However, little data exist that evaluate the long-term outcomes after step-down treatment. Objective: To compare the long-term outcomes of step-down therapy with ICS/LABA or ICS alone for asthmatic patients who have achieved well-controlled asthma by the ICS (250 µg fluticasone)/LABA (50 µg salmeterol) combination (SFC, two puffs per day). Patients and methods: We randomized 40 well-controlled patients with asthma receiving SFC (250 µg) to two groups; one group of patients received step-down therapy with low-dose SFC (100 µg, two puffs daily) and another group of patients received step-down therapy with high-dose fluticasone propionate (FP) alone (500 µg, daily). The two groups were monitored over 12 months for changes in asthma control test scores, respiratory function (percent forced expiratory volume in 1 second, maximal expiratory flow rate at 50% of the vital capacity [%FEF50], and maximal expiratory flow rate at 25% of the vital capacity [%FEF25]), and the concentration of fractional exhaled nitric oxide. Results: There was no significant difference in the dropout rate between the SFC and FP groups. Low-dose SFC maintained the stability of all parameters over 12 months, whereas the FP group exhibited a rapid 5% decrease in forced expiratory volume in 1 second within 2 months after discontinuation of salmeterol; furthermore, after 10 months, there was a gradual decrease in %FEF50 and %FEF25. Conclusion: This study suggests that a balanced step-down protocol, including both ICS and LABA, is essential in providing long-term stability to patients with mild-to-moderate well-controlled asthma. Human–robot interaction during general service tasks in home or retail environment has been proven challenging, partly because (1) robots lack high-level context-based cognition and (2) humans cannot intuit the perception state of robots as they can for other humans. To solve these two problems, we present a complete robot system that has been given the highest evaluation score at the Customer Interaction Task of the Future Convenience Store Challenge at the World Robot Summit 2018, which implements several key technologies: (1) a hierarchical spatial concepts formation for general robot task planning and (2) a mixed reality interface to enable users to intuitively visualize the current state of the robot perception and naturally interact with it. The results obtained during the competition indicate that the proposed system allows both non-expert operators and end users to achieve human–robot interactions in customer service environments. Furthermore, we describe a detailed scenario including employee operation and customer interaction which serves as a set of requirements for service robots and a road map for development. The system integration and task scenario described in this paper should be helpful for groups facing customer interaction challenges and looking for a successfully deployed base to build on. The understanding and acquisition of a language in a real-world environment is an important task for future robotics services. Natural language processing and cognitive robotics have both been focusing on the problem for decades using machine learning. However, many problems remain unsolved despite significant progress in machine learning (such as deep learning and probabilistic generative models) during the past decade. The remaining problems have not been systematically surveyed and organized, as most of them are highly interdisciplinary challenges for language and robotics. This study conducts a survey on the frontier of the intersection of the research fields of language and robotics, ranging from logic probabilistic programming to designing a competition to evaluate language understanding systems. We focus on cognitive developmental robots that can learn a language from interaction with their environment and unsupervised learning methods that enable robots to learn a language without hand-crafted training data. Background: Improving patients' oral hygiene is an option for preventing postoperative pneumonia that may be caused by aspiration of oral and pharyngeal secretions. Whether preoperative oral care by a dentist can decrease postoperative complications remains controversial. A retrospective cohort study was undertaken to assess the association between preoperative oral care and postoperative complications among patients who underwent major cancer surgery. Methods: The nationwide administrative claims database in Japan was analysed. Patients were identified who underwent resection of head and neck, oesophageal, gastric, colorectal, lung or liver cancer between May 2012 and December 2015. The primary outcomes were postoperative pneumonia and all‐cause mortality within 30 days of surgery. Patient background was adjusted for with inverse probability of treatment weighting using propensity scoring. Results: Of 509 179 patients studied, 81 632 (16·0 per cent) received preoperative oral care from a dentist. A total of 15 724 patients (3·09 per cent) had postoperative pneumonia and 1734 (0·34 per cent) died within 30 days of surgery. After adjustment for potential confounding factors, preoperative oral care by a dentist was significantly associated with a decrease in postoperative pneumonia (3·28 versus 3·76 per cent; risk difference − 0·48 (95 per cent c.i. −0·64 to−0·32) per cent) and all‐cause mortality within 30 days of surgery (0·30 versus 0·42 per cent; risk difference − 0·12 (−0·17 to −0·07) per cent). Conclusion: Preoperative oral care by a dentist significantly reduced postoperative complications in patients who underwent cancer surgery. We present recent observation results of Sgr A* at millimeter obtained with VLBI arrays in Korea and Japan.7 mm monitoring of Sgr A* is part of our AGN large project. The results at 7 epochs during 2013-2014, including high resolution maps, flux density and two-dimensional size measurements are presented. The source shows no significant variation in flux and structure related to the G2 encounter in 2014. According to recent MHD simulations by kawashima et al., flux and magnetic field energy can be expected to increase several years after the encounter; We will keep our monitoring in order to test this prediction.Astrometric observations of Sgr A* were performed in 2015 at 7 and 3.5 millimeter simultaneously. Source-frequency phase referencing was applied and a combined ”core-shift” of Sgr A* and a nearby calibrator was measured.
