The Deaths in Custody Act was recently expanded to require all states to collect data on deaths which occur while in law enforcement custody. Traditionally, use of force data are collected from law enforcement agencies. This research utilized a different approach: county coroners were contacted and interviewed to collect data on deaths which occurred while in the custody of law enforcement. The methods, logic, and findings of this research are discussed as well as the efficacy of incorporating county coroners in data collection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
