We analyze the transformation of a very broad class of metrics that can be expressed in terms of static coordinates. Starting from a general ansatz, we obtain a relation for the parameters in which one can impose further symmetries or restrictions. One of the simplest restrictions leads to FLRW cases, while transforming from the initial static to other static-type coordinates can lead to near horizon coordinates, Wheeler--Regge, and isotropic coordinates, among others. As less restrictive cases, we show an indirect route for obtaining Kruskal-Szekeres within this approach, as well as Lema\^{\i}tre coordinates. We use Schwarzschild spacetime as a prototype for testing the procedure in individual cases. Traditionally, cognitive and computer scientists have viewed intelligence solipsistically, as a property of unitary agents devoid of social context. Given the success of contemporary learning algorithms, we argue that the bottleneck in artificial intelligence (AI) progress is shifting from data assimilation to novel data generation. We bring together evidence showing that natural intelligence emerges at multiple scales in networks of interacting agents via collective living, social relationships and major evolutionary transitions, which contribute to novel data generation through mechanisms such as population pressures, arms races, Machiavellian selection, social learning and cumulative culture. Many breakthroughs in AI exploit some of these processes, from multi-agent structures enabling algorithms to master complex games like Capture-The-Flag and StarCraft II, to strategic communication in Diplomacy and the shaping of AI data streams by other AIs. Mathematics as an area of study occupies an important place in higher education. Due in part to its utility in other disciplines as well as its role in student learning, institutions of higher education (IHEs) often have large numbers of mathematics faculty with different balances of teaching and research in different ranks and appointment structures. Most flagship IHEs, especially state land-grant institutions, have large undergraduate populations taking mathematics courses in many cases built around the widespread use of calculus and the connections between mathematics and science, technology, and engineering. These connections have made mathematics departments essential to universities\cite{olson2012engage} and emphasized the critical role math plays in supporting student success \cites{reinholz2020time,calcscience} in all areas of post-secondary education. We tend to take that essential nature of mathematics at the undergraduate level, and for research universities at the graduate level, as a given, but that characterization no longer holds for some IHEs.

Among the silicon bearing species discovered in the interstellar medium, SiS and SiO stand out as key tracers due to their distinct chemistry and abundances in interstellar and circumstellar environments. Our objective is to enhance the network of Si- and S-bearing chemical reactions for a gas-grain model in molecular clouds, encompassing both low and high metallicities. We have calculated the energies and rate coefficients for 6 neutral atom-diatom reactions involved in the SiCS triatomic system, with a special focus on the C+SiS and S+SiC collisions. We employ the coupled cluster method with single and double substitutions and a perturbative treatment of triple substitutions (CCSD(T)) refined at the explicitly correlated CCSD(T)-F12 level. With these computational results in conjunction with data from the literature, we construct an extended network of neutral-neutral chemical reactions. We performed time-dependent models employing the Nautilus gas-grain code, setting the gas temperature to 10 K and the density to 2x10$^4$ cm$^{-3}$. The temperature dependence for the reactions involving SiS were modelled using $k(T)=\alpha \left( T/300 \right)^{\beta} \exp{(-\gamma/T)}$. The high-metallicity models significantly boost the SiS production. Higher initial abundances of C, S, and Si, roughly $\sim$2, 190, and 210 times higher, respectively, contribute to this. Around 10$^3$ yr, destruction mechanisms become relevant. The proposed production reaction S + SiC $\rightarrow$ C + SiS, mitigates these effects. By expanding the gas reaction network using a high metallicity model, we derived estimates for the abundances of interstellar molecules. The inclusion of neutral-neutral mechanisms, particularly via Si+HS and S+SiC channels, played a pivotal role in determining SiS abundance. The impact forces during switching operations of short-stroke actuators may cause bouncing, audible noise and mechanical wear. The application of soft-landing control strategies to these devices aims at minimizing the impact velocities of their moving components to ultimately improve their lifetime and performance. In this paper, a novel approach for soft-landing trajectory planning, including probability functions, is proposed for optimal control of the actuators. The main contribution of the proposal is that it considers uncertainty in the contact position and hence the obtained trajectories are more robust against system uncertainties. The problem is formulated as an optimal control problem and transformed into a two-point boundary value problem for its numerical resolution. Simulated and experimental tests have been performed using a dynamic model and a commercial short-stroke solenoid valve. The results show a significant improvement in the expected velocities and accelerations at contact with respect to past solutions in which the contact position is assumed to be perfectly known., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures. Rogue waves are an intriguing nonlinear phenomenon arising across different scales, ranging from ocean waves through optics to Bose-Einstein condensates. We describe the emergence of rogue-like wave dynamics in a reaction-diffusion system that arise as a result of a subcritical Turing instability. This state is present in a regime where all time-independent states are unstable, and consists of intermittent excitation of spatially localized spikes, followed by collapse to an unstable state and subsequent regrowth. We characterize the spatiotemporal organization of spikes and show that in sufficiently large domains the dynamics are consistent with a memoryless process., Comment: 6 pages, 7 figures

Microfluidics, the study of fluids in microscopic channels, has led to important advances in fields as diverse as microelectronics, biotechnology and chemistry. Microfluidic research is primarily based on the use of microfluidic chips, low-cost devices that can be used to perform laboratory experiments using small amounts of fluid. These systems, however, require advanced control mechanisms in order to accurately achieve the flow rates and pressures required in the experiments. In this paper, we present the design of a model predictive controller intended to regulate the fluid flows in one of these systems. The results obtained, both through simulations and real experiments performed on the device, show that predictive control is an ideal technique to control these systems, especially taking into account all the existing constraints., Comment: 12 pages, 17 figures. Digital images and videos play a very important role in everyday life. Nowadays, people have access the affordable mobile devices equipped with advanced integrated cameras and powerful image processing applications. Technological development facilitates not only the generation of multimedia content, but also the intentional modification of it, either with recreational or malicious purposes. This is where forensic techniques to detect manipulation of images and videos become essential. This paper proposes a forensic technique by analysing compression algorithms used by the H.264 coding. The presence of recompression uses information of macroblocks, a characteristic of the H.264-MPEG4 standard, and motion vectors. A Vector Support Machine is used to create the model that allows to accurately detect if a video has been recompressed.
