3. Localization of scalar field on the brane-world by coupling with gravity

Abstract

In this paper, we consider a coupling mechanism between the kinetic term and the gravity, in which a coupling function $F(R)$ is introduced into the kinetic term of the five-dimensional scalar field. Based on this scenario, we investigate the localization of scalar fields in three specific braneworld models: the Minkowski brane, the de Sitter brane, and the Anti-de Sitter brane. The brane models considered here are regular with no singularity for scalar curvature. For the Minkowshi brane case, the zero mode can always be localized on the brane, and the massive modes can be localized or quasi-localized on the brane. For the dS$_4$ brane case, two forms of factor $F(R)$ is considered. The zero mode can always be localized, and the massive modes could be quasi-localized on the brane. Besides, with the second coupling factor, the scalar zero mode could be localized on the both sides of the origin of extra dimension, while the massive modes could be quasi-localized on the origin. Lastly, for the AdS$_4$ brane case, the localization of the scalar zero mode requires the consideration of a coupling potential $V(\Phi,\varphi)$, while the massive modes can still be localized on the brane with an infinite number., Comment: 34pages, 17 figures, 2 tables,published in JHEP

4. Kink solutions in generalized 2D dilaton gravity

Abstract

We study static kink solutions in a generalized two-dimensional dilaton gravity model, where the kinetic term of the dilaton is generalized to be an arbitrary function of the canonical one $\mathcal X= -\frac12 (\nabla \varphi)^2$, say $\mathcal F(\mathcal X)$, and the kink is generated by a canonical scalar matter field $\phi$. It is found that for arbitrary $\mathcal F(\mathcal X)$, the background field equations have a simple first-order formalism, and the linear perturbation equation can always be written as a Schr\"odinger-like equation with factorizable Hamiltonian operator. After choosing appropriate $\mathcal F(\mathcal X)$ and superpotential, we obtain a sine-Gordon type kink solution with pure AdS$_2$ metric. The linear perturbation issue of this solution becomes an exactly solvable conformal quantum mechanics problem, if one of the model parameter takes a critical value., Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures

Abstract

Abstract Procaspase 9 is the initiator caspase for apoptosis, but how its levels and activities are maintained remains unclear. The gigantic Inhibitor-of-Apoptosis Protein BIRC6/BRUCE/Apollon inhibits both apoptosis and autophagy by promoting ubiquitylation of proapoptotic factors and the key autophagic protein LC3, respectively. Here we show that BIRC6 forms an anti-parallel U-shaped dimer with multiple previously unannotated domains, including a ubiquitin-like domain, and the proapoptotic factor Smac/DIABLO binds BIRC6 in the central cavity. Notably, Smac outcompetes the effector caspase 3 and the pro-apoptotic protease HtrA2, but not procaspase 9, for binding BIRC6 in cells. BIRC6 also binds LC3 through its LC3-interacting region, probably following dimer disruption of this BIRC6 region. Mutation at LC3 ubiquitylation site promotes autophagy and autophagic degradation of BIRC6. Moreover, induction of autophagy promotes autophagic degradation of BIRC6 and caspase 9, but not of other effector caspases. These results are important to understand how the balance between apoptosis and autophagy is regulated under pathophysiological conditions.

Abstract

The finite element analysis models of the gear temperature field and transmission error are established based on Workbench. The gear temperature field at different revolutions and torques, the gear transmission errors at different speeds and temperatures are analyzed. Simulation of gear temperature field through Ansys Workbench, the distribution results of gear temperature field and gear meshing line temperature field are obtained; the temperature result is used as a load in the simulation study of gear transmission error by means of indirect coupling, and the simulation result of gear transmission error is obtained. The results show that with the increase of gear speed and torque, the gear temperature presents an overall upward trend; the linear relationship between gear revolution, gear torque and temperature variation of gear meshing line is approximately presented. In the simulation analysis of gear transmission error, with the increase of the gear speed and temperature, gear transmission error curve moves up and down respectively, but the peak-to-valley value of the gear transmission error curve does not change much; the gear speed and temperature are approximately linearly related to the variation of the gear transmission errors.
