Beginning in the 1960’s, Denmark recruited Turkish guest workers. Today, the Turkish minority is Denmark’s largest minority group from non-western countries. This article examines the social challenges of the Turkish minority in Denmark from 1970 to 2021, and their integration during this period. This study uses several methods to obtain insight into the integration process of Turkish immigrants over three generations in Denmark and the challenges they faced and continue to face. In addition to the source criticism and a comprehensive literature review, this study uses qualitative and quantitative methods to understand Turkish immigrants’ immigration processes. Qualitative and quantitative analysis in the field of Danish historical research, specifically the area concerning the Turkish minority are not adequately covered by the existing literature. This study finds that all three generations of the Turkish minority in Denmark experienced social challenges in several areas that are related to each other, and these social challenges have an effect on their integration status. Some social challenges have decreased over generations but specifically discrimination and racism have not.

SETD2, a H3K36 trimethyltransferase, is the most frequently mutated epigenetic modifier in lung adenocarcinoma, with a mutation frequency of approximately 9%. However, how SETD2 loss of function promotes tumorigenesis remains unclear. Using conditional Setd2-KO mice, we demonstrated that Setd2 deficiency accelerated the initiation of KrasG12D-driven lung tumorigenesis, increased tumor burden, and significantly reduced mouse survival. An integrated chromatin accessibility and transcriptome analysis revealed a potentially novel tumor suppressor model of SETD2 in which SETD2 loss activates intronic enhancers to drive oncogenic transcriptional output, including the KRAS transcriptional signature and PRC2-repressed targets, through regulation of chromatin accessibility and histone chaperone recruitment. Importantly, SETD2 loss sensitized KRAS-mutant lung cancer to inhibition of histone chaperones, the FACT complex, or transcriptional elongation both in vitro and in vivo. Overall, our studies not only provide insight into how SETD2 loss shapes the epigenetic and transcriptional landscape to promote tumorigenesis, but they also identify potential therapeutic strategies for SETD2 mutant cancers.

ABSTRACT Direct, mediator-free transfer of electrons between a microbial cell and a solid phase in its surrounding environment has been suggested to be a widespread and ecologically significant process. The high rates of microbial electron uptake observed during microbially influenced corrosion of iron [Fe(0)] and during microbial electrosynthesis have been considered support for a direct electron uptake in these microbial processes. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms of direct electron uptake are unknown. We investigated the electron uptake characteristics of the Fe(0)-corroding and electromethanogenic archaeon Methanococcus maripaludis and discovered that free, surface-associated redox enzymes, such as hydrogenases and presumably formate dehydrogenases, are sufficient to mediate an apparent direct electron uptake. In genetic and biochemical experiments, we showed that these enzymes, which are released from cells during routine culturing, catalyze the formation of H2 or formate when sorbed to an appropriate redox-active surface. These low-molecular-weight products are rapidly consumed by M. maripaludis cells when present, thereby preventing their accumulation to any appreciable or even detectable level. Rates of H2 and formate formation by cell-free spent culture medium were sufficient to explain the observed rates of methane formation from Fe(0) and cathode-derived electrons by wild-type M. maripaludis as well as by a mutant strain carrying deletions in all catabolic hydrogenases. Our data collectively show that cell-derived free enzymes can mimic direct extracellular electron transfer during Fe(0) corrosion and microbial electrosynthesis and may represent an ecologically important but so far overlooked mechanism in biological electron transfer. IMPORTANCE The intriguing trait of some microbial organisms to engage in direct electron transfer is thought to be widespread in nature. Consequently, direct uptake of electrons into microbial cells from solid surfaces is assumed to have a significant impact not only on fundamental microbial and biogeochemical processes but also on applied bioelectrochemical systems, such as microbial electrosynthesis and biocorrosion. This study provides a simple mechanistic explanation for frequently observed fast electron uptake kinetics in microbiological systems without a direct transfer: free, cell-derived enzymes can interact with cathodic surfaces and catalyze the formation of intermediates that are rapidly consumed by microbial cells. This electron transfer mechanism likely plays a significant role in various microbial electron transfer reactions in the environment.

Aim: The substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc), a vital part of the brain that produces dopamine, is being closely studied due to its potential role in the monoamine hypothesis, which aims to explain the causes of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Dopamine, a chemical messenger in the brain, is linked to the monoamine hypothesis, suggesting that imbalances in these chemicals may contribute to MDD. This study aimed to calculate volumetric changes in the substantia nigra (SN), using brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in individuals diagnosed with MDD. Material and Method: Sixty-six participants, comprising 33 individuals diagnosed with MDD (mean age=44.30±13.98 years) and 33 healthy individuals (mean age=46.27±14.94 years), were recruited from the university hospital psychiatry outpatient clinic. In the MDD group, there were 15 male participants (45%) and 18 female participants (55%). The healthy control group consisted of 28 males (84.8%) and 5 females (16.2%). Potential confounding factors, such as underlying chronic diseases, were ruled out by the clinician through a thorough examination of the patient's medical history, ensuring the study outcomes were not influenced. Threedimensional brain MRI scans were conducted using a 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner. Volumes of the SN and midbrain were automatically computed using MRIStudio, an atlas-based image analysis program. Results: Statistically significant higher volumes were observed in the right SN in the MDD group compared to controls (0.146±0.045 cm³ vs. 0.122±0.035 cm³, p=0.02, p<0.05). The ratio of SN to midbrain volume was higher in MDD patients on both sides, with a 22.4% higher value on the right side and a 12.7% higher on the left side relative to controls (p=0.002 for the right, p=0.01 for the left; p<0.05). Moreover, a negative correlation between left and right SN volumes and age was identified in the MDD group (p=0.01 for the left, p=0.05 for the right side; p<0.05). Conclusion: Our study revealed an increase in SN volume in MDD patients. Identifying volumetric discrepancies in brain regions responsible for dopamine release could hold significant value in elucidating the underlying causes of the disease and guiding treatment strategies. The aim of the study is to examine the awareness levels of individuals working in the health sector regarding information security and their attitudes toward the confidentiality of electronic health records. The research was conducted with 359 participants from all individuals working in the health sector in Istanbul who participated in the study voluntarily. Data were collected via an online survey. The distribution of sociodemographic and workplace data of individuals is shown in frequency tables. Independent two-sample t-tests, one-way analysis of variance, Mann–Whitney U-test, and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used to examine the differences between groups. The SPSS version 25 program was used in the analysis. Most healthcare workers were women (64.6%), between the ages of 26–35 (44%), and had undergraduate education (46.5%). It has been observed that employees’ attitudes toward the confidentiality of electronic health records are inadequate. Information security awareness level is generally at a medium level (3.62 ± 0.93 and 3.20 ± 1.03). Awareness levels vary between groups depending on the unit they work in, their education level, and title. Moreover, the awareness levels of employees who receive information security training are significantly higher than those who do not receive information security training. To conclude, healthcare professionals need training in information security.

Item parameter drift (IPD) is the systematic differentiation of parameter values of items over time due to various reasons. If it occurs in computer adaptive tests (CAT), it causes errors in the estimation of item and ability parameters. Identification of the underlying conditions of this situation in CAT is important for estimating item and ability parameters with minimum error. This study examines the measurement precision of IPD and its impacts on the test information function (TIF) in CAT administrations. This simulation study compares sample size (1000, 5000), IPD size (0.00 logit, 0.50 logit, 0.75 logit, 1.00 logit), percentage of items containing IPD (0%, 5%, 10%, 20%), three time points and item bank size (200, 500, 1000) conditions. To examine the impacts of the conditions on ability estimations; measurement precision, and TIF values were calculated, and factorial analysis of variance (ANOVA) for independent samples was carried out to examine whether there were any differences between estimations in terms of these factors. The study found that an increase in the number of measurements using item bank with IPD items results in a decrease in measurement precision and the amount of information the test provides. Factorial ANOVA for independent samples revealed that measurements precision and TIF differences are mostly statistically significant. Although all IPD conditions negatively affect measurement precision and TIF, it has been shown that sample size and item bank size generally do not have an increasing or decreasing effect on these factors. Among anxiety disorders, the incidence of alexithymic features is found in a wide range of 12.5-58%, and it is a personality trait that can also be seen in healthy individuals. Our study investigated the relationship between alexithymic features and coping attitudes in patients with generalized anxiety disorder. Forty patients diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and 39 healthy volunteers participated in the study. Participants were divided into groups using the Toronto Alexithymia Scale, and the Hamilton Anxiety Scale and Coping Attitudes Scale were applied to all participants. Nineteen patients with alexithymia and Generalized anxiety disorder, 21 patients with Generalized anxiety disorder without alexithymia, and 39 healthy volunteers participated in this study. Statistically significant differences were observed between the problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping subscale scores, but there was no difference in dysfunctional coping styles between the three groups. In the correlation analysis performed to determine the relationship between the total alexithymia and Coping attitudes subscale scores, there was a moderate negative correlation between the alexithymia scores and problem-focused (r=-0.442) and emotion-focused coping (r=-0.425) subscale scores. Alexithymia is often accompanied by generalized anxiety disorder and negatively affects coping attitudes.

Background and objectives: The development of new therapeutic options to treat leukemia (therapies targeting chimeric antigen receptor [CAR] T cells) down-regulates markers expressed on the cell surface. Therefore, conventional immunophenotyping panels no longer make these antigens unreliable for identifying a B cell immunophenotype. In our study, we methodically compared multiparametric flow cytometry (FC) in bone marrow aspiration and immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis in bone marrow biopsy in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). We sought to answer whether these two methods could be alternatives to each other in the diagnosis of leukemia. Material-Method: Twenty-eight patients diagnosed with ALL were included in the study. A Kappa test was performed between the expression rates of the antibodies studied in simultaneous FC and IHC studies in bone marrow aspiration and biopsy samples performed at the initial diagnosis. Results: Twenty-three of the patients were precursor B-ALL (BCP-ALL) and 5 were T-ALL. In the immunophenotyping of patients with BCP-ALL using FC and IHC, MPO, CD79A, CD14, CD3 expressions were the same, while CD19, CD7, CD117, CD33, CD 56, CD34 expressions were very good, good concordance for CD20 expressions and moderate for CD10 expressions. In immunophenotyping of patients diagnosed with T-ALL using FC and IHC, CD20, CD19, CD14, CD79a, MPO, CD22 expressions were the same and excellent agreement was found in terms of CD2, CD10, CD34 expressions. Conclusion: In cases where there are treatments that affect immunophenotyping, costly methods such as FC are not available, or bone marrow aspiration cannot be taken adequately, immunophenotyping with IHC can be safely performed in the diagnosis of pediatric ALL in bone marrow biopsy.

The application of geospatial information technologies has increased recently due to increase in data sources from the earth sciences. The systematic data collection, storage and processing together with data transformation require geospatial information technologies. Rapidly developing computer technology has become an effective tool in design and physical planning in international platforms. Especially, the availability of geospatial information technologies (remote sensing, GIS, spatial models and GPS) for diverse disciplines and the capability of these technologies in data conversion from two dimensions to the three dimensions provide great efficiency. Thus, this study explores how digital technologies are reshaping physical planning and design. While the potential of digital technologies is well documented within physical planning and visualization, its application within practice is far less understood. This paper highlights the role of the geospatial information technologies in encouraging a new planning and design logic that moves from the privileging of the visual to a focus on processes of formation, bridging the interface of the earth science and physical planning.

Kitapta Pervin Sencer’in duygu ve düşüncelerini kendi kaleminden okuyup analiz edebileceğimiz el yazısının bir kopyası bulunmaktadır. Osmanlı Devleti’nin son dönemlerinde özellikle kadınların okur-yazarlık oranı oldukça düşüş göstermektedir. Yazılanların bir mahremiyeti olduğuna inanılmaktadır ve yayınlanması özel bir durum niteiliği taşımaktadır . Bu durum Osmanlı kadınları arasında yazma isteksizliği oluşturmuştur. Böyle bir ortamda Pervin Hanım kaleme aldığı hatıratını kendi isteği ile hayata gözlerini yumduktan sonra yayınlanmıştır.

The mucopolysaccharidoses are a group of disorders caused by inherited defects in lysosomal enzymes resulting in widespread intracellular and extracellular accumulation of glycosaminoglycans. Due to the mucopolysaccharidoses subtype, glycosaminoglycans can be deposited in many organs and tissues including cornea. In this report, we presented in vivo confocal microscopy and anterior segment optical coherence tomography findings in a 39-year old man with Scheie syndrome and a 41-year old woman with Morquio syndrome (Heidelberg Retina Tomograph 3 Rostock module, Germany) and reviewed the literature. On in vivo confocal microscopy, there were multiple small and larger hyperreflective deposits in the epithelium, Bowman layer and anterior stroma and abnormally shaped, elongated keratocytes with hyporeflective round structures, which might be vacuoles in the anterior-mid stroma. In anterior segment optical coherence tomography images, accumulation of glycosaminoglycans deposits lead to an increased hypereflective appearance throughout the thickened cornea.
