The paper aims at providing a linguistic account on the description of agricultural and societal practices during the first part of the XX c. narrated in a recent book written with large excerpts in the Sallentinian dialect of Sava (Tarentum, Southern Italy). Diffuse references are made to popular traditions as seen by the eyes of a young boy and rivisited as an old man with the true words of the local dialect which are here emphasized. This paper gives an essay of an unpublished book written in the dialect of San Pietro Vernotico (Brindisi, Southern Italy) by the author's grandfather.
