Abstract A comprehensive study of the optical properties of CsPbBr3 perovskite multiple quantum wells (MQW) with organic barrier layers is presented. Quantum confinement is observed by a blue‐shift in absorption and emission spectra with decreasing well width and agrees well with simulations of the confinement energies. A large increase of emission intensity with thinner layers is observed, with a photoluminescence quantum yield up to 32 times higher than that of bulk layers. Amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) measurements show very low thresholds down to 7.3 µJ cm−2 for a perovskite thickness of 8.7 nm, significantly lower than previously observed for CsPbBr3 thin‐films. With their increased photoluminescence efficiency and low ASE thresholds, MQW structures with CsPbBr3 are excellent candidates for high‐efficiency perovskite‐based LEDs and lasers.

Recent progress on perovskite lasers has shown the large potential for such materials to become a basis for commercially available microlasers in the near feature. Herein, distributed feedback (DFB) lasers based on vacuum‐processed CsPbBr 3 are investigated. The expansion of the DFB structure from 1D to 2D suppresses parasitic amplified spontaneous emission (ASE), resulting in the multiple‐time‐enhanced lasing output. Further, the photoluminescence and lasing behavior of 1D and 2D DFB structures are explored through the k‐space imaging analysis.

Metal halide perovskites are the first solution processed semiconductors that can compete in their functionality with conventional semiconductors, such as silicon. Over the past several years, perovskite semiconductors have reported breakthroughs in various optoelectronic devices, such as solar cells, photodetectors, light emitting and memory devices, and so on. Until now, perovskite semiconductors face challenges regarding their stability, reproducibility, and toxicity. In this Roadmap, we combine the expertise of chemistry, physics, and device engineering from leading experts in the perovskite research community to focus on the fundamental material properties, the fabrication methods, characterization and photophysical properties, perovskite devices, and current challenges in this field. We develop a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art and offer readers an informed perspective of where this field is heading and what challenges we have to overcome to get to successful commercialization.

Abstract The success of metal halide perovskites in photovoltaic and light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) motivates their application as a solid‐state thin‐film laser. Various perovskites have shown optically pumped stimulated emission of lasing and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE), yet the ultimate goal of electrically pumped stimulated emission has not been achieved. As an essential step toward this goal, here, a perovskite diode structure that simultaneously exhibits stable operation at high current density (≈1 kA cm−2) and optically excited ASE (with a threshold of 180 µJ cm−2) is reported. This diode structure achieves an electroluminescence quantum efficiency of 0.8% at 850 A cm−2, which is estimated to be ≈3% of the charge carrier population required to reach ASE in the same device. It is shown that the formation of a large angle waveguide mode and the reduction of parasitic absorption losses are two major design principles for diodes to obtain a positive gain for stimulated emission. In addition to its prospect as a perovskite laser, a new application of electrically pumped ASE is proposed as an ideal perovskite LED architecture allowing 100% external radiation efficiency.

Considering the demand for low temperature bonding in 3D integration and packaging of microelectronic or micromechanical components, this paper presents the development and application of an innovative inductive heating system using micro coils for rapid Cu-Sn solid-liquid interdiffusion (SLID) bonding at chip-level. The design and optimization of the micro coil as well as the analysis of the heating process were carried out by means of finite element method (FEM). The micro coil is a composite material of an aluminum nitride (AlN) carrier substrate and embedded metallic coil conductors. The conductive coil geometry is generated by electroplating of 500 µm thick copper into the AlN carrier. By using the aforementioned micro coil for inductive Cu-Sn SLID bonding, a complete transformation into the thermodynamic stable ε-phase Cu3Sn with an average shear strength of 45.1 N/mm2 could be achieved in 130 s by applying a bond pressure of 3 MPa. In comparison to conventional bonding methods using conduction-based global heating, the presented inductive bonding approach is characterized by combining very high heating rates of about 180 K/s as well as localized heating and efficient cooling of the bond structures. In future, the technology will open new opportunities in the field of wafer-level bonding.

This paper presents an experimental electro-thermo-mechanical simulation of high-frequency induction (HFI) welding to investigate the effect of temperature and contact normal stress on the weld seam quality. Therefore welding experiments at different temperatures and contact pressures are performed using flat specimens of 34MnB5 steel sheet. In order to characterize the weld seam strength of the welded specimens, tensile and bending tests are performed. To obtain a relative weld seam strength, the bending specimens were additionally hardened prior to testing. With the hardened specimens, it can be shown that the weld seam strength increases with increasing temperature and contact normal stress until a kind of plateau is formed where the weld seam strength remains almost constant. In addition to mechanical testing, the influence of the investigated process parameters on the weld seam microstructure is studied metallographically using light optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, EBSD and hardness measurements. It is shown that the weld seam strength is related to the amount of oxides in the bonding line.

In the pipe manufacturing and pipe processing industry, the demand for cost-effective pipes with high strength and good ductility is increasing. In the present study, the inductive longitudinal welding process was combined with a Quenching and Partitioning (Q&P) treatment to manufacture pipes with enhanced mechanical properties. The aim of the Q&P process is to establish a martensitic structure with increased retained austenite content. This allows for the beneficial use of both phases: the strength of martensite as well as the ductility of retained austenite. A 42SiCr steel, developed for Q&P processes, was joined at the longitudinal seam by a high-frequency induction (HFI) welding process and was subsequently heat-treated. The applied heat treatments included normalizing, austenitizing, quenching, and two Q&P strategies (Q&P-A/Q&P-B) with distinct quenching (Tq = 200/150 °C) and partitioning temperatures (Tp = 300/250 °C). Investigations of the microstructures revealed that Q&P tubes exhibit increased amounts of retained austenite in the martensitic matrix. Differences between the weld junction and the base material occurred, especially regarding the morphology of the martensite; the martensite found in the weld junction is finer and corresponds more to the lath-type morphology, compared to the base material in the circumference. In all zones of the welded tube circumference, retained austenite has been found in similar distributions. The mechanical testing of the individual tubes demonstrated that the Q&P treatments offer increased strength compared to all other states and significantly improved ductility compared to the quenched condition. Therefore, the approach of Q&P treatment of HFI-welded tubes represents a route for the mass production of high-strength tubular products with improved ductility.

Bloom filter encoded identifiers are increasingly used for privacy preserving record linkage applications, because they allow for errors in encrypted identifiers. However, little research on the security of Bloom filters has been published so far. In this paper, we formalize a successful attack on Bloom filters composed of bigrams. It has previously been assumed in the literature that an attacker knows the global data set from which a sample is drawn. In contrast, we suppose that an attacker does not know this global data set. Instead, we assume the adversary knows a publicly available list of the most frequent attributes. The attack is based on subtle filtering and elementary statistical analysis of encrypted bigrams. The attack described in this paper can be used for the deciphering of a whole database instead of only a small subset of the most frequent names, as in previous research. We illustrate our proposed method with an attack on a database of encrypted surnames. Finally, we describe modifications of the Bloom filters for preventing similar attacks.

Enzymatic assays for cholesterol determination can use an end point or a kinetic method. We evaluated and compared the performance of these methods. We constructed user-defined methods on 3 automated analyzers using Streptomyces cholesterol reagents to evaluate the analytic performance of both methods. Linearity (700-900 mg/dL) and stability of reagents (5-11 weeks) depended on the analyzers. The coefficients of variation for imprecision were 2.41% to 2.99% and 3.78% to 5.52% for the end point and kinetic methods, respectively. The end point method showed less bias at decision cut points (-0.8% to 1.3%) than did the kinetic method (-1.1% to 3.6%) but was more affected by interfering substances.The advantages of the end point over the kinetic method are better precision and lower reagent cost. The end point imprecision fell within National Cholesterol Education Program guidelines (⩽3%), but the kinetic did not. The kinetic method showed less interference and required shorter analysis time.
