This paper provides a revised faunal checklist for the subfamilies, tribes, subtribes, genera and species of the family Cicadidae (Insecta: Hemiptera) from Mindanao, Philippines, comprising 31 species belonging to 19 genera. A new genus, Neopurana Lee and Marshall gen. nov., and nine new species, Platypleura bella Lee and A. Mohagan sp. nov., Platypleura minima Lee and Marshall sp. nov., Chremistica flavialata Lee and Marshall sp. nov., Oncotympana obesa Lee and Marshall sp. nov., Neopurana bouptera Lee and Marshall sp. nov., Purana mindanaoensis Lee and Marshall sp. nov., Mogannia tenebrosa Lee and Marshall sp. nov., Philipsalta exilis Lee and Marshall sp. nov. and Philipsalta lata Lee and Marshall sp. nov., are described. Platypleura transitiva Lee, 2021 is newly added to the list of cicadas from Mindanao. Male calling songs are illustrated and described for all new species. This new genus is morphologically similar to Tanna Distant, 1905 but distinguished from Tanna by the timbal cover exposing the inner part of timbal, the male abdominal epipleurite 3 with a distinct oblique linear fold, the male abdominal sternites without tubercle-like projections, and the aedeagus bifurcate at the apex. The cicadas (Hemiptera: Cicadidae) related to tribe Cicadini exhibit some of the most remarkable phenotypes in the family, with many genera possessing striking colour patterns and unusual morphological features. This largely Asian group of 13 tribes has proven challenging for cicada taxonomists, in part because of likely convergent evolution or losses of these phenotypes. We present the first focused molecular phylogeny of this clade, including ~60 described genera. The genetic dataset contains 839 ingroup-informative sites (out of 2575) from mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I, nuclear elongation factor-1 α, and nuclear acetyltransferase. We use Bayesian and maximum likelihood trees to test recent changes in tribe- and subtribe-level classification, and we reconstruct ancestral character states for potentially convergent traits influencing tribe descriptions. We use fossil and molecular clock calibrations to estimate the temporal and geographic context of the radiation. The tribes Gaeanini, Leptopsaltriini, Platypleurini, Psithyristriini, and Tosenini appear polyphyletic and in need of revision, in part because of convergent evolution of opaque wings and multiple convergent gains or losses of abdominal tubercles. Kalabita Moulton, 1923 is transferred from Platypleurini to Leptopsaltriini. Vittagaeana gen. nov. is established for Vittagaeana paviei comb. nov. and Vittagaeana dives comb. nov. , formerly in Tosena. Sinosenini syn. nov. is synonymised with Dundubiina. Ayuthiini trib. nov. is established with two new subtribes for Ayuthia Distant, 1919 and Distantalna Boulard, 2009, formerly in Tosenini. For the earliest split in the tree, one common ancestor appears to have been Indian + Asian in geographic distribution and the other Asian. We estimate that the radiation began in the middle Cenozoic Era, possibly as recently as the early Miocene. It is demonstrated in this paper that silica nanoparticles coated with core/shell gold provide efficient thermal, optical, and morphological properties with respect to the cellulose-polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) hybrid system. The one-step synthesis of a silica/gold nanocomposite is achieved with a simultaneous hydrolysis and reduction of gold chloride in the presence of formic acid, and the trimethoxysilane group acts as a silica precursor. The focus here comprises the synthesis of cellulose-POSS and silica/gold hybrid nanocomposites using the following two methods: (1) an in situ sol-gel process and (2) a polyvinyl alcohol/tetrakis (hydroxymethyl)phosphonium chloride process. Accordingly, the silica/gold core/shell nanoparticles are synthesized. The growth and attachment of the gold nanoparticles onto the functionalized surface of the silica at the nanometer scale is achieved via both the sol-gel and the tetrakis (hydroxymethyl) phosphonium chloride processes. The cellulose-POSS-silica/gold nanocomposites are characterized according to Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy, Raman, X-ray diffraction, UV, photoluminescence, SEM, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, TEM, thermogravimetric, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analyses. Abstract: A new cicada genus and species, Minilomia triquetra, gen. and sp. nov., is described from Borneo. The new genus Minilomia is closely allied to Platylomia Stål and is placed in the subtribe Dundubiina of the tribe Cicadini. Another new cicada species, Pomponia brevicaudata, sp. nov. (subtribe Psithyristriina), is described from Java and Sumatra. The new species belongs to the Pomponia linearis species group and the P. linearis species complex but is distinguished from its congeners by the unusually short male abdomen. Two new cicada genera and species, Paratanna parata gen. et sp. n. and Subtibicina tigris gen. et sp. n., are described from India. Paratanna gen. n. is closely related to Tanna Distant, 1905 and is placed in the subtribe Leptopsaltriina of the tribe Cicadini in the subfamily Cicadinae. Subtibicina gen. n. is closely related to Tibicina Amyot, 1847 and is placed in the tribe Tibicinini in the subfamily Tibicininae. Abstract: The cicada genus Semia Matsumura from East Asia is taxonomically reviewed. Pomponia lachna Lei and Chou and Terpnosia majuscula Distant are transferred to Semia to become Semia lachna (Lei and Chou) comb. nov. and Semia majuscula (Distant) comb. nov. Abstract: The genus Terpnosia Distant is newly defined. Terpnosia elegans (Kirby) stat. rev. is resurrected from junior synonymy with Terpnosia psecas (Walker). Seven species are now considered to belong to Terpnosia sensu stricto, including two species currently placed in this genus: T. psecas (Walker) and T. elegans (Kirby) stat. rev. Five species are transferred from Pomponia Stål to Terpnosia: T. polei (Henry) comb. nov., T. lactea (Distant) comb. nov., T. similis (Schmidt) comb. nov., T. simusa (Boulard) comb. nov., and T. graecina (Distant) comb. nov. Yezoterpnosia Matsumura stat. rev. is resurrected from junior synonymy with Terpnosia. Abstract: The tribe Oncotympanini Ishihara, syn. nov. is synonymized with Cicadini Latreille (Hemiptera: Cicadidae). A new subtribe, Oncotympanina Ishihara, stat. nov., is placed within Cicadini for the Philippine genus Oncotympana Stål and a new genus, Neoncotympana Lee, gen. nov. Abstract: Three new cicadas are described from Thailand and Cambodia: Megapomponia atrotunicata Lee and Sanborn, sp. nov., Megapomponia sitesi Sanborn and Lee, sp. nov., and Megapomponia castanea Lee and Sanborn, sp. nov. The Purana abdominalis species group is proposed within the genus Purana Distant, which includes two new species, Purana abdominalis Lee, sp. nov. and Purana nana Lee, sp. nov., from the Philippines. A new genus, Sinotympana, and a new species, Sinotympana incomparabilis, are described from southern China. This genus is allied to the genus Haphsa Distant, 1905 but is distinguished by its much larger and wider body, largely black body coloration, short and wide opercula, longer abdomen, and uncal lobes that are fused together at the base. Abstract: As a result of the review of past literature and the authors'' survey, 148 species of butterflies in the Gwangneung Forest are listed, which has been well known as a natural relic of Korea. Eight species such as Isoteinon lamprospilus Felder and Felder, Favonius cognatus Staudinger, F. korshunovi (Du-batolov and Sergeev), Pseudozizeeria maha (Kollar), Spindasis takanonis Matsumura, Aldania themis (Leech), Argynnis zenobia Leech and Erebia wanga Bremer are newly added to this fauna based on the surveys during 2000-2004. This list incorporates taxonomie changes and corrections in scientific names and the deletion of 11 species erroneously recorded. Abstract: A new species, Tanna aquilonia sp. nov., is described from Xinjiang Uygur, China, which is the northernmost locality ever recorded for the genus TannaDistant, 1905. Fuscous patch on inner one-third of the timbal cover and the considerably bent uncus can distinguish this species from its congeners.
