Pollination services are affected by landscape context, farming management and pollinator community structure, all of which impact flower visitation rates, pollen deposition and final production. We studied these processes in Argentina for highbush blueberry crops, which depend on pollinators to produce marketable yields.We studied how land cover and honeybee stocking influence the abundance of wild and managed pollinators in blueberry crops, using structural equation modelling to disentangle the cascading effects through which pollinators contribute to blueberry fruit number, size, nutritional content and overall yield.All pollinator functional groups responded to landscape changes at a spatial scale under 1000 m, and the significance or direction of the effects were modulated by the field‐level deployment of honeybee hives.Fruit diameter increased with pollen deposited, but decreased with honeybee abundance, which, had indirect effects on fruit acidity. Honeybees had a positive effect on the number of fruit produced by the plants and also benefited the overall yield (kg plant−1) through independent effects on both the quality and quantity components of fruit production.Synthesis and applications. Deployment of beehives in blueberry fields can buffer, but not compensate for the negative effects on honeybee abundance produced by surrounding large scale none‐flowering crops. Such compensation would require high‐quality beehives by monitoring their health and strength. The contribution of honeybees to crop production is not equal across production metrics. That is, higher abundance of honeybees increases the number of berries produced but at the cost of smaller and more acidic fruits, potentially reducing their market value. Composite resin is universally used for posterior teeth restorations. Fibers have been suggested for the mechanical improvement of the restorations. This study assessed the fracture resistance of class II fiber-reinforced composite restorations and compared it with the fracture resistance of three control groups: (1) healthy teeth, (2) non-fiber-reinforced restorations and (3) unrestored cavities. A search was performed using PubMed, Web of Science and Google Scholar from 15 May to 12 June 2023. Only in vitro studies from the last 10 years were included for this systematic analysis. This study was registered in the PROSPERO database, it followed PRISMA guidelines and the risk of bias was assessed using the QUIN tool. Fracture resistance median values, in Newtons (N), were calculated for the experimental and control groups (95% confidence interval). For pairwise comparison, nonparametric tests (p < 0.05) were applied. Twenty-four in vitro studies met the inclusion criteria. The fracture resistance of the experimental group was 976.0 N and differed (p < 0.05) from all controls. The experimental group showed lower values of fracture resistance than healthy teeth (1459.9 N; p = 0.048) but higher values than non-fiber-reinforced restorations (771.0 N; p = 0.008) and unrestored cavities (386.6 N; p < 0.001). In vitro systematic outcomes evidenced that glass and/or polyethylene fibers improved the fracture resistance of composite restorations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura) (Diptera Drosophilidae), spotted-wing Drosophila (SWD), has recently invaded Argentina, spreading very quickly through different fruit-growing regions. Because of the risk represented by SWD for the national berry industry, it is necessary to develop biological alternatives for its control. Determine the presence of native natural enemies associated with SWD is important to develop biological control programs against this pest. In this study, we present the results of a field survey aimed to collect and identify Hymenoptera parasitoids associated with SWD in organic raspberry crops. We found an almost irrelevant parasitization rate on SWD pupae. The few parasitoids collected were identified as a new species of Dieucoila Ashmead, Dieucoila octoflagella Reche sp. n., which is here described and characterized in comparison with other species in the genus Dieucoila. The first records of Feltiella curtistylus Gagné (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) in Argentina are reported. Larvae from this species were captured in strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) leaflets heavily infested with Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranichidae) in Famaillá, province of Tucumán, Argentina (27°03'S, 65°25'W). In 2015 (June, September and October), 16 larvae were collected; in 2016 (October, November and December), 23 larvae; and in 2017 (September, October and November), 49 larvae. Since F. curtistylus was found associated to a mite of agricultural importance in strawberry crops. This predatory gall midge has a potential for being considered a biological control agent. Opius bellusis a neotropical larval-prepupal parasitoid known to attack the pestiferous fruit fly,Anastrepha fraterculus. Due to interest in the use of native parasitoids in forthcoming fruit fly biocontrol programmes in Argentina,O. belluswas colonised for the first time using laboratory-rearedA. fraterculuslarvae. A series of experiments were conducted to (1) best achieve an efficient parasitoid rearing by determining optimal larval host age, host:parasitoid ratio and host exposure time and (2) assess their potential as biological control agents by determining reproductive parameters. The most productive exposure regimen was: 7–9 d-old (early and middle third-instars)A. fraterculuslarvae for 4 h at a 4:1 host:parasitoid ratio; this array of factors was sufficient to achieve the highest average adult emergence (48%) and an offspring sex ratio at equitable proportion. Increasing both host:parasitoid ratio further than 4:1 and the host exposure time beyond 4 h did not significantly enhance parasitoid female offspring yield. Females produced eggs for 29.5 ± 1.4 days. At 32 days of age, 50% of the females were still alive. The majority of the progeny were produced by females between 20 and 24 d-old. At 26°C, gross fecundity rate, net reproductive rate, intrinsic rate of increase and mean generation time were 20.7 ± 4.2 offspring/female, 9.6 ± 2.5 females/newborn females, 0.06 ± 0.01 females/female/day and 8.4 ± 0.2 days, respectively. The long lifespan and reproductive parameters suggest that this parasitoid species has suitable attributes for mass-rearing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
