Byline: Milos Milacic Accounting for more than 75% of the mass and more than 90% of the molecules (Air Products, 2001), hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe. In the last decade, hydrogen has gained the attention of the automotive industry as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel. Additionally, growing hydrogen fuelling infrastructure is making hydrogen an increasingly appealing alternative to gasoline. In this paper, we present the major fuel cell vehicle accomplishments of the Ford Motor Company in the past 10 years.

The new car models for 1993 feature state-of-the-art technology that only a competitive industry can develop. For General Motors, a slight modification of its offerings has produced top-of-the-line car designs. Technical refinement that resulted in electronically controlled transmission and overhead-cam V-6 engines defines Ford Motor Co's latest car editions. For Crysler, new integrated designs and precision engineering for its LH series will surely arrest consumer attention. Nissan's new limited Edition 240 SX SE with powerfulmotors would certainly not be so limited in the days to come while Toyota's unlimited editions will surely satisfy every motorist's needs.

The design objective should also be to avoid frequencies of these subsystems in the range 4-8 Hz, to which the human body is sensitive. The objective of this paper is to improve the Ford cargo truck cabin. We have avoided to make any changes regarding the design of the above-mentioned parts and to improve the driving comfort without increasing production costs. Therefore, the focus of the work has been to improve the cabin suspension elements (suspension springs and shock absorbers) in order to achieve the design objectives.

Ford has been involved in climatic testing for over 30 years and has invested 80 million pounds sterling in new test facilities at its Dunton Engineering Centre, England. Efforts are being made by Ford Motor Co to produce technologies that will lessen the negative impact of cars in the environment. Such technologies include fuel cells which will produce electricity through combination of oxygen and hydrogen in an electrochemical reaction.

Ford Motor Co uses Aries ConceptStation MCAE software to speed development, with the goal of producing new cars 36 months after design begins. Design traditionally involves a design engineer, a CAD operator and a finite element analyst, but the Concept Station reduces the time the latter two need and gives the designer more control. A new rear lower control arm took 95 days rather than 229 required for prior methods to redesign, and weighed 40% less.
