Using the method of microsecond flash photolysis with UV and visible light, the spectral and kinetic characteristics of intermediate products of photolysis in toluene and methanol solutions of a new biphotochromic compound have been studied, in which two photochromic moieties, spironaphthoxazine and azomethine, are linked to each other in such a way that there is conjugation between π-electronic systems of the moieties in the ground state of the molecule. Two intermediate products have detected, whose relative efficiency of formation substantially depends on the solvent and the wavelength of excitation light.

It was shown that the presence of a metal in a macromolecule affects the electric conductivity of oligo-and polyphthalocyanines. A change in the electric conductivity related to introduction of the metal does not exceed two orders of magnitude and depends on the nature, concentration, and location of the metal in the macromolecule (in the window of the azaporphine ring or in the outer sphere). This change does not mask the dependence of electric conductivity on the length of conjugation regions in macromolecules that was established for metal-free products. It was demonstrated that the electric conductivity drops upon incorporation of urea fragments into the molecular structure of polyazaporphine owing to violation of the continuous conjugation chain. The role of end groups of macromolecules in the appearance of barriers to intermolecular electronic transport in the electrical conduction process was revealed.

Formylation of photochromic 9′-hydroxy-1,3,3-trimethyl-1,3-dihydrospiro[2H-indole-2,3′-3′H-naphtho[2,1-b][1,4]oxazine] with the paraformaldehyde-MgCl2-Et3N system or by the Reimer-Tiemann reaction proceeds at the ortho-position to the hydroxy group to form 10′-formyl derivative.

1. A simple method was proposed for determining the content and composition of cyclic trimers in the polymer according to the NMR spectra. 2. The possibility of using data on cyclic trimers to solve the problem of the mechanism of the polymerization process and the structure of the polymer chain was demonstrated.

1. The presence of a photoeffect in polymers with a system of conjugation was demonstrated in an electrophotographic system, but the value of the photosensitivity is small. 2. The introduction of low-molecular electron acceptor compounds into polymers with a system of conjugation leads to an appreciable increase in the electrophotographic sensitivity. 3. For the donor polymer-acceptor polymer system, an increased photosensitivity is observed, with a simultaneous conservation of film-forming properties and thermal stability. 4. The mechanism of the chemical sensitization of the photoconductivity was studied in a heterophase system of conjugated polymer-electron acceptor compound. In such a system the process consists of sensitization of the organic semiconductor by electron acceptor compounds, adsorbed on its surface with polymer molecules.
