Abstract

Results show that the purified catalase from the Vibrio rumoiensis S-1(sup)T is a 230 kilodalton molecular mass enzyme exhibiting four identical subunits. Data also indicate that the unique properties of the enzyme are consistent with bacterium's exposure to an environment of hydrogen peroxide.

Abstract

The chromophore chiral macroorganization of the stacked lamellar structures in the chlorophyll a/b light-harvesting antenna complex (LHCII) undergoes light-induced reversible changes. The stacked lamellae in the granal thylakoid membranes show a similar behavior. The light-induced reversible structural changes in the granal thylakoids are accompanied by greater dissipation of excitation energy. These changes assume prominence in excess light and get neutralized in the absence of chiral macroaggregates.
