Abstract

The structure of 74Se at low energy was investigated via spectroscopy of internal conversion electrons at the INFN Legnaro National Laboratories (LNL). A set of internal K-conversion coefficients and monopole transition strengths was measured. A large ρ 2 (E 0 ; 2 2 + → 2 1 +) ⋅ 10 3 = 210 (130) value was deduced. This result, in addition to a low upper limit for the 0 3 + → 0 2 + electron transition, casts in doubt a simple interpretation of the 74Se low-lying structure, in particular the recently proposed spherical, vibrational character. New microscopic beyond-mean-field calculations generally agree with the experimental results and are capable of producing a large ρ 2 (E 0 ; 2 2 + → 2 1 +) value, even if still a factor ≈7 smaller than the experiment. Triaxiality and a complex shape-coexistence and mixing scenario seem responsible for this unexpected experimental result. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Abstract: Two gadonilium DOTAM complexes [Gd(DOTAM)H2O](CF3SO3)3 ·3H2O (1) and [Gd(DOTAM)H2O](CF3SO3)3 ·0.5H2O·CH3CN (2) have the structure of the M isomer, with coordination geometry around the Gd ion capped square antiprismatic (SA). They differ for the Gd–Owater bond lengths of 2.396(6) and 2.474(7)Å in (2) where two independent molecules are present in the crystal cell. The factors influencing the Gd–Owater bond distance, important for the water exchange rate in MRI experiments, have been correlated to the different network of hydrogen bonds involving the Gd coordinated water molecule. The X-ray structure of the parent compound [Pr(DOTAM)H2O](CF3SO3)3 ·H2O·CH3CN (3) reveals an unexpected twisted square antiprismatic (TSA) coordination geometry characteristic of the m isomer. Abstract

The crystallographic structure of an engineered flavodoxin mutant from Desulfovihrio vulgaris has been analysed. Site-directed mutagenesis was used to substitute serine 35 with a cysteine to provide a possible covalent linkage. The crystal structure of the semiquinone form of this mutant is similar to the corresponding oxidation state of the wild-type flavodoxin. Analysis of the structural changes reveals the interaction between N(5)H of the flavin and the carhonyl 0 atom of G1y61 to he critical for modulation of the electrochemical properties of the protein.
