Context. Binary systems constitute a valuable astrophysics tool for testing our understanding of stellar structure and evolution. Systems containing at least one oscillating component are interesting in this regard because asteroseismology offers independent parameters for the oscillating component that aid in the analysis. Systems of particular interest include those with known inclinations. With ∼0.8 million binary candidates, the two-body orbit catalog (TBO) of Gaia Data Release 3 (DR3) substantially increases the number of known binaries and the quality of the astrometric data available for them. Aims. To enlarge the sample of these astrophysically valuable benchmark objects, we searched for new binary system candidates identified in the Gaia DR3 TBO, for which one component has a detection of solar-like oscillations reported in the literature. Methods. We cross-matched the TBO, the full non-single star (NSS) and eclipsing binary catalogs from Gaia DR3 with catalogs of confirmed solar-like oscillators in the main-sequence and red-giant phase from the NASA Kepler mission and stars in the Southern Continuous Viewing Zone of NASA TESS. The wealth of seismic information is used to characterize the oscillating primary. To test the completeness and robustness of the values reported in the TBO catalog, we performed a similar analysis on stars of the Ninth Catalog of Spectroscopic Binary Orbits (SB9). Results. The analysis of the SB9 reveals an overall completeness factor for the Gaia TBO catalog of up to ∼30% providing reliable orbital parameters for ≥90% of the systems below Porb, SB9 ≲ 250 d. We obtained new 954 unique binary system candidates from Gaia DR3, which host solar-like oscillators, of which we found 45 stars in binary candidates to be on the main sequence and 909 in the red giant phase. Additionally, we report 918 oscillators in potentially long-periodic systems. We present the seismic properties of the full sample and test whether the reported orbital periods are physically possible. For 146 giants, the evolutionary state has been determined from their mixed-mode period spacing, showing a clear trend to long periodic and less eccentric systems in the advanced phases of stellar evolution. Two new eclipsing binary systems, hosting a red-giant primary were found. For another 146 systems hosting oscillating stars, the values for the orbital inclination were found in the TBO. Of 181 TBO candidate systems observed multiple times with APOGEE, 149 (82%) are confirmed as binaries from radial-velocity (RV) measurement. Conclusions. We conclude that the grand majority of the orbital elements reported in the TBO catalog are physically reasonable and realistic. This finding increases the number included in the sample of known solar-like oscillators in binary systems by an order of magnitude. The large fraction of confirmed binaries from APOGEE RV measurements indicates that the TBO catalog is robust. We suggest that due to instrumental noise, the seismically inferred masses and radii of stars observed with the TESS satellite and with an excess of oscillation power of νmax ≲ 30 μHz could be significantly overestimated. The differences in the distributions of the orbital period and eccentricity are due to the accumulative effect of the equilibrium tide acting in these evolved binary systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A methodology is presented that compares the microstructural and mechanical properties of as‐cast and additive‐made ferritic‐austenitic duplex steel 1.4517. Microstructure of approximately equal amounts of ferrite and austenite measured in as‐cast material could not be replicated in post heat‐treated laser powder bed fusion samples after 30 min and 60 min of post heat treatment. This is attributed to nitrogen loss during powder atomization which left fewer austenite formers. Post‐heat treated laser powder bed fusion samples of duplex structure had its austenite content repeatedly adjusted between 38 % and 40 %. As‐built laser powder bed fusion tensile specimens which had a ferritic microstructure recorded high tensile and yield strength but had very poor elongation. Post heat‐treated duplex laser powder bed fusion tensile specimen built in both horizontal and vertical orientations had good tensile and yield strength comparable to conventional casting processes; Tensile strength – 739 MPa (horizontal), 759 MPa (vertical); Yield strength (Rp0.2) – 489 MPa (horizontal), 525 MPa (vertical). The horizontally built duplex specimen had a very high elongation of 32 % than the vertical (11 %) or conventionally reported (22 %). This work establishes the 1.4517 duplex steel as a good candidate with good mechanical properties when processed by additive manufacturing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Time-resolved pump-probe microscopy experiments are presented to demonstrate the impact of laser- processing parameters onto the fundamental interaction processes between ultrashort laser pulses and glass. Our approach includes the implementation of polarization microscopy to detect the transient buildup of pressure waves and stress from single-shot and multi-pulse experiments. The presented data gives insight into the interplay between pulse duration and repetition rate. We see a decrease in length of the absorption zone for increasing pulse durations. The temporal delay between consecutive pulses changes the length of the modification and the strength. Additional experiments foresee the extension to Bessel-like beams and multiple focus spots. Generic omeprazole has been approved in many countries for the treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. However, clinical studies comparing generic to original proton pump inhibitors are limited. To compare the effect of generic omeprazole 20 mg/day with esomeprazole 20 mg/day on intragastric acidity and to investigate the influence of the CYP2C19 metabolizer status. In this randomised, single-blinded, two-way crossover study, 24 healthy Helicobacter pylori-negative subjects, received generic omeprazole (Omep; Hexal AG, Holzkirchen, Germany) 20 mg once daily or esomeprazole 20 mg once daily for five consecutive days. Twenty-four-hour intragastric pH was recorded on day 5 of each treatment. CYP2C19 status was determined by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Over all, there were no statistically significant differences between generic omeprazole and esomeprazole with respect to median intragastric pH (3.5 and 3.9, P = 0.07), the total hours with intragastric pH >4 (10.4 and 11.3, P = 0.29), and during upright (9.6 and 9.1, P = 0.77) or supine (2.2 and 2.2, P = 0.94) position. However, in CYP2C19 rapid metabolizers, esomeprazole was superior to omeprazole, with the percentage of time with intragastric pH >3.0 and pH >3.5 being higher with esomeprazole than with generic omeprazole [Δ = 9% ( P = 0.026) and Δ = 8% ( P = 0.046), respectively]. Overall, generic omeprazole 20 mg appears to provide a similar intragastric acid control when compared with esomeprazole 20 mg. OBJECTIVE: In addition to the sensitization of pain fibers in inflamed tissues, the increased excitability of the spinal cord is an important mechanism of inflammatory pain. Furthermore, spinal neuronal excitability has been suggested to play a role in modulating peripheral inflammation. This study was undertaken to test the hypothesis that spinal actions of the proinflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFalpha) add significantly to both hyperalgesia and maintenance of peripheral inflammation. METHODS: Rats with antigen-induced arthritis (AIA) were treated intrathecally with the TNFalpha-neutralizing compound etanercept continuously during the complete time course of AIA, which was 3 days for the acute phase and 21 days for the chronic phase. During this time, inflammation and pain-related behavior were monitored. Since a role for autonomic control of inflammation was proposed, measures from heart rate time series were obtained in the acute phase. Findings were compared with those in vehicle-treated animals and in animals receiving etanercept intraperitoneally. RESULTS: Spinally administered etanercept acutely reduced pain-related behavior, attenuated both the development and the maintenance of inflammation, and was superior to systemic administration. Parameters indicating autonomic modulation showed a shift toward a sympathetically dominated state in vehicle-treated animals, which was prevented by intrathecal etanercept. CONCLUSION: Our findings indicate that spinal TNFalpha plays an important role in both pain signaling and modulation of peripheral inflammation. Thus, neutralizing this cytokine at the spinal site not only represents a putative therapeutic option for different pain syndromes, but may be directly used to attenuate peripheral inflammation. Abstract: We describe the case of a 17 month old boy with recurrence of congenital diaphragmatic hernia accompanied by splenic infarction and incarceration of colon. Primary surgery had been carried out thoracoscopically. On recurrence we found parts of the mesentery attached to the thoracic side of the diaphragm. Torsion of the spleen and consecutive hemorrhagic infarction was caused by the shift of splenic vessels into the thorax. Splenectomy was therefore made necessary. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

As part of the LBA-CLAIRE-98 experiment, ground level atmospheric concentrations of O3, CO, hydroperoxides and organic acids were measured in the rainforest region in Surinam. Measurements of CO and O3 were also made at a coastal site.The results suggest that a significant consumption of 'boundary layer' ozone occurs over the forested region of Surinam, with an estimated net ozone consumption of about 5% hr^-1 during daytime. This would be mainly explainedby a low photochemical production and high dry deposition to the forest vegetation. Compared to other tropical sites, lower levels of H2O2 were observed at the rainforest site, with anaverage boundary layer concentration of 0.55+/- 0.2 nmol mol-1. Also acetic and formic acids showed relatively low average boundary layer mixing ratios; 1.1=/- 0.4 Mu mol mol-1 and 1.4+/- 0.5 nmol mol-1, respectively. Significant correlationswere found between both acids and between the acids and hydrogen peroxide, suggesting an atmospheric source for the acids. From the available observations we discuss possible implications of our measurements for the O3, HO2, and NOx budgets and concentrations in the boundary layer. We conclude that, despite the high solar irradiation, relatively low levels of O3, H2O2, HCOOH and CH3COOH are observed inthe boundary layer of the rainforest of Surinam, probably due to lowlevels of NOx and high levels of VOCs, which leads to loss of OH and HO2 radicals.
