International audience; Today car drivers struggle to find a free parking space for their cars. It is considered a big challenge specially in large cities and in rush hours. Many studies considered this problem and how it influences our life. This increases emissions and energy consumption and wastes people’s times as they try to find a free space for their cars. People normally become exhausted all over the day to reach their destination which causes stress and make them lose their temper. This would have a bad impact on the quality of life and economy. Based on the above, today people expect technology to address this problem and hence find a suitable solution to end the suffering of motorists. On the other hand, IoT is a promising platform for providing unusual applications for helping people and provide them a better way to manage their day’s lives.This work proposes a solution for a green intelligent parking system based on IoT. This solution is supported by proposing the game theory mathematical model. Game theory is used to model a reservation system of the proposed car parking solution. This work tackles the main problems facing car drivers to find available car parking spaces. These problems include: the parking fees, how far the car park from the car drivers destinations and hence the amount of walking, and the parking duration. Moreover, the proposed solution encourages companies and householders to offer their own parking stalls and/or driveways for renting in the unused times. From one hand, this will help on providing more parking lots specially in the dense traffic areas. On the other hand, the owners will get a revenue of their unused assets. Therefore, this work proposes a solution to parking problems by providing affordable parking lots based on the choice of the car driver that is relatively close to the destination. As a result of that, there will not be wasting of time or energy, frustration and panic will be reduced, fewer traffic jams, and consequently a green environment and a better quality of life.

An optimization algorithm for dynamic and fault-tolerant mesh network planning is proposed. The algorithm is based on instant user data demand prediction and optimizes the network by reducing the energy cost and guaranteeing a dynamic bandwidth management. The resulting mesh infrastructure becomes dynamic as nodes join and leave the system according to load profiles. Parameters, such as instantaneous load and SINR, are integrated into the system. Thus, a piece-wise linear approximation is proposed to handle non-linearity issues in order to resolve the complex optimization problem.

International audience; Cloud computing and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) use cases proposed by ETSI can improve network caching when an adequate optimization algorithm is used. A cache placement algorithm is proposed based on these virtualization tools. Moreover, a cache placement protocol is presented to support the cache migration. Optimal cache and Virtual Machine (VM) placement and migration, and optimal routing based on several new constraints such as system load, network infrastructure, user satisfaction and migration cost is designed. Extensive evaluations and comparison to state of the art techniques are carried out. The results show that our cache techniques outperform other solutions and give better satisfaction to the three constituents: users, network operators and content providers.

Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET) is an emerging technology, which provides intelligent communication between mobile vehicles. Integrating VANET with Ubiquitous Sensor Networks (USN) has a great potential to improve road safety and traffic efficiency. Most VANET applications are applied in real time and they are sensitive to delay, especially those related to safety and health. Therefore, checking the applicability of any proposed application is very important. One way to achieve that is by calculating the Round Trip Time (RTT), which is the time taken by a VANET application starting from the initiator node (source vehicle) sending a message until receiving a response from the core network. In this paper, we present a new complete analytical model to calculate the RTT of VANET applications. Moreover, we introduce a novel detailed network architecture for VANET applications using the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) as a service controller in the USN environment. To the best of our knowledge, there is no previous published work that either studied the RTT of VANET applications or developed a complete architecture to implement them by integrating VANETs with USNs and IMS. The RTT is calculated by combining two analytical models. Firstly, we developed an analytical model to calculate the time needed for the communication between two nodes on a road. Secondly, we developed a queuing model using Baskett Chandy Muntz Palacios (BCMP) queuing network for the IMS servers to calculate the application's execution time in the core network. These models are general enough to be applied to any VANET application. Finally, to assess the validity and the accuracy of the proposed architecture and models, we used three different tools: C++, MATLAB, and OPNET. The analytical results were compared to the simulation results to evaluate their consistency.

International audience; The advances in IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) technology enable new user-centric and interactive TV model, in which context-awareness is promising in making users interaction with the TV dynamic and transparent. This paper considers user-centric personalized IPTV services applying context-awareness. We present a solution for enriched IPTV services personalization introducing context-awareness on top of IPTV architecture to gather different information on the user and his environment allowing each user to be distinguished by the system in a unique and real-time manner. Based on the different context information gathered, a novel solution for content recommendation is presented allowing to customize IPTV content according to the context of each user and his environment and hence guaranteeing better users experience. We implemented the proposed solution on top of an IPTV platform considering the NGN IPTV architecture as a proof of concept and as a mean to evaluate the performance.

International audience; Cooperative relaying has been proposed as a promising transmission technique that effectively creates spatial diversity through cooperation among spatially distributed nodes. However, to achieve efficient communications while gaining full benefits from cooperation, more interactions at higher protocol layers, particularly the MAC (Medium Access Control) and network layers, are vitally required. This is ignored in most existing articles that mainly focus on physical (PHY)-layer relaying techniques. In this paper, we propose a novel cross-layer framework involving two levels of joint design-a MAC-network cross-layer design for forwarder selection (or termed routing) and a MAC-PHY for relay selection-over symbol-wise varying channels. Based on location knowledge and contention processes, the proposed cross-layer protocol, CoopGeo, aims at providing an efficient, distributed approach to select next hops and optimal relays to form a communication path. Simulation results demonstrate that CoopGeo not only operates properly with varying densities of nodes, but performs significantly better than the existing protocol BOSS in terms of the packet error rate, transmission error probability, and saturated throughput.

International audience; Provider-provisioned virtual private networks are nowadays well-established networking concepts. They are envisaged as an extension of the basic VPN concept to securely network low-capacity nodes in large-scale personal networks, with the help of network providers. This article presents an adaptation of the Internet Key Exchange(IKEv2) protocol to the context of dynamic tunneling in personal networks. It relies on the providers' infrastructure to build identity-based security associations. Results of a preliminary security analysis are also provided

One main feature of next generation networks should be its heterogeneous communication environment, where different systems coexist and various wireless access networks and corresponding services are used. Despite the large number of current protocols, we believe that no efficient solution is available for automatic handoff between different wireless technologies. In order to develop an efficient technology agnostic solution, we propose to manage the problem just above the link layer. In this paper, we propose a novel architecture for the vertical handoff problem that operate at the layer 2.5. Our proposal is mainly based on an MPLS switching process and a Virtual Network Interface (VI) concept.

The fundamental goal in future 4G mobile multi-service networks is to provide an efficient mobile computing environment. We presume that future terminals will be equipped with multiple heterogeneous wireless interfaces. We want to enable each user to seamlessly move between different providers' networks. Besides seamless roaming, a key consideration is also devoted to quality-of-service provision. In this article, we propose a model and an architectural framework for supporting quality of service in the context of interconnected multi-provider wireless systems. The proposed integrated COPS-based management and RADIUS-based access control architecture will allow providers to offer multimedia services while optimizing the use of the underlying network resources. We suggest new concepts and protocols to provide solutions to these challenges and describe the French national research project named MMQoS aiming on building such future networks.

Cellular communications are aligning rapidly to adopt suitable network models for supporting packet switched services over IP networks. Pure third generation (3G) wireless architectures have already adopted IP as the network layer bearer within their core network component specification. This article presents an architecture and protocol in support of proactive mobility management for future IP radio access networks. It encompasses a novel approach for seamless handoff and proactive allocation of PDP context with respect to IP roaming state. The latter establishes a generic substrate for proactive state relocation of different context classes relating to the state of IP connectivity for a mobile node (MN). To address such form of IP mobility, the proposed model identifies a tentative mobility-routing matrix (TMM), which represents an accurate mapping between a mobility neighbourhood vector (MNV), surrounding the current GPRS-attachment point of an MN and the correct underlying routing neighbourhood vector (RNV), over arbitrary routing topologies. Sustained IP connectivity is achieved by introducing a 1-neighbour-lookahead (1-NL) view of PDP roaming state derived from the established TMM component; seamlessness is pursued through mapping of the 1-NL component to some handoff care-of address onto the IP Multicast domain; this allows abstracting a plurality of candidate care-of address instantiations of the MN onto a single handoff routing identifier.

Current Internet applications cannot take advantage of the variety of service classes offered by ATM networks. This is due to the stacking, without specific scheduling mechanisms, of a best-effort network layer on top of ATM. Simultaneously, few native ATM applications have been written specifically in this networking framework. We propose an architecture for running TCP-based applications over ATM. This architecture relies on the standard TCP protocol and offers at the socket layer the means to specify an ATM traffic contract. This gives an immediate native ATM access to a rich set of familiar applications. It also helps satisfying the increasing need of resource control for Internet applications. We have developed TCP-ONIP (TCP over non-existent IP), a prototype implementation of this approach. The necessary adaptation steps are shown in the case of the Web.
