One of the currently investigated problems in power electronics-based electrical energy conversion is proper operation of electronic converters during grid voltage imbalance and harmonics. In classic control methods, it introduces oscillations of variables, resulting in the necessity to improve control systems with signals filtration and usually by application of resonant terms as part of current controllers. The paper presents a new approach to grid-connected inverter control based on transformation to a non-Cartesian frame, the parameters of which are correlated with grid voltage asymmetry. The proposed method results in resignation from resonant terms used as controllers and their replacement with proportional–integral terms for which anti-wind-up structures are significantly simpler than for oscillatory terms. The paper presents new transformation principles, features and some simulation results showing the waveforms of signals transformed to the new non-Cartesian frame.

The paper presents a control method for the three-phase power converter operating under unbalanced grid voltage conditions. The method uses a new transformation to the non-Cartesian frame, which makes the controlled current vector components balanced in this frame even if originally the three-phase current is referenced as unbalanced. Furthermore, Park’s transformation makes the controlled variables constant, which allows to apply proportional–integral terms as current controllers independent of the required control target. Several control targets known from literature have been analyzed with regard to the required new transformation parameters, and the transformation parameters for all targets have been found. Simulation results are shown to prove the theoretical analysis, and the experimental test results are presented as practical validation of the proposed use of the non-Cartesian frame in control.

Abstract DNA methyltransferase 3 A mutations (DNMT3A MT) are frequent in myeloid neoplasia (MN) and mostly heterozygous. However, cases with multiple DNMT3A MT can be also encountered but their clinical and genetic landscape remains unexplored. We retrospectively analyzed 533 cases with DNMT3A MT identified out of 5,603 consecutive MNs, of whom 8.4% had multiple DNMT3A MT hits. They were most frequent in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with R882 variant accounting for 13.3% of the multi-hits. Multiple DNMT3A MT more likely coincided with IDH2 (P = 0.005) and ETV6 (P = 0.044) mutations compared to patients with single DNMT3A MT. When the sum of variant allele frequencies (VAFs) for multiple DNMT3A MT exceeded 60%, we found a significant positive clonal burden correlation of the two DNMT3A variants (P

Nowadays, the world is struggling with the problems of an aging society. With the increasing share of older people in the population, degenerative joint diseases are a growing problem. The result of progressive degenerative changes in joints is primarily the deterioration of the patients' quality of life and their gradual exclusion from activity and social life. The ability to effectively, non-invasively and quickly detect cases of chondromalacia of the knee joints is a challenge for modern medicine. The possibility of early detection of progressive degenerative changes allows for the appropriate selection of treatment protocols and significantly increases the chances of inhibiting the development of degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system. The article presents a non-invasive method for detecting degenerative changes in the knee joints based on recurrence analysis and classification using neural networks. The result of the analyzes was a classification accuracy of 91.07% in the case of MLP neural networks and 80.36% for RBF networks.

Abstract The article presents a very simple method of synthesis and application of a halogen and formaldehyde free, P, S and Si-containing flame retardant for the durable finishing of cotton fabric. The compound was obtained as a result of the thiol-ene click reaction. The compound was designed to have two functional groups: an alkoxysilyl group for cross-linking and binding to the cotton fabric, and a phosphate group to provide flame retardant properties. The flame retardant was applied to cotton fabric using the sol–gel method. According to the pyrolysis-combustion flow calorimetry (PCFC) technique, the use of the obtained silane for cotton treatment can reduce heat release rate (HRR) to almost 75% compared to the raw fabric. FT-IR analyses and SEM images indicate that impregnated cotton samples were covered with a layer of silanes. The SEM–EDS analysis confirmed successful modification of cotton fabrics. After 10 cycles of washing it was found that the created coatings are resistant to washing and retain their flame retardant properties.

Abstract Background Research suggests an association between COVID-19 infection and certain financial hardships in the shorter term and among single-state and privately insured samples. Whether COVID-19 is associated with financial hardship in the longer-term or among socially vulnerable populations is unknown. Therefore, we examined whether COVID-19 was associated with a range of financial hardships 18 months after initial infection among a national cohort of Veterans enrolled in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA)—the largest national integrated health system in the US. We additionally explored the association between Veteran characteristics and financial hardship during the pandemic, irrespective of COVID-19. Methods We conducted a prospective, telephone-based survey. Out of 600 Veterans with COVID-19 from October 2020 through April 2021 who were invited to participate, 194 Veterans with COVID-19 and 194 matched comparators without a history of infection participated. Financial hardship outcomes included overall health-related financial strain, two behavioral financial hardships (e.g., taking less medication than prescribed due to cost), and seven material financial hardships (e.g., using up most or all savings). Weighted generalized estimating equations were used to estimate risk ratios (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of financial hardship by COVID-19 status, and to assess the relationship between infection and Veteran age, VHA copay status, and comorbidity score, irrespective of COVID-19 status. Results Among 388 respondents, 67% reported at least one type of financial hardship since March 2020, with 21% reporting behavioral hardships and 64% material hardships; 8% reported severe-to-extreme health-related financial strain. Compared with uninfected matched comparators, Veterans with a history of COVID-19 had greater risks of severe-to-extreme health-related financial strain (RR: 4.0, CI: 1.4–11.2), taking less medication due to cost (RR: 2.9, 95% CI: 1.0–8.6), and having a loved one take time off work to care for them (RR: 1.9, CI: 1.1–3.6). Many students who take a mathematics course as part of their post-secondary education are not enrolled in a mathematically-intensive degree program. This poses a challenge to mathematics departments that, for example, value and privilege more traditional mathematics curriculum: should students in such courses be taught differently than those in more traditional mathematics courses? What should constitute the curricula of these courses and who should teach them? How might the local institutional context influence the courses that are ultimately offered? This paper sketches a theory intended to help frame responses to these questions. We then present an example of this theory in action, in the form of a general education mathematics course for first-year, underprepared students. The ongoing design, teaching, and evaluation of this course might inspire further revisions to general education in mathematics at the undergraduate level. We present the motivation for the design of the course, a summary of what was ultimately enacted, and our reflections of this ongoing event. Our intention here is not to present our course and an evaluation of its 'success' -- however that might be conceptualised -- but rather to display a rigorous vision for post-secondary general education mathematics.

Abstract Intense exercise leads to increased production of free radicals, resulting in an inflammatory response in athletes. For this reason, it was decided to investigate whether a single intensive exercise until exhaustion applied after a 2-week rest period would result in a violation of the pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance. Twenty-seven trained female basketball players (age: 16.55 ± 0.96 years, body mass: 66.40 ± 13.68 kg, height: 173.45 ± 5.14 cm) were enrolled to the study following the application of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Study was conducted at the end of the competitive training phase. Participants underwent incremental treadmill exercise, with blood samples collected before the test, immediately post-exercise, and after a 3-h restitution period. Total antioxidant capacity (TAC) levels increased significantly after exercise and remained unchanged after 3 h. Concentration of interleukin-10 (IL-10) and creatine kinase (CK) significantly increased after exercise and then decreased. Concentration of interleukin-2 (IL-2) was significantly reduced immediately and 3 h after exercise, while interleukin-13 (IL-13), interleukin-1α (IL-1α), and tryptophan (TRP) decreased 3 h after exercise. No significant changes were observed in other biochemical parameters. Obtained results show an increased antioxidant capacity which reduced oxidative stress and inflammation in response to intense exercise indicating that rested athletes have a high adaptation and elevated tolerance to effort.

Background Approximately 50% of women referred for invasive coronary angiography have angina and nonobstructive coronary arteries, which includes coronary microvascular dysfunction, vasospastic angina, and other vasomotor disorders. We sought to determine the real‐world diagnostic yield of invasive coronary angiography and coronary function testing in women with angina and nonobstructive coronary arteries. Methods and Results From 2018 to 2023, we enrolled 198 women who underwent either coronary angiography (CA) alone (n=99) or coronary function testing (CFT; n=99). Mean±SD age was 62±10 years (CA alone) compared with 57±10 years (CFT). Coronary angiography was interpreted as nonobstructive coronary artery disease more frequently after CA alone (79% versus 52%). Of the women who underwent CFT, 82% (N=81) were found to have vasomotor disorders, including coronary microvascular dysfunction (27%), vasospastic angina (32%), mixed coronary microvascular dysfunction/vasospastic angina (16%), endothelial dysfunction (10%; without spasm), elevated resting flow (2%), or symptomatic myocardial bridging (4%). Compared with women undergoing CA alone, medications were changed more frequently after CFT at 24 hours (41% versus 65%; P=0.001) and between 24 hours and 30 days (30% versus 44%; P=0.04) with intensification of antianginal therapy (79% versus 92%; P80% of women undergoing CFT received a specific diagnosis of a coronary vasomotor disorder and greater intensification of antianginal therapy.

Background One of the most robust risk factors for developing a mood disorder is having a parent with a mood disorder. Unfortunately, mechanisms explaining the transmission of mood disorders from one generation to the next remain largely elusive. Since timely intervention is associated with a better outcome and prognosis, early detection of intergenerational transmission of mood disorders is of paramount importance. Here, we describe the design of the Mood and Resilience in Offspring (MARIO) cohort study in which we investigate: 1. differences in clinical, biological and environmental (e.g., psychosocial factors, substance use or stressful life events) risk and resilience factors in children of parents with and without mood disorders, and 2. mechanisms of intergenerational transmission of mood disorders via clinical, biological and environmental risk and resilience factors. Methods MARIO is an observational, longitudinal cohort study that aims to include 450 offspring of parents with a mood disorder (uni- or bipolar mood disorders) and 100-150 offspring of parents without a mood disorder aged 10-25 years. Power analyses indicate that this sample size is sufficient to detect small to medium sized effects. Offspring are recruited via existing Dutch studies involving patients with a mood disorder and healthy controls, for which detailed clinical, environmental and biological data of the index-parent (i.e., the initially identified parent with or without a mood disorder) is available. Over a period of three years, four assessments will take place, in which extensive clinical, biological and environmental data and data on risk and resilience are collected through e.g., blood sampling, face-to-face interviews, online questionnaires, actigraphy and Experience Sampling Method assessment. For co-parents, information on demographics, mental disorder status and a DNA-sample are collected. Discussion The MARIO cohort study is a large longitudinal cohort study among offspring of parents with and without mood disorders. A unique aspect is the collection of granular data on clinical, biological and environmental risk and resilience factors in offspring, in addition to available parental data on many similar factors. We aim to investigate the mechanisms underlying intergenerational transmission of mood disorders, which will ultimately lead to better outcomes for offspring at high familial risk.

The aim of the study is to explore how geomarketing becomes a key element in managing the business model (BM) of an established retailer on the food market. The survey sample comprised 244 stores, whose managers were questioned by means of a semi-structured interview in 2021. Cluster analysis was used to assess 40 statements from the managers about the BMs of the current store. The resulting clusters indicate, among others, that large retailers devote more and more attention to the analysis of a territory, and their decision-making deepens even more due to the use of a multi-format strategy on the food market. The article contributes to the discussion about the market within geomarketing research in terms of both theory and practice at a time when the population’s income is expected to decrease due to several crises, for example, health-economic and energy, on the food market.

Abstract PHF6 mutations (PHF6 MT) are identified in various myeloid neoplasms (MN). However, little is known about the precise function and consequences of PHF6 in MN. Here we show three main findings in our comprehensive genomic and proteomic study. Firstly, we show a different pattern of genes correlating with PHF6 MT in male and female cases. When analyzing male and female cases separately, in only male cases, RUNX1 and U2AF1 are co-mutated with PHF6. In contrast, female cases reveal co-occurrence of ASXL1 mutations and X-chromosome deletions with PHF6 MT. Next, proteomics analysis reveals a direct interaction between PHF6 and RUNX1. Both proteins co-localize in active enhancer regions that define the context of lineage differentiation. Finally, we demonstrate a negative prognostic role of PHF6 MT, especially in association with RUNX1. The negative effects on survival are additive as PHF6 MT cases with RUNX1 mutations have worse outcomes when compared to cases carrying single mutation or wild-type.

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a rare, acquired, non-malignant hematologic disease characterized by complement-mediated hemolysis (with or without hemoglobinuria), fatigue, increased susceptibility to thrombosis, and bone marrow dysfunction. The development of complement inhibitors has transformed outcomes for patients with PNH, but patients may still experience pharmacodynamic breakthrough hemolysis (BTH), which can be caused by exposure to a complement amplifying condition (CAC), such as vaccination, infection, or surgery.Materials and methods: A 13-member expert panel used a validated methodology (a RAND/UCLA modified Delphi panel) to develop consensus on how to classify pharmacodynamic BTH in patients with complement-inhibitor treated PNH. Physicians reviewed literature, rated the appropriateness of over 400 scenarios, and discussed the ratings at an in-person meeting.Results: After the meeting, the panel agreed on 77% of scenarios. Here, we present the group’s agreed-upon recommendations on how to manage BTH caused by a CAC, as well as provide a severity classification system for BTH and strategies to mitigate risk of BTH in special circumstances (e.g. vaccination, planned or unplanned surgery, and pregnancy).Discussion: In general, as severity of BTH increased, experts agreed more interventions to manage the BTH were appropriate. These recommendations are based on clinical experience and opinion. Without clear data from randomized trials to guide the management of BTH, expert opinion can be useful to support patient care.

Osteoarthritis is one of the leading causes of disability around the globe. Up to this date there is no definite cure for cartilage lesions. Only fast and accurate diagnosis enables prolonging joint survivor time. Available diagnostic methods have disadvantages such as high price, radiation, need for experienced radiologists or low availability in some regions. The present study evaluates the use of vibroarthorgraphy as a method of cartilage lesion detection. 47 patients with diagnosed cartilage lesions, and 51 healthy control group patients have been enrolled in this study. The cartilage in the study group was evaluated intraoperatively by experienced orthopaedic surgeon. Signal acquisition was performed in open and closed kinematic chain based on 10 knee joint movements from 0-90 degrees. By using EEMD-DFA algorithms, reducing classifier inputs using ANOVA and then classifying using artificial neural networks (ANN), a classification accuracy of almost 93% was achieved. A sensitivity of 0.93 and a specificity of 0.93 with an AUC of 0.942 were obtained for the multilayer perceptron network. These results allow to apply this testing protocol in a clinical setting in the future.

Cartilage degeneration is a serious health condition in modern society, leading to problems in mobility and significant reduction in the quality of life of patients of all ages. It is mainly caused by obesity, workload, sports or trauma to the joint. Proper diagnosis is crucial to implement appropriate treatment to stop the further degeneration of the tissue. Usually the assessment is performed by using magnetic resonance. This paper describes the design and application of an alternative measurement system for vibroartography of the knee joint. The use of such device allows for fast, safe, easy and cheap assessment of joint condition, which in turn can lead to proper treatment planning. Similar portable systems can be rapidly deployed and used by entry level medical staff in hospitals, clinics or at patient’s home. The system consists of an orthosis, set of three vibroacoustic sensors, encoder for reading knee position, microcontroller with galvanic barrier and battery power and a computer for data storage and processing. The system is light, simple and portable. Data is recorded in both closed and open kinematic chains. Results show over 90% diagnostic accuracy based on the data obtained in the process of testing this device. In the future, the system will be further miniaturized and completely placed on the orthosis, leading to more portability and diagnostic merit.
