms underpinning gastric cancer. Results: This study detected 711 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between normal and gastric samples. A total of 594 genes were identified as upregulated and 117 as downregulated. Major DEGs are enriched in signal transduction, stimulus-response regulation, transmembrane signaling receptor activity, and signal transduction pathways involving cytokines. In addition, 20 hub genes from the PPI network were identified based on MCC rank analysis from the CytoHubba plugin, contributing to the progression of gastric cancer. Conclusions: The top six hub genes, CD4, CTLA4, CD28, CD80, CD27, and SELL, are expected to regulate several pathways and may serve as potential biomarkers for the early detection and treatment of gastric cancer patients.

Purpose – Leaders today are continuously seeking models to navigate through the challenges posed by the pandemic times, so as to help the organizations flourish in the volatile business environment. This paper attempts to explore the alignment of insights drawn from the ancient Indian scripture, the Bhagavad Gita, with today’s leadership requirements, towards the betterment of both the leaders and organizations. Design/methodology/approach – A qualitative approach with thematic analysis is used to identify leadership qualities pertinent in difficult times through interviews with 15 employees at leadership positions. It establishes the alignment of the qualities with the sapient advice from the Holy Scripture, maneuvered by today’s leaders to become more purposeful and impactful. Findings – The discernments from the Bhagavad Gita holistically entwine the emotional, intellectual and spiritual aspects of resilient leaders and provide guidance on the leaders’ attitude towards work, behaviour and self management, to help steer through the challenging environment. With turbulent changes during the COVID-19 pandemic, conventional leadership skills would be outmoded, and hence the leaders need to strengthen the critical shifts in their own established sets of attitudes as well as that of their workforce. Originality/value – Under the changing work environment, while the new leadership narrative of the world beyond takes shape, this study delves both into ancient Indian wisdom and current opinion to identify a template of workable practices that would differentiate extraordinary leaders from the rest.

Background: Placement of dental implant in narrow alveolar ridge is challenging to be treated. GBR procedure is currently most widely used to augment the deficient alveolar ridges and to treat the fenestration and dehiscence around dental implant. Thus, the objectives of the present study were to evaluate as well as compare the clinical performance of collagen membrane and titanium mesh for horizontal bone augmentation at dehisced implant sites. Methods and material: Total 12 single edentulous implant sites with buccal bone deficiency in 8 subjects were equally divided and treated simultaneously with either of the two membranes and DBBM(Bio-Oss) bone graft. Primary outcome measurements in terms of defect height and defect width were made using calibrated plastic periodontal probe. Re-entry surgery was performed to remeasure augmented site and to remove Ti-mesh at 6th months. Independent paired t-test for the inter-group comparison and student paired t-test for intra-group comparison were performed. The differences were considered to be significant at p ≤ 0.05. Results: Mean defect fill with respect to height and width was 3.50 ± 0.54 mm (87%) and 2.33 ± 0.51 mm (82%) for collagen membrane and 3.83 ± 0.75 mm (92%) and 2.50 ± 0.54 mm (88%) for Ti-mesh group respectively. Conclusions: Within the limitation of the study, it was concluded that mean defect height and width after 6 months were statistically significant within the group without significant difference between them, Although defect resolution was better in Ti-mesh.

Objectives: Conventional probes (CPs) have been considered acceptable as diagnostic tools to measure probing pocket depth (PPD) and clinical attachment level (CAL) but are affected by multiple variables. Electronic probes (EPs) provide controlled force, digital readout and data storage in computers. The objectives were to compare the reproducibility in the measurement of PPD and CAL by CP and the newly introduced CEJ handpiece of EP and intra-examiner and inter-examiner errors done in two phases. Methods and Material: Selected 720 periodontal sites in 1st molar of 30 persons with chronic periodontitis ≤4 mm and >4 mm pockets were analysed by two trained investigators in two phases at 2 hours difference by CP and CEJ handpiece of EP. Standard deviation, mean difference, correlation coefficient, P value and student 't' test were done to analyse data. Results: The intra- examiner and inter-examiner analyses revealed that Pearson's correlation coefficient was above 0.080 and 0.722 in the ≤4 mm and >4 mm pockets, respectively. Mean difference was not statistically significant in both groups except in the intra- examiner findings in the 2nd phase. Interprobe analysis depicted a standard error of mean of 4 mm pockets. Conclusion: In conclusion, EP is advantageous for research purposes by providing automatic recording and long-term maintenance of data storage without the need of an assistant and patient education and motivation, whereas CP appears to be more useful in routine periodontal examination.

Ethnopharmacological relevance: The genus Alternanthera (Amaranthaceae) comprises 139 species including 14 species used traditionally for the treatment of various ailments such as hypertension, pain, inflammation, diabetes, cancer, microbial and mental disorders.Aim of the review: To search research gaps through critical assessment of pharmacological activities not performed to validate traditional claims of various species of Alternanthera. This review will aid natural product researchers in identifying Alternanthera species with therapeutic potential for future investigation.Materials and methods: Scattered raw data on ethnopharmacological, morphological, phytochemical, pharmacological, toxicological, and clinical studies of various species of the genus Alternanthera have been compiled utilizing search engines like SciFinder, Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, and Open J-Gate for 100 years up to April 2021.Results: Few species of Alternanthera genus have been exhaustively investigated phytochemically, and about 129 chemical constituents related to different classes such as flavonoids, steroids, saponins, alkaloids, triterpenoids, glycosides, and phenolic compounds have been isolated from 9 species. Anticancer, antioxidant, antibacterial, CNS depressive, antidiabetic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulator effects have been explored in the twelve species of the genus. A toxicity study has been conducted on 3 species and a clinical study on 2 species.Conclusions: The available literature on pharmacological studies of Alternanthera species reveals that few species have been selected based on ethnobotanical surveys for scientific validation of their traditional claims. But most of these studies have been conducted on uncharacterized and non-standardized crude extracts. A roadmap of research needs to be developed for the isolation of new bioactive compounds from Alternanthera species, which can emerge out as clinically potential medicines.

Plant pathology has been revolutionized by the emergence and intervention of next-generation sequencing technologies (NGS) which provide a fast, cost-effective, and reliable diagnostic for any class of pathogens. NGS has made tremendous advancements in the area of research and diagnostics of plant infecting viromes and has bridged plant virology with other advanced research fields like genome editing technologies. NGS in a broader perspective holds the potential for plant health improvement by diagnosing and mitigating the new or unusual symptoms caused by novel/unidentified viruses. CRISPR-based genome editing technologies can enable rapid engineering of efficient viral/viroid resistance by directly targeting specific nucleotide sites of plant viruses and viroids. Critical genes such as eIf (iso) 4E or eIF4E have been targeted via the CRISPR platform to produce plants resistant to single-stranded RNA (ssRNA) viruses. CRISPR/Cas-based multi-target DNA or RNA tests can be used for rapid and accurate diagnostic assays for plant viruses and viroids. Integrating NGS with CRISPR-based genome editing technologies may lead to a paradigm shift in combating deadly disease-causing plant viruses/viroids at the genomic level. Furthermore, the newly discovered CRISPR/Cas13 system has unprecedented potential in plant viroid diagnostics and interference. In this review, we have highlighted the application and importance of sequencing technologies on covering the viral genomes for precise modulations. This review also provides a snapshot vision of emerging developments in NGS technologies for the characterization of plant viruses and their potential utilities, advantages, and limitations in plant viral diagnostics. Furthermore, some of the notable advances like novel virus-inducible CRISPR/Cas9 system that confers virus resistance with no off-target effects have been discussed.

More than 70% of our planet is covered by extremely cold environments, nourishing a broad diversity of microbial life. Temperature is the most significant parameter that plays a key role in the distribution of microorganisms on our planet. Psychrophilic microorganisms are the most prominent inhabitants of the cold ecosystems, and they possess potential cold-active enzymes with diverse uses in the research and commercial sectors. Psychrophiles are modified to nurture, replicate, and retain their active metabolic activities in low temperatures. Their enzymes possess characteristics of maximal activity at low to adequate temperatures; this feature makes them more appealing and attractive in biotechnology. The high enzymatic activity of psychrozymes at low temperatures implies an important feature for energy saving. These enzymes have proven more advantageous than their mesophilic and thermophilic counterparts. Therefore, it is very important to explore the efficiency and utility of different psychrozymes in food processing, pharmaceuticals, brewing, bioremediation, and molecular biology. In this review, we focused on the properties of cold-active enzymes and their diverse uses in different industries and research areas. This review will provide insight into the areas and characteristics to be improved in cold-active enzymes so that potential and desired enzymes can be made available for commercial purposes.

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a chronic allergen specific, IgE-mediated hypersensitivity disorder which significantly impairs the quality of life in affected patients. Many aeroallergens and molds are responsible for AR. This study was conducted to find prevalence of Aspergillus fumigatus skin hypersensitivity in patients of AR by skin prick test (SPT). 150 clinically diagnosed AR patients visiting our OPD were enrolled. Skin hypersensitivity for Aspergillus f. was done by SPT in all the enrolled patients. Chi square test and Student’s t-test were applied for statistical analysis. Out of 150 patients, 60 (40%) were positive for Aspergillus fumigatus SPT. Majority of the positive patients had persistent AR and among those 39/60 (65%) had moderate to severe persistent AR and 12/60 (20%) had mild persistent AR. Our study concluded that there is high (40%) prevalence of Aspergillus f. skin hypersensitivity among AR patients. The hypersensitivity to Aspergillus f. was found more in severe AR patients and it was statistically significant.

The introduction of selective COX-2 inhibitors (so-called ‘coxibs’) has demonstrated tremendous commercial success due to their claimed lower potential of serious gastrointestinal adverse effects than traditional NSAIDs. However, following the repeated questioning on safety concerns, the coxibs ‘controversial me-too’ saga increased substantially, inferring to the risk of cardiovascular complications, subsequently leading to the voluntary withdrawal of coxibs (e.g., rofecoxib and valdecoxib) from the market. For instance, the makers (Pfizer and Merck) had to allegedly settle individual claims of cardiovascular hazards from celecoxib and valdecoxib. Undoubtedly, the lessons drawn from this saga revealed the flaws in drug surveillance and regulation, and taught science to pursue a more integrated translational approach for data acquisition and interpretation, prompting science-based strategies of risk avoidance in order to sustain the value of such drugs, rather than their withdrawal. Looking forward, coxibs are now being studied for repurposing, given their possible implications in the management of a myriad of diseases, including cancer, epilepsy, psychiatric disorders, obesity, Alzheimer’s disease, and so on. This article briefly summarizes the development of COX-2 inhibitors to their market impression, followed by the controversy related to their toxicity. In addition, the events recollected in hindsight (the past lessons), the optimistic step towards drug repurposing (the present), and the potential for forthcoming success (the future) are also discussed.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) binds to the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor and invade the human cells to cause COVID-19-related pneumonia. Despite an emphasis on respiratory complications, the evidence of neurological manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 infection is rapidly growing, which is substantially contributing to morbidity and mortality. The neurological disorders associated with COVID-19 may have several pathophysiological underpinnings, which are yet to be explored. Hypothetically, SARS-CoV-2 may affect the central nervous system (CNS) either by direct mechanisms like neuronal retrograde dissemination and hematogenous dissemination, or via indirect pathways. CNS complications associated with COVID-19 include encephalitis, acute necrotizing encephalopathy, diffuse leukoencephalopathy, stroke (both ischemic and hemorrhagic), venous sinus thrombosis, meningitis, and neuroleptic malignant syndrome. These may result from different mechanisms, including direct virus infection of the CNS, virus-induced hyper-inflammatory states, and post-infection immune responses. On the other hand, the Guillain-Barre syndrome, hyposmia, hypogeusia, and myopathy are the outcomes of peripheral nervous system injury. Although the therapeutic potential of certain repurposed drugs has led to their off-label use against COVID-19, such as anti-retroviral drugs (remdesivir, favipiravir, and lopinavir-ritonavir combination), biologics (tocilizumab), antibiotics (azithromycin), antiparasitics (chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine), and corticosteroids (dexamethasone), unfortunately, the associated clinical neuropsychiatric adverse events remains a critical issue. Therefore, COVID-19 represents a major threat to the field of neuropsychiatry, as both the virus and the potential therapies may induce neurologic as well as psychiatric disorders. Notably, potential COVID-19 medications may also interact with the medications of pre-existing neuropsychiatric diseases, thereby further complicating the condition. From this perspective, this review will discuss the possible neurological manifestations and sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection with emphasis on the probable underlying neurotropic mechanisms. Additionally, we will highlight the concurrence of COVID-19 treatment-associated neuropsychiatric events and possible clinically relevant drug interactions, to provide a useful framework and help researchers, especially the neurologists in understanding the neurologic facets of the ongoing pandemic to control the morbidity and mortality.

Background: This study aimed to formulate and characterize in-situ gel containing levofloxacin and metronidazole to release drugs in controlled manner for treatment of periodontitis. Material and Methods: Medicated in-situ gel with levofloxacin (10% w/v), metronidazole (25% w/v) and vehicle in-situ gel without drugs having poloxamer 407 (20% w/v) and chitosan (0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2.0% 2.5% w/v) were prepared and characterized for physicochemical, mechanical properties, stability and in-vitro drug release. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetery studies were done. Optimized formulation was evaluated by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and in-vitro antimicrobial activity against 5 bacterial strains. Results: The results revealed that drugs and polymers were compatible to formulate. All formulations were light yellow, clear and syringeable except formulation having 2.5% w/v chitosan. pH was in the range of 6.20 to 6.74. 1.0% w/v and 1.5% w/v chitosan formulations showed gelation temperature 37 ± 0.32 °C and 34 ± 0.21 °C. Further, mucoadhesive strength indicated mucoadhesivity of gel. In-vitro release study of 1.5% w/v chitosan formulation showed initial burst where about 55–60% MZ and 60–70% LVF got released within 6–7 hrs followed by sustained release upto 48 hrs. SEM images of 1.5% w/v chitosan optimized medicated in-situ and vehicle in-situ gel appeared similar indicating homogeneous mixing of polymers with drugs. In-vitro antimicrobial study showed that medicated in-situ gel was more effective than vehicle. Conclusions: In conclusion, optimized 1.5% w/v chitosan in-situ gel was thermoresponsive, mucoadhesive, syringeable, and released drugs in slow and controlled manner with effectiveness against broad range of microbes.

Presumptive pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) patients whose sputum are detected to be smear negative for acid fast bacilli (AFB) present a significant challenge for a treating physician. Initiating these patients on anti tuberculous treatment (ATT) on empirical basis is not a good strategy as many were found to be sputum culture for tuberculosis negative on further evaluation according to many previous studies. In India due to resource limited settings and lack of knowledge about newest diagnostic modalities patients are often initiated only on the basis of characteristic clinical symptoms and chest radiographic abnormalities. This study was conducted to identify the advantage of application of sputum cartridge based nucleic acid amplification test (CBNAAT) in sputum AFB smear negative presumptive pulmonary TB patients. Our study concluded that clinical symptoms and radiological characteristics cannot differentiate TB patients from non-TB patients. Treating patients only on empirical basis would have resulted in unnecessary treatment of 41 patients.

Background: The objectives of the present study were to establish transgingival probing as an evaluating method in the clinical studies of periodontal regenerative techniques and to compare the effectiveness of transgingival probing to the surgical entry. Materials and Methods: Ten systemically healthy persons (20–50 years) with moderate to severe chronic periodontitis participated in this study. These cases were recruited into the study only when they fulfilled the eligibility criteria. Vertical probing depth (VPD) and horizontal probing depth (HPD) of furcation defects were measured with and without opening the flap, following local anesthesia during initial surgery and at 6 months after collagen membrane placement. The defect fill (DF) was also noted. The mean measurements of clinical parameters were compared by two-tailed paired t-test at 5% level of significance. Results: The difference between the measurements of VPD and HPD taken during transgingival probing and after opening the flap was lie in the range of 0.10–0.30 mm at the time of initial surgery and 6 months after surgery that was not statistically significant. Persons experienced slight discomfort or pain during opening the flap as compared to transgingival probing, and this method was also appreciated by the patients as it is easy, simple and does not involve the surgical procedure. Conclusion: The results of the study suggest that measurements recorded during transgingival probing and after opening the flap do not influence the required outcome of regenerative therapies, i.e., DF that was not statistically significant difference from surgical reentry. Therefore, it was concluded that transgingival probing could be used as evaluating parameters to see the outcome of regenerative surgeries and the surgical reentry procedure may be avoided because it is a second surgical procedure, time-consuming and interrupts the healing process.

Background: The periodontal diseases are the most prevalent oral diseases worldwide especially in developing countries like India. The objective of this cross-sectional survey was to determine the prevalence of periodontal diseases and treatment needs (TNs) in a hospital-based population. Materials and Methods: Totally, 500 men and women (15-74 years) were recruited and periodontal status of each study subject and sextant was evaluated on the basis of community periodontal index of TNs, and thereafter TN for each subject and sextant was categorized on the basis of the highest code recorded during the examination. Results: A total of 500 subjects (59% males and 41% females) was divided into seven age groups, that is, 15-19, 20-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, and 65-74 years and sextants were included from the 486 subjects. Healthy periodontium, bleeding on probing, calculus, shallow pockets, and deep pockets were found in 3.9%, 6.58%, 50.61%, 20.98%, and 17.90% subjects, respectively. Males were more affected with shallow and deep pockets as compared to females. Periodontal diseases in the early stages were more prevalent in the younger age groups, whereas advanced stages were more prevalent in older age groups. 17.90% subjects and 11.48% sextants need complex treatment. About 77.98% subjects and 73.15% sextants require either oral hygiene instructions or oral hygiene instructions and oral prophylaxis. Only 3.9% subjects and 15.36% sextants were healthy and needed no treatment. Conclusions: Periodontal diseases were found to be 96.30% in the study population and the results indicate that majority of the population need primary and secondary level of preventive program to reduce the chances of initiation or progression of periodontal diseases thereby improving their systemic health overall.

Bacterial biofilm has been reported to be associated with more than 80% of bacterial infections. Curcumin, a hydrophobic polyphenol compound, has anti-quorum sensing activity apart from having antimicrobial action. However, its use is limited by its poor aqueous solubility and rapid degradation. In this study, we attempted to prepare quantum dots of the drug curcumin in order to achieve enhanced solubility and stability and investigated for its antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity. We utilized a newer two-step bottom up wet milling approach to prepare Curcumin Quantum Dots (CurQDs) using acetone as a primary solvent. Minimum inhibitory concentration against select Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria was performed. The antibiofilm assay was performed at first using 96-well tissue culture plate and subsequently validated by Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy. Further, biofilm matrix protein was isolated using formaldehyde sludge and TCA/Acetone precipitation method. Protein extracted was incubated with varying concentration of CurQDs for 4 h and was subjected to SDS–PAGE. Molecular docking study was performed to observe interaction between curcumin and phenol soluble modulins as well as curli proteins. The biophysical evidences obtained from TEM, SEM, UV-VIS, fluorescence, Raman spectroscopy, and zeta potential analysis confirmed the formation of curcumin quantum dots with increased stability and solubility. The MICs of curcumin quantum dots, as observed against both select gram positive and negative bacterial isolates, was observed to be significantly lower than native curcumin particles. On TCP assay, Curcumin observed to be having antibiofilm as well as biofilm degrading activity. Results of SDS–PAGE and molecular docking have shown interaction between biofilm matrix proteins and curcumin. The results indicate that aqueous solubility and stability of Curcumin can be achieved by preparing its quantum dots. The study also demonstrates that by sizing down the particle size has not only enhanced its antimicrobial properties but it has also shown its antibiofilm activities. Further, study is needed to elucidate the exact nature of interaction between curcumin and biofilm matrix proteins.

Orofacial granulomatosis (OFG) is a rare disorder affecting the orofacial region, and clinically characterized by diffuse, nontender, soft to firm, painless swelling restricted to one or both lips and intraoral sites such as tongue, gingiva and buccal mucosa. Histologically, OFG is characterized by noncaseating granulomatous inflammation. The early diagnosis of OFG is essential for the better prognosis of the lesion. Delay in diagnosis of OFG results into formation of indurated and permanent swelling of the lip that not only compromises esthetic appearance but also causes impairment in function such as speaking and eating. Early diagnosis of OFG is challenging to the health care professionals due to clinical and histological resemblance to other chronic granulomatous disorders. Thus, dentists may act as a first person to diagnose the lesion and play an important role in the multidisciplinary treatment of granulomatous disorders. Here, we present a case of OFG affecting lips and gingiva in a 15-year-old patient without any identifiable systemic or local causes.

The name pseudolipoma of Glisson capsule is used interchangeably with another commonly used term, hepatic pseudolipoma, the prevalence of which, as mentioned by Karhunen is 0.2%.The mean age of occurrence is 67 years. These are fatty masses mainly found on the diaphragmatic aspect of Glisson’s capsule. They are more common in men than in women, and are usually asymptomatic. So, they are only seen at necropsy, or as an incidental finding on radiology or intraoperatively. Macroscopically, these innocent lesions may mimic metastatic carcinoma, and microscopically they must be distinguished from true hepatic lipomas, parasites (hydatid cysts) or solitary sub capsular necrotic nodule. We report a case of idiopathic pyloric stenosis, with an incidental finding of a calcified lesion in liver on CT scan, which was differentially diagnosed as calcified hydatid cyst or calcified old abscess by the radiologist. On microscopy, the lesion was diagnosed as pseudolipoma of the Glisson’s capsule.

Papillary carcinoma of the uterine cervix with features reminiscent of Transitional Cell Carcinoma (TCC) of urothelial origin, is a poorly recognized subtype of cervical carcinoma. This tumour has a propensity for late metastasis and local recurrence, in spite of the fact that histologically it could be misinterpreted as CIN grade III with a papillary configuration or as a squamous cell papilloma. This tumour occurs mainly in post-menopausal females, it is potentially aggressive and it presents at a more advanced stage. Here, we are presenting a case of a 65-year-old female who presented with post-menopausal bleeding and pelvic pain, and underwent hysterectomy for pyometra. The cervix showed a focus of papillary transitional carcinoma.

In this work, a concept of negative capacitance hybrid CMOS (NCHCMOS) is presented which consists of p-NCGeOIFET (NC germanium-on-insulator FET) and n-NCSiGeOIFET (NC SiGe-on-insulator FET). Both devices have been simulated by using respective calibrated TCAD models with Landau–Khalatnikov equation. The enhanced performance of both devices due to NC effect has been shown in terms of improved barrier and subsequently reduced leakage current (by 2 orders). The max gain of Ge and SiGe NCFETs has been found to be 1.64 and 1.56 (i.e. >1) respectively which is manifested in reduced subthreshold swing values. Results have also shown that the NC of ferroelectric material attributes to very high gate capacitance which is further responsible for enormous increase in on-state current (170% in p-NCGeOIFET and 103% in n-NCSiGeOIFET). Further, to investigate the performance of these devices in low power/low voltage applications, static and transient characteristics of NCHCMOS based gates and circuit have been obtained. It has been shown that NCHCMOS gives improved circuit performance in terms of high noise margin, reduced rise and fall time, less propagation delay, and reduced power and energy dissipation as compared to HCMOS. It is also displayed that NCHCMOS exhibits very less values (approximately by an order or 2) of energy-delay-product in respect to HCMOS and provides energy efficient operation. In this paper, a novel device concept has been presented which integrates ferroelectric gate insulator on SiGe-On-insulator (SGOI) substrate. An analytical subthreshold current model for ferroelectric SGOI field effect transistor (FSGOIFET) has been developed by using 2D Poisson’s equation and Landau–Khalatnikov equation. The explicit expressions for threshold voltage and subthreshold current have been obtained by extending the electrostatic potential model. The other important device parameters such as drain induced barrier lowering, threshold voltage roll-off, subthreshold swing etc have been obtained to quantitatively study the performance of FSGOIFET at shorter channel length. The merits of ferroelectric gate insulator have been demonstrated by comparing all device characteristics of FSGOIFET with those obtained for SGOIFET. An excellent fit of analytical results with simulation results obtained from Silvaco ATLAS TCAD has corroborated the accuracy of the presented model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
