Bacterial cellulose is a raw material that is used in many industrial areas such as textile due to its properties and an alternative to plant cellulose whose usage is increasing day by day. In this research, dissolved bacterial cellulose was used as a coating material. After the coating process, samples were immersed in three different coagulation baths to provide regeneration of the coated material. TGA, FTIR, SEM-EDX, air permeability, tensile test, thermal comfort (alambeta), and water vapor transmission (permetest) analyses were carried out to compare the mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties between raw fabric and treated fabrics. Because of chemical analysis, it was observed that the structures are similar to each other. In terms of thermal stability, it has been determined that the samples that have been coated are more durable than the raw fabric. The tensile test revealed that there was a decrease between 15.05% and 41,62% in the strength of coated materials. According to the results of air permeability, alambeta, and permetest, a decrease in air permeability values, an increase in relative water vapor permeability, and thermal conductivity values were observed with the increase of the remaining coating material in the fabric.

Natural dyestuffs are evaluated as innovative natural sources to color the fabric and give antibacterial properties in the textile industry. In this study, methanol extracts of Helichrysum arenarium subsp. aucheri were used as natural sources in wool fabric dyeing. Aluminum potassium sulfate (KAl(SO4)2.12H2O), copper sulfate (CuSO4.5H2O), and iron sulfate (FeSO4.7H2O) metal salts were used in the pre-mordanting process. The dyeing process was carried out in mordant and non-mordant fabrics at 25% and 50% concentrations. In this experiment, fastness values are ranked between medium and good grades. The point that should be especially emphasized is that the un-mordanted and dyed samples’ fastness values are acceptable. The disc diffusion method was applied to determine the antibacterial effect of extracts against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and gram-negative Escherichia coli ATCC 25922. The methanol extract obtained from the ultrasonic water bath has shown the most powerful antibacterial effect against S. aureus ATCC 25923 with a 15.8 zone diameter. The dyed wool fabrics demonstrated excellent antimicrobial activity (reduction rates: w38.4e100) against two different bacteria according to AATCC 100 method.

A 46-year-old man developed chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension and atrial fibrillation after acute pulmonary embolism. He was found incidentally to have an isolated secundum atrial septal defect, as well as a homozygous mutation for the plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 gene. He was successfully treated with pulmonary endarterectomy and atrial septal defect repair. He has continued to do well on a regimen of dabigatran. (Level of Difficulty: Beginner.)

In this study, the improvement of the thermal and acoustic insulation and also electromagnetic radiation properties of polyester (PET) nonwoven fabric (NWF) with 180 g/m2 weight was investigated. For this purpose, PET NWF was coated with perlite stone powder having 210 – 590 µm particle size using polyurethane (PU) based coating. Five different concentrations from 1 to 5 % of perlite stone powder were applied to the surface of PET NWF having five different thicknesses. And then the effect of perlite concentration and its thickness to thermal, acoustic and electromagnetic radiation properties were studied. It was found that the addition of perlite stone powder increased the thermal and acoustic insulation properties of PET NWF. Purpose of this study is to examine the effect of “Development of Efficient Studying Skills Curriculum” on academic achievements and studying skills of 7th grade primary school students. In this study, pre test post test from experiment models and semi experimental model with control group were preferred. The reason for the preference is our wish to make a comparison between the group on which curriculum was implemented (experiment group), and the group on which curriculum was not implemented (control group) in terms of academic achievement, and acquiring efficient studying skills. Study population of this research covers 7th grade students from Refika Küçükçalık Primary School in Kocasinan district of Kayseri which is located in the middle of Turkey during 2011 2012 academic year (8 units, 320 students). Sample of the study was determined according to purposive sampling which is one of non probability sampling types. Obtained data were analysed employing Covariance Analysis (ANCOVA). As a result, this research indicated that students can acquire efficientstudying skills by means of Curriculum for Developing Efficient Studying Skills and they increase their academic achievements thanks to these studying habits. In this sense, if quality of education is desired to be increased, students with high level of academic achievements are intended and growing youth is expected to compete with the young population of other states with the effect of globalization, it is necessary to make students acquire efficient studying skills.

Many of the prostatic cysts are asymptomatic and only 5% are symptomatic (Hamper et al., 1990; Higashi et al., 1990). These symptoms include pelvic pain, hematospermia, infertility, voiding dysfunction, prostatitis-like syndrome, and painful ejaculation. Treatment of prostatic cysts includes TRUSG guided drainage, endoscopic transurethral resection, and in some cases even open surgery. In the literature, endoscopic interventions use marsupialization of the midline prostatic cyst with transurethral resection (TUR) or transurethral incision with endoscopic urethrotomy (Dik et al., 1996; Terris, 1995). Holmium: YAG laser was employed for the marsupialization of the cyst wall in midline prostatic cyst treatment for the first time in the present study. Symptoms, treatment, and follow-up are presented in this paper.

Objective:This study aimed to examine the sleep quality of common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) patients and to investigate the relationship between sleep quality and depression, anxiety, fatigue, excessive daytime sleepiness and naturel killer (NK) cell counts.Materials and Methods:The study included 53 patients followed with CVID diagnosis. To determine sleep quality and conditions associated with sleep quality in CVID patients, Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), fatigue severity scale (FSS), Hamilton depression scale (HAM-D), Hamilton anxiety scale (HAM-A) and Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS) were used.Results:Fatigue was found in 37 (70%) patients, poor sleep quality in 34 (64%), depression in 20 (38%), anxiety in 16 (30%), and excessive daytime sleepiness in 11 (21%) patients. All patients CVID patients received immunoglobulin replacement therapy: Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) in 37 (72%) and subcutaneous immunoglobulin (SCIG) in 16 (28%) patients. Methods: A retrospective scan was made of the files of patients who presented at the Allergy Unit of our clinic between October 2011 and October 2021. The study included 971 patients aged ≥18 years who met the criteria for diagnosis of anaphylaxis. The patients were separated into 2 groups of adults (18–64 years) and older adults (≥65 years). Aim: Candidemia has high morbidity and mortality rate in critically ill patients hospitalized in intensive care units. Prompt initiation of accurate anti-fungal therapy is essential for survival. In this study, a 6-year retrospective candidemia analysis of pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) was performed to review candida species distribution, risk factors for candidemia and change in the antifungal resistance in years. Material and Method: The candidemia episodes of children followed in the PICU of XXX Hospital between January 2014 and January 2020 were analyzed. The demographic and clinical characteristics, laboratory findings, treatments and outcomes of the patients were obtained from the medical records. Results: Fifty-nine episodes of candidemia (54.2% female) were reported in six years, median age at diagnosis was 43 months (range 1-225), median hospital stay was 48 days (range 3-664). All patients had used broad-spectrum antibiotics, majority had comorbidities (89.8%), nasogastric tube (84.7), central venous catheter (78.0%), and on mechanic ventilation (76.3%). Type of candida species was identified in 36 episodes of candidemia; 47.2% of these episodes were caused by C. parapsilosis, 38,9% by C. albicans, 8.3% by C. glabrata (8.3%), 2.8% by C. lusitaniae, and 2.8% by C. tropicalis. Length of hospital stay was longer among patients with nonalbicans candidemia, and these patients had higher leucocyte count at diagnosis. The rate of antifungal resistance increased over the years. Overall, thirty-day mortality rate was 16.9%. Conclusion: For critically ill patients with markedly elevated leucocyte count and long hospital stay, empiric antifungal treatment should cover nonalbicans candida with antifungal resistance.

Objective: Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) as measures of obesity have some limitations. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether one measure could predict the presence of diastolic dysfunction (DD) more accurately than the other measures. Methods: A total of 91 obese patients without any other risk factors for DD were prospectively enrolled. Echocardiographic examination was performed. DD was defined and categorized according to recent guidelines. The study participants were divided into 2 groups according to the presence of DD. Weight, height, and WC were measured; BMI and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) were calculated; and a body shape index (ABSI) was calculated as WC/(BMI2/3height1/2). The associations between ABSI, BMI, WHR, and WC and the presence of DD were examined using logistic regression analyses. Analysis of covariance was used to examine the differences. Results: WC and BMI were significantly greater in subjects with DD (p=0.049 and 0.051, respectively). A greater BMI, WC, and WHR increased the risk of the presence of DD (BMIDD: odds ratio [OR]=1.096, p=0.024; WC-DD: OR=1.059, p=0.007; WHR-DD: OR=2.363, p=0.007). After adjustment for age and sex, only BMI continued to be significantly associated with DD (p=0.031). ABSI was not associated with DD. Conclusion: After adjustment for age and sex, BMI was the only predictor of DD in obesity. Despite its limitations, BMI may still be a potentially more accurate measure of DD compared with other obesity measures.

Purpose We studied the use of magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis of penile fracture. Materials and Methods Between 1997 and 2012, fifteen patients (age range 17-48 years, mean age 37 years) with suspected penile fracture underwent MRI examinations. Ten patients were injured during sexual intercourse, whereas four patients were traumatized by non-physiological bending of the penis during self manupilation, one patient was traumatized falling from the bed. Investigations were performed with 1.5T MR unit. With the patient in the supine position, the penis was taped against the abdominal wall and surface coil was placed on the penis. All patients were studied with axial, coronal, sagittal precontrast and postcontrast T1-weighted TSE(TR/TE:538/13 msn) and T2-weighted TSE(5290/110 msn) sequences. All patient underwent surgical exploration. The follow-up ranged from 3 months to 72 months. Clinically all patients showed normal healing process without complications. In 11 patients a shortening and thickening of tunica albuginea was observed. Three patients have post traumatic erectil disfunction. Results In all patient corpus cavernosum fractures were clearly depicted on a discontinuity of the low signal intensity of tunica albuginea. These findings were most evident on T1WI and also depicted on T2W sequences. Images obtained shortly after contrast medium administration showed considerable enhancement only in rupture site. Subcutaneous extratunical haematoma in all patients were also recognizable on T2 WI. MRI findings were confirmed at surgery. Conclusions Magnetic resonance imaging is of great value for the diagnosis of penile fracture. Furthermore this method is well suited for visualising the post-operative healing process

Aim: This study aims to investigate the relationship between gestational age and developmental morphometric measurements of the kidneys. Materials and Methods: In the present study, 30 Holstein cattle fetuses were used. Ten fetuses, belonging to each of the early, mid- and late gestational stages were evaluated. Accordingly, in total, 60 kidneys were assessed after bilateral dissection for three different renal parameters (length, width, thickness). The morphometric data obtained from the kidneys was subjected to statistical analysis. Results: In general, throughout gestation, all renal measurements were significantly correlated with gestational age. The length and width of the right and left kidneys were highly (R2≥0.90) correlated with gestational age but, in comparison, the thickness of both kidneys was less correlated (R2≤0.86) with gestational age. All of the renal parameters were significantly correlated with the crown-rump length in the early, mid- and late stages of gestation but, the correlation between the thickness of the right kidney and crown-rump length was not significant in the late stage of gestation contrary to the left kidney. Moreover, the correlation between the cranial width of the left kidney and the crown-rump length was also shown to be insignificant. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, which was based on an anatomical approach to the correlation between organ development and gestational age; kidney measurements can be used as collateral criteria for the prediction of gestational age.
