1. New determination of the branching ratio of the structure dependent radiative $K^{+} \to e^{+} \nu_{e} \gamma$ decay

Abstract

The branching ratio of the structure dependent (SD) radiative $K^{+} \to e^{+} \nu_{e} \gamma$ decay relative to that of the $K^+\rightarrow e^+ \nu_{e} (\gamma)$ decay including the internal bremsstrahlung (IB) process ($K_{e2(\gamma)}$) has been measured in the J-PARC E36 experiment using plastic scintillator/lead sandwich detectors. In the analysis, the effect of IB was also taken into account in the SD radiative decay as $K_{e2\gamma(\gamma)}^{\rm SD}$. By combining the new data with the previously reported result of the E36 experiment using a CsI(Tl) calorimeter after revision for the IB correction for $K_{e2\gamma(\gamma)}^{\rm SD}$, a new value $Br(K_{e2\gamma(\gamma)}^{\rm SD})/Br(K_{e2(\gamma)})=1.20\pm0.07$ has been determined, which is consistent with a recent lattice QCD calculation, but larger than the expectation of Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) at order $O(p^4)$ and the previous KLOE value. Also, using the method to relate form factor and branching ratio described in the KLOE paper, the present result is consistent with the form factor prediction based on a gauged nonlocal chiral quark model, but larger than ChPT at order $O(p^6)$., Comment: 19 pages

Abstract

The structure dependent radiative $K^+ \rightarrow e^+ \nu \gamma$ ($K_{e2\gamma}^{\rm SD^+}$) decay was investigated with stopped positive kaons. The $e^+$ momentum spectra containing 574$\pm$30 $K_{e2\gamma}^{\rm SD^+}$ events with a $K^+ \rightarrow \mu^+ \nu$ ($K_{\mu2}$) background of 28$\pm$19 events were measured with and without a photon in coincidence and analyzed with Monte Carlo simulations for acceptance and detector response to extract the ratio of the branching ratio of the $K_{e2\gamma}^{\rm SD^+}$ decay and the $K^+ \rightarrow e^+ \nu$ decay including the internal bremsstrahlung process ($K_{e2(\gamma)}$). A value of $Br(K_{e2\gamma}^{\rm SD^+}) / Br(K_{e2(\gamma)}) = 1.12\pm0.07_{\rm stat} \pm 0.04_{\rm syst}$ was obtained. This indicates a partial branching ratio, $Br(K_{e2\gamma}^{\rm SD^+}, ~{p_e>200~{\rm MeV}/c}, ~{E_\gamma>10~{\rm MeV}})/Br(K_{\mu2}) =(1.85 \pm 0.11_{\rm{stat}} \pm 0.07_{\rm{syst}}) \times10^{-5}$, which is $25\%(\sim$2.5$\sigma)$ higher than the previous experimental result., Comment: 20 pages, 7 figures

Abstract

We report a search for low-lying exotic baryons via double radiative capture on pionic hydrogen. The data were collected at the TRIUMF cyclotron using the RMC spectrometer by detecting gamma-ray pairs from pion stops in liquid hydrogen. No evidence was found to support an earlier claim for exotic baryons of masses 1004 and 1044 MeV/$c^2$. We obtain upper limits on the branching ratios for double radiative capture via these exotic states of $< 3 \times 10^{-6}$ and $< 4 \times 10^{-6}$ respectively., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

In a kinematically complete setting, the $K^+ \to \pi^+ \pi^0 \pi^0$ decays of stopped $K^+$ were measured. In the frame work of the Weinberg polynomial expansion, the coefficients up to quadratic terms were deduced. The results are in good agreement with previous measurements and consistent with CP conservation expectations. The empirical $\Delta I=1/2$ rule is violated.

Abstract

Inclusive neutron energy spectra were measuredb y time of flight using 1.22 GeV antiprotons from LEAR, CERN, as projectiles andtargets from natural Al, Cu, Ag, Ho, Ta, Au, Pb, Bi, U. The sum of two Maxwellian distributions was fitted to the spectra d2 σ/(d Ωd E) obtainedat several forward andbac kwardangles yielding neutron multiplicities M i andslop e or temperature parameters T i for the low-energy (evaporative, i = 1) andhigh-energy (pre-equilibrium, i = 2) parts, respectively. M 1 increases with A, proportional to the nuclear volume, and M 2 is growing with A 1/3, proportional to the nuclear radius. The T parameters are nearly independent of A. The results are comparedwith previous multiplicity measurements with a 4 π neutron detector, intranuclear cascade calculations and neutron spectra from stoppedan tiproton annihilation on nuclei. Abstract

We have measured the weak radiative decay branching ratio ( ∑ → pγ)/( ∑ → pπ). The experiment was carried out at Brookhaven National Laboratory using a low-energy separated K beam stopping in liquid hydrogen. The ∑ was tagged by observing the pion from K K p→ ∑π in a range telescope, and the gamma was detected in a segmented NaI detector. The result is (2.81±0.39)×10, which is consistent with previous measurements. This corresponds to a branching ratio for ( ∑ → pγ)/( ∑ → all) of (1.45±0.20)×10, where the quoted errors are statistical and systematic, respectively. Abstract

The time dependence of muon spin relaxation has been measured in high-purity aluminum and silver samples in a longitudinal 2 T magnetic field at room temperature, using the time-differential muon spin relaxation technique. For times greater than 10 ns, the shape fits well to a single exponential with relaxation rates of λAl=1.3±0.2 (stat.)±0.3 (syst.) ms-1 and λAg=1.0±0.2 (stat.)±0.2 (syst.) ms-1. Abstract

We report on a new search for solar chameleons with the CERN Axion Solar Telescope (CAST). A GridPix detector was used to search for soft X-ray photons in the energy range from 200 eV to 10 keV from converted solar chameleons. No signiffcant excess over the expected background has been observed in the data taken in 2014 and 2015. We set an improved limit on the chameleon photon coupling, $\beta_\gamma < 5.7\times10^{10}$ for $1, Comment: 19 pages, 12 figures, 3 tables
