Mordenite-ZSM-22 composite zeolite is prepared by the physical mixing. The structure, pore properties, acid properties and diffusion properties of samples are characterized by the means of XRD, N2 physical adsorption-desorption, SEM, TEM, NH3-TPD, Py-IR, and ZLC. The pore properties and acid properties of mordenite-ZSM-22 composite zeolite can be efficiently modulated by changing mass ratio of mordenite and ZSM-22. In n-C12 hydroisomerization reaction, Pt/HMZ-x displays great capacity in modulate n-dodecane isomers distribution (mono-branched i-C12, multi-branched i-C12, terminal branched i-C12 and central branched i-C12), these results are ascribed to that these composite zeolite catalysts combined the topology structure advantage of mordenite and ZSM-22. When reaction temperature is 280 °C, the ratio of mono-branched i-C12 selectivity to multi-branched i-C12 selectivity (SMB/SMTB) of Pt/HZSM-22, Pt/HMZ-1, Pt/HMZ-3, Pt/HMZ-5 and Pt/HMOR were 37.64, 15.04, 5.48, 5.20 and 1.47, respectively. The ZLC diffusion experiment results indicate that low isomer selectivity of Pt/HMOR is due to its poor diffusivity. On the contrary, Pt/HZSM-22 favors the diffusion of reactants and has better catalytic performance.

Abstract In contrast to the decreasing trends in developed countries, the incidence and mortality rates of cervical squamous cell carcinoma in China have increased significantly. The screening and identification of reliable biomarkers and candidate drug targets for cervical squamous cell carcinoma are urgently needed to improve the survival rate and quality of life of patients. In this study, we demonstrated that the expression of MUC1 was greater in neoplastic tissues than in non-neoplastic tissues of the cervix, and cervical squamous cell carcinoma patients with high MUC1 expression had significantly worse overall survival than did those with low MUC1 expression, indicating its potential for early diagnosis of cervical squamous cell carcinoma. Next, we explored the regulatory mechanism of MUC1 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma. MUC1 could upregulate ITGA2 and ITGA3 expression via ERK phosphorylation, promoting the proliferation and metastasis of cervical cancer cells. Further knockdown of ITGA2 and ITGA3 significantly inhibited the tumorigenesis of cervical cancer cells. Moreover, we designed a combination drug regimen comprising MUC1-siRNA and a novel ERK inhibitor in vivo and found that the combination of these drugs achieved better results in animals with xenografts than did MUC1 alone. Overall, we discovered a novel regulatory pathway, MUC1/ERK/ITGA2/3, in cervical squamous cell carcinoma that may serve as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target in the future.

Abstract Background Carbamoyl phosphate synthetase I defect (CPS1D) is a rare disease with clinical case reports mainly in early neonates or adults, with few reports of first onset in late neonatal to childhood. We studied the clinical and genotypic characteristics of children with childhood onset CPS1D caused by two loci mutations (one of these is a rarely reported non-frame shift mutation) in the CPS1. Case presentation We present a rare case of adolescent-onset CPS1D that had been misdiagnosed due to atypical clinical features, and further investigations revealed severe hyperammonemia (287µmol/L; reference range 11.2 ~ 48.2umol/L). MRI of the brain showed diffuse white matter lesions. Blood genetic metabolic screening showed elevated blood alanine (757.06umol/L; reference range 148.8 ~ 739.74umol/L) and decreased blood citrulline (4.26umol/L; reference range 5.45 ~ 36.77umol/L). Urine metabolic screening showed normal whey acids and uracil. Whole-exome sequencing revealed compound heterozygous mutations in the CPS1, a missense mutation (c.1145 C > T) and an unreported de novo non-frame shift mutation (c.4080_c.4091delAGGCATCCTGAT), respectively, which provided a clinical diagnosis. Conclusion A comprehensive description of the clinical and genetic features of this patient, who has a rare age of onset and a relatively atypical clinical presentation, will facilitate the early diagnosis and management of this type of late onset CPS1D and reduce misdiagnosis, thus helping to reduce mortality and improve prognosis. It also provides a preliminary understanding of the relationship between genotype and phenotype, based on a summary of previous studies, which reminds us that it may help to explore the pathogenesis of the disease and contribute to genetic counselling and prenatal diagnosis.

Metasurfaces can realize the flexible manipulation of electromagnetic waves, which have the advantages of a low profile and low loss. In particular, the coding metasurface can flexibly manipulate electromagnetic waves through controllable sequence encoding of the coding units to achieve different functions. In this paper, a three-layer active coding metasurface is designed based on vanadium dioxide (VO2), which has an excellent phase transition. For the designed unit cell, the top patterned layer is composed of two split square resonant rings (SSRRs), whose gaps are in opposite directions, and each SSRR is composed of gold and VO2. When VO2 changes from the dielectric state to the metal state, the resonant mode changes from microstrip resonance to LC resonance, correspondingly. According to the Pancharatnam-Berry (P-B) phase, the designed metasurface can actively control terahertz circularly polarized waves in the near field. The metasurface can manipulate the order of the generated orbital angular momentum (OAM) beams: when the dielectric VO2 changes to metal VO2, the order l of the OAM beams generated by the metasurface changes from −1 to −2, and the purity of the generated OAM beams is relatively high. It is expected to have important application values in terahertz wireless communication, radar, and other fields.

Microplastic might affect the crop yield, nitrogen (N) use efficiency and reactive N losses from agricultural soil systems. However, evaluation of these effects in infertile soil planted with different rice cultivars is lacking. We conducted a soil column experiment to determine the influence of a typical microplastic polyethylene (PE) input into an infertile soil with 270 kg N ha−1 and planted with two rice cultivars, i.e., a common rice Nangeng 5055 (NG) and a hybrid rice Jiafengyou 6 (JFY). The results showed that JFY produced a significantly (p < 0.05) greater grain yield than NG (61.6–66.2 vs. 48.2–52.5 g pot−1) but was not influenced by PE. Overall, PE hardly changed the N use efficiency of NG and JFY. Unexpectedly, PE significantly (p < 0.05) increased the total amino acid content of NG. Compared with JFY, NG volatilized significantly (p < 0.05) more ammonia (NH3) (0.84–0.92 vs. 0.64–0.67 g N pot−1) but emitted equal nitrous oxide (N2O). PE exerted no effect on either NH3 volatilization or the N2O emission flux pattern and cumulative losses of the rice growth cycle, whether with NG or JFY. Some properties of tested soils changed after planting with different rice cultivars and incorporating with microplastic. In conclusion, the rice production, N use efficiency, NH3 volatilization and N2O emission from the N-fertilized infertile soil were pronouncedly influenced by the rice cultivar, but not the PE. However, PE influenced the grain quality of common rice and some properties of tested soils with both rice cultivars.

Aiming at the complex strata, lost circulation often occurs. and lost circulation control becomes a difficult issue. A drilling fluid loss accident delays the drilling progress and even causes major economic losses. If we take a self-made sodium polyacrylate grafting and modify a starch water absorbent resin, using an amphiphilic compatibilizer as raw material through mechanical blending and chemical compatibilization, we can synthesize a resin–rubber blend swelling lost circulation material. This material presents a good resistance to anti-high-temperature performance, but the quality declines while the temperature is higher than 363 °C, and with the increasing temperature, the water-swelling expansion ratio becomes higher. The range of the water-swelling expansion ratio is 8 to 25 times and the water swelling rate becomes larger along with the reduced diameter of the lost circulation materials and decreases with the increasing salinity. The resin-rubber blend swelling lost circulation material after water swelling has excellent toughness and high elastic deformation capacity, thus, forming a 7 Mpa to 2 mm fracture via expansion, extrusion, deformation, and filling, which presents a good performance for fracture plugging and realizes the purpose of lost circulation control.

Coastal reclamation is a global threat to coastal wetland ecosystems, but the impacts of coastal reclamation on belowground biodiversity and their consequences for ecosystem nutrient cycling remain poorly understood. In this study, we examined soil bacterial communities, bacterial co-occurrence pattern and soil multi-nutrient cycling index after natural vegetated coastal wetlands were converted for 6-year and 30-year rice-wheat rotation fields. The soil multi-nutrient cycling index was higher in 6-year and 30-year rice-wheat rotation fields than natural vegetated coastal wetlands. For bacterial community, rice-wheat rotation reclamation increased soil bacterial alpha diversity but decreased beta diversity and co-occurrence network complexity than those in the vegetated coastal wetland. Rice-wheat rotation reclamation also changed soil bacterial community assemblages by increasing the relative abundance of Actinobacteriota and Desulfobacterota while decreasing the relative abundance of Alphaproteobacteria and Gammproteobacteria. Changes in the relative importance of dispersal limitation and homogenizing dispersal mainly controlled the variations in soil bacterial community assemblages. Soil bacterial community variations induced by rice-wheat reclamation were strongly related to soil multi-nutrient cycling, especially bacterial connection complexity. Our results provide experimental support that belowground microbial interactions are crucial for maintaining ecosystem functioning.

Abstract Background Recent studies have identified susceptibility genes of HBV clearance, chronic hepatitis B, liver cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and showed the host genetic factors play an important role in these HBV-related outcomes. Methods Collected samples from different outcomes of HBV infection and performed genotyping by Affymetrix 500 k SNP Array. GCTA tool, PLINK, and Bonferroni method were applied for analysis of genotyping and disease progression. ANOVA was used to evaluate the significance of the association between biomarkers and genotypes in healthy controls. PoMo, FST, Vcftools and Rehh package were used for building the racial tree and population analysis. FST statistics accesses 0.15 was used as a threshold to detect the signature of selection. Results There are 1031 participants passed quality control from 1104 participants, including 275 HBV clearance, 92 asymptomatic persistence infection (ASPI), 93 chronic hepatitis B (CHB), 188 HBV-related decompensated cirrhosis (DC), 214 HBV-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and 169 healthy controls (HC). In the case–control study, one novel locus significantly associated with CHB (SNP: rs1264473, Gene: GRHL2, P = 1.57 × 10−6) and HCC (SNP: rs2833856, Gene: EVA1C, P = 1.62 × 10−6; SNP: rs4661093, Gene: ETV3, P = 2.26 × 10−6). In the trend study across progressive stages post HBV infection, one novel locus (SNP: rs1537862, Gene: LACE1, P = 1.85 × 10−6), and three MHC loci (HLA-DRB1, HLA-DPB1, HLA-DPA2) showed significant increased progressive risk from ASPI to CHB. Underlying the evolutionary study of HBV-related genes in public database, the derived allele of two HBV clearance related loci, rs3077 and rs9277542, are under strong selection in European population. Conclusions In this study, we identified several novel candidate genes associated with individual HBV infectious outcomes, progressive stages, and liver enzymes. Two SNPs that show selective significance (HLA-DPA1, HLA-DPB1) in non-East Asian (European, American, South Asian) versus East Asian, indicating that host genetic factors contribute to the ethnic disparities of susceptibility of HBV infection. Taken together, these findings provided a new insight into the role of host genetic factors in HBV related outcomes and progression.

Salinity is a global conundrum that negatively affects various biometrics of agricultural crops. Jasmonic acid (JA) is a phytohormone that reinforces multilayered defense strategies against abiotic stress, including salinity. This study investigated the effect of JA (60 μM) on two wheat cultivars, namely ZM9 and YM25, exposed to NaCl (14.50 dSm−1) during two consecutive growing seasons. Morphologically, plants primed with JA enhanced the vegetative growth and yield components. The improvement of growth by JA priming is associated with increased photosynthetic pigments, stomatal conductance, intercellular CO2, maximal photosystem II efficiency, and transpiration rate of the stressed plants. Furthermore, wheat cultivars primed with JA showed a reduction in the swelling of the chloroplast, recovery of the disintegrated thylakoids grana, and increased plastoglobuli numbers compared to saline-treated plants. JA prevented dehydration of leaves by increasing relative water content and water use efficiency via reducing water and osmotic potential using proline as an osmoticum. There was a reduction in sodium (Na+) and increased potassium (K+) contents, indicating a significant role of JA priming in ionic homeostasis, which was associated with induction of the transporters, viz., SOS1, NHX2, and HVP1. Exogenously applied JA mitigated the inhibitory effect of salt stress in plants by increasing the endogenous levels of cytokinins and indole acetic acid, and reducing the abscisic acid (ABA) contents. In addition, the oxidative stress caused by increasing hydrogen peroxide in salt-stressed plants was restrained by JA, which was associated with increased α-tocopherol, phenolics, and flavonoids levels and triggered the activities of superoxide dismutase and ascorbate peroxidase activity. This increase in phenolics and flavonoids could be explained by the induction of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase activity. The results suggest that JA plays a key role at the morphological, biochemical, and genetic levels of stressed and non-stressed wheat plants which is reflected in yield attributes. Hierarchical cluster analysis and principal component analyses showed that salt sensitivity was associated with the increments of Na+, hydrogen peroxide, and ABA contents. The regulatory role of JA under salinity stress was interlinked with increased JA level which consequentially improved ion transporting, osmoregulation, and antioxidant defense.

With the rapid expansion in the number of Unmanned Aircraft Vehicles (UAVs) available and the development of modern technologies, the commercial applications of UAVs in urban areas, such as urban remote sensing (RS), express services, urban road traffic monitoring, urban police security, urban air shows and so on, have increased greatly. However, most UAVs, especially light and small civil UAVs, have been operating in low-altitude airspace, and a conflict may exist between increasing the number of UAVs and the limited low airspace. To promote low-altitude airspace resource development and to standardize the operation and management of UAVs in urban regions, some global laws and regulations and key technologies for urban low-altitude applications of UAVs have been implemented. This paper reviews the development of current policies and key technologies concerning safe and efficient operations of the light-and-small civil UAVs in low altitude in urban areas. Discussions are made progressively on measures and methods of airspace restriction, airspace structuring and air route planning in China primarily and the rest of world. After surveying the practical industry tests and the initial studies of air routes, the survey results indicate that the construction of air route networks is a scientific and effective measure to standardize and improve the efficiency of low-altitude UAV operations. From the view point of safety and efficiency, the most valuable direction for UAV regulation in urban regions involves deepening the research which largely relies on urban RS and Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, and application demonstrations of low-altitude public air route networks.

Objective: 1q44 microdeletion syndrome is difficult to diagnose due to the wide phenotypic spectrum and strong genetic heterogeneity. We explore the correlation between the chromosome microdeletions and phenotype in a child with 1q44 microdeletion syndrome, we collected the clinical features of the patient and combined them with adjacent copy number variation (CNV) regions previously reported.Methods: We collected the full medical history of the patient and summarized her clinical symptoms. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) and CapCNV analysis were performed with DNA extracted from both the patient's and her parents' peripheral blood samples. Fluorescent quantitative PCR (q-PCR) was performed for the use of verification to the CNV regions.Results: A 28.7 KB microdeletion was detected in the 1q44 region by whole-exome sequencing and low-depth whole-genome sequencing. The deleted region included the genes COX20 and HNRNPU. As verification, karyotype analysis showed no abnormality, and the results of qPCR were consistent with that of whole-exome sequencing and CapCNV analysis.Conclusion: The patient was diagnosed with 1q44 microdeletion syndrome with clinical and genetic analysis. Analyzing both whole-exome sequencing and CapCNV analysis can not only improve the diagnostic rate of clinically suspected syndromes that present with intellectual disability (ID) and multiple malformations but also support further study of the correlation between CNVs and clinical phenotypes. This study lays the foundation for the further study of the pathogenesis of complex diseases.

Salt tolerance is an important trait in soybean cultivation and breeding. Plant responses to salt stress include physiological and biochemical changes that affect the movement of water across the plasma membrane. Plasma membrane intrinsic proteins (PIPs) localize to the plasma membrane and regulate the water and solutes flow. In this study, quantitative real-time PCR and yeast two-hybridization were engaged to analyze the early gene expression profiles and interactions of a set of soybean PIPs (GmPIPs) in response to salt stress. A total of 20 GmPIPs-encoding genes had varied expression profiles after salt stress. Among them, 13 genes exhibited a downregulated expression pattern, including GmPIP1;6, the constitutive overexpression of which could improve soybean salt tolerance, and its close homologs GmPIP1;7 and 1;5. Three genes showed upregulated patterns, including the GmPIP1;6 close homolog GmPIP1;4, when four genes with earlier increased and then decreased expression patterns. GmPIP1;5 and GmPIP1;6 could both physically interact strongly with GmPIP2;2, GmPIP2;4, GmPIP2;6, GmPIP2;8, GmPIP2;9, GmPIP2;11, and GmPIP2;13. Definite interactions between GmPIP1;6 and GmPIP1;7 were detected and GmPIP2;9 performed homo-interaction. The interactions of GmPIP1;5 with GmPIP2;11 and 2;13, GmPIP1;6 with GmPIP2;9, 2;11 and GmPIP2;13, and GmPIP2;9 with itself were strengthened upon salt stress rather than osmotic stress. Taken together, we inferred that GmPIP1 type and GmPIP2 type could associate with each other to synergistically function in the plant cell; a salt-stress environment could promote part of their interactions. This result provided new clues to further understand the soybean PIP–isoform interactions, which lead to potentially functional homo- and heterotetramers for salt tolerance.

The three-dimensional (3D) simulation model of a lithium niobate (LiNbO3, LN) optical waveguide (OWG) electric field sensor has been established by using the full-wave electromagnetic simulation software. The influences of the LN substrate and the packaging material on the resonance frequency of the integrated OWG electric field sensor have been simulated and analyzed. The simulation results show that the thickness of the LN substrate has a great influence on the resonant frequency of the sensor (≈33.4%). A sensor with a substrate thickness of 1 mm has been designed, fabricated, and experimentally investigated. Experimental results indicate that the measured resonance frequency is 7.5 GHz, which nearly coincides with the simulation results. Moreover, the sensor can be used for the measurement of the nanosecond electromagnetic impulse (NEMP) in the time domain from 1.29 kV/m to 100.97 kV/m.

Epidemiological studies have revealed that noise exposure was associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, the exact nature of that association remains to be elucidated. The present study is designed to examine the effects of chronic noise exposure on the development of T2DM in combination with a high-fat-diet (HFD) in mice. Here we show that chronic noise exposure at 85 dB SPL (4 h /day, below the safety limit for occupational noise exposure) exaggerated multiple metabolic abnormalities induced by HFD in C57BL/6J male mice, including worsened glucose intolerance, insulin resistance, fasting hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia. Furthermore, noise exposure exhibited a paradoxical impact on fat accumulation and circulating levels of free fatty acid, indicating a potential stimulating effect of noise on lipolysis. These results provide first in vivo supporting evidence for the causative role of noise exposure in diabetogenesis and pinpoint a noise-associated increase in blood free fatty acid levels as a possible mediator accelerating the effect of noise on the development of insulin resistance and T2DM.

The efficacy of direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) could be attenuated by the presence of resistance-associated variants (RAVs). The aim of this study was to investigate the natural prevalence of RAVs among Chinese HCV genotype 1b patients and analyze the efficacy of pegylated interferon (PegIFN)/ribavirin (RBV) therapy in patients with and without RAVs at baseline.Direct sequencing of the HCV NS3, NS5A and NS5B regions was performed in baseline serum samples of 117 DAAs-naïve subjects infected with HCV genotype 1b. The efficacy of PegIFN/RBV therapy in patients with and without RAVs at baseline was analyzed by comparing the response rates between patients with RAVs and patients with wild type virus.The incidence of RAVs was 8.00% (8/100) in the NS3 region (T54S, n = 1, 1.00%; R117H, n = 5, 5.00%; S122T, n = 1, 1.00%; S174F, n = 1, 1.00%), 29.91% (32/107) in the NS5A region (L28M, n = 12, 11.21%; R30Q, n = 10, 9.35%; L31M, n = 1, 0.93%; P58S, n = 4, 3.74%; Y93H, n = 8, 7.48%) and 98.15% (106/108) in the NS5B region (L159F, n = 1, 0.93%; C316N, n = 103, 95.37%; A421V, n = 6, 5.56%). The response rates to PegIFN/RBV treatment did not differ between patients with or without RAVs in the NS5A region.Pre-existing RAVs, including key RAVs, were detected in Chinese DAAs-naïve patients infected with HCV genotype 1b. IFN-based therapy could be a good option for patients with RAVs, especially key RAVs, at baseline.

To understand the role of ubiquitous phototrophic periphyton in aquatic ecosystem on the biogeochemical cycling of organic phosphorus, the conversion and removal kinetic characteristics of organic phosphorus (Porg) such as adenosine triphosphate (ATP) were investigated in the presence of the periphyton cultured in artificial non-point source wastewater. The preliminary results showed that the periphyton was very powerful in converting Porg evidenced by the fact that inorganic phosphorus (Pinorg) content in solution increased from about 0.7 to 14.3 mg P L(-1) in 48 hours in the presence of 0.6 g L(-1) periphyton. This was because the periphyton could produce abundant phosphatases that benefited the conversion of Porg to Pinrog. Moreover, this conversion process was described more suitable by the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The periphyton was also effective in removing Porg, which showed that the Porg can be completely removed even when the initial Porg concentration was as high as 13 mg P L(-1) in 48 hours in the presence of 1.6 g L(-1) periphyton. Furthermore, it was found that biosorption dominated the Porg removal process and exhibited the characteristics of physical adsorption. However, this biosorption process by the periphyton was significantly influenced by biomass (absorbent dosage) and temperature. This work provides insights into Porg biogeochemical circulation of aquatic ecosystem that contained the periphyton or similar microbial aggregates.

With the further development of environmental protection regulations and drilling engineering, drilling fluid treatment agents are faced with the problem that it is difficult to balance environmental performance and temperature resistance. The high temperature resistant and environmentally friendly modified starch polymer fluid loss reducer MS-FR was obtained by graft copolymerization method with the corn starch was used as the raw material, preferably itaconic acid, N-vinylpyrrolidone, acrylamide and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid are used as modified monomers. In this article, the physical and chemical properties were evaluated by FT-IR and TGA, and the rheological properties, fluid loss and environmental protection properties were tested. The results show that MS-FR has excellent temperature resistance. After hot rolling at 140°C, when the concentration of MS-FR is 1 w/v%, the API fluid loss and HTHP fluid loss of bentonite base slurry can be reduced by 68.2% and 49.41%, respectively. The influence of soybean meal protein addition to the gel properties of silver carp surimi was studied, and the potential causes were further analyzed from the perspective of chemical forces and protein secondary structures. The surimi gels were prepared by the addition of 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0% of soybean meal protein, respectively, to the frozen surimi samples of silver carp. The water-holding capacity, cooking loss rate, whiteness value, texture characteristics, sensory quality, chemical strength, total sulfhydryl content and protein secondary structure of surimi gel were measured by a texture analyzer and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. The results showed that when the amount of soybean meal protein accounted for 1.5% of the frozen silver carp surimi, the water holding capacity, hardness, springiness, cohesiveness and chewiness of the surimi gel increased to the maximum values of 87.59%±1.44%, 381.70±7.64 g, 12.41±0.67 mm, 0.89±0.02 and 38.60±0.14 mJ, respectively, while the cooking loss rate decreased to the minimum value of 10.20%±0.52%, the sensory quality reached the best, and the whiteness value decreased slightly. This could be explained that the addition of 1.5% soybean meal protein led to a maximum hydrophobic interaction and total sulfhydryl content of surimi gel, and a tight gel three-dimensional network structure was formed. Moreover, the addition of soybean meal protein had little effect on the secondary structure of surimi protein. Therefore, the addition of 1.5% soybean meal protein effectively improved the gelation properties of surimi products.

Abstract Objective To investigate whether the expression of triple motif protein 19/38 (TRIM19/38) mRNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of HBeAg-negative chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) carriers is associated with the response to pegylated interferon alpha (peg-IFN-α) treatment and HBsAg clearance. Methods In this prospective study, HBeAg-negative chronic HBV carriers treated with peg-IFN-α completed 48 weeks of follow-up. After treatment with peg-IFN-α, the patients were divided into responders (R group) and nonresponders (NR group) according to the changes in HBV DNA and HBsAg levels at week 48 of treatment. According to whether serum HBsAg loss or seroconversion occurred, the patients were divided into a serological response group (SR group) and a nonserological response group (NSR group). The level of TRIM19/38 mRNA in PBMCs was detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR. The diagnostic performance of TRIM19/38 was analysed by calculating the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and area under the ROC curve (AUC). Results 43 HBeAg-negative chronic HBV carriers, 35 untreated CHB patients and 19 healthy controls were enrolled in this study. We found that TRIM19/38 mRNA levels were significantly lower in untreated CHB patients than in healthy controls. In HBeAg-negative chronic HBV carriers who underwent prospective follow-up, TRIM19/38 mRNA levels were negatively correlated with HBV DNA and ALT at baseline. Among the patients treated with peg-IFN-α, 16 patients achieved a treatment response (R group) and 27 patients did not achieve a treatment response (NR group). Compared with baseline, HBsAg levels in the R group decreased significantly at 12 and 24 weeks of treatment; at the early stage of peg-IFN-α treatment, the dynamic changes in TRIM19/38 mRNA levels in the R and NR groups were different, and the TRIM19/38 mRNA levels in the R group were significantly higher than those in the NR group, especially at 24 weeks of treatment. ROC curve analysis showed that the changes in mRNA levels of TRIM19 and TRIM38 predicted the treatment response, with AUCs of 0.694 and 0.757, respectively. Among the patients treated with peg-IFN-α, 11 patients achieved a serological response (SR group) and 32 patients did not achieve a serological response (NSR group). Compared with baseline, HBsAg levels in the SR group decreased significantly at 12 and 24 weeks of treatment; TRIM19/38 mRNA levels were significantly higher in the SR group than in the NSR group at week 24. Conclusion The higher level of TRIM19/38 mRNA in PBMCs of HBeAg-negative chronic HBV carriers may be related to the early treatment effect of peg-IFN-α and HBsAg clearance. TRIM19 and TRIM38 have clinical significance in predicting virological response and guiding treatment regimens.
