To understand the roles of Au(III) (hydro-)oxides in promoting plasmon-mediated photoelectrochemical (PMPEC) water-oxidation, we employed in situ microphotoelectrochemical surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy and ambient-pressure x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to elucidate the correlations between the amount of surface Au(III) (hydro-)oxides and the photocurrent of PMPEC water-oxidation on Au. By applying preoxidation potentials, we made surface Au(III) (hydro-)oxides on a plasmonic Au photoanode. According to the charge of reductively stripping surface oxygenated species before and after PMPEC water-oxidation, we found that a negative shift of an onset potential, increase in photocurrent, and much less growth of surface (hydro-)oxides were correlated with each other as a result of the increase in the coverage of Au (III) (hydro-)oxides. These results suggest that the surface Au(III) (hydro-)oxides kinetically promoted water-oxidation by restricting the growth of surface (hydro-)oxides. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Black GaAs nanotip arrays (NTs) with 3300 nm lengths were fabricated via self-masked plasma etching. We show, both experimentally and numerically, that these NTs, with three gradient refractive index layers, effectively suppress Fresnel reflections at the air–GaAs interface over a broad range of wavelengths. These NTs exhibit exceptional UV-Vis light absorption (up to 99%) and maintain high NIR absorption (33–60%) compared to bare GaAs. Moreover, possessing a graded layer with a low refractive index (n = 1.01 to 1.12), they achieve angular and polarization-independent antireflection properties exceeding 80° at 632.8 nm, aligning with perfect antireflective coating theory predictions. Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (PBFT), the widest-used consensus algorithm in the alliance blockchain, suffers from high communications complexity and relatively low scalability, making it difficult to support large-scale networks. To overcome these limitations, we propose a secure and scalable consensus algorithm, Vague Sets-based Double Layer PBFT (VSDL-PBFT). Roles and tasks of consensus nodes are redesigned. Three-phase consensus process of the original PBFT is optimized. Through these approaches, the communication complexity of the algorithm is significantly reduced. In order to better fit the complexity of voting in the real world, we use a vague set to select primary nodes of consensus groups. This can greatly reduce the likelihood of malicious nodes being selected as the primary nodes. The experimental results show that the VSDL-PBFT consensus algorithm improves the system’s fault tolerance, it also achieves better performance in algorithm security, communications complexity, and transaction throughput compared to the baseline consensus algorithms. The main challenge of ultrasound‐guided minimally invasive surgeries is to carry out treatments through small boreholes in the patient's body surface with sub‐millimetric accuracy and facility offered by ultrasound instruments. Thus, the phantoms' biomimetic appearances, acoustic characteristics, and mechanical properties are essential for healthcare professionals. In this study, gelatin and 3D‐printed photo‐resin phantoms were developed for hard and soft tissues, respectively. Using glutaraldehyde (GA) and formaldehyde (FA) to crosslink gelatin phantoms, the mechanical strength, ultrasound velocity, acoustic impedance, needle insertion forces, and antiseptic periods were improved, and the addition of silica nanoparticles raised the acoustic impedance. For 3D‐printed phantoms, the acoustic impedance ascended with hydrophilic polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA) oligomers. The additives applied in this study successfully made the gelatin and photo‐resin phantoms more mimetic to muscle and bone tissues, allowing their application in preoperative preparations. Molecules based on benzimidazolone‐dioxazine are known as blue/violet pigments and have been commercialized for decades. However, unfavorable solubility limits the application of these structures as building blocks of conjugated polymers despite their low band gaps. Herein, a series of donor–acceptor conjugated polymers containing soluble benzimidazolone‐dioxazine structures as the acceptors and oligothiophene as donors are synthesized and investigated. With increasing numbers of thiophene rings, the steric hindrance diminishes and high molecular weight polymers can be achieved, leading to an improved performance in organic field effect transistor devices. The hole mobility of polymers with three to six thiophene units is in the order of 10−1 cm2 V−1 s −1. Among all the polymers, polymer P3 with three thiophene units between benzimidazolone‐dioxazine structures shows the best hole mobility of 0.4 cm2 V−1 s −1. Grazing‐incidence wide‐angle X‐ray scattering results reveal that the high mobility of organic field‐effect transistors (OFETs) can be accredited by matched donor–acceptor packing in the solid thin films. Space exploration urgently demands novel irradiation-tolerant materials to build the arsenal for outer space use, among which nonlinear optical materials and devices are ever-increasing attractive. Tin sulfide (SnS), a novel two dimensional (2D) BP-analog with enhanced stability under ambient conditions, has exhibited excellent optoelectronic properties on the ground, but its potential as a candidate for space optics remains to be explored. Herein, the spatial adaptability of SnS was evaluated in the simulated space radiation environment. When exposed to 60Co γ-rays at a dose equal to over 45 year accumulation in a typical earth orbit, SnS still maintained its strong third-order nonlinear saturable absorption ranging from visible to near-infrared spectra. Ultrafast spectroscopy is used to study the radiation effects and relevant damage mechanisms that are difficult to be revealed via conventional techniques. This work not only sheds light on the irradiation-induced ionization damage and defects in SnS from the unique perspective of ultrafast excited state dynamics but also provides general guidance for rational design and screening space radiation-tolerant nonlinear optical materials.
