This paper proposes an integration of renewable energy sources based on a modular multi-input bidirectional DC/DC buck-boost converter. The proposed four-port converter is realized with a reduced component count and simplified control strategy, which makes the converter more reliable and cost-effective. Also, this converter exhibits bidirectional power flow functionality, making it suitable for charging the battery during regenerative braking of an electric vehicle or hybrid electric vehicle. Photovoltaic (PV) panel, battery, and ultra-capacitor are the three different energy sources for the suggested topology. Dynamic modeling is derived, and the steady-state performance of the converter is well analyzed in the MATLAB/Simulink platform. Experimental results obtained from a 100 W prototype model validate the performance of the proposed four-port bidirectional buck/boost (FPB3C) DC/DC converter.

The demand for renewable energy-based Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure is increasing in recent years. Solar PV based EV charging method is preferred as it has simple energy harvesting technique. The PV system is an uncertain power source, where the power generation is varied with respect to the availability of sunlight. So, that the charging station requires a backup power supply for the uninterrupted charging. For the integrated power sources, the charging station requires a simple and efficient conversion unit for the DC/AC/DC conversion. In this work, a modified Z-source inverter (MZSI) is developed for the multiport EV charger using PV and grid. The proposed MZSI is connected between the input and output sides to boost the voltage as per the demand at the battery side. In order to connect many battery units with the charger, the capacitors used in the MZSI are split as per the required number of charging ports. This developed converter topology operates the systems in four different modes like PV-Grid, PV-battery, grid-battery, and battery-grid. The performance of this proposed work has been validated in MATLAB/Simulink® and in the experimental setup. The experimental setup has been developed with two charging ports for obtaining 250W at each charger end which cumulatively produces 500W output across both chargers with an efficiency of 90.18%. The Electric Vehicle (EV) landscape has witnessed unprecedented growth in recent years. The integration of EVs into the grid has increased the demand for power while maintaining the grid's balance and efficiency. Demand Side Management (DSM) plays a pivotal role in this system, ensuring that the grid can accommodate the additional load demand without compromising stability or necessitating costly infrastructure upgrades. In this work, a DSM algorithm has been developed with appropriate objective functions and necessary constraints, including the EV load, distributed generation from Solar Photo Voltaic (PV), and Battery Energy Storage Systems. The objective functions are constructed using various optimization strategies, such as the Bat Optimization Algorithm (BOA), African Vulture Optimization (AVOA), Cuckoo Search Algorithm, Chaotic Harris Hawk Optimization (CHHO), Chaotic-based Interactive Autodidact School (CIAS) algorithm, and Slime Mould Algorithm (SMA). This algorithm-based DSM method is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink in different cases and loads, such as residential and Information Technology (IT) sector loads. The results show that the peak load has been reduced from 4.5 MW to 2.6 MW, and the minimum load has been raised from 0.5 MW to 1.2 MW, successfully reducing the gap between peak and low points. Additionally, the performance of each algorithm was compared in terms of the difference between peak and valley points, computation time, and convergence rate to achieve the best fitness value. The occurrence of faults in electrical distribution networks is a significant concern due to the potential damage to electrical equipment, system instability, and the disruption of reliable energy. Detecting faults in a timely and accurate manner is crucial, especially in complex underground distribution networks with branches, non-homogeneous cables, and various loads. The inherent complexity of such networks poses challenges in pinpointing faulty sections, necessitating specialized detection methods. This research focuses on utilizing the k-Nearest Neighbors (k-NN) algorithm for detecting faulty sections in an underground distribution network. Practical data, obtained from Tenaga Nasional Berhad Malaysia (TNB), including measurements of current swell and voltage sags for 17 network sections, was used to calculate the Euclidean Distance. Given that 70% of faults in the distribution network are attributed to Single Line to Ground Fault (SLGF), this study specifically targets this fault type. Additionally, various fault resistances were tested to observe the k-NN algorithm's performance. The results indicate that the k-NN algorithm successfully detected faulty sections, demonstrating effectiveness across different fault resistances and ranks. To reduce the burden of electric vehicle (EV) charging power requirements, photovoltaic (PV) infrastructure EV charging has grown in recent years. The Z-Source Inverter (ZSI) allows tapping the boosted DC and AC by adjusting the switching shoot-through. However, it has only one DC tapping, thus limiting multiport charging options. This can be overcome by splitting the boosting capacitors used at the load terminal, which supports multiple charging ports, enabling simultaneous charging of multiple EVs, thereby increasing capacity and improving overall system efficiency. This paper presents a novel PV-tied Adaptable Z-Source Inverter (AZSI) for multiport EV charging. The modified split capacitor Z-source impedance networks ensure power availability at the charging station by regulating PV generation and grid supply. The performance of the AZSI was evaluated with experimentations that achieved an efficiency of 93.8% with three charging ports. The increasing number of electrical components and sensors in modern vehicles makes network design more challenging. The development of automotive electronics through multiple communication protocols brings out the importance of a hybrid network that is both optimal and fault-tolerant. In order for a vehicle to communicate with electronic components like engine management systems, stability control units, braking systems, and door functions, a CAN (controller area network) is developed. In order to create a hierarchical vehicle network gateway for quality fortification and cost reduction of vehicles, the CAN and LIN (local interconnect network) are considered. This standardisation will reduce the variety of low-end multiplex solutions currently available for automotive electronics' development costs, production rates, service fees, and logistics costs. The implementation of a gateway in these electronic devices is made possible with the proposed hybrid architecture. This system effectively shows the high-speed and low-speed applications relevant to crucial ECUs in the network by using two distinct CAN and LIN gateways to send sensor data between the ECUs (electronic control units). The demand for electric vehicles (EVs) has increased dramatically in recent years, making it increasingly challenging to keep up with the demand for charging infrastructure. However, conventional power converters (DC–DC converters) have drawbacks such as a high component count, low voltage gain, low efficiency, and high cost. A new DC–DC multiport converter has been proposed to address these challenges by hybridizing a Super-lift Luo and Boost Converter (SLBC) with Photovoltaic (PV) and battery sources as dual inputs. The proposed Dual-Input Dual-Output (DIDO) converter offers significant advantages by super-lifting the input voltage while producing two step-up voltages, one by the Luo converter and another by the Boost converter. The SLBC uses simple structures without any additional electric circuits or transformers to generate high voltage gain and high power efficiency. To evaluate the performance of the proposed SLBC, the converter operation has been analyzed under steady-state and Continuous Current Mode conditions, and a comparison with other similar configurations has been conducted to demonstrate its benefits. Simulation and experimental results have shown that the proposed SLBC offers a considerable reduction in conduction losses compared to other SLBC converters in similar situations. Furthermore, the SLBC system provides 1.2 kW output at the charger side with 94.8% efficiency, making it a viable option for powering various EV components, including the charger, motor, lighting, and audio system, with variable voltages. To reduce the pollution to a large extent in the transportation sector, it is important to charge the Electrical Vehicles (EV) from sustainable sources of electricity, such as solar or wind energy. Building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems have gained popularity over the past 10 years and have been demonstrated to be a practical method of generating renewable energy that can be used to partially power buildings. One of the emerging technologies in EV charging systems is wireless charging technology; we realize that using this technology, fully automatic charging is simple. Compared to a plug-in charging system, wireless charging is free from rust, rain, and other environmental impacts like vandalization and visual pollution. By integrating wireless EV charging with BIPV shading systems, it offers a green and cutting-edge charging option. Building integrated solar panels are affected by different scenarios and causes due to their positioning. The direction of the solar panel, tilted position, and reflected irradiation, these all factors are to be considered in design of BIPV system. In this article, a system designed in way to analyze the effect of white and black color reflectors effect on solar panels (shading system) in different directions. In this work, a 256-W wireless charging system developed for E-bikes utilizing BIPV system. The proposed BIPV-fed resonant inductive charging system achieved efficiency of 95% for simulation and 91.6 for experimental analysis. This paper covers the self‐sharing analysis of dc‐dc nonisolated converters with input parallel–output parallel (IPOP) configuration and operating in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). The main contribution of the proposed system is its capability of providing self‐sharing of the currents on both sides of each individual converter, without average current sharing control, even in the face of parametric variations. This self‐balance only occurs for DCM. When the addressed converters operate in continuous conduction mode (CCM), the self‐sharing does not occur naturally under parametric differences among them, requiring the use of additional control loops. The use of self‐sharing converters in nonisolated converters simplifies the control system, it makes the modular solution being attractive for many applications, and it increases the power range that the DCM converters may be applied. This paper brings the theoretical study of self‐sharing of the current mechanism to six basic nonisolated converters operating in DCM. The self‐sharing is verified by experimental results, which are obtained from three modules of dc‐dc SEPIC converters. Nonisolated dc–dc converterswith multi-inputfeatures are very popular in the area of hybrid energy integration since they are compact and cost efficient compared to the isolated topologies. A dual-input hybrid step-up dc–dc converter (DIHDC) with a compact structure is introduced in this article. DIHDC operates based on the switched inductor technique. DIHDC has two inductors with equal values that are parallelly energized in the initial working modes (i.e., switch on condition) and dissipates the stored energy in series in the final working mode (switch off condition). Also, the proposed converter can be extended up to multiple inputs with slight modifications in the structure. Simple and compact structure, relatively higher efficiency, and good voltage conversion ratio are the potential merits of the new converter. Analysis of DIHDC in steady-state condition is explained elaborately and the simulation results are presented. Detailed dynamic analysis of the converter has been performed based on the small signal model of the converter and the necessary transfer functions are derived. Summary: DC–DC boost converters are extensively used in wide range of solar photovoltaic (PV) applications. A common problem in PV regulator is the presence of ripples in output voltage and output current, due to the oscillations in PV power, inaccurate switching, and inadmissible inductor peak currents. In general, conventional boost converters are widely used in PV regulator; however, conventional PWM‐controlled boost converters are upgraded to sliding mode controller (SMC)‐based PWM controllers, which has been elaborated in the literature. However, SMC‐based boost converter experiences the following problems: (i) presence of ripples in the output current and (ii) dynamic instability during sudden change in load current. This paper addresses the aforementioned problems and proposes a boomerang trajectory‐based SMC (BT‐SMC) control strategy for ripple mitigation in conventional DC–DC boost converters specifically used in PV regulator. BT‐SMC tracker tracks the reference wave shape and controls the duty cycle, with respect to the switching frequency to have a ripple mitigated output. This self‐adapting system provides an adequate reduction in ripples and rapid convergence of error nearest to zero. A detailed analysis on switching frequency transition, load variation, trajectory control, and its stability existence is conducted, and the proposed system is implemented using dSPACE‐MicroLabBox‐DS1202. Summary: Microgrids are the localized network to support electricity consumers either in an islanded manner or in integration with macrogrid. Microgrids are generally vulnerable to major issues like improper voltage regulation, circulating current, and unequal power sharing. In this paper, conventional droop controller for current sharing is upgraded with a Boomerang Trajectory based Sliding Mode Controller (BT‐SMC). In the proposed BT‐SMC technique, the error trajectories are traced and controlled toward the equilibrium point accomplishing the system to reach the stable state. Also, the dynamic changes in the load are governed and controlled by adjusting the droop resistance in the parallel converters. The BT‐SMC generates an equivalent control signal based on the control law and maintains the PWM pulses on par with the droop value and duty ratio. Additionally, this paper concerns the precondition for power sharing and power management among the different RES at different availability conditions by adopting a Source Shifting Algorithm (SSA). The hand‐in‐hand process of BT‐SMC with SSA provides a proper load sharing with a wide stability region in the phase plane. Simultaneous power distribution to multiple loads using a single source in the wireless power transfer (WPT) system is a challenging issue due to cross-coupling between the load coils, which reduces the power transfer efficiency. In a resonant WPT system, when two or more coils operated under over coupled condition, the original operating resonant frequency gets bifurcated, and thereby reduction in the power transfer efficiency. Different techniques are investigated in the literature to mitigate the frequency bifurcation phenomena in the resonant WPT system. However, the utilization of frequency bifurcation approach for the simultaneous power transfer to multiple loads is not addressed. This paper proposes a simultaneous power transfer approach using frequency bifurcation for the multiple load system designed with different operating frequency. Mathematical, simulation, and experimental studies performed for dual, triple, and four coil WPT systems with multiple loads. In addition, an automatic power flow control method is implemented to estimate the load current from the source, which helps to select a new set of load coils to be charged. The experimental results confirm the proposed power transfer, helps to attain higher power transfer efficiency of 39.34%, 49.31%, 68.22% and cross interference of −31.2 dBV, −36.2 dBV, −41.2 dBV for dual, triple, and four coil WPT system, respectively. Multilevel Inverters (MLIs) are widely used in medium voltage applications due to their various advantages. In addition, there are numerous types of MLIs for such applications. However, the diode-less 3-level (3L) T-type Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) MLI is the most advantageous due to its low conduction losses and high potential efficiency. The power circuit of a 3L T-type NPC is derived by the conventional two level inverter by a slight modification. In order to explore the MLI performance for various Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) schemes, this paper examines the operation of a 3L (five level line to line) T-type NPC MLI for various types of Multi-Carriers Pulse Width Modulation (MCPWM) schemes. These PWM schemes are compared in terms of their voltage profile, total harmonic distortion (THD) and conduction losses. In addition, a 3L T-type NPC MLI is also compared with the conventional NPC in terms of number of switches, clamping diodes, main diodes and capacitors. Moreover, the capacitor-balancing problem is also investigated using the Neutral Point Fluctuation (NPF) method with all of the MCPWM schemes. A 1kW 3L T-type NPC MLI is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and implemented experimentally and its performance is tested with a 1HP induction motor. The enduring life span of the machine insulation will be decided based on degradation level in motor and generator stator windings. The non-destructive diagnostic tools like dielectric loss and capacitance test and partial discharge (PD) analysis, recognized to access the deterioration in the insulation system of rotating machines. The experiments reveal various characteristic parameters such as leakage current, dielectric dissipation factor, the capacitance value, and PD magnitude. The integrity of the rotating machine can be find out by analyzing these parameters. This research study shows the hybrid method for prediction of insulation condition in the stator winding by utilizing the artificial neural network (ANN) with gravitational search algorithm in comparison with ANN and ANN-genetic algorithm. The advent of expert systems ensures the quality assurance and service life assessment of the high-voltage assets. It offers a predictive maintenance solution to personnel dealt with power utilities thereby increasing the uptime, reliability, and productivity, which in turn reducing the operating costs, downtime and unplanned outages. For testing and predicting the insulation status, several 11 kV machines are considered. The predicted results using hybrid techniques extend a close agreement with reference to the data obtained from the experiments performed. Multiple microrobots are needed in biomedical applications to perform time-bound complex clinical practices. Simultaneous wireless power transfer (WPT) and propulsion generation helps the designer to miniaturize the size and capable of executing multitasking operation. However, the selective power and force transfer to multiple devices is challenging and requires multiple frequency magnetic fields at the transmitter (Tx). This paper proposes a new approach of simultaneous independent wireless power and force generation using frequency splitting phenomena present in magnetic resonance. In the proposed approach, three coils at the Tx side is operated under over coupled (OC) mode, which produces three different split frequencies. The split frequency at the Tx side is utilized for the simultaneous independent power and force transfer to three different micro-robots and the number of micro-robots can be increased by operating the Tx side coil at different OC region. In addition, the split frequency of three coil WPT circuit comprises of the original resonant frequency irrespective of variation in coupling between the coils. This feature can be applied for the design of leader–follower control approach to the multiple micro-robots environments. The AC and DC power system structures need to be modernized to meet consumer demands. DC microgrids are suitably admired due to their high efficiency, consistency, reliability, and load sharing performance, when interconnected to DC renewable and storage sources. The main control objective for any DC microgrid is providing proper load–power balancing based on the Distributed Generator (DG) sources. Due to the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources, batteries play an important role in load–power balancing in a DC microgrid. The existing energy management strategy may be able to meet the load demand. However, that technique is not suitable forrural communities’ power system structure. This research offers an energy management strategy (EMS) for a DC microgrid to supply power to rural communities with solar, wind, fuel cell, and batteries as input sources. The proposed EMS performs the load–power balancing between each source (renewable and storage) in a DC microgrid for dynamic load variation. Here, the EMS handles two battery sources (one is used to deliver power to the priority load, and the other is utilized in the common DC bus) to meet the required demand. The proposed EMS is capable of handling load–power balancing using renewable energy sources with less consumption of non- conventional energy sources (such as a diesel generator). The performance of the system is analyzed based on different operating conditions of the input sources. The MATLAB/Simulink simulation model for the proposed DC microgrid with their EMS control system is developed and investigated, and their results are tabulated under different input and load conditions. The capacitive coupled wireless power transfer (CCWPT) operating at megahertz (MHz) frequency is broadly considered as the promising solution for low power biomedical implants. The class E power amplifier is attractive in MHz range wireless power transfer (WPT) applications due to zero voltage switching (ZVS) and zero voltage derivative switching (ZVDS) properties. The existing design of class E amplifier is investigated only for inductive resonant coupled (IRC) WPT systems; the modelling and optimization of the class E amplifier for CCWPT systems are not deliberated with load variation. Meanwhile, the variations in the coupling distance and load are common in real time applications, which could reduce the power amplifier (PA) efficiency. The purpose of this paper is to model and optimize the class E amplifier for CCWPT systems used in MHz range applications. The analytical model of PA parameters and efficiency are derived to determine the optimal operating conditions. Also, an inductive-capacitive-inductive (LCL) impedance matching network is designed for the robust operation of the PA, which improves the efficiency and maintains required impedance compression. The enormous growth in the penetration of electric vehicles (EVs), has laid the path to advancements in the charging infrastructure. Connectivity between charging stations is an essential prerequisite for future EV adoption to alleviate user's "range anxiety". The existing charging stations fail to adopt power provision, allocation and scheduling management. To improve the existing charging infrastructure, data based on real-time information and availability of reserves at charging stations could be uploaded to the users to help them locate the nearest charging station for an EV. This research article focuses on an a interactive user application developed through SQL and PHP platform to allocate the charging slots based on estimated battery parameters, which uses data communication with charging stations to receive the slot availability information. The proposed server-based real-time forecast charging infrastructure avoids waiting times and its scheduling management efficiently prevents the EV from halting on the road due to battery drain out. Demand Side Management (DSM) is an effective tool for utilities through reducing the demand of peak load and controlling the utilization of the energy of the system. The implementation of DSM provides benefits for utilities and is profitable for the customers who are involved in this process. DSM based on a load shifting strategy is proposed in this paper by employing various devices to minimize the energy consumption pattern in the system. The proposed hybrid strategy is the joint implementation of the Wingsuit Flying Search Algorithm (WFSA) and Artificial Cell Swarm Optimization (ACSO). The searching behavior of WFSA is enhanced by ACSO. Hence, it is named the WFS2ACSO technique. The implementation of this load shifting technique was carried out on three different types of loads, these being residential loads, commercial loads, and industrial loads. Two case studies, over summer and winter, were validated to check the feasibility of the test system. The proposed method aimed to achieve the load demand in an effective way for the minimization of bill electrification, Peak to Average Ratio (PAR), and the consumption of power. The Time-of-Use (TOU) pricing was implemented to calculate the savings in energy bills. The proposed test system of the Micro Grid (MG) was executed on a MATLAB platform with two case studies based on the optimization methods WFSA and WFS2ACSO. Simulation results demonstrated the comparative analysis of electricity cost and peak load with different algorithms and were carried out with and without DSM consideration. The projected DSM methodology achieved considerable savings as the peak load demand of MG decreased. Furthermore, the decrease in PAR levels of 14% in the residential load, 16% in the commercial load, and 10% in the industrial load, with and without the DSM methodology, was presented. The flight length and awareness of probability tuning parameters make the proposed algorithm more effective in obtaining better results. The test results obtained prove the effectiveness of the hybridized algorithm as compared with other trend-setting optimization techniques such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Ant Lion Optimization (ALO). The usage of electric vehicles (EV) has been increasing over the last few years due to a rise in fossil fuel prices and the rate of increasing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. EV-charging stations are powered by existing utility power grid systems, increasing the stress on the utility grid and the load demand at the distribution side. DC grid-based EV charging is more efficient than AC distribution because of its higher reliability, power conversion efficiency, simple interfacing with renewable energy sources (RESs), and integration of energy storage units (ESU). RES-generated power storage in local ESU is an alternative solution for managing the utility grid demand. In addition, to maintain the EV charging demand at the microgrid levels, energy management and control strategies must carefully power the EV battery charging unit. In addition, charging stations require dedicated converter topologies, control strategies, and need to follow set levels and standards. Based on EV, ESU, and RES accessibility, different types of microgrid architecture and control strategies are used to ensure optimum operation at the EV-charging point. Based on the above said merits, this review paper presents different RES-connected architecture and control strategies used in EV-charging stations. It highlights the importance of different charging station architectures with current power converter topologies proposed in the literature. In addition, a comparison of microgrid-based charging station architecture with its energy management, control strategies, and charging converter controls are also presented. The different levels and types of charging stations used for EV charging, in addition to controls and connectors used, are also discussed. An experiment-based energy management strategy was developed to control power flow among the available sources and charging terminals for the effective utilization of generated renewable power. The main motive of the EMS and its control is to maximize the usage of RES consumption. This paper proposes a digital model predictive controller (DMPC) for a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) DC-DC converter interfaced with renewable energy resources in a hybrid system. Such MIMO systems generally suffer from cross-regulation, which seriously impacts the stability and speed of response of the system. To solve the contemporary issues in a MIMO system, a controller is required to attenuate the cross-regulation. Therefore, this paper proposes a controller, which increases speed of response and maintains stable output by regulating the load voltage independently. The inductor current and the capacitor voltage of the proposed converter are considered as the controlling parameters. With the aid of Forward Euler's procedure, the future values are computed for the instantaneous values of controlling parameters. Cost function defines the control action by the predicted values that describe the system performance and establish optimal condition at which the output of the system is required. This allows proper switching of the system, thereby helping to regulate the output voltages. Thus, for any variation in load, the DMPC ensures steady switching operation and minimization of cross-regulation. To prove the efficacy of proposed DMPC controller, simulations followed by the experimental results are executed on a hybrid system consisting of dual-input dual-output (DIDO) positive Super-Lift Luo converter (PSLLC) interfaced with photovoltaic renewable energy resource. The quasi-impedance source inverters/quasi-Z source inverters (Q-ZSIs) have shown improvement to overwhelmed shortcomings of regular voltage-source inverters (VSIs) and current-source inverters (CSIs) in terms of efficiency and buck-boost type operations. The Q-ZSIs encapsulated several significant merits against conventional ZSIs, i.e., realized buck/boost, inversion and power conditioning in a single power stage with improved reliability. The conventional inverters have two major problems; voltage harmonics and boosting capability, which make it impossible to prefer for renewable generation and general-purpose applications such as drive acceleration. This work has proposed a Q-ZSI with five-level six switches coupled inverter. The proposed Q-ZSI has the merits of operation, reduced passive components, higher voltage boosting capability and high efficiency. The modified space vector pulse width modulation (PWM) developed to achieve the desired control on the impedance network and inverter switching states. The proposed PWM integrates the boosting and regular inverter switching state within one sampling period. The PWM has merits such as reduction of coupled inductor size, total harmonic reduction with enhancing of the fundamental voltage profile. In comparison with other multilevel inverters (MLI), it utilizes only half of the power switch and a lower modulation index to attain higher voltage gain. The proposed inverter dealt with photovoltaic (PV) system for the stand-alone load. The proposed boost inverter topology, operating performance and control algorithm is theoretically investigated and validated through MATLAB/Simulink software and experimental upshots. The pulse width modulation (PWM) is an important segment in power electronic inverters and multilevel inverters (MLIs) design. The space vector modulation (SVM) methods own distinct advantages over other PWM methods. However, MLI SVM has involved more mathematics in their executions. Hence, the digital signal processors (DSPs) or field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) based digital implementations are highly preferred for MLI SVM realizations, which require exceptional properties. The conventional MLI SVMs use complex mathematical functions to solve their internal functions to identify the space vector diagram (SVD) sub-triangle and over modulation boundary switching on-times. Particularly these are the changes in the position of reference vector with respect to their sub-triangle positions involving higher mathematical functions. This paper proposes a simplified three-level MLI SVM that reduces the sub-triangle and over modulation switching on-time calculations with reduced mathematical functions. The proposed MLI SVM is derived based on two-level SVM without changing the reference vector position, unlike the traditional approaches. This helps in extending the SVM for any n-level inverter with additional LUTs. The detailed theoretical study, MATLAB-Simulink system generator simulations and Xilinx FPGA family SPARTAN-III-3A based experimental implementations are done with three-level neutral point MLI fed induction motor drive. The theoretical design, analysis, and experimentation results validate the advantages of the proposed PWM design and its implementation. In addition, the proposed implementation is executed from the MATLAB Xilinx system generator directly into target FPGA, which makes it faithful, efficient and minimizes the time spent. In this paper, a Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA) has been proposed for relieving congestion in the deregulated power electricity industry. Congestion in the power market is one the contemplative challenges to be overcome in the era of deregulation. The primary cause of congestion is due to the loss of the transmission line, an increase in load, or loss of generator(s). Hence, managing congestion is one of the issues which have to be tackled in the present scenario. There are several techniques to relieve congestion. It is quite well-known that the thermal limits of transmission lines in a power system are fixed. One of the methods to abate congestion is to reschedule the real power of the generators. The purpose of the present work is to benefit the Independent System Operator (ISO) in reliving congestion. (1) In order to meet this objective effectively, a FPA algorithm has been proposed for relieving congestion and is simulated on a modified IEEE 30-bus system initially. (2) Congestion cost, compared with and without the application of FPA, is computed. (3) To validate its effectiveness, the obtained results are compared with recent power system optimization algorithms present in the literature. (4) Further, the work has been extended with the incorporation of a Pumped Hydro Storage Unit (PHSU). Here an economic analysis of congestion cost reduction employing FPA before and after the incorporation of PHSU is investigated applying FPA. In comparison with other evolutionary algorithms, the uniqueness of generating a new population is attained in FPA by the levy flight procedure. It is one of the latest evolved algorithms and is suited for different power system problem due to fewer clear-cut tuning parameters in contrast with other algorithms. (5) Furthermore, the effects of other network parameters, including system losses and voltage, has been computed. The result obtained is tested in terms of congestion mitigation with and without the incorporation of PHSU, in terms of novel objective improvement, and with and without applying recently evolving FPA for the above application. Thus the objective-wise and algorithmic-wise innovative concept has been presented. This proves effectiveness of the algorithm in terms of minimized cost convergence and other parameter including system losses and voltage before and after the incorporation of PHSU as compared with other recent trendsetting reported optimization techniques. Multiple supply voltage is the most prevalent method for low power reduction in the design of modern Integrated circuits. Floorplanning process in this design performs positioning of functional blocks in the layout satisfying both fixed outline and voltage island constraints. The floorplans while satisfying these two significant constraints causes significant rise in wirelength and congestion. In this paper, a congestion and wirelength aware floorplanning algorithm is proposed which allows effective placement of functional blocks in the layout to satisfying fixed outline and voltage island constraints simultaneously. To perform voltage island floorplanning, the proposed algorithm uses Skewed binary tree representation scheme to operate the functional blocks in its predefined voltage level. The proposed methodology determines the feasible dimensions of the functional blocks in the representation which aids the placement process for the reduction of congestion and wirelength. With these optimal dimensions of the functional blocks, floorplanning is also performed for the layouts of aspect 1:1, 2:1, and 3:1, to evaluate the ability of proposed algorithm for satisfying the fixed outline constraint. The proposed methodology is implemented in the layout of InternationalWorkshop on Logic and Synthesis (IWLS) benchmarks circuits for experimental purpose. The resulting floorplans were iteratively optimized for optimal reduction of wirelength and congestion. Experimental results show that the proposed methodology outperforms existing state-of-the-art approaches in wirelength reduction by about 18.65% and in congestion reduction by around 63%, while delivering the 30.35% power consumption. The present study aims to utilize waste engine exhaust heat to produce hydrogen and utilize the same in the single cylinder CI engine as a closed system. A thermoelectric generator was used to convert the waste exhaust heat to hydrogen gas through PEM type fuel cell. The generator was placed in the engine exhaust and connected to the fuel cell and the output of the fuel cell was connected to the inlet manifold through a flow meter and safety devices. All the tests were conducted in a single cylinder CI engine with diesel as the base fuel and the produced hydrogen as the inducted fuel. Experiments were conducted at different load conditions with a constant speed of 1500 rpm. It is observed that the heat wasted from the exhaust increases with increase in load which improves the thermoelectric generator conversion efficiency and in turn increases the hydrogen flow rate. At maximum load, 351 ml/min of hydrogen was produced and sent to the inlet manifold of the engine. The conversion efficiency of the generator varies from 13.8% at low load to 51% at full engine load. The experimental results showed that with hydrogen induction brake thermal efficiency (BTE) was improved. At full load, BTE with hydrogen induction improves by 10% in comparison to only diesel engine operation. With hydrogen induction HC, CO and smoke emissions at full load reduced by 13.46, 31.57, and 24.7%, respectively, as compared to diesel. The decrease in emissions is attributed to decrease in diesel consumption as hydrogen replaces the diesel. However, there is a slight penalty in NOx emissions and it increases by 20% with hydrogen induction due to increase in in-cylinder temperature. • Waste engine exhaust heat was recovered in the form of electricity using TEG. • Produced electricity was used to produce hydrogen using fuel cell. • Hydrogen was inducted in the intake air along with diesel as the direct injected fuel. • Hydrogen production rate increased with load.
