Objectives: This study conducts a systematic literature review to explore the role of statistical models and methods in the design of orthopedic implants, with a specific focus on hip arthroplasty. Through a comprehensive analysis of the scientific literature, it aims to understand the relevance and applicability of these models in implant development and research trends in the field of design. Methods: Data analysis and co-occurrence mapping techniques were employed to investigate the statistical models used as predictors of satisfaction in hip arthroplasty and in implant design. This approach facilitated a detailed and objective assessment of existing literature, revealing key trends and identifying gaps in current knowledge. Key findings: The review's findings underscore a burgeoning interest in implant customization, with a significant emphasis on leveraging statistical techniques for optimal design. The logistic model methodology was applied to analyze a survey of hip surgery specialists, revealing that the physician's age does not influence the decision to use a customized implant. Furthermore, the review highlighted a knowledge gap at the intersection of statistics and design discipline concerning implant customization. Significance: Despite the recognized importance of customization in implant design, there remains a dearth of contributions from the design discipline perspective in the existing literature, indicating substantial room for improvement and the need for interdisciplinary integration. Conclusion: The integration of statistical methods in implant design is crucial, emphasizing the need for multidisciplinary approaches and customization to enhance patient satisfaction. This study provides a foundation for future research that could transform the field of hip arthroplasty through more personalized and effective solutions.

Common Spatial Pattern (CSP) has been recognized as a standard and powerful method for the identification of Electroencephalography (EEG)-based Motor Imagery (MI) tasks when implementing brain–computer interface (BCI) systems towards the motor rehabilitation of lost movements. The combination of BCI systems with robotic systems, such as upper limb exoskeletons, has proven to be a reliable tool for neuromotor rehabilitation. Therefore, in this study, the effects of temporal and frequency segmentation combined with layer increase for spatial filtering were evaluated, using three variations of the CSP method for the identification of passive movement vs. MI+passive movement. The passive movements were generated using a left upper-limb exoskeleton to assist flexion/extension tasks at two speeds (high—85 rpm and low—30 rpm). Ten healthy subjects were evaluated in two recording sessions using Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) as a classifier, and accuracy (ACC) and False Positive Rate (FPR) as metrics. The results allow concluding that the use of temporal, frequency or spatial selective information does not significantly (p< 0.05) improve task identification performance. Furthermore, dynamic temporal segmentation strategies may perform better than static segmentation tasks. The findings of this study are a starting point for the exploration of complex MI tasks and their application to neurorehabilitation, as well as the study of brain effects during exoskeleton-assisted MI tasks.

The Land of Vorarlberg is Austria’s second smallest but most densely populated province after Vienna. Known for its innovative timber architecture, Vorarlberg’s approach integrates ecological, economic, functional, and aesthetic considerations, as championed by Wolfgang Ritsch of the Vorarlberger Architektur Institut (VAI). The region’s timber industry has faced challenges, including local provincialism and modernist material preferences, but gained prominence in the 1990s with the establishment of the Baukünstler group and the Vorarlberger Bauschule, recognised for their contributions to timber construction. Key to this development is Vorarlberg’s significant woodland, covering one-third of its area, and its commitment to sustainable forest management. Regional timber architecture aligns with the principles of appropriate technology, emphasizing eco-responsible, community-driven innovations. Vorarlberg’s timber architecture exemplifies a collaborative effort between designers and craftsmen, focusing on the use of local resources and high construction quality. The essay represents the introduction of notable projects including multifunctional public buildings, schools, offices, and residential complexes, reflecting the region’s commitment to sustainable development and architectural excellence. This ongoing innovation in wood-integrated solutions reinforces Vorarlberg as a hub for eco-friendly and culturally resonant architectural practices.

Starting with theoretical reflections, the issue delves into design experiences across the past, present, and future, illustrating the significant role of timber technology in the Alpine region. In an interview with Hermann Kaufmann, a leading figure in timber construction both locally in Vorarlberg and internationally, we gain insights into the future of timber construction technology from a historical and biographical standpoint. Kaufmann, with his extensive background in the timber construction industry, having been actively involved in workshops and worksites since childhood due to his family’s background in carpentry, provides a valuable perspective on exploring the potential and challenges of timber construction technology. One crucial consideration is the urgent need to decarbonise the built environment in response to the ongoing climate and environmental crisis. Drawing from Kaufmann’s expertise, the discussion also addresses the interplay between timber as a natural material and the increasingly stringent regulations shaping the field of architecture.

This review of projects, selected from the provinces of Turin and Cuneo, represents some interesting examples of wooden buildings that often interact with pre-existing structures. In this sense, the use of wooden construction systems demonstrates the remarkable flexibility of this material in relating to existing buildings. Different approaches emerge: in the case of the former Casermette of Moncenisio, there are new buildings inserted within the pre-existing structure, while in the subsequent examples, the new intervention operates through an adjacency to the existing buildings. These projects are part of operations aimed at enhancing local wood, virtuously integrating into regenerative processes of the territory.

Abstract Parkinson’s disease (PD) and essential tremor (ET) are prevalent movement disorders that mainly affect elderly people, presenting diagnostic challenges due to shared clinical features. While both disorders exhibit distinct speech patterns—hypokinetic dysarthria in PD and hyperkinetic dysarthria in ET—the efficacy of speech assessment for differentiation remains unexplored. Developing technology for automatic discrimination could enable early diagnosis and continuous monitoring. However, the lack of data for investigating speech behavior in these patients has inhibited the development of a framework for diagnostic support. In addition, phonetic variability across languages poses practical challenges in establishing a universal speech assessment system. Therefore, it is necessary to develop models robust to the phonetic variability present in different languages worldwide. We propose a method based on Gaussian mixture models to assess domain adaptation from models trained in German and Spanish to classify PD and ET patients in Czech. We modeled three different speech dimensions: articulation, phonation, and prosody and evaluated the models’ performance in both bi-class and tri-class classification scenarios (with the addition of healthy controls). Our results show that a fusion of the three speech dimensions achieved optimal results in binary classification, with accuracies up to 81.4 and 86.2% for monologue and /pa-ta-ka/ tasks, respectively. In tri-class scenarios, incorporating healthy speech signals resulted in accuracies of 63.3 and 71.6% for monologue and /pa-ta-ka/ tasks, respectively. Our findings suggest that automated speech analysis, combined with machine learning is robust, accurate, and can be adapted to different languages to distinguish between PD and ET patients.

The present study evaluates the response to betahistine in patients who presented vestibular drops attacks in the context of Ménière’s disease (MD) and the factors that can predict an unfavorable response to it. A total of 43 patients were analyzed, out of which 33 were diagnosed with MD. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection. Data as regards age, accompanying symptoms, etiological diagnosis and response to MD treatment were collected. A statistical analysis was carried out, and we found that the disease evolution time and specific alterations in the vestibulospinal and oculomotor physical examination present an unfavorable response to betahistine. Failures for betahistine were treated with intratympanic gentamicin, with which symptomatic control was achieved in all cases.

Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of blindness in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Cardiovascular risk factors, such as hypertension, obesity, and dyslipidemia, may play a crucial role in the development and progression of DR, though the evidence remains mixed. This study aimed to assess cardiovascular risk factors as independent predictors of DR and to develop a predictive model for DR progression in T2DM patients. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted on 377 patients with T2DM who underwent a comprehensive eye exam. Clinical data, including blood pressure, lipid profile, BMI, and smoking status, were collected. DR staging was determined through fundus photography and classified as No DR, Non-Proliferative DR (NPDR), and Mild, Moderate, Severe, or Proliferative DR (PDR). A Multivariate Logistic Regression was used to evaluate the association between cardiovascular risk factors and DR presence. Several machine learning models, including Random Forest, XGBoost, and Support Vector Machines, were applied to assess the predictive value of cardiovascular risk factors and identify key predictors. Model performance was evaluated using accuracy, precision, recall, and ROC-AUC. Results: The prevalence of DR in the cohort was 41.6%, with 34.5% having NPDR and 7.1% having PDR. A multivariate analysis identified systolic blood pressure (SBP), LDL cholesterol, and body mass index (BMI) as independent predictors of DR progression (p < 0.05). The Random Forest model showed a moderate predictive ability, with an AUC of 0.62 for distinguishing between the presence and absence of DR XGBoost showing a better performance, featuring a ROC-AUC of 0.68, while SBP, HDL cholesterol, and BMI were consistently identified as the most important predictors across models. After tuning, the XGBoost model showed a notable improvement, with an ROC-AUC of 0.72. Conclusions: Cardiovascular risk factors, particularly BP and BMI, play a significant role in the progression of DR in patients with T2DM. The predictive models, especially XGBoost, showed moderate accuracy in identifying DR stages, suggesting that integrating these risk factors into clinical practice may improve early detection and intervention strategies for DR.

Backround: Depression is a significant concern in clinical and preclinical psychoneurobiological sciences due to its high prevalence and its individual and collective consequences. Identifying efficient biomarkers for accurate diagnosis is crucial, with ideal biomarkers having detectable serum levels and conformational and thermal stability. This study aims to identify stable plasma biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of major depressive disorder, as the pathogenesis of the disorder remains incompletely understood, affecting diagnosis accuracy. Methods: Thus, this study included ten MDD patients and eight healthy controls. The present work analyzed miRNAs in patients with major depressive disorder compared to healthy controls. Results: Eleven specific miRNAs, particularly hsa-miR-874-3p; hsa-let-7d-5p; and hsa-miR-93-3p showed upregulation-type plasma variations in the group of patients with major depressive disorder. miRNA functionality is linked to depressive pathophysiology. Conclusions: This study identifies a “bouquet” of miRNAs with significant upregulation variations in patients with major depressive disorder, suggesting further research to determine their suitability for personalization and evaluation, ultimately becoming integral components of major depression serological evaluations.

Over 60% of reported failures for reactive power compensation systems are given for damage to electrical circuit breaker contacts. This paper presents a study on the development of microwave technology for sintering of W–Cu–Cr alloys at 1012 °C for 65 min using 623.38 W microwave power, as well as microwave joining at 231 °C of the W–Cu–Cr composite material on body contact using 475 W microwave power for 55 s. The joined components were subjected to mechanical and electrical tests in accordance with ICE standards to validate the applied technology. Tests of connection–disconnection of the electrical contacts were carried out in accordance with the maximum number of disconnections allowed by the manufacturer (2 cycles/min): 25 s rest time and 5 s operating time under load. The components of the electrical contact after 111237 switches were analyzed under a microscope revealing a reduction of the damaged area by 27% compared with the original contact.

This essay aims to carry out an analysis of the Psychiatric Counter-Reformation in mental health care processes with the user and the family. It arose as a result of different reflections on daily processes in health services in which the authors take part. The experience in health services and the literature review on the subject produced the results described here, enabling a look at reality with the intention of identifying its most contradictory and multifaceted movements. As a result of these research processes, it was possible to recognize some impacts on mental health care, such as the precariousness of SUS and the return to the asylum logic, the exacerbated responsibility of the family (familism), and the service to users contrary to integrality, in a perspective of slicing the person and his multiple needs. Background: Patients with chronic pancreatitis can suffer from a range of intense pain, as well as problems related to the functioning of the digestive organs, the evaluation of the quality of life can provide valuable information about the level of physical and emotional discomfort felt by the patients after the surgical intervention. Methods: A prospective study was carried out in the period 2014-2020 in which 113 patients with benign pancreatic pathology treated surgically admitted to the CF2 Clinical Hospital in Bucharest were included. For this study, the statistical method of simple linear regression was applied. Results: Patients' quality of life can also be influenced by the level of social support and medical care they receive. A strong support network, which can provide emotional and practical support, as well as access to appropriate and specialist medical care, can play an important role in managing symptoms and improving patients' quality of life. Conclusions: Although patients in this study experienced significant improvement in symptoms and ability to perform daily activities, it is important to pay attention to and manage persistent symptoms and postoperative complications to ensure the best possible quality of life.

Cushing disease (CD) is the main cause of endogenous Cushing syndrome (CS) and is produced by an adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)-producing pituitary adenoma. Its relevance in pediatrics is due to the retardation of both growth and developmental processes because of hypercortisolism. In childhood, the main features of CS are facial changes, rapid or exaggerated weight gain, hirsutism, virilization, and acne. Endogenous hypercortisolism should be established after exogenous CS has been ruled out based on 24-hour urinary free cortisol, midnight serum or salivary cortisol, and dexamethasone suppression test; after that, ACTH dependence should be established. The diagnosis should be confirmed by pathology. The goal of treatment is to normalize cortisol level and reverse the signs and symptoms. Treatment options include surgery, medication, radiotherapy, or combined therapy. CD represents a challenge for physicians owing to its multiple associated conditions involving growth and pubertal development; thus, it is important to achieve an early diagnosis and treatment in order to control hypercortisolism and improve the prognosis. Its rarity in pediatric patients has led physicians to have limited experience in its management. The objective of this narrative review is to summarize the current knowledge about the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of CD in the pediatric population.

IntroductionThe online misinformation might undermine the vaccination efforts. Therefore, given the fact that no study specifically analyzed online vaccine related content written in Romanian, the main objective of the study was to detect and evaluate tweets related to vaccines and written in Romanian language.Methods1,400 Romanian vaccine related tweets were manually classified in true, neutral and fake information and analyzed based on wordcloud representations, a correlation analysis between the three classes and specific tweet characteristics and the validation of several predictive machine learning algorithms. Results and discussionThe tweets annotated as misinformation showed specific word patterns and were liked and reshared more often as compared to the true and neutral ones. The validation of the machine learning algorithms yielded enhanced results in terms of Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve Score (0.744–0.843) when evaluating the Support Vector Classifier. The predictive model estimates in a well calibrated manner the probability that a specific Twitter post is true, neutral or fake. The current study offers important insights regarding vaccine related online content written in an Eastern European language. Future studies must aim at building an online platform for rapid identification of vaccine misinformation and raising awareness for the general population.

Medicine ,Science - Abstract
Gestational weight gain is an important indicator for monitoring nutritional status during pregnancy. However, there are no gestational weight gain references created for adolescents or national datasets to enable the construction of such graphs up to date. This manuscript aims to describe the creation of a Latin American dataset to construct gestational weight gain references for adolescents aged 10-19 years old. Gestational weight gain data from studies conducted in nine countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay) collected between 2003 and 2021 were harmonized. Data on height, weight, and gestational age in at least two gestational trimesters were included. Pregnant adolescents should be free of diseases that could affect weight, and newborns should weigh between 2,500-4,000 g and be free of congenital malformations. The final dataset included 6,414 individuals after data cleaning. Heterogeneity between the countries was assessed by calculating standardized site differences for GWG and z scores of height-for-age. Several imputation procedures were tested, and approximately 10% of the first-trimester weights were imputed. The prevalence of individuals with underweight (1.5%) and obesity (5.3%) was low, which may lead to problems when modeling the curves for such BMI categories. Maternal height and gestational weight gain did not show significant differences by country, according to the standardized site differences. A harmonized dataset of nine countries with imputed data in the first trimester of pregnancy was prepared to construct Latin American gestational weight gain curves for adolescents.

This study does not propose to elucidate how adiponectin secretion is regulated, but how its adiponectin concentration is an indicator of heart disease. About adiponectin, it is not known whether it is functionally an enzyme, or very likely a cytokine/chemokine/hormone, secreted by fat cells/adipocytes in the abdomen. Abdominal fat secretes 67 hormones, and all of which cause disease. For example, adiponectin generates diabetes and ischaemic heart disease via dyslipidemia. Based on clinical symptoms, electrocardiographic and echocardiographic parameters, a group of 208 patients with diastolic cardiac dysfunction with or without preserved systolic function, developed on a background of painful chronic ischaemic heart disease, stable angina on exertion, was constituted. The serum levels of adiponectin, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides were measured. Using the identified values, it was appreciated whether adiponectin correlates with the type of any of the two conditions, so that it can be recognised as a diagnostic and risk stratification marker.

The first record of well-preserved chondrocranial elements in mosasaurids is here described. These elements are preserved in situ in a Coniacian skull found in north-central Colombia, inside a calcareous concretion. Based on a 3D model generated from computed tomography scans, we identified elements of the nasal and orbitotemporal regions. Our descriptions show that in this specimen, the chondrocranium was reduced, more so than in most lacertilians (including their closest recent relatives, the varanids), but not as severely as in snakes or amphisbaenians (which have an extremely reduced chondrocranium and limbs). The new evidence suggests that the reduction in the chondrocranium in mosasaurids could be related to modification of their limbs when adapting to aquatic environments, but also that in mosasaurids, the olfactory tract was reduced, and the optic muscle insertions occurred mainly in the interorbital septum. The exceptional preservation of the chondrocranial elements in the specimen is facilitated by a gray mineralization covering them. XRD analysis and thin section observations indicated that this mineralization is composed of microcrystalline quartz and calcite. We infer that this material was produced by a partial silicification process promoted by lower pH microenvironments associated with bacterial breakdown of non-biomineralized tissues during early diagenesis.

pseudepigraphy ,Revelation ,Apocalypse ,audience ,paratexts ,John ,Religions. Mythology. Rationalism ,BL1-2790 - Abstract
This article attempts to answer the following question: why did the author of the apocryphon called 1 Apocryphal Apocalypse of John choose to efface himself and adopt John as his pseudonym? Why not Peter or Paul? This paper argues that the author of 1 Apocryphal Apocalypse of John intended to harness the audience attached to John, the seer of Revelation, by taking his name as a pseudonym. This paper sustains this claim by demonstrating that, in antiquity, each author had a specific pool of readers, often made out of friends and accolades of the author. Thus, authors’ names evoke an audience attached to them. When an author takes another person’s name to write under, he does so out of necessity, because he does not have an audience. But, when he takes another’s person name, he does so hoping to trick the audience of the impersonated into reading him. Based on this insight, this article concludes that the author of 1 Apocr. Apoc. John wanted the readers of canonical Revelation to engage with his work and that he achieved his purpose as evinced by the fact that the titles of both works share an uncanny resemblance, ranging from identical titles to similar wording. Since titles in antiquity were given to the works by their readers, the most logical explanation for canonical Revelation and 1 Apocr. Apoc. John having the same titles is that they both shared the same readers. Finally, this article argues that, in line with recent research on the use of pseudepigraphy in Jewish, Christian, and Roman contexts, the author of 1 Apocr. Apoc. John wanted to be read by CR’s readers because he wanted to expand, criticize, rework, and update CR’s eschatological discourse, exemplified by a close reading of how 1 Apocr. Apoc. John criticized, reworked, and updated CR’s presentation of the resurrection to bring it in harmony with late Christian reflection on the subject.

This article recognises the widespread application of risk assessment in ICT and aims at reducing the influence of human subjectivity and distraction by means of a methodology for the Automated and Intelligent Likelihood Assignment (AILA). The AILA Methodology, with its various components, applies when risk assessment proceeds exclusively upon information stated in a policy coming as a text document. This scenario is extremely common through small to medium sized institutions. Among the main contributions of this article lies the AILA Entity Extractor, which facilitates the risk assessor in the identification of entities, then of assets, from a given policy. Then, the AILA Classifier automates the assignment of likelihood values to given threats for assets. Moreover, the synergy of AILA with an existing tool for risk assessment demonstrates how to achieve more objective likelihood assignments. AILA is general in support of any risk assessment and, for the sake of demonstration, is applied to assess the privacy risk induced over physical persons by three real-world manufacturers from the automotive domain, namely Toyota, Mercedes and Tesla. AILA is also validated against a risk assessment methodology by ENISA, thereby confirming effectiveness and efficiency of the new methodology (which is dramatically more automated than ENISA’s). AILA combines and consolidates together several techniques in an unprecedented fashion, including Natural Language Processing by summarisation and entity recognition, dataset labelling by appeal to the ToS;DR service, and fully-supervised Machine Learning and regression analysis. Finally, to contribute to open knowledge, the general, executable components of AILA, the AILA Entity Extractor and the AILA Classifier are released open source along with the privacy-specific components, the AILA Privacy Dataset and the AILA Privacy Model.

Unconformity and distrust are the results of the socio-political attempt aimed to socially and economically evolve under the Top-Down system, finding that “there is no hell like a small town,” a Colombian expression meaning that despite the small size of a social group, its problems could be as big as those of a metropolis. Aipe is one of the Huila’s municipalities that benefited from the oil bonanza, inversely proportional to the social, economic, and environmental bonanza bounty, produced amid a context of political problems of governance and detriment of the public treasury. This article shows results on the relationship between citizen participation and state planning processes in Aipe, which is incoherent, dysfunctional, and inadequate for Aipe’s society, and breeds a citizen climate of distrust and nonconformity towards the authorities and planning instances. Nonetheless, the hope for a prosperous municipality persists because community experiences motivate them to know and empower their territory.

Heart transplantation (HTx) represents the current best surgical treatment for patients affected by end-stage heart failure. However, with the improvement of medical and interventional therapies, the population of HTx candidates is increasingly old and at high-risk for mortality and complications. Moreover, the use of “extended donor criteria” to deal with the shortage of donors could increase the risk of worse outcomes after HTx. In this setting, the strategy of donor organ preservation could significantly affect HTx results. The most widely used technique for donor organ preservation is static cold storage in ice. New techniques that are clinically being used for donor heart preservation include static controlled hypothermia and machine perfusion (MP) systems. Controlled hypothermia allows for a monitored cold storage between 4°C and 8°C. This simple technique seems to better preserve the donor heart when compared to ice, probably avoiding tissue injury due to sub-zero °C temperatures. MP platforms are divided in normothermic and hypothermic, and continuously perfuse the donor heart, reducing ischemic time, a well-known independent risk factor for mortality after HTx. Also, normothermic MP permits to evaluate marginal donor grafts, and could represent a safe and effective technique to expand the available donor pool. However, despite the increasing number of donor hearts preserved with these new approaches, whether these techniques could be considered superior to traditional CS still represents a matter of debate. The aim of this review is to summarize and critically assess the available clinical data on donor heart preservation strategies employed for HTx.

Colombia experienced a substantial increase in annual migration flow from Venezuela from 2013 to 2019, accumulating 1.7 million migrants by the end of 2019. According to migration data, 2016 was a breaking point in migration growth, with an increase of 137.57% compared with 2015 and at which time the influx of migrant workers began to be massive, rapid, and involuntary. In this regard, the research paper investigates, using a difference-in-differences model, the impacts on the labor market across different definitions of the informal workforce, testing the hypothesis that short-term labor migration increased (1) the number of employed individuals in companies with a workforce of fewer than five people, (2) the number of employed individuals not contributing to the social security system, and (3) the relative participation of the informal workforce in total employment from 2015 to 2018. The main results indicate an expansion in the labor market’s informal segment, increasing the number of non-returned native workers in the informal workforce without significant increases in the participation of informality in total employment. The results remain robust across various samples in models adjusted for departmental-, municipal-, and individual-level data. Following the economic theory, the research findings seem to follow a transmission mechanism in which migrant workers reduce labor costs and increase production in informal markets, providing better conditions to increase informal jobs for native workers. Several national and international stakeholders implementing income-generation alternatives in the border departments focusing on migrant employment services could find the research findings helpful in at least two aspects: (1) fighting cultural stereotypes upon which basis native workers tend to see migration as a threat to their current job holdings requires evidence that shows migrant workers contribute to economic growth and employment; (2) promoting better public policies to take advantage of initial conditions that favor labor integration of migrant workers such as cultural and language similarities among natives and migrants works better when there is evidence of the migration’s positive impacts.

Background: In human medicine, arrhythmogenic left ventricular cardiomyopathy was described as a primary disease of the heart characterized by fibroadipose replacement of the myocardium. Case Description: We report the case of a dog, with history of syncope and irregular cardiac rhythm. Electrocardiogram, echocardiography and a 24-hours Holter monitoring showed, respectively, presence of premature ventricular complexes with right bundle branch block morphology, increase of the left ventricle end‐diastolic diameter with preserved fractional shortening and ejection fraction, and a sinus arrhythmia as baseline rhythm with supraventricular tachycardia episodes and ventricular complexes with left bundle branch block morphology. After the death of the canine, postmortem examination showed cardiomegaly. Fibroadipose replacement of the septum and both ventricles, with left ventricle myocardial fibrosis, suggestive of a previous necrosis, was observed. Conclusion: These findings are suggestive of a left-dominant arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy which, to the best of our knowledge, has not been described in veterinary medicine.

Today, image forgery is common due to the massification of low-cost/high-resolution digital cameras, along with the accessibility of computer programs for image processing. All media is affected by this issue, which makes the public doubt the news. Though image modification is a typical process in entertainment, when images are taken as evidence in a legal process, modification cannot be considered trivial. Digital forensics has the challenge of ensuring the accuracy and integrity of digital images to overcome this issue. This investigation introduces an algorithm to detect the main types of pixel-based alterations such as copy-move forgery, resampling, and splicing in digital images. For the evaluation of the algorithm, CVLAB, CASIA V1, Columbia, and Columbia Uncompressed datasets were used. Of 7100 images evaluated, 3666 were unaltered, 791 had resampling, 2213 had splicing, and 430 had copy-move forgeries. The algorithm detected all proposed forgery pixel methods with an accuracy of 91%. The main novelties of the proposal are the reduced number of features needed for identification and its robustness for the file format and image size.

The aim of this work is to establish the Oxygen Reduction Reaction (ORR) activity of self-standing electrospun carbon fiber catalysts obtained from different metallic salt/lignin solutions. Through a single-step electrospinning technique, freestanding carbon fiber (CF) electrodes embedded with various metal nanoparticles (Co, Fe, Pt, and Pd), with 8–16 wt% loadings, were prepared using organosolv lignin as the initial material. These fibers were formed from a solution of lignin and ethanol, into which the metallic salt precursors were introduced, without additives or the use of toxic reagents. The resulting non-woven cloths were thermostabilized in air and then carbonized at 900 °C. The presence of metals led to varying degrees of porosity development during carbonization, improving the accessibility of the electrolyte to active sites. The obtained Pt and Pd metal-loaded carbon fibers showed high nanoparticle dispersion. The performance of the electrocatalyst for the oxygen reduction reaction was assessed in alkaline and acidic electrolytes and compared to establish which metals were the most suitable for producing carbon fibers with the highest electrocatalytic activity. In accordance with their superior dispersion and balanced pore size distribution, the carbon fibers loaded with 8 wt% palladium showed the best ORR activity, with onset potentials of 0.97 and 0.95 V in alkaline and acid media, respectively. In addition, this electrocatalyst exhibits good stability and selectivity for the four-electron energy pathway while using lower metal loadings compared to commercial catalysts.
