In a world of fluctuating asset prices, many firms find the need to hedge in order to avoid or reduce losses. From a gold miner selling gold derivatives to airlines buying oil futures to protect against rising fuel costs, hedging is common practice across many different industries. In this paper, we provide students with a simplified example of a bank hedging against interest rate risk. We provide an exercise that allows students to analyze the interest risk of a bank, calculate how to hedge that risk, and examine the impacts of hedging under different scenarios.

Heightened political awareness marked the collective paintings that composed the Wall of Respect in Chicago, IL, in 1967. The mural was conceived by members of the Organization of Black American Culture (OBAC) who viewed cultural expression as a weapon against black oppression. The primary aim of OBAC was to raise the self-esteem of African Americans and stimulate revolutionary action through art. The theme 'Black Heroes' was chosen by OBAC to provide positive role models for guidance. The Wall of Respect revived mural painting and gave credibility to African American artists.

A topic receiving limited attention in most finance courses is multi-winner auctions. Students are often familiar with the typical, single winner, E-bay type of auction. In this type of auction, the winner pays the price of their bid and the auction is over. Equity auctions are conducted in a much different manner as there are multiple winners which all receive the same price regardless of the individual bid price. In this paper we facilitate the learning of auctions by simulating equity auctions in which students compete with one another. Students are able to learn about how auctions work, auction bidding strategy, and the calculation of profits and losses on both types of auctions. We find that comprehension and retention increases significantly when the auction process is performed directly by the students as an in-class simulation. African American art in the 1960s was undoubtedly more artistic than the proclaimed Renaissance of African American art in the 1920s. Two leading African American scholars, W.E.B. DuBois and Alain Locke, share the same opinion that the so-called Renaissance of the 1920s was written from a white man's point of view and racial chauvinism and exhibitionism followed after the movement had gained momentum. In contrast, the artwork of African American artists in the 1960s was intellectually and technically proficient. This was because of the greater opportunities offered during that time.

In the article, the author discusses the history of the African American art movement in the U.S. as of mid-2014. He claims that in the early 1960s, he and other artists like Barbara Jones, Carolyn Lawrence and Jae Jarrell established the group Organization of Black American Culture (OBAC) artists' workshop.
