Oxidative stress resulting from reactive oxygen species (ROS) is often considered to be the leading cause of interstitial cystitis (IC), which is a chronic inflammatory disease. Antioxidants have been proven to have promising therapeutic effects on IC. In this study, we present an antioxidant intervention for IC by introducing curcumin-loaded cerium oxide nanoparticles (Cur-CONPs). Recognizing oxidative stress as the primary contributor to IC, our research builds on previous work utilizing cerium oxide nanoparticles (CONPs) for their outstanding antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. However, given the need to effectively relieve acute inflammation, we engineered Cur-CONPs to harness the short-term radical-scavenging antioxidant prowess of curcumin. Through in vitro studies, we demonstrate that the Cur-CONPs exhibit not only robust antioxidant capabilities but also superior anti-inflammatory properties over CONPs alone. Furthermore, in vivo studies validate the therapeutic effects of Cur-CONPs on IC. Mice with IC subjected to the Cur-CONP treatment exhibited improved micturition behaviors, relief from pelvic pain sensitivity, and reduced expression of inflammatory proteins (IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α, Cox2). These findings suggest that the synergistic antioxidant properties of the Cur-CONPs that combine the sustained antioxidant properties of CONPs and acute anti-inflammatory capabilities of curcumin hold promise as a novel treatment strategy for IC.

Abstract We construct the ( $$\beta $$ β -deformed) partition function hierarchies with W-representations. Based on the W-representations, we analyze the superintegrability property and derive their character expansions with respect to the Schur functions and Jack polynomials, respectively. Some well known superintegrable matrix models such as the Gaussian hermitian one-matrix model (in the external field), $$N\times N$$ N × N complex matrix model, $$\beta $$ β -deformed Gaussian hermitian and rectangular complex matrix models are contained in the constructed hierarchies.

Abstract Background Acupuncture is a widely used alternative and complementary therapy. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is an important technique to explore the underlying mechanism of acupuncture, and the task-based fMRI can reflect the instant effects or sustained effects of acupuncture in the brain. This scoping review aims to summarize the characteristics of acupuncture mechanism studies employing task-based fMRI and conclude a reference for future studies. Methods/design This review will follow the Guidance for Conducting Scoping Reviews. Eligible articles will be collected from 7 databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, CNKI, WanFang, VIP, and CBM) with the related keywords such as “Acupuncture” and “fMRI”; those articles should be published from January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2021; and the language should be restricted in English or Chinese. Each research step will involve at least two reviewers. The PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systemic Reviews and Meta-Analysis Extension for Scoping Reviews) will be used to organize the review. Data will be extracted from the illegible articles, and findings will be presented in tables and narrative form. A descriptive qualitative approach to analysis will be conducted to form the scoping review. Discussion This review aims to clarify the extent of acupuncture mechanism studies employing task-based fMRI. It is supposed to make a critical evaluation or propose quality requirements for future studies by summarizing the objectives and designs of eligible studies. Since the (β-deformed) hermitian one-matrix models can be represented as the integrated conformal field theory (CFT) expectation values, we construct the operators in terms of the generators of the Heisenberg algebra such that the constraints can be derived by inserting the constructed operators into the integrated expectation values. We also obtain the second order total derivative operators associating with the derived constraint operators and analyze their properties. We explore the intrinsic connection between the derived constraint operators and W-representations of some matrix models. For the Gaussian hermitian one-matrix model in the external field and β-deformed N×N complex matrix model, we investigate the superintegrability and derive the corresponding character expansions from their W-representations. Moreover a conjectured formula for the averages of Jack polynomials in the literature is proved.

Abstract Background Leadless pacemaker was a promising innovation than traditional transvenous pacemaker, the procedural complications were prone to be bleeding-related. However, very few reports also concerned about the thrombus formation during the procedure. Case presentation A hemodialysis patient with diabetic gangrene of right foot suffered from catheter-related thrombosis during leadless pacing, resulting in failure of recapture the pacemaker. A low activated clotting time (ACT) level of 104 s confirmed the insufficiency of anticoagulation. Finally, the whole delivery catheter had to be removed from the delivery sheath, another new pacemaker system was applied and successfully implanted after adjusting the ACT level to 248 s. Conclusion Catheter-related thrombosis could be a large obstacle for leadless pacemaker implantation. In addition to routine anticoagulation, ACT monitoring might be necessary during the procedure.

Abstract Background Mycobacterium chimaera infections subsequent to cardiac surgery are related to contaminated heater-cooler devices, with high mortality. Nevertheless, few studies have been reported in Asia. Case presentation We described the case of a 55-year-old man with Mycobacterium chimaera infection following cardiac surgery in the mainland of China. He was diagnosed with endocarditis caused by Mycobacterium chimaera subsequent to open heart surgery. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) and 16S rRNA gene PCR analysis were used to identify potential pathogens. The patient underwent redo valve replacement surgery and received combination therapy with azithromycin, ethambutol, linezolid, and amikacin. No signs of relapse were observed during the 11-month follow-up visit. Conclusions This is the first documented case of Mycobacterium chimaera infection following cardiac surgery in the mainland of China and the first documented transnational imported case worldwide. Moreover, mNGS is a novel diagnostic technology that can guide antimicrobial therapy prior to obtaining fluid/tissue culture results for Mycobacterium chimaera, providing a new approach for the detection of potential Mycobacterium chimaera infection.

Objectives: This study aims to characterize the population pharmacokinetics of polymyxin B in lung transplant recipients and optimize its dosage regimens.Patients and methods: This prospective study involved carbapenem-resistant organisms-infected patients treated with polymyxin B. The population pharmacokinetic model was developed using the NONMEM program. The clinical outcomes including clinical treatment efficacy, microbiological efficacy, nephrotoxicity, and hyperpigmentation were assessed. Monte Carlo simulation was performed to calculate the probability of target attainment in patients with normal or decreased renal function.Results: A total of 34 hospitalized adult patients were included. 29 (85.29%) patients were considered of clinical cure or improvement; 14 (41.18%) patients had successful bacteria elimination at the end of the treatment. Meanwhile, 5 (14.71%) patients developed polymyxin B-induced nephrotoxicity; 19 (55.88%) patients developed skin hyperpigmentation. A total of 164 concentrations with a range of 0.56–11.66 mg/L were obtained for pharmacokinetic modeling. The pharmacokinetic characteristic of polymyxin B was well described by a 1-compartment model with linear elimination, and only creatinine clearance was identified as a covariate on the clearance of polymyxin B. Monte Carlo simulations indicated an adjusted dosage regimen might be needed in patients with renal insufficiency and the currently recommended dose regimens by the label sheet of polymyxin B may likely generate a subtherapeutic exposure for MIC = 2 mg/L.Conclusion: Renal function has a significant effect on the clearance of polymyxin B in lung transplant recipients, and an adjustment of dosage was needed in patients with renal impairments.

Medicinal plant diversity (MPD) is an important component of plant diversity. Over-collection based on medicinal and economic value has the potential to damage the stability of the regional ecosystem. It is important to understand the current distribution of MPD and the factors influencing it. However, it is still unclear whether environmental and socioeconomic conditions have an impact on their distribution. We selected the Inner Mongolia as a representative study area which covers a wide area, accounting for 12.29% of China’s national land area and 0.79% of the world’s land area. At the same time, the region is a long-standing traditional medicinal area for Mongolians in China. Therefore, the region is significantly influenced by changes in environmental factors and socio-economic factors. We used 9-years field survey of the distribution of medicinal plants in Inner Mongolia for assessing the distribution of MPD as influenced by environmental and socioeconomic activities by combining spatial analyses, species distribution models, and generalized additive models. The results from the spatial analysis show that the western region of Inner Mongolia is the main cold spot area of the MPD, and the central-eastern and northeastern regions of Inner Mongolia are the main hot spot areas of the MPD. At the same time, the distribution of cold spots and hot spots of MPD is more obvious at large spatial scales, and with the refinement of spatial scales, the cold spots in scattered areas are gradually revealed, which is indicative for the conservation and development of MPD at different spatial scales. Under the future climate change of shared socioeconomic pathways (SSP), areas with high habitat suitability for medicinal plants remain mainly dominated by the Yellow River, Yin Mountains, and Greater Khingan Range. Notably, the SSP245 development pathway remains the most significant concern in either long- or short-term development. The nonlinear relationship between the driving factors of MPD at different spatial scales shows that temperature, precipitation and socioeconomic development do have complex effects on MPD. The presence of a certain temperature, altitude, and precipitation range has an optimal facilitation effect on MPD, rather than a single facilitation effect. This complex nonlinear correlation provides a reference for further studies on plant diversity and sustainable development and management. In this study, the spatial distribution of medicinal plant resources and the extent to which they are driven by ecological and socioeconomic factors were analyzed through a macroscopic approach. This provides a reference for larger-scale studies on the environmental and socioeconomic influences on the distribution of plant resources.

Abstract Background Cervical cancer is the second most common female malignant tumor in the world. According to a study in 2018, the incidence of cervical cancer in Yunnan Province of China was 11.42 per 100,000, the mortality rate was 3.77 per 100,000, and higher than the national average. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) can be used not only in the selection and effect evaluation of clinical treatment plans of cervical cancer, but also in the evaluation of prognosis and long-term survival status. In this study, 288 cervical cancer patients admitted to the Yunnan Cancer Hospital in Southwest China from 2018 to 2020 were used as the survey objects to understand the HRQoL of cervical cancer patients and explore the related factors that affect HRQoL. Methods The Chinese version of the functional assessment of cancer therapy-cervix (functional assessment of cancer therapy-cervix v4.0, FACT-Cx V4) was used to investigate 288 patients with cervical cancer in Yunnan Province. Statistical analysis was performed using t-test, analysis of variance, multiple linear regression and other methods. Results The total FACT-Cx score of cervical cancer patients was (130.16 ± 14.20), the physical well-being (PWB) score was (22.02 ± 4.47), the social/family well-being (SWB) score was (25.66 ± 3.59), the emotional well-being (EWB) score was (19.75 ± 3.54), the functional well-being (FWB) score was (16.91 ± 5.01) and the additional focus area (cervical cancer subscale, CxS) score was (45.78 ± 4.61). From the multi-factor analysis results, the scores of PWB, FWB, Cxs and the total FACT-Cx were related to the choice of different treatment methods, the PWB scores of patients with concurrent chemoradiotherapy was low(β = − 1.67, P = 0.003), the FWB scores of patients with concurrent chemoradiotherapy was low(β = − 2.02, P = 0.001), the CxS scores of patients with concurrent chemoradiotherapy was low(β = − 1.61, P = 0.006), the total score of FACT-Cx of patients with concurrent chemoradiotherapy was low(β = − 5.91, P = 0.001). SWB score was affected by marital status, married patients had high PWB scores(β = 5.44, P = 0.006). The patients with heavy disease expenditures as aproportion of family disposable income(β = − 3.82, P = 0.002) and aged 60 and above(β = − 3.29, P = 0.003) had lower FWB scores. The total score FACT-Cx of patients participating in cervical cancer screening was higher(β = 7.61, P = 0.001). Conclusion The choice of treatment method is the common influencing factor of PWB, FWB, Cxs and the total FACT-Cx. Disease expenditures as a proportion of family disposable income, the treatment method, the marital status and whether to participate in cervical cancer screening affect the patient’s evaluation of their own HRQoL. Medical staff should pay special attention to the choice of different treatment methods, popularize vaccination knowledge and cervical cancer screening, give more humanistic care and health education to cervical cancer patients who have low education level, poor economic conditions, divorced or separated, and encourage patients to participate in active treatment to improve the health-related quality of life.

Background: Presently, colistin is commercially available in two different forms, namely, colistin sulfate and its sulphomethylated derivative, colistimethate sodium (CMS). However, in the currently reported studies, most of the clinical studies on colistin for parenteral use are referred to as CMS. Data on the pharmacokinetics (PK), clinical efficacy, and side effects of colistin sulfate in clinical use have not been reported.Methods: This retrospective study was performed on carbapenem-resistant organism (CRO)-infected patients treated with colistin sulfate for more than 72 h. The population pharmacokinetic model was developed using the NONMEM program. The clinical outcomes including clinical treatment efficacy, microbiological eradication, and nephrotoxicity were assessed. Monte Carlo simulation was utilized to calculate the probability of target attainment (PTA) in patients with normal or decreased renal function.Results: A total of 42 patients were enrolled, of which 25 (59.52%) patients were considered clinical treatment success and 29 (69.06%) patients had successful bacteria elimination at the end of treatment. Remarkably, no patient developed colistin sulfate-related nephrotoxicity. A total of 112 colistin concentrations with a range of 0.28–6.20 mg/L were included for PK modeling. The PK characteristic of colistin was well illustrated by a one-compartment model with linear elimination, and creatinine clearance (CrCL) was identified as a covariate on the clearance of colistin sulfate that significantly explained inter-individual variability. Monte Carlo simulations showed that the recommended dose regimen of colistin sulfate, according to the label sheet, of a daily dose of 1–1.5 million IU/day, given in 2–3 doses, could attain PTA > 90% for MICs ≤ 0.5 μg/mL, and that a daily dose of 1 million IU/day could pose a risk of subtherapeutic exposure for MIC ≥1 μg/ml in renal healthy patients.Conclusion: Renal function significantly affects the clearance of colistin sulfate. A dose of 750,000 U every 12 h was recommended for pathogens with MIC ≤1 μg/ml. The dosage recommended by the label inserts had a risk of subtherapeutic exposure for pathogens with MIC ≥2 μg/ml. Despite higher exposure to colistin in patients with acute renal insufficiency, dose reduction was not recommended.

Background: Linezolid is associated with myelosuppression, which may cause failure in optimally treating bacterial infections. The study aimed to define the pharmacokinetic/toxicodynamic (PK/TD) threshold for critically ill patients and to identify a dosing strategy for critically ill patients with renal insufficiency.Methods: The population pharmacokinetic (PK) model was developed using the NONMEM program. Logistic regression modeling was conducted to determine the toxicodynamic (TD) threshold of linezolid-induced myelosuppression. The dosing regimen was optimized based on the Monte Carlo simulation of the final model.Results: PK analysis included 127 linezolid concentrations from 83 critically ill patients at a range of 0.25–21.61 mg/L. Creatinine clearance (CrCL) was identified as the only covariate of linezolid clearance that significantly explained interindividual variability. Thirty-four (40.97%) of the 83 patients developed linezolid-associated myelosuppression. Logistic regression analysis showed that the trough concentration (Cmin) was a significant predictor of myelosuppression in critically patients, and the threshold for Cmin in predicting myelosuppression with 50% probability was 7.8 mg/L. The Kaplan–Meier plot revealed that the overall median time from the initiation of therapy to the development of myelosuppression was 12 days. Monte Carlo simulation indicated an empirical dose reduction to 600 mg every 24 h was optimal to balance the safety and efficacy in critically ill patients with CrCL of 30–60 ml/min, 450 mg every 24 h was the alternative for patients with CrCL

Evidence supports linezolid therapeutic drug monitoring as the exposure–response relationship has been identified for toxicity among patients receiving linezolid, but the data to establish the upper limit are limited and the published toxicity thresholds range widely. The purpose of this study was to determine the linezolid exposure–toxicity thresholds to improve the safety of linezolid. This is a multicenter retrospective study of adult patients treated with linezolid from 2018 to 2019. The population pharmacokinetic model of linezolid was established based on 270 plasma concentrations in 152 patients, which showed creatinine clearance and white cell count are covariates affecting the clearance of linezolid, and serum albumin is the covariate affecting the volume of distribution. Classification and regression tree analysis was used to determine the linezolid exposure thresholds associated with an increased probability of toxicity. Among 141 patients included for toxicity analysis, the rate of occurring toxicity was significantly higher among patients with an AUC0-24, d1 ≥163 mg h/L, AUC0-24, d2 ≥207 mg h/L, AUC0-24, ss ≥210 mg h/L, and Cmin,d2 ≥6.9 mg/L, Cmin,ss ≥6.9 mg/L, while no threshold was discovered for Cmin, d1. Those exposure thresholds and duration of linezolid treatment were independently associated with linezolid-related toxicity in the logistic regression analyses. In addition, the predictive performance of the AUC0-24 and Cmin thresholds at day 2 and steady state were close. Considering that the AUC estimation is cumbersome, Cmin threshold at 48 h and steady state with a value of ≥6.9 mg/L is recommended to improve safety, especially for patients with renal insufficiency and patients with low serum albumin.

We construct the multi-variable realizations of the W1+∞ algebra such that they lead to the W1+∞ n-algebra. Based on our realizations of the W1+∞ algebra, we derive the W1+∞ constraints for the hermitian one-matrix model. Objectives Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is common disease in otorhinolaryngology and will lead to lower airway abnormality. However, the only lung function in CRS patients and associated factors have not been much studied. Methods One hundred patients with CRS with nasal polyps (CRSwNP group), 40 patients with CRS without nasal polyps (CRSsNP group), and 100 patients without CRS were enrolled. The difference in lung function was compared. Meanwhile, CRSwNP and CRSsNP group were required to undergo a bronchial provocation or dilation test. Additionally, subjective and objective outcomes were measured by the visual analogue scale (VAS), 20-item Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT-20), Lund-Mackay score, Lund-Kennedy endoscopic score. The correlation and regression methods were used to analyze the relationship between their lung function and the above parameters. Studies were conducted to determine the role of 3-methylthioproprionic acid (MTPA) in the pathogenicity of potato stem canker, Rhizoctonia solani, and the concentrations required to inhibit growth of R. solani under laboratory and plant house-based conditions. The experiments were laid out in a completely randomized design with five treatments and five replications. The treatments were 0, 1, 2, 4, and 8 mM concentrations of MTPA. The purified toxin exhibited maximal activity at pH 2.5 and 30°C. MTPA at 1, 2, 4, and 8 mM levels reduced plant height, chlorophyll content, haulm fresh weight, number of stolons, canopy development, and tuber weight of potato plants, as compared to the control. MTPA significantly affected mycelial growth with 8 mM causing the highest infection. The potato seedlings treated with MTPA concentrations of 1.0–8.0 mM induced necrosis of up to 80% of root system area. Cankers were resulted from the injection of potato seedling stems with 8.0 mM MTPA. The results showed the disappearance of cell membrane, rough mitochondrial and cell walls, change of the shape of chloroplasts, and swollen endoplasmic reticulum. Seventy-six (76) hours after toxin treatment, cell contents were completely broken, cytoplasm dissolved, and more chromatin were seen in the nucleus. The results suggested that high levels of the toxin concentration caused cell membrane and cytoplasm fracture. The integrity of cellular structure was destroyed by the phytotoxin. The concentrations of the phytotoxin were significantly correlated with pathogenicity and caused damage to the cell membrane of potato stem base tissue.

Background: Several studies were published to assess the association between serum uric acid levels and atrial fibrillation risk, but no consistent results were reported. We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the evidence of the association between hyperuricemia and atrial fibrillation risk. Material/Methods: Pubmed and Embase databases were searched for prospective cohort studies assessing the association between hyperuricemia and atrial fibrillation risk. Relative risks (RRs) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95%CIs) were pooled using random-effect of meta-analysis to assess the risk of atrial fibrillation in individuals with hyperuricemia. Results: Six cohort studies were finally included into the meta-analysis. Meta-analysis of those 6 studies showed that hyperuricemia was significantly associated with increased risk of atrial fibrillation (RR = 1.49, 95%CI 1.24-1.79, P Conclusions: Based on the currently available data, hyperuricemia is associated with increased risk of atrial fibrillation.

The process of research on the compressive strength, the porosity and mechanism of solidifying concrete debris relationship with the dosage of the cement, lime and gypsum is explained based on the filling and cementating theory. According to the research, the dosage of cement curing agent used for cementing and filling the pores among the grains of concrete debris is consistent with that of compressive strength and porosity from different methods of curing concrete debris. However, the dosage of lime and gypsum curing agent are not the case. That is to say, the dosage of cement used for filling and cementing pores in experiment is equal to that from the theory. But the dosage of lime or gypsum from the experiment is less than that of fully filling the pores among concrete debris from theoretical calculation. It is demonstrated that the process of cement solidifying concrete debris complies with the theoretical model of stabilized soil, while the cement-lime or cement-gypsum composite solidifying agent does not. A hypothesis is made that the mechanism of cement solidifing debris is achieved through filling and cementing. Based on microstructure analysis, a conclusion would be made that the mechanism of the curing agent made by cement - lime or cement - gypsum composite is that their interactions produced a large amount of acicular ettringite and gelling materials, and the interaction of these sediment particles is able to improve the microstructure of solidified objects. For this reason, macroscopic compr essive strength of curing concrete debris was improved.

The optical properties of the edge-to-edge gold triangular nanoplate dimers have been studied in theory by discrete dipole approximation method. Two clearly separated plasmon modes (low-energy and high-energy modes) are observed. Each of the double plasmon modes could be selectively turned on or off by modulating the misalign value of the dimer. When the misalign is <60 nm, the low-energy mode plays the dominant role in the spectra. In this case, the electric field intensities at the tips along the polarization direction fade down, whereas the intense electric field in the gap gets more concentrative, as the misalign increases. However, as the misalign is increased to 100 nm, the high-energy mode dominates the spectrum. And the intense electric fields concentrated around the outer tips become stronger as the misalign increases. The "switch" process is also accompanied by the inversion of the field vectors in the gap. In addition, the wavelength separation and positions of the double plasmon modes could be tuned flexibly by adjusting the gap value and the thickness of the dimer, respectively. These findings are promising for the nanophotonic switch, nanomotor, molecular ruler, surface enhanced fluorescence, surface enhanced Raman scattering, dual channel biosensor, and molecular imaging applications. We construct two realizations of the w1+1 algebra in the classical Calogero model based on the W1+∡ constraints for the Hermitian one-matrix model. We also discuss the quantum Calogero model and construct the new operators which yield the closed W1+∡ n-algebra. The super W1+∡ n-algebra is derived for the supersymmetric quan-tum Calogero model. Objective: To investigate the relationship between the expression levels of sKL and BSP and the calcification and prognosis of abdominal aorta in patients with HD. Methods: 130 patients with HD admitted to our hospital between January 2015 and June 2017 were selected as the research subjects; all patients were treated with Fresenius hemodialysis machine for intervention treatment; the expression levels of sKL and BSP in the patients' blood were monitored, and 30 mmonths were followed up The extent of calcification of the abdominal aorta and the quality of the prognosis of the patients were evaluated and the relationship between the expression levels of sKL and BSP and the calcification and prognosis of the abdominal aorta were analyzed. Results: The levels of sKL and BSP in the blood of patients with different degrees of abdominal aortic calcification were significantly different, and the differences were statistically significant (P <0.05). Among the patients with mild or no calcification, the levels of sKL and BSP were the highest in the blood and those in the death group were the lowest. The sKL level was significantly lower than the survival group, and the BSP level was significantly higher than the survival group, and the differences were statistically significant (P <0.05); the survival rate of patients with high sKL expression was significantly better than that of patients with low sKL expression, and the survival rate of low BSP expression was significantly better High expression in BSP; high sKL and low BSP are independent protective factors affecting abdominal aortic calcification and prognostic quality in HD patients (P <0.05); combined use of sKL and BSP in predicting the prognostic quality of HD patients is sensitive and specific Both are greater than 90%, and AUC> 0.90. Conclusions: High sKL and low BSP in the blood of HD patients are independent protective factors affecting abdominal aortic calcification and prognostic quality. The local electric field enhancements of overlapping Ag triangular nanoplates are investigated using the discrete dipole approximate (DDA) method. The enhancement region of local electric field in the gap could be focused and enlarged by adjusting the thickness and the number of layers of the nanoplates. For the double-layer Ag triangular nanoplates, with the thickness increasing, the electric field enhancements transform from near the corners to the center of the gap gradually and the intensities get stronger. The largest "hot spot volume" appears as the thickness increases to 20 nm. The plasmonic coupling between the two nanoplates leads to the surface charges accumulating on the surfaces adjoining the gap. The variation of the surface charges due to the increase of the thickness should be responsible for this phenomenon. For the multilayer Ag triangular nanoplates, the enhancement region enlarges as the number of layers increases. And the "hot spot volume" could reach about 72% of the total volume of the middle gap when the number of layers is 6. The large volume of the intense electric field enhancements obtained in overlapping Ag triangular nanoplates provide potential for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and surface enhancement fluorescence (SEF) applications.
