Recent years have witnessed growing acceptance of gender and sexuality diversity in Australia; yet, its inclusion in the school curriculum remains contentious. Despite evidence to the contrary, there is a commonly held belief that parents consider the inclusion of such topics inappropriate. In the light of this, this paper focuses on an analysis of three qualitative items from an Australian national survey of parents of children attending government-funded schools. Informed by the responses to these questions, we sought to better understand the concept of age-appropriateness present in the discourses deployed by a (minority) number of Australian parents who did not support gender and sexuality diversity-inclusivity in the curriculum. Thematic data analysis identified three key themes used by parents to warrant gender and sexuality diversity curriculum exclusion based on age inappropriateness: namely, inclusion is 'confusing'; children are too 'immature'; and children are too 'easily influenced'. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) availability through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme provides real potential for the elimination of HIV transmission in Australia, as evidenced by a rapid decline in HIV incidence among gay and bisexual men (GBM). However, HIV elimination will not be possible without also extending PrEP to other populations, including cisgender women. We conducted a scoping review to examine the extent to which PrEP access for cisgender women has been considered in Australia. A comprehensive search across five databases, grey literature, and hand search of references was conducted. A single reviewer conducted title and abstract screening and two reviewers completed full-text screening and data extraction. Nineteen documents were included in the final review and included both peer-reviewed journal articles and guidelines and strategies. Focused discussion of cisgender women's use of PrEP was largely missing from the literature and, although their use of PrEP is supported in some relevant guidelines, little has been done to actively develop strategies to inform cisgender women about PrEP as a precursor to prescribing for HIV prevention. Healthcare providers' narrow view of PrEP as being the domain of GBM further limits cisgender women's potential access. If HIV elimination in Australia is to be a reality, we need to develop mechanisms to specifically engage with cisgender women about PrEP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since the 1980s, queer women have held a precarious position in HIV/AIDS discourse, often invisible or positioned in caring roles for others living with HIV. The voices of queer women who are themselves HIV-positive have been largely unrepresented. In this article, we examine artworks by Kia LaBeija and Jessica Whitbread, contemporary artists who explicitly draw on their experiences as queer HIV-positive women. We trace the appearance of material objects of home in their artworks, and how pleasure, love, and care are imbricated in and through domestic objects, spaces, and practices. Reading Whitbread's and LaBeija's work together draws attention to the potent and political role of the domestic objects, textures, and fabrics in the telling and reframing of stories about HIV-positive queer women's lives. We argue that Whitbread's and LaBeija's art offers new visual resources that help frame and orient the experiences of queer HIV-positive women beyond the biomedical. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sexual minority women are largely invisible in Australian HIV discourses, where their sexual identities are erased under heterosexist exposure categories. The dominance of these risk categories means there is no way of knowing how many sexual minority women are living with HIV in Australia. In this article, I draw on Carol Bacchi's "What is the Problem Represented to Be?" (WPR) methodological approach to explore how sexual minority women are (not) spoken to as particular kinds of subjects in 2014–2017 editions of Australia's largest LGBTQ women's magazine, Lesbians on the Loose. Through an analysis of both their explicit representation in the magazine and the silencing of their identities, practices, and desires, I suggest that sexual minority women emerge, first, as allies to sexual minority men and people living with HIV and, second, as "at-risk" of contracting HIV themselves.
