This article focuses on the intricate nature of the science of tafsir. It discusses the function of tafsir within the framework of identifying the principles of tafsir methodology and tafsir narrations. The book’s contribution to the science of tafsir is emphasized by underlining that it aims to provide essential details for understanding and addressing the subject and comparing classical and modern understandings of tafsir. In addition, the scientific value of tafsir and its relationship with other Islamic sciences is examined. In this study, Inger Furseth and Pål Repstad's book titled Contemporary Sociologists' Views of Society and Religion has been evaluated. Since the aim is to evaluate the book, it is not analysed in detail about the sociologists; it is focused on which conceptual tools of the theorists come to the fore and what kind of contributions they will make to the studies that will examine religious life. In this context, the evaluation text started by criticising the relationship of sociology and sociology of religion with sub-disciplines. Because it is stated by the authors that the approach aiming at the separation of sub-disciplines will lead to an isolated intellectual life. For this reason, it is emphasised in the study that the work is an introductory book that deals with contemporary theorists who open the door to the understanding of social science as a whole. The book underlines the dialectical relationship between life and thought by including chapters examining the biographical and intellectual tradition of ten contemporary sociologists. The authors emphasise that the phenomenon of religion has not been ignored in contemporary sociology, and discuss how studies have been conducted using the conceptual tools of leading theories. This sets an example for new research. In addition, the recommendations given for possible studies that will examine religious life using these conceptual tools serve as a guide for researchers. Günümüz Türk akademisinde kitap değerlendirmeleri önemli bir yere sahip olmaya başladı. Yazarların eleştiri veya takdirlerinin eserin niteliğine göre şekillendiği bu tarz yazılarda tarafsız olabilmek oldukça mühim bir mevzudur. Yakın bir süreçte Oku Okut Yayınları tarafından açık erişimle okuyucuya sunulan Prof. Dr. Muammer İskenderoğlu'nun yazarı olduğu "Kitap Değerlendirmesi Nasıl Yazılır?" adındaki eser, kitap değerlendirmelerinde yol gösterici bir rol üstleneceğini vaat etmektedir. Bu konudaki değerlendirme ilim camiasının takdirine bırakılmakla beraber bu yazı, bahsi geçen kitabın niteliğini ele almaktan ziyade 2. Bölümünün (Örnek Değerlendirme Yazıları) 3. Başlığında (Ömer Faruk Erdoğan Felek’in Felsefesi) şahsıma ve eserlerime yapılan eleştirileri değerlendirecektir.

The subject of this study is the review of the book titled Akitlerde Şart Hürriyeti (Freedom of Provisions in Contracts) written by Mahmut Samar. For this purpose, the book, in this review, is being subjected to a multifaceted analysis taking into account several aspects such as the contents, subject order, the language, the style, the way the subject topics are discussed, the criticisms it received andthe sources it used. Moreover, the shortcomings and weaknesses of the book were pointed out and some suggestions were made to be taken into consideration in subsequent editions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Book reviews have gained significant importance in contemporary Turkish academia. It is important to be impartial in such articles, where the criticism or appreciation of the authors is shaped according to the quality of the work. Recently, the open-access book titled "How to Write a Book Review", authored by Prof. Dr. Muammer İskenderoğlu that has been released by Oku Okut Publications promises to serve as a guiding tool for book reviews. While leaving the overall evaluation of this book to the academic community, this essay will focus on analyzing the criticisms directed towards me and my works in the third heading (Ömer Faruk Erdoğan. Değerlendirmemize konu olan İbn-i Arabî: Kelami Tartışmalar, Sorular, Şüpheler başlıklı kitap altı bölümden oluşmaktadır: "İbn-i Arabî", “Vahdet-i Vücûd Felsefesi”, “İsâ Aleyhisselam ve Firavun’a Yaklaşım”, “Kadın, Din ve Cehenneme Yaklaşım”, “Fikir Kaynakları, Şiâ ve Felsefeyle İlişkisi”, “Tarih Seyrinde İbn-i Arabî ve Tenkidi”. Yazara göre sûfî-filozof olan İbn-i Arabî’yi anlamak için felsefî, tasavvufî ve kelamî okumalar yapmak gerekmektedir. Kendisinin de İbn-i Arabî’yi bu alanlardan okuduğunu fakat kendi çalışma alanıyla ilişkisi nedeniyle kelamî meseleler bağlamında İbn-i Arabî’yi değerlendirmeye çalıştığını belirtir.

A book review is a multifaceted critical analysis of a book and an evaluation on the quality, value/meaning, significance, and contribution of the book to its own subject/field. It is not a report, summary, or advertisement, rather it is a serious scholarly work. Book reviews have certain functions such as, for academics, being aware of the recently published books and saving time by getting an idea about those publications through reading experts’ evaluations about their significance, value, and contributions; for publishers, finding an opportunity for a kind of advertisement of their publications that mostly remain to a limited environment like academia; for authors, receiving a feedback about their books to enable them to improve them in future editions. Although there is not only one right method for book reviews, because they are personal and reflect the reviewer’s personal ideas and remarks, this note makes suggestions on how to compose an ideal book review after providing a brief description of the nature of book reviews and includes some relevant technical notes hoping to be a helpful guide for those who want to write a book review.

Kitap değerlendirme yazısı, bir kitabın ilgili olduğu konudaki/sahadaki yeri, önemi, değeri ve katkısına dair çok yönlü eleştirel analizidir. Bir tanıtım, özet veya reklam olmayıp ciddi akademik bir faaliyettir. Kitap değerlendirmeleri akademisyenler için çalıştıkları veya ilgi duydukları konu(lar)/saha(lar)da yeni çıkan kitaplardan haberdar olma, bu kitapların taşıdıkları önem ve değer ile sahaya yaptıkları katkıya dair bir uzman görüşü almak suretiyle bir kanaat oluşturarak zamandan tasarruf etme; yayınevleri için çoğu zaman akademya gibi sınırlı bir çevre içinde kalan yayınlarının tanıtımının gerçekleşmesi; yazarlar için de yayınına dair bir dönüt alma ve sonraki baskılar için yetkinleştirme imkânı sunma gibi fonksiyonlar icra eder. Kişiselolmaları ve değerlendirenin kişisel fikir ve yorumlarını yansıtması sebebiyle kitap değerlendirme yazıları için tek bir doğru usul bulunmamakla birlikte, bu yazı, kitap değerlendirme yazısı yazmak isteyenler için faydalı bir rehber olma ümidiyle kitap değerlendirme yazılarının mahiyeti ile ilgili kısa bir tasvir sunduktan sonra ideal bir kitap değerlendirme yazısının nasıl oluşturulabileceğine dair öneriler getirmekte ve birtakım teknik notları içermektedir.

Hıristiyanlığın erken dönemlerinden itibaren İsa’nın kimliği ve kişiliği meselesi bu dine dair tartışmaların merkezinde yer almıştır. Bu tartışmalar, Hıristiyanlığın Yahudi olmayanlar arasında hızla yayılmasına bağlı olarak Greko-Romen kültürünün de etkisiyle Hıristiyan entelektüellerin gündemini gittikçe artan bir ölçüde meşgul etmiştir. Söz konusu tartışmalar, 18. yüzyılın ikinci yarısına kadar kristolojik içerikle sınırlı kalmıştır. Dolayısıyla bu döneme kadar daha ziyade İsa’nın “ilahi” ve “kurtarıcı” kimliği üzerinden çözümlemeler üretilmeye çalışılmıştır. Aydınlanma Dönemi’yle birlikte ise Batı’da İsa’nın ilahi portresinin dışında bir de tarihsel şahsiyetinin bulunduğu fark edilmiştir.

Mutluluğun tanımı, mahiyeti ve felsefeyle ilişkisi gibi temel sorunlar, İslâm ahlâk felsefesi geleneğinin hiç şüphesiz en önemli isimleri arasında olan İbn Miskeveyh tarafından sistematik olarak ele alınmıştır. Filozof bu sorunları, hem Tehzibu’l-ahlâk ve Tathiru’l-arak, hem de Tertibu’s-sa’adât ve Menâzilu’l-ulûm adlı eserinde incelemiştir. Bu değerlendirmede Tertibu’s-sa’adât ve Menâzilu’l-ulûm: Mutluluk ve Felsefe adlı eser tanıtılmaya ve incelenmeye çalışılacaktır. İbn Miskeveyh hakkında yapılan çalışmalarda çoğunlukla bu esere yer verilmediği, İslam ahlâk felsefesine dair literatür tarandığında kolaylıkla tespit edilebilir. Titiz bir çalışmanın ürünü olan bu eser, hem mutlulukla felsefe arasındaki ilişkiyi, hem ilimlerle ahlâkın ilişkisini ortaya koyması ve hem de felsefenin bazı sorunlarını ele alması açısından son derece kıymetlidir. Ahlâkın aklî temellerinin ortaya konulduğu bu çalışmada, Aristoteles’in eserlerinin tanıtılarak mantığın ahlâk alanına katkısı da verilmeye çalışılmıştır. Aristoteles geleneğini sürdüren İbn Miskeveyh, bu eserini iki ana bölümde ele almıştır. İlk bölümde mutluluk konusu işlenirken; ikinci bölümde ilimlerin mertebeleri ele alınmıştır.

KİTAP DEĞERLENDİRMESİ: Conversations with Bourdieu: The Johannesburg Moment

Mısırlı tarihçi Abdul Rahman Azzam, Saladin adlı eserinde Selâhaddîn-i Eyyûbî’nin başarısının temel nedenlerini IV. (X.) ve V. (XI.) yüzyıllarda İslam dünyasında ortaya çıkan Sünnî uyanışın siyasî ve entelektüel boyutları bağlamında yeniden değerlendirmektedir. Selâhaddin’in parlak askerî başarılarına dayanan imajının gerçek mirasını anlamada yetersiz kaldığını düşünen Azzam, onun gerçek büyüklüğünün siyasî ve manevi vizyonuna dayandığını iddia etmektedir. Müslüman bir tarihçi tarafından İngilizce kaleme alınan ilk Selâhaddin biyografisi olma özelliğini taşıyan bu kitap, Selâhaddin’in başarısını etkileyen siyasî ve entelektüel arka planı tahlil ederek tarihi Selâhaddin’i efsanevi olandan ayırt etmeyi amaçlamaktadır.

Dedem Bir Kiraz Ağacı; Angela Nanetti tarafından 1998 yılında kaleme alınan ve Türkiye’deki ilk baskısı Günışığı Kitaplığı tarafından 2011 yılında Türkçe Edebiyata kazandırılan bir çocuk romanıdır.Yazar Angela Nanetti; bu alanda kaleme aldığı eserleriyle Hans Christian Andersen, Chronos Ödülü gibi uluslararası prestije sahip ödüller alan ve dünya çapında tanınan bir yazardır. Ayrıca yazar, yaklaşık yirmi dile çevrilen Dedem Bir Kiraz Ağacı adlı eseriyle 2002 yılında Alman Gençlik Edebiyatı Ödülü’ne de aday gösterilmiştir. Angela Nanetti’nin Günışığı Kitaplığı tarafından Türkçe’ye çevrilen başka eserleri de bulunmaktadır. Günışığı Kitaplığı; 1996 yılında kurulan, çocuklar ve gençler için Çağdaş Türk ve Dünya edebiyatından eserler yayınlayarak onların hayatlarına dokunmayı amaç edinen bir yayınevidir.
