This article discusses the challenges of manually screening electroencephalogram (EEG) signals for emotion classification and proposes a novel automated method using Clefia pattern-based features. The proposed model achieves high accuracy in classifying arousal, dominance, and valence cases using two public databases. The Clefia pattern-based method offers low computational complexity and high accuracy for automated emotion classification using EEG signals. We report a unique case of calcification of bicuspid valve was extending to left ventricular outflow tract and attached to interventricular septum which caused subvalvular stenosis. There are important unexplained points in cancer formation and its treatment with drugs. Some of the cancer drugs used in the treatment affect the genetic material of cancer cells. These types of drugs have a high toxicity. Despite important drugs used in cancer treatment have been developed today, there are serious problems in developing a drug with high specificity. This is because the pharmacological action points where drugs can affect cancerous cells and which are different from normal cells have not been fully determined. The current article reveals hypotheses about some extrachromosomal action points that may be beneficial in cancer treatment. Aim: It was aimed to determine antioxidant properties of extracts obtained from Allium czelghauricum, Lathyrus karsianus and Onosma nigricaule species and antioxidant effects of plant extracts on malathion-induced oxidant parameters in mice. Material and Method: Expermental animals were seperated into ten groups, each consisting of ten mice. First group was designed as a control group. Second group received 0.2 mL/kg of saline, and third group received the same dose of corn oil. Fourth (100 mg/kg malathion), fifth (100 mg/kg Allium czelghauricum), sixth (100 mg/kg Lathyrus karsianus), seventh (100 mg/kg Onosma nigricaule), eighth (100 mg/kg malathion+100 mg/kg Allium czelghauricum), ninth (100 mg/kg malathion+100 mg/kg Lathyrus karsianus) and the tenth group (100 mg/kg malathion+100 mg/kg Onosma nigricaule) were given daily intraperitoneally in the determined amounts. Applications were made for 21 days. After administration, total oxidant and total antioxidant capacities, body and liver weights, and histopathological changes in the liver were investigated in the serum and liver of mice. Results: It is observed that plant extracts significantly inhibit the dose dependent concentrations of nitric oxide radical. A high amount of polyphenolic compounds were detected in plant extracts. While applied malathion mice weighed lighter, an increase in their liver was observed. Pathological changes were found in the liver of mice given malathion in histopalogical examinations. Total oxidant capacity (TOC) of serum and liver was significantly higher compared with control group; however, a decrease was observed in total antioxidant capacity (TAC). While the TOC in the serum and liver of mice given malathion and plant extract decreased compared to the malathion group, it was found that there was an increase in TAC. Conclusion: In vitro study, it was revealed that methanol extracts of plants have antioxidant effects. There are conflicting results about the early administration of beta-blockers (bb) on in-hospital mortality and arrhythmias. Here, we wanted to investigate the effects of chronic bb use on in-hospital Atrial Fibrillation (AF) development in ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) patients. A total of 814 consecutive patients with STEMI were included in the study. They were divided into two groups according to whether they are using bb on admission or not. They were followed for AF development in-hospital and predictors of AF were determined by multivariable logistic regression analysis. Of the 814 patients, 103 (12.67%) patients were already using bb, while 711 (87.3%) were not. There were no significant differences in the frequency of AF development [3 (%2.9) vs 30 (%4.2), p =.788] between the groups. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that left atrial (LA) diameter is the only independent predictor of in-hospital AF development. Our study showed that chronic bb use does not have an effect on in-hospital AF development in STEMI patients. Nevertheless, LA diameter was found to be an independent predictor of AF. Objectives: In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the operations performed for Ebstein 's anomaly retrospectively. Study design: Between July 2003 and February 2018, the medical records of 13 patients who were operated on with the diagnosis of Ebstein's anomaly were reviewed retrospectively according to the clinical symptoms, surgical procedure, and postoperative follow-up. Results: Of the thirteen patients, 46.2% (n = 6) were female and 53.8% (n = 7) were male. The mean age of the cases is 13,15 ± 11,07 years (2-31 years). Preoperative echocardiographic evaluations revealed severe tricuspid regurgitation in 92.3% (n = 12) of the patients. In these patients, tricuspid valve replacement was performed in 4, tricuspid valve plasty in 5, Cone reconstruction in 2, and cava-pulmonary shunt with tricuspid valve plasty in 2 were performed. Patients were followed for an average of 6.31 ± 3.40 (1-14 years). Atrial septal defect closure in 53.8% (n = 7) patients and mitral valve replacement in 7.7% (n = 1) patients were performed due to additional anomalies. Atrial fibrillation/flutter was present in 23.1% of the patients and ablation procedure was applied to these three patients. Conclusion: Long-term clinical follow-up is required for the signs and symptoms of heart failure, arrhythmia, cyanosis and other related findings both in operated and non-operated patients with Ebstein's anomaly. Objectives Vascular endothelial dysfunction leads to the emerging of free oxygen radicals, deficiency of antioxidant system, forming of oxidative stress, inflammatory processes and release of proinflammatory cytokines. These things play big role in the development of primary varicose veins. Prolidase has been reported as an indicator of oxidative stress in diabetes, diabetic neuropathy, non-ulcerous dyspepsia, osteoporosis, polycystic over syndrome and many other diseases. The aim of this study is to evaluate the oxidative stress at venous insufficiency and to provide preliminary knowledge about the role of prolidase enzyme in varicose vein formation. Methods Ninety patients aged between 22 and 80 (47.35 ± 17.69) were included in the study and divided into 3 groups. Group1(n:30)(Serum control group): Patients without venous insufficiency. Group 2(n:30)(Tissue control group(healthy vein group): Patients underwent coronary artery bypass surgery (the remaining portion of great saphenous vein used as coronary artery bypass graft used as normal tissue) . Group 3(n:30)(Varicose vein group): Patients underwent varicose vein surgery (varicose vein and serum of these patients were used for study). Total Oxidant Status (TOS), Total Antioxidant Status (TAS), Oxidative Stress Index (OSI) and Prolidase enzyme levels were detected in tissue and serum samples. Results No significant changes were detected between three groups' serum samples in oxidative stress parameters and in the prolidase enzyme activity. The tissue TOS and OSI were higher in varicose vein group according to normal vein group and this was found statistically significant. And TAC levels in varicose vein group were significantly lower than normal vein group. Prolidase enzyme activity in varicose vein group was found higher according to normal vein group. Conclusion Oxidative stress plays a role at the development of primary varicose veins at biochemical level. Prolidase enzyme related with oxidative stress may play an important role in the pathogenesis of primary varicose veins. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
