To solve the problem of large difference degree in multi-dimensional urban landscape design, a multidimensional urban landscape design method based on nonlinear theory is proposed. Research on multidimensional nonlinear landscape design methods in improving the rationality of architectural landscape design and improving the living environment is important for optimizing the structure of multidimensional nonlinear landscape design and improving the effect of urban landscape design. Firstly, according to the input and output data of the system, the multidimensional nonlinear landscape image is sampled, the virtual scene space visual planning method is used to simulate the parameters of the multidimensional nonlinear landscape design, and the block detection method is used to reconstruct the region of the multidimensional nonlinear landscape image. Combined with RGB feature decomposition method, the parameter vectorized feature extraction of multidimensional nonlinear landscape design was carried out, and the parameterized model of multidimensional nonlinear landscape view was extracted. Based on the parameterized model method, the multidimensional nonlinear landscape design is realized, and the quantitative analysis ability of multidimensional nonlinear landscape design is improved. The simulation results show that the mean of regression standard deviation is 0.567, the standard value is 0.753, and the F-test value is 0.655. Therefore, the visual feature expression ability of multidimensional nonlinear landscape design using the proposed method is better and the effect of landscape design is improved.

The HY-2D satellite was successfully launched in 2022, which marks the first phase of the HY-2 satellite constellation. In order to reduce the deviation of wet path delay (WPD) between different satellites in the HY-2 satellite constellation and increase precision in the correction microwave radiometer (CMR) products, on-orbit calibration must be performed to the brightness temperature (BT) of the CMR in this constellation. This study describes the principle and process of on-orbit calibration for CMR in detail. For the three satellites of the HY-2 satellite constellation, after cross-matching with each other within a limited spatio-temporal range, the HY-2B satellite with sounding on the global ocean is selected to the calibration source, calibrating BT from the CMR of the HY-2C and HY-2D satellites to the BT dimension of the HY-2B satellite CMR. To check on-orbit calibration, a retrieval algorithm is built using atmospheric profile data from ECMWF and BT data, obtained from the CMR of the HY-2B satellite; this is used to calculate the atmospheric water vapor (AWV) and WPD from the HY-2 satellite constellation. After on-orbit calibration to the CMRs of the HY-2 satellite constellation, the deviation between the CMR products of different satellites is significantly reduced by over 20%, and the RMS of WPD for the same type of products from the Jason-3 satellite is less than 1 cm. It may be concluded that on-orbit calibration improves the accuracy of AWV and WPD by normalizing the BT dimension for CMRs of the HY-2 satellite constellation, so this calibration method is effective and credible for enhancing the quality of altimeter products in the HY-2 satellite constellation. China's first dynamic environment satellite constellation includes the HY-2B, HY-2C, and HY-2D satellites. In this study, the along track SLA, SWH, and SSWS of this satellite constellation were evaluated. SLA parameters are evaluated using self-crossing and dual-crossing methods. The SSWS and SWH data were evaluated by comparing with NDBC buoy and other available satellites' data. The evaluation revealed that the standard deviation of the SLA from the HY-2B/C/D satellites' single mission crossovers was 3.29 cm, 3.51 cm, and 3.72 cm, respectively. In addition, at the dual-crossovers of the Jason-3 satellite and the HY-2B satellite, the HY-2B satellite, and the HY-2C/D satellites, the standard deviation was determined to be 3.40 cm, 3.48 cm, and 4.25 cm, respectively. The accuracy of the SWH products of the HY-2B/C/D satellite radar altimeters was observed to be 0.23 m, 0.25 m, and 0.26 m, respectively. The accuracy of the SSWS data of the HY-2B/C/D satellite radar altimeters was observed to be 1.48 m/s, 1.59 m/s, and 1.35 m/s, respectively. In addition, this study also analyzed and compared the observation efficiency of the dynamic environment satellite constellation with the following six satellites: Sentinel-3(A, B), Jason-3, Sentinel-6A, Saral, and Cryosat-2. Observation efficiency refers to selection of any point on the globe to find a minimum radius of at least one observation point within a circle in a 14-day period. Wind measurement using spaceborne scatterometers has been used for various scientific and operational purposes. However, the major problem of such measurements is contamination by rain. To improve the wind measurement using the HY-2A scatterometer under rainy conditions, a neural network-based model was established in this study. The model is almost autonomous in that it only needs the backscatter coefficient measurement data and the observation geometry information from the HY-2A scatterometer itself. The model can distinguish between rain-contaminated wind pixels and rain-free wind pixels and significantly improve the accuracy of wind speed measurements using HY-2A scatterometer alone. TAO data and linearly calibrated ECMWF data were used in the study to validate the neural network-inverted wind speed. Under no rain conditions, the RMS of the neural network-inverted wind speed and TAO wind speed was 1.06 m/s, with a deviation of −0.21 m/s, which is a small difference from the standard method inverted wind speed. Under rain conditions, the RMS and deviation were 1.94 m/s and 0.66 m/s, respectively, which were better than the statistical results of the conventional maximum likelihood estimation method. This research and collaboration work aims at the calibration and validation (Cal/Val) of the Chinese HY-2B satellite altimeter based upon two permanent Cal/Val facilities: (1) the China Altimetry Calibration Cooperation Plan in Qingdao, Bohai Sea and the Wanshan islands, China and (2) the permanent facility for altimetry calibration established by the European Space Agency in Crete, Greece. The HY-2B satellite altimeter and its radiometer have been calibrated and monitored using uniform, standardized procedures, as well as protocols and best practices, and they also built upon trusted and indisputable reference standards at both Cal/Val infrastructures in Europe and China. The HY-2B altimeter is thus monitored in a coordinated, absolute, homogeneous, long-term and worldwide manner. Calibration of altimeters is accomplished by examining satellite observations in open seas against reference measurements. Comparisons are established through precise satellite positioning, water level observations, GPS buoys and reference models (geoid, mean dynamic topography, earth tides, troposphere and ionosphere), all defined at the Cal/Val sites. In this work, the final uncertainty for the altimeter bias will be attributed to several individual sources of uncertainty, coming from observations in water level, atmosphere, absolute positioning, reference surface models, transfer of heights from Cal/Val sites to satellite observations, etc. Through this project, the procedures, protocols and best practices, originally developed in the course of the ESA FRM4ALT project, are updated, upgraded and followed at both Cal/Val facilities in Europe and China. With the continuous development of the China ocean dynamic environment satellite series (Haiyang-2, HY-2), it is urgent to explore the potential application of HY-2B in Arctic sea ice thickness retrievals. In this study, we first derive the Arctic radar freeboard and sea ice thickness during two cycles (from October 2019 to April 2020 and from October 2020 to April 2021) using the HY-2B radar altimeter and compare the results with the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) CryoSat-2 (CS-2) products. We evaluate our HY-2B sea ice freeboard and thickness products using Operation IceBridge (OIB) airborne data and Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite 2 (ICESat-2) products. Finally, we estimate the uncertainties in the HY-2B sea ice freeboard and sea ice thickness. Here, we derive the radar freeboard by calculating the difference between the relative elevation of the floe obtained by subtracting the mean sea surface (MSS) height and sea surface height anomaly (SSHA) determined by an average of the 15 lowest points method. The radar freeboard deviation between HY-2B and CS-2 is within 0.02 m, whereas the sea ice thickness deviation between HY-2B and CS-2 is within 0.2 m. The HY-2B radar freeboards are generally thicker than AWI CS-2, except in spring (March and April). A spring segment likely has more floe points than an early winter segment. We also find that the deviations in radar freeboard and sea ice thickness between HY-2B and CS-2 over multiyear ice (MYI) are larger than those over first-year ice (FYI). The correlation between HY-2B (CS-2) sea ice freeboard retrievals and OIB values is 0.77 (0.84), with a root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.13 (0.10) m and a mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.12 (0.081) m. The correlation between HY-2B (CS-2) sea ice thickness retrievals and OIB values is 0.65 (0.80), with an RMSE of 1.86 (1.00) m and an MAE of 1.72 (0.75) m. The HY-2B sea ice freeboard uncertainty values range from 0.021 to 0.027 m, while the uncertainties in the HY-2B sea ice thickness range from 0.61 to 0.74 m. The future work will include reprocessing the HY-2B L1 data with a dedicated sea ice retracker, and using the radar waveforms to directly identify leads to release products that are more reasonable and suitable for polar sea ice thickness retrieval. The Chinese new marine dynamic environment satellite HY-2D was launched on 19 May 2021, carrying a Ku-band scatterometer (named HSCAT-D). In this study, wind products observed by the HSCAT-D were validated by comparing with wind data from the U.S. National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) buoys and European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) model. The statistical results show that the HSCAT-D winds have a good agreement with the buoys' wind measurements: in comparison with buoy winds, the wind speed standard deviation (STD) and root-mean-squared errors (RMSE) of direction were 0.78 m/s and 14.10°, respectively. Other scatterometers' wind data are also employed for comparisons, including the HY-2B scatterometer (HSCAT-B), HY-2C scatterometer (HSCAT-C), and MetOp-B scatterometer (ASCAT-B) winds. The statistical results indicate that errors for HSCAT-D winds are smaller than HSCAT-C but a little bit larger than HSCAT-B. The spectral analysis shows that the HSCAT-D wind products contain less small-scale information than ASCAT-B. Moreover, the Extended Triple Collocation (ETC) results show that the HSCAT-D wind product is of good quality and well-calibrated. A global ocean observing system for the physical climate system, comprising both in situ and satellite components, was conceived largely at the Ocean Observations conference in St. Raphael, France, in October 1999. It was recognized that adequate information was not available on the state of the world ocean or its regional variations to address a range of important societal needs. Subsequent work by the marine carbon community and others in the ocean science and operational communities led to an agreed international plan described in the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) Implementation Plan (GCOS-92, 2004). This foundation observing system was designed to meet climate requirements, but also supports weather prediction, global and coastal ocean prediction, marine hazard warning systems, transportation, marine environment and ecosystem monitoring, and naval applications. Here, we describe efforts made to reach the goals set out in the international plan. Thanks to these efforts, most of the ice-free ocean above 2000 m is now being observed systematically for the first time, and a global repeat hydrographic survey and selected transport measurements supplement these networks.The system is both integrated and composite. It depends upon in situ and satellite networks that measure the same variable using different sensors. In this way, optimum use is made of all available platforms and sensors to maximize coverage and attain maximum accuracy. Wherever feasible, observations are transmitted in real time or near real time to maximize their utility, from short-term ocean forecasting to estimation of century-long trends. Because our historical knowledge of oceanic variability is limited, we are learning about the sampling requirements and needed accuracies as the system is implemented and exploited. The system will evolve as technology and knowledge improve. The biggest challenge for the greater oceanographic community—including both research and operational components—will be demonstrating impacts and benefits sufficient to justify the funds needed to complete the observing system, as well as to sustain its funding for the long term.

Global sea level rise is both a major indicator and consequence of global warming. At present, global warming is causing sea level rise in two main ways: one is the thermal expansion of sea water, and the other is the injection of large amounts of fresh water into the ocean after glaciers and ice sheets melt. In this paper, satellite altimeter data are used to study the total changes of global sea level from 2002 to 2020. Different from most previous studies, this study proposes a calculation method of sea level anomaly using only the along track altimetry data, which is similar to considering the satellite points as tide gauges, in order to avoid the error caused by interpolation in the map data. In addition, GRACE satellite data are used to calculate the changes of global sea level caused by water increase; temperature and salinity data are used to calculate the changes from ocean thermal expansion. Next, using satellite altimetry data, the calculation results show that the global sea level rise rate in the period of 2002–2020 is 3.3 mm/a. During this period, the sea level change caused by the increase of sea water calculated with GRACE satellite data is 2.07 mm/a, and that caused by the thermal expansion of seawater is 0.62 mm/a. In the context of global warming, sea ice changes have received increasing attention as 'indicators' and 'amplifiers' of climate change. With the development of satellite altimeters, satellite altimeter technologies have been increasingly used to retrieve Arctic sea ice thicknesses and have achieved rapid development and application. At present, the CryoSat-2 radar altimeter and Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) laser altimeter are the main data sources used in Arctic sea ice thickness retrievals. With the continuous development of the China Ocean Dynamic Environment Satellite Series (HY-2), it is of great significance to explore the potential application of this dataset in Arctic sea ice thickness retrievals. In this study, we first estimated the Arctic radar freeboard and sea ice thickness values during two sea ice growing cycles (from October 2019 to April 2020 and from October 2020 to April 2021) using the China HY-2B radar altimeter and then compared the results with the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) CryoSat-2 sea ice freeboard and sea ice thickness products recorded during the same period. The accuracies of the HY-2B radar freeboard and sea ice thickness were then verified with the Operation IceBridge (OIB) airborne data and ICESat-2 laser altimeter data, and the random uncertainties in the HY-2B sea ice freeboard and sea ice thickness results were finally estimated. Although the spatial distributions of the HY-2B radar freeboard and sea ice thickness results agreed well with those of AWI CryoSat-2, the deviation between the HY-2B radar freeboard and CryoSat-2 radar freeboard data was within 2 cm, while the deviation between the HY-2B sea ice thickness data and CryoSat-2 sea ice thickness data was within 0.2 m. In addition, the growth trends of the HY-2B radar freeboard and sea ice thickness were slower than those of AWI CryoSat-2. This finding was related to the applied sea surface height anomaly (SSHA) extraction method. Comparisons with the OIB sea ice freeboard and sea ice thickness values recorded in April 2019 showed that the correlation between the HY-2B sea ice freeboard retrievals and OIB sea ice freeboard data was 0.58, the root mean square error (RMSE) was 0.17 m, and the mean absolute error (MAE) was 0.14 m. The correlation between the HY-2B sea ice thickness retrieval and OIB sea ice thickness data was 0.41, the RMSE was 2.05 m, and the MAE was 1.91 m. Based on the Gaussian error propagation theory, we estimated the uncertainties of the HY-2B sea ice freeboard and sea ice thickness data: the uncertainty of the former ranged from 8.5 cm to 12.0 cm, while the uncertainty of the latter ranged from 26.8 cm to 37.7 cm. Due to the influence of the SSHA uncertainty (σSSA) and the number of observation points inside the grid, the uncertainties in the HY-2B sea ice freeboard and sea ice thickness data were higher at low latitudes than at high latitudes. Scientometric reviews, facilitated by computational and visual analytical approaches, allow researchers to gain a thorough understanding of research trends and areas of concentration from a large number of publications. With the fast development of satellite altimetry, which has been effectively applied to a wide range of research topics, it is timely to summarize the scientific achievements of the previous 50 years and identify future trends in this field. A comprehensive overview of satellite altimetry was presented using a total of 8541 publications from the Web of Science Core Collection covering the years from 1970 to 2021. We begin by presenting the fundamental statistical results of the publications, such as the annual number of papers, study categories, countries/regions, afflictions, journals, authors, and keywords, in order to provide a comprehensive picture of satellite altimetry research. We discuss the co-occurrence of the authors in order to reveal the global collaboration network of satellite altimetry research. Finally, we utilised co-citation networks to detect the development trend and associated crucial publications for various specific topics. The findings show that satellite altimetry research has been changed immensely during the last half-century. The United States, France, China, England, and Germany made the most significant contributions in the field of satellite altimetry. The analysis reveals a clear link between technology advancements and the trend in satellite altimetry research. As a result, wide swath altimetry, GNSS-reflectometry, laser altimetry, terrestrial hydrology, and deep learning are among the most frontier study subjects. Haiyang-2D (HY-2D) is the fourth satellite in the marine dynamic satellite series established by China. It was successfully launched on 19 May 2021, marking the era of the 3-satellite network in the marine dynamic environment satellite series of China. The satellite's precision orbit determination (POD) and validations are of great significance for ocean warning and marine altimetry missions. HY-2D is equipped with a laser reflector array (LRA), a satellite-borne Doppler Orbitography and Radiopositioning Integrated by Satellite (DORIS) receiver, and a satellite-borne dual-frequency GPS receiver named HY2 that was independently developed in China. In this paper, the quality of GPS data collected by the HY2 is analyzed based on indicators such as the multipath effect, cycle slips, and data completeness. The results suggest that the receiver can be used in POD missions involving low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellites. The precise orbits of HY-2D are determined by the reduced-dynamics (RD) method. Apart from POD, validation of orbit accuracy is another important task for LEO POD. Therefore, two external validation methods are proposed, including carrier differential validation using one GPS satellite and inter-satellite differential validation using two GPS satellites. These are based on space-borne carrier-phase data, and the GPS satellites used for POD validation do not participate in orbit determination. The results of SLR range validation cannot illustrate the orbit accuracy in x, y, and z directions particularly, so to make validation results more intuitive, the SLR three-dimensional (3D) validation is proposed based on SLR range validation, and the RMSs in x, y, and z directions are 2.66, 3.32, and 2.69 cm, respectively. The results of SLR 3D validation are the same as those of SLR range validation, which proves that the new external validation method provided by SLR 3D is reliable. The RMSs of carrier differential validation and inter-satellite differential validation are 0.68 and 1.06 cm, respectively. The proposed validation methods are proved to be reliable. Under low to medium wind speeds and no rainfall, the retrieved vector wind from a scatterometer is accurate and reliable. However, under high wind conditions, the currently used geophysical model function (GMF), such as NSCAT-2, for wind vector retrieval has the disadvantage of overestimating the backscattering coefficient, which leads to a decrease in the quality of the retrieved ocean surface winds. To enhance the wind retrieval precision of the HY-2A scatterometer under high wind conditions, a new GMF for high wind (HW-GMF) is established by using the neural network method based on the backscattering coefficient data of the HY-2A scatterometer combined with the wind speed data of the Special Sensor Microwave Imager (SSM/I) and the Final (FNL) operational global analysis wind direction data from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). The absolute value of the mean deviation between the predicted σ0 by the HW-GMF and the measured σ0 by the HY-2A scatterometer is less than 0.1 dB, indicating that the HW-GMF has high accuracy. To verify the HW-GMF performance, the wind field inversion accuracy of the HW-GMF is compared with that of the NSCAT-2 GMF, a GMF currently used in the data processing of the HY-2A scatterometer. The experimental results show that the deviation between the HW-GMF retrieved wind speed and the SSM/I wind speed is within 2 m/s in the high wind speed range of 15–35 m/s, indicating that the HW-GMF improves the precision of the wind speed inversion of the HY-2A scatterometer under high wind speed conditions. Calibration and validation (Cal/Val) of the sea surface height as measured by satellite radar altimeters is essential to understand altimeter biases, observation trends, and instrument aging. It also supports the long-term stability of the produced climate change records of sea level as determined by altimetry. In this article, we report the calibration of HY-2B and Jason-2/3 using the established research infrastructure and data sharing initiative introduced by the Altimetry Calibration Cooperation Plan (ACCP) of China. Currently, three ACCP calibration sites encompass the Wanshan Islands, and two national oceanic sites are located along the China coastline. For each Cal/Val site, the components of the facilities—the geodetic, sea level, and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) infrastructure—and the followed monitoring procedures and calibration methods are described. The HY-2B performance was primarily evaluated using about two years data, which indicated a mean bias of −0.2 ± 4.2 cm. Confidence in the results is strong, because the HY-2B biases were cross compared and confirmed by all the three independent sites and the three satellite ground tracks. Compared with its predecessor HY-2A, HY-2B shows very stable observations with no linear drift at present. In addition, Jason-2 and Jason-3 were mainly assessed using Qianliyan site. Our results indicate that the Jason-3 sea-surface height bias is approximately 2–3 cm smaller than that of Jason-2 and that the long-term stability of Jason-2/3 shows no significant trend, which in good agreement with the international dedicated sites. The instrument noises of Jason-2/3 and HY-2B were estimated based on the ACCP sites. The results show that the instrument noise in the previous literature is underestimated. This was also consolidated by the result from wavenumber spectrum and global crossover point analysis. Over the past 60 years, China has made fruitful achievements in the field of ocean microwave remote sensing satellite technology. A long-term plan has now been formulated for the development of Chinese ocean satellites, as well as the construction of a constellation of ocean dynamic environmental and ocean surveillance satellites. These will gradually form China's ocean monitoring network from space, thereby playing important roles in future ocean resource and environmental monitoring, marine disaster prevention and reduction, and global climate change. In this review manuscript, the developmental history of ocean microwave satellites and the development status of oceanic microwave remote sensing satellites in China are reviewed. In addition, China's achievements in the field of oceanic microwave remote sensing satellite technology are summarized, and the future development of China's ocean microwave remote sensing satellite program is analysed. GaoFen-3 (GF-3) is a C-band multipolarization synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite with 12 imaging modes. However, its initial positioning accuracy remains unsatisfactory, thereby hindering its use for large-area surveying and mapping. This study proposes a block orthorectification method without ground control points (GCPs) using the GF-3 Fine strip II (FSII) mode. To address the challenges with the accuracy and efficiency of this method, an integrated block orthorectification method was developed to conduct integrated processing of large-scale GF-3 satellite images without GCPs. Geometric calibration was used to improve the absolute positioning accuracy of each SAR image. Then, several tie points (TPs) were extracted using the SAR scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) operator. A parallel matching strategy was used in the block images registration. The block adjustment model was constructed to solve the orientation parameter of all SAR images. The experimental results of 1,468 GF-3 images of China’s entire land area show a TPs root-mean-square error of 0.724 pixel and 8.014 m for the independent checkpoint, suggesting that the proposed method can effectively improve the geometric accuracy of GF-3 satellite images and demonstrate the feasibility of large-scale SAR mapping without GCPs. Seven satellite scatterometers, namely, the C-band MetOp-A/Advanced Scatterometer (ASCAT), MetOp-B/ASCAT, MetOp-C/ASCAT, Ku-band HY-2A/SCAT, HY-2B/SCAT, Chinese-French Oceanography Satellite (CFOSAT)/SCAT, and SCATSAT-1/OceanSat Satellite Scatterometer (OSCAT2), are operating in orbits. These satellites make a high-frequency observation of sea surface winds possible, particularly at high latitudes. This work analyzes the passing time, passing frequency, coverage of these seven scatterometers, and the quality of high-latitude surface wind products. All the scatterometer wind products were reproduced with the same processing procedures, in terms of backscatter calibration, wind retrieval, numerical weather prediction (NWP) wind, and quality control. The target region (74–78 N, 167°–171 W) was chosen to analyze the passing frequency. A spatial grid of $0.25^{\circ } \times 0$.25° in the range of 60° N–88° N was chosen to analyze the spatial coverage of the scatterometers. The results show that more than 40 observation times can be provided daily by all the seven scatterometers; however, there is a 9-h gap between UTC 9:00 and UTC 18:00, suggesting that international cooperation is needed for optimizing the equatorial crossing time in future scatterometer missions, such that an optimal virtual scatterometer constellation can be achieved. The scatterometer winds are compared with the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) Reanalysis 5th Generation (ERA5) winds, and with each other. The Chinese ocean color and temperature scanner (COCTS) onboard the HY-1C satellite was launched on September 7, 2018, and has been providing global multispectral Earth observation data as a new spaceborne sensor for ocean color detection since September 10, 2018. In this study, an atmospheric correction algorithm using a composite of the algorithms developed by Wang and Gordon (1994) and He et al. (2004) and a chlorophyll-a concentration retrieval method that is a composite of the OC4 and color index (CI) algorithms are used to derive the global chlorophyll-a concentration from COCTS. The retrieval products are validated against in situ data measured in the East China Sea and the South China Sea during the in-orbit testing activity for the HY-1C satellite with an unbiased percentage difference (UPD) of 39%, and the data are also validated against the Aerosol Robotic Network-Ocean Color (AERONET-OC) data with a UPD of 39%. The daily global chlorophyll-a concentration from COCTS with a gridded resolution of 9.2 km and a time period from September 10, 2018 to February 29, 2020 is compared with the same products from MODIS and VIIRS. The UPDs of COCTS against MODIS onboard Terra are approximately 20%, and the mean biases (in logarithm form) are approximately zero. Examples of chlorophyll-a concentration retrieval results in specific cases along the eastern coast of China and the Kuroshio Current are also presented to show the performance of the algorithms used in this study. The HY-2B scatterometer (HSCAT-B) has now completed a one-year orbit. The instrument was declared operational after six months of in-orbit testing. The ocean wind field products are routinely being made available to the global science community. The HY-2B will work with the HY-2A to provide the Ku-band sea surface observations on a long-term scale, and this collaboration is expected to be important for disaster prevention and mitigation, as well as globally focused climate change research. However, to obtain reasonable evaluations of the system’s functional, performance, and instrument stability results, the temperature, internal calibration parameters, attitude angles, and normalized radar cross section (NRCS) of the instrument were rigorously analyzed during the in-orbit tests. This study provided an overview of the six-month in-orbit testing process results. The temperature levels of some important parts of the scatterometer were found to meet the design requirements. The internal calibration and noise power had shown similar trends and were both within the normal range. The attitude angles, which mainly included the roll and pitch, had displayed variations within a very small scope. The evaluation results of the Amazon rainforest observations indicated that the scatterometer instrument had met all the design requirements and had established a good database for geophysical processing. Model-based incoherent polarimetric decomposition is a frequently used technique to analyze multilook data of polarimetric synthetic aperture radars (POLSARs). The purpose of this study is to analyze and compare different model-based incoherent polarimetric decomposition algorithms from the polarimetric information change aspect. For the input of a model-based incoherent polarimetric decomposition algorithm, polarimetric entropy was used to represent the polarimetric information of a coherency matrix. For the output of a model-based incoherent polarimetric decomposition algorithm, there are usually several decomposed components. To quantitatively represent their total polarimetric information, a new concept, generalized polarimetric entropy, was proposed which generalized the concept of polarimetric entropy based on the information entropy additivity of information theory. Generalized polarimetric entropy consists of two parts named as polarimetric power entropy and polarimetric residual entropy, respectively. Polarimetric power entropy describes the distribution status of the Span values of all decomposed components. Polarimetric residual entropy represents the residual randomness of all decomposed components. With the three new concepts, eight model-based incoherent polarimetric decomposition algorithms were compared and analyzed. Two real POLSAR images, respectively, derived by the E-SAR airborne system of Germany and the GF-3 satellite of China were used for the experiments. Ocean color satellite sensors have become an indispensable component in the Earth Observing System, in which the use of multiple ocean color satellite sensors not only improves the spatiotemporal coverage of the global oceans but also maintains the continuity of the data products for long-term monitoring. In this research, the performance of a new ocean color satellite sensor Chinese Ocean Color and Temperature Scanner (COCTS) from HY1C launched in September 2018 is thoroughly evaluated with two important aspects: the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the top of the atmosphere and the uncertainty in the remote-sensing reflectance ${R} _{\mathrm {rs}}$) products. The results showed that the SNR of the COCTS can satisfy the requirements of the ocean color applications, and the uncertainty in the ${R} _{\mathrm {rs}}$ at the blue bands in the ocean waters meets the demand of less than 5%. A further comparison with other well-known ocean color sensors indicates that not only the COCTS can provide reliable ocean color data but also the processing system is robust and reliable. These results provide a solid base for merging the COCTS products with other ocean color sensors for the studies of ocean biogeochemistry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
