Abstract

Proton exchange membrane water electrolyser (PEMWE) possesses great significance for the production of high purity of hydrogen. To expedite the anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) that involved multiple electron–proton‐coupled process, efficient and stable electrocatalysts are highly desired. Currently, noble‐metal Ir‐based materials are the benchmark anode due to its corrosion‐resistant property and favourable combination of activity/stability. However, the large‐scale deployment of PEMWE is usually constrained due to the use of the scarcest element iridium. In this review, we disclose the current research progress towards the non‐iridium‐based electrocatalysts for OER in acidic media, and then summarize some typical oxides that possesses good catalytic performance. Besides, we also present the unresolved problems and challenges in an attempt to enhance the activity/stability of these catalysts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Frost damage to concrete can make concrete beams more vulnerable under seismic forces. However, research on the seismic performance of frost-damaged reinforced concrete (RC) beams is still in its infancy. In this paper, the effects of freeze–thaw cycles (FTCs) and concrete strength on the seismic performance of frost-damaged RC beams are studied using an artificial rapid freeze–thaw climate and pseudo–static test in sequence. The seismic resistance of frost-damaged RC beams is assessed in the following respects: general damage behavior and failure pattern, hysteresis response, displacement, strength, cumulative energy consumption, and shear component. It turns out that, with the increase in the number of FTCs (NFTCs), the load and displacement under different characteristic states, ductility ratio, and cumulative energy consumption decrease stage by stage, while the shear distortion and the contribution of shear displacement under the entire cyclic loading process are progressively enhanced. Simultaneously, the strength of the cracking point is more susceptible to FTC action than to yield and peak points, and the declining rate of strength under different characteristic points gradually increases. Based on the test results, a calculation formula for the skeleton curve of frost-damaged RC beam–column is established, taking the influences of the pristine concrete strength, NFTCs, and axial force ratio into account.

Abstract

The study aims to research the influence of salt fog corrosion cycles on seismic performance of reinforced concrete (RC) frame beam-column joints in coastal atmosphere. Based on low cyclic loading tests of six RC frame beam-column joint specimens, this study analyses the failure patterns, hysteresis loops, load carrying capacity, displacement, backbone curves, and energy dissipation capacity of corrosion-damaged RC frame beam-column joints. The effect of salt fog corrosion cycles and axial compression ratios are tested repeatedly. The results show that with the same level of axial compression of the frame joint specimens, as the increase of salt fog cycles, the strength, ductility, energy dissipation, bearing capacity, and deformation capacity of joints degenerated to different degrees． When the corrosion level is the same, the stiffness degradation appeared to be more apparent as the increase of axial compression ratio. Then, the behavior degeneration rule of the RC frame beam-column joints is analyzed and formed according to the results of the test; the degeneration restoring force models of corroded RC frame beam-column joints is formed and verified based on Clough’s three-line degenerate restoring force model and the introduction to cyclic degeneration index. The results show that the restoring force model can better describe the hysteresis characteristics of the beam-column joints of corroded RC frames. The research is a theoretical reference for the seismic analysis of the RC frame structure affected by coastal atmospheric environment.
