As medical research advances and technology rapidly develops, auricular acupuncture has emerged as a point of growing interest. This paper delves into the intricate anatomy of auricular points, their significance and therapeutic principles in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and the underlying mechanisms of auricular acupuncture in contemporary medicine. The aim is to delve deeply into this ancient and mysterious medical tradition, unveiling its multi-layered mysteries in the field of neurostimulation. The anatomical structure of auricular points is complex and delicate, and their unique neurovascular network grants them a special status in neurostimulation therapy. Through exploration of these anatomical features, we not only comprehend the position of auricular points in TCM theory but also provide a profound foundation for their modern medical applications. Through systematic review, we synthesize insights from traditional Chinese medical theory for modern medical research. Building upon anatomical and classical theoretical foundations, we focus on the mechanisms of auricular acupuncture as a unique neurostimulation therapy. This field encompasses neuroregulation, pain management, psychological wellbeing, metabolic disorders, and immune modulation. The latest clinical research not only confirms the efficacy of auricular stimulation in alleviating pain symptoms and modulating metabolic diseases at the endocrine level but also underscores its potential role in regulating patients’ psychological wellbeing. This article aims to promote a comprehensive understanding of auricular acupuncture by demonstrating its diverse applications and providing substantial evidence to support its broader adoption in clinical practice.

AimsThe main objective of this study was to investigate the role and mechanism of acupuncture on anti-nerve injury in the acute phase by regulating mitochondrial energy metabolism via monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK)/peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator 1α (PGC-1α) axis in rat ischemic stroke.Main methodsMiddle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) was established by middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion. One-week of acupuncture was performed during the acute phase of ischemic stroke. The neurological function and brain tissue integrity were evaluated. Mitochondrial function (intracellular ATP level and the activity of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex I) and the level of NADH oxidase (NOX) were detected by enzymatic chemistry. Next, the potential molecular mechanisms were explored by western blotting, fluorescence quantitative PCR and immunohistochemistry method.Key findings(1) Acupuncture treatment for MCAO/R rats showed a significant improvement in the infarcted tissue accompanied by functional recovery in Zea-Longa score and balance beam score outcomes, motor function performances. (2) Acupuncture increased the levels of ATP and mitochondrial respiratory chain complex I, decreased the NOX levels in cerebral ischemia established by suture-occluded method. (3) Acupuncture reduced the necrosis dissolution of neuronal cells and meningeal edema, while promoting angiogenesis. (4) Quantitative immunohistochemical staining results showed acupuncture can increase the expression of AMPK, p-AMPK and the mitochondrial transcription factor PGC-1α, NRF2, TFAM and uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2). Meanwhile, acupuncture treatment up-regulated the expression of the corresponding protein. (5) Subsequently, acupuncture enhanced AMPK phosphorylation as well as the expression of PGC-1α, NRF2, TFAM and UCP2, implicated in mitochondrial synthesis and cellular apoptosis. (6) Finally, injections of AMPK antagonists and activators confirmed AMPK as a therapeutic target for the anti-nerve damage effects of acupuncture.SignificanceAcupuncture intervention relieved ischemic stroke progression in MCAO rats by promoting energy metabolism and mitochondrial biogenesis in the brain and alleviating neuronal apoptosis, which was mediated by eliciting AMPK/PGC-1α axis, among them AMPK is a therapeutic target.

Background: Nuclear protein of the testis (NUT) carcinoma (NC) is a rare type of poorly differentiated carcinoma. The median overall survival is 6.7–9.5 months. Surgery and radiotherapy are the main modalities of treatment. The efficacy of chemotherapy is often overlooked. Case report: A 7-year-old pediatric patient was diagnosed with recurrent NC of the submandibular gland, an uncommon site of NC. The tumor split and contracted following chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide, pirarubicin, cisplatin, ifosfamide, and etoposide. Subsequently, surgery was performed to excise the tumor with negative margins. Three months after the end of the multimodality treatment, the imaging did not show signs of recurrence or metastasis. Conclusion: The chemotherapy regimen of cyclophosphamide, pirarubicin, cisplatin, ifosfamide, and etoposide may be a new attempt to treat NC.

Abstract Background Speech disorders are common dysfunctions in patients with tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) that can diminish their quality of life. There are few studies with multidimensional and longitudinal assessments of speech function in TSCC patients. Methods This longitudinal observational study was conducted at the Hospital of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University, China, from January 2018 to March 2021. A cohort of 92 patients (53 males, age range: 24–77 years) diagnosed with TSCC participated in this study. Speech function was assessed from preoperatively to one year postoperatively using the Speech Handicap Index questionnaire and acoustic parameters. The risk factors for postoperative speech disorder were analyzed by a linear mixed-effects model. A t test or Mann‒Whitney U test was applied to analyze the differences in acoustic parameters under the influence of risk factors to determine the pathophysiological mechanisms of speech disorders in patients with TSCC. Results The incidence of preoperative speech disorders was 58.7%, which increased up to 91.4% after surgery. Higher T stage (P＜0.001) and larger range of tongue resection (P = 0.002) were risk factors for postoperative speech disorders. Among the acoustic parameters, F2/i/decreased remarkably with higher T stage (P = 0.021) and larger range of tongue resection (P = 0.009), indicating restricted tongue movement in the anterior-posterior direction. The acoustic parameters analysis during the follow-up period showed that F1 and F2 were not significantly different of the patients with subtotal or total glossectomy over time. Conclusions Speech disorders in TSCC patients is common and persistent. Less residual tongue volume led to worse speech-related QoL, indicating that surgically restoring the length of the tongue and strengthening tongue extension postoperatively may be important.

Abstract Water evaporation is a ubiquitous and spontaneous phase transition process. The utilization of solar‐driven interface water evaporation that simultaneously obtains clean water and power generation can effectively alleviate people's concerns about fresh water and energy shortages. However, it remains a great challenge to efficiently integrate the required functions into the same device to reduce the complexity of the system and alleviate its dependence on solar energy to achieve full‐time operation. In this work, a multifunctional device based on reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/Mn3O4/Al2O3 composite nanomaterials is realized by an asymmetric strategy for effective solar‐thermal‐electro integration that can induce power generation by water evaporation in the presence/absence of light. Under one sun irradiation, the solar‐driven evaporation rate and output voltage are 1.74 kg m−2 h−1 and 0.778 V, respectively. More strikingly, the nine‐grid evaporation/power generation array integrated with multiple devices in series has the advantages of small volume, large evaporation area, and high power generation, and can light up light‐emitting diodes (LEDs), providing the possibility for large‐scale production and application. Based on the high photothermal conversion efficiency and power production capacity of the RGO/Mn3O4/Al2O3 composite evaporation/generator, it will be a promising energy conversion device for future sustainable energy development and applications.

There are many time series forecasting methods, but there are few research methods for long-term multivariate time series forecasting, which are mainly dominated by a series of forecasting models developed on the basis of a transformer. The aim of this study is to perform forecasting for multivariate time series data and to improve the forecasting accuracy of the model. In the recent past, it has appeared that the prediction effect of linear models surpasses that of the family of self-attention mechanism models, which encourages us to look for new methods to solve the problem of long-term multivariate time series forecasting. In order to overcome the problem that the temporal order of information is easily broken in the self-attention family and that it is difficult to capture information on long-distance data using recurrent neural network models, we propose a matrix attention mechanism, which is able to weight each previous data point equally without breaking the temporal order of the data, so that the overall data information can be fully utilized. We used the matrix attention mechanism as the basic module to construct the frequency domain block and time domain block. Since complex and variable seasonal component features are difficult to capture in the time domain, mapping them to the frequency domain reduces the complexity of the seasonal components themselves and facilitates data feature extraction. Therefore, we use the frequency domain block to extract the seasonal information with high randomness and poor regularity to help the model capture the local dynamics. The time domain block is used to extract the smooth floating trend component information to help the model capture long-term change patterns. This also improves the overall prediction performance of the model. It is experimentally demonstrated that our model achieves the best prediction results on three public datasets and one private dataset.

Regulation of photovoltaic response in multiferroic oxide BFCNT/BFCO heterojunction black silicon photovoltaic devices by polarization and magnetization.

Traffic flow forecasting, as an integral part of intelligent transportation systems, plays a critical part in traffic planning. Previous studies have primarily focused on short-term traffic flow prediction, paying insufficient attention to long-term prediction. In this study, we propose a hybrid model that utilizes variational mode decomposition (VMD) and the auto-correlation mechanism for long-term prediction. In view of the periodic and stochastic characteristics of traffic flow, VMD is able to decompose the data into intrinsic mode functions with different frequencies, which in turn helps the model extract the internal features of the data and better capture the changes of traffic flow data in the cycle. Additionally, we improve the residual structure by adding a convolutional layer to propose a correction module and use it together with the auto-correlation mechanism to jointly build an encoder and decoder to extract features from different data components (intrinsic mode functions) and fuse the extracted features for output. To meet the requirements of long-term forecasting, we set the traffic flow forecast length to 4 levels: 96, 192, 336, and 720. We validated our model using the departure statistics dataset of a taxi parking lot at Beijing Capital International Airport and achieved the best prediction performance in terms of mean squared error and mean absolute error, compared to the baseline model.

After the discovery of bulk photovoltaic effect more than half a century ago, ferro-electrical and magneto-optical experiments have provided insights into various related topics, revealing above bandgap open voltages and non-central symmetrical current mechanisms. However, the nature of the photon-generated carriers responses and their microscopic mechanisms remain unclear. Here, all-inorganic perovskite Bi0.85Gd0.15Fe1−xMnxO3 thin films were prepared by a sol-gel process and the effects of Gd and Mn co-doped bismuth ferrites on their microtopography, grain boundries, multiferroic, and optical properties were studied. We discovered a simple “proof of principle” type new method that by one-step measuring the leakage current, one can demonstrate the value of photo generated current being the sum of ballistic current and shift current, which are combined to form the so-called bulk photovoltaic current, and can be related to the prototype intrinsic properties such as magneto-optical coupling and ferroelectric polarization. This result has significant potential influence on design principles for engineering multiferroic optoelectronic devices and future photovoltaic industry development.

Background: Early diagnosis of tumor metastasis is crucial for clinical treatment. Artificial intelligence (AI) has shown great promise in the field of medicine. We therefore aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of AI algorithms in detecting tumor metastasis using medical radiology imaging. Methods: We searched PubMed and Web of Science for studies published from January 1, 1997, to January 30, 2020. Studies evaluating an AI model for the diagnosis of tumor metastasis from medical images were included. We excluded studies that used histopathology images or medical wave-form data and those focused on the region segmentation of interest. Studies providing enough information to construct contingency tables were included in a meta-analysis. Findings: We identified 2620 studies, of which 69 were included. Among them, 34 studies were included in a meta-analysis with a pooled sensitivity of 82% (95% CI 79–84%), specificity of 84% (82–87%) and AUC of 0·90 (0·87–0·92). Analysis for different AI algorithms showed a pooled sensitivity of 87% (83–90%) for machine learning and 86% (82–89%) for deep learning, and a pooled specificity of 89% (82–93%) for machine learning, and 87% (82–91%) for deep learning. Interpretation: AI algorithms may be used for the diagnosis of tumor metastasis using medical radiology imaging with equivalent or even better performance to health-care professionals, in terms of sensitivity and specificity. At the same time, rigorous reporting standards with external validation and comparison to health-care professionals are urgently needed for AI application in the medical field. Pure bismuth ferrite (BiFeO _3 , BFO) and ZnO thin films, as well as BFO/ZnO and ZnO/BFO composite thin films were successfully deposited by a sol-gel process on Pt/Ti/SiO _2 /Si and FTO/glass substrates, respectively. The chemical composition, surface morphology, optical properties, and multiferroicity were systematically investigated. X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy measurements were used to determine the crystalline phase and to analyze the surface morphology. Evidently, the absorption edges of both BFO/ZnO and ZnO/BFO films show a redshift, broadening the absorption range. The leakage current density decreases with the introduction of ZnO, and the ferroelectricity was significantly improved of the bilayers. Thereinto, BFO/ZnO and ZnO/BFO show the highest saturate polarization (2 P _s ) of 46.7 μ c cm ^−2 and the maximum remanent polarization (2 P _r ) of 18.5 μ c cm ^−2 , respectively. Meanwhile, the magnetization measurement revealed that both BFO/ZnO and ZnO/BFO exhibiting an enhanced magnetization, especially, BFO/ZnO displays the highest saturation magnetization (2 M _s , 68.87 emu cm ^−3 ) and remanent magnetization (2 M _r , 4.87 emu cm ^−3 ).

In order to grasp the research status of biological CBM, the distribution, trend and research content of papers related with biological CBM were analyzed by bibliometrics and literature review. In recent years, the exploration of biological CBM and the study of microbial diversity in CBM fields have gradually decreased as the cumulative number of papers has tended to flat. However, the cumulative number of papers on microbial degradation of coal is increasing year by year, which is the current research hotspot. The research of cultivation experiment mainly focuses on the formation mechanism of biological CBM and the theory and technology to increase biomethane production. Microorganisms, coal, and intermediate metabolites are the key to elucidate the formation mechanism of biological CBM. The production of biomethane has been effectively increased by cultivating efficient functional microflora, modifying coal structure by chemical treatment, and activating microorganisms by exogenous substances. However, the research time of biological CBM is relatively short, and the research on its formation mechanism and production-increasing technology are still in the initial stage. In the future, new technologies such as microbiology, chemistry, and mechanics are needed to clarify the formation mechanism of biological CBM, develop new production-increasing technologies, promote the development and industrial application of MECoM and the sustainable development of CBM industry.
