The evaluation of tools to accurately identify low birth weight (LBW) and/or premature newborns in resource-limited countries is a research priority. We explored the use of foot length, chest circumference, and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) measured within 24 h as diagnostic tools for identifying newborns who are LBW, premature, or both; and compared measurements taken at birth with those taken at five days of age.An observational study was undertaken in Hoa Binh Province General Hospital, Vietnam, in ethnic minority newborns. Birth weight, foot length, chest circumference, and MUAC were measured within 24 h of birth and in a subset of 200, were repeated on day five of life. Gestational age was estimated using the New Ballard Score. Receiver Operating Characteristic curves and optimal cut-points (the point with the highest sensitivity and specificity where the sensitivity was at least 0.8) were calculated, for predicting prematurity, LBW, and both. Measurements within 24 h and at five days of life were compared.485 newborns were recruited. Chest circumference and MUAC measured within 24 h of birth were found to be highly predictive of LBW (both yielding area under the curve [AUC] of 0.98, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.96-0.99), and performed marginally better than foot length (AUC 0.94, 95%CI 0.92-0.96). The optimal cut-points for measurements within 24 h of birth were ≤ 7.4 cm for foot length; ≤ 30.4 cm for chest circumference; and ≤ 9.0 cm for MUAC. This study aims to establish the association of family support and nutrition and health education by health workers with the status of overweight and obesity among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) receiving outpatient treatment at a hospital. This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 280 outpatients with type 2 diabetes at Bach Mai hospital from December 2019 to September 2020 by using assessments of anthropometric parameters and examining dietary habits and family support, as well as nutrition and health education and counseling by health workers. The prevalence of overweight and obesity in patients with T2DM was 35.4% (51.2% in men and 22.2% in women; P <.05). Patients never or rarely supported by their families or counseled by health workers were more vulnerable to overweight and obesity than those who frequently received support and counseling (OR = 1.41 vs 2.06; P <.05). Family support and counseling from health workers play a crucial role in promoting and sustaining healthy dietary habits and proper physical exercise in diabetic patients, contributing to their lowered risk of overweight and obesity. Objective: The study aims to explore the association between the adherence to dietary recommendations among type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with their fasting blood glucose levels. Method: This is a cross-sectional anthropometric and dietary study conducted on 169 T2DM patients receiving outpatient treatment at the Central Nursing and Rehabilitation Hospital in Thanh Hoa provincial hospital in Vietnam in 2018. Results: The rate of patients who had good fasting glycemic control was still low (30.8%). Their diets were poor in energy and unbalanced; the contribution of carbohydrates to the total dietary intake was high (68.2%), and only 24.9% of patients consumed 4–6 meals/day. There was a statistically significant association between the dietary intake with carbohydrate dietary intake containing ≥60% carbohydrate and the number of meals per day (<4 meals) with their fasting blood glucose levels (OR = 4.964, p < 0.05 and OR = 16.508; p < 0.01, respectively). Conclusions and recommendations: Hospital staff are advised to combine treatment with dietary counseling to help patients controlling their weights and glycemic levels more efficient, thereby contributing to improving their treatment outcomes. Fifteen new 28-amide derivatives of madecassic acid, isolated from the tropical medicinal herb Centella asiatica (Apiaceae), have been synthesised, and their cytotoxicity on three cancer cell lines, KB (carcinoma cancer), HepG2 (liver cancer) and Lu-1 (lung cancer), was evaluated. The results showed that acetylation of the 2,3,23-hydroxyl group and/or amidation of the 28-COOH group strongly increased the cytotoxicity of the synthesised compounds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main purpose of this paper is to assess the land use and land cover (LULC) changes for thirty years, from 1990–2020, in the Dong Thap Muoi, a flooded land area of the Mekong River Delta of Vietnam using Google Earth Engine and random forest algorithm. The specific purposes are: (1) determine the main LULC classes and (2) compute and analyze the magnitude and rate of changes for these LULC classes. For the above purposes, 128 Landsat images, topographic maps, land use status maps, cadastral maps, and ancillary data were collected and utilized to derive the LULC maps using the random forest classification algorithm. The overall accuracy of the LULC maps for 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2020 are 88.9, 83.5, 87.1, and 85.6%, respectively. The result showed that the unused land was dominant in 1990 with 28.9 % of the total area, but it was primarily converted to the paddy, a new dominant LULC class in 2020 (45.1%). The forest was reduced significantly from 14.4% in 1990 to only 5.5% of the total area in 2020. Whereas at the same time, the built-up increased from 0.3% to 6.2% of the total area. This research may help the authorities design exploitation policies for the Dong Thap Muoi's socio-economic development and develop a new, stable, and sustainable ecosystem, promoting the advantages of the region, early forming a diversified agricultural structure.
