This article explores the development of Ericulture in India. Eri silk is considered the softest and warmest amongst all the silks, and has excellent textile properties such as fineness, density, cross sectional shape and surface properties. Moreover, it has potential for commercial exploitation by making finest quality suiting materials. The article presents an experimental method that is used in developing fabrics using Eri/Polyester blends. In line with the results of the experiment, the author recommended the development of fabric using Eri silk/polyester yarn in both warp and weft way.

This work is an attempt to develop two varieties of Eri silk Polyester blended yarn on short staple spinning system to diversify the Eri silk. This work was carried out the develop the process to cut the Eri fibres of required length from the Eri cocoons. The Eri fibres were blended with polyester in 50:50 and 30:70 blend ratio and to develop a suitable process parameter for yarn on short staple spinning system. The developed yarns were tested for physical properties and comparisons were made on the performance of different blend ratio.
